PoliticsNnamdi Kanu Challenges Life Sentence by tayo2edio12(op): 11:54am On Feb 05
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yyTvs_Ghc-4[/img]

The convicted leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has approached the Court of Appeal to contest his conviction and the multiple sentences handed down by the Federal High Court in Abuja.

Kanu maintains that his prosecution was deeply flawed, arguing that the entire process was marked by grave legal missteps that resulted in a miscarriage of justice. In a notice of appeal dated February 4, 2026, the IPOB leader stated that he is challenging his conviction and sentencing on seven counts, including terrorism-related charges. He was sentenced to five life terms alongside additional prison sentences after being found guilty on November 20, 2025.

In outlining his grounds of appeal, Kanu accused the trial court of failing to address what he described as a “foundational disruption of the original trial process” following the 2017 military operation at his Afara-Ukwu residence. He also argued that the court continued with the trial and ultimately delivered judgment despite his preliminary objection challenging the competence of the proceedings remaining unresolved.

Kanu further faulted the court for proceeding to judgment while his bail application was still pending, insisting that this development compromised the fairness and integrity of the trial. He contended that the court convicted him under a law that was no longer in force, asserting that “the learned trial judge erred in law by convicting and sentencing the appellant under the Terrorism Prevention (Amendment) Act, 2013, notwithstanding its repeal by the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act, 2022, prior to judgment.”

The IPOB leader also claimed that he was subjected to double jeopardy, in violation of Section 36(9) of the 1999 Constitution, after being retried on matters he said had previously been nullified by the Court of Appeal. In addition, Kanu alleged that his right to fair hearing was breached, stating that he was not given the opportunity to file or adopt a final written address before judgment was delivered.

As part of the reliefs sought, Kanu asked the Court of Appeal to allow his appeal, set aside his conviction and sentences, and “discharge and acquit the appellant in respect of all the counts.”

He also informed the appellate court of his intention to be physically present at the appeal hearing, stating, “I want to be present at the hearing of the appeal because I may be conducting the appeal in person.”

On November 20, 2025, Justice James Omotosho of the Federal High Court in Abuja sentenced Kanu to life imprisonment. He is currently being held at a correctional facility in Sokoto State after his request to be transferred to another facility was declined.

SportsAtletico Madrid Confirm Ademola Lookman Signing From Atalanta by tayo2edio12(op): 2:34pm On Feb 03
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZtD9KAlLzQ[/img]

Atletico Madrid have officially presented Ademola Lookman as their latest acquisition, announcing on Monday that an agreement had been reached with Atalanta for the transfer of the Nigerian international winger.

Lookman gained global attention after delivering a memorable performance in the 2024 Europa League final, where he netted a remarkable hat-trick to help Atalanta secure victory over Bayer Leverkusen and lift the trophy. In the current campaign, the forward has registered three goals in 19 appearances in all competitions for the Italian club, continuing to play an important role in their attacking setup.

Although born in London, Lookman began his professional journey with Charlton Athletic before earning a move to Everton, where he took his first steps in the Premier League. His career path later took him to RB Leipzig in Germany, followed by loan spells with Fulham and Leicester City, before he sealed a permanent switch to Atalanta in 2022, a move that significantly elevated his profile in European football.

The transfer is part of Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone’s push to strengthen his squad after recent departures, including Giacomo Raspadori’s transfer to Atalanta and Conor Gallagher’s move to Tottenham Hotspur. Atletico have also faced challenges in front of goal this season, with striker Julian Alvarez enduring a difficult run, having failed to find the net in his last 11 La Liga outings, making Lookman’s arrival a timely boost to their attacking options.

CelebritiesStop Comparing Yourselves To Fela; You’re Disrespecting His Legacy - Yeni Kuti by tayo2edio12(op): 2:19pm On Feb 03
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mZtD9KAlLzQ[/img]

In a pointed rebuke that has reignited conversations about artistic legacy and respect for musical pioneers, Yeni Kuti, veteran media personality and eldest daughter of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has strongly criticized contemporary Nigerian artists who draw comparisons between themselves and her late father

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Arise TV following the Kuti family’s acceptance of Fela’s Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2026 Grammy Awards, Yeni pulled no punches in defending her father’s unparalleled legacy, nearly three decades after he died in 1997.

“Don’t compare chalk and cheese. Fela is a legend; give him his flowers. He has done his part,” Yeni stated emphatically during the broadcast interview, her frustration evident as she addressed what she sees as a troubling trend among modern artists.

The comments appear particularly directed at recent controversies involving Wizkid, one of Nigeria’s biggest contemporary music exports, who recently claimed to be “bigger” than Fela in a heated social media exchange. The statement came in response to criticism from Seun Kuti—Fela’s youngest son and a Grammy-nominated artist in his own right—regarding ongoing comparisons between Wizkid and the Afrobeat pioneer.

Yeni’s central argument rests on a simple but powerful premise: Fela’s enduring relevance speaks louder than any contemporary achievement. “If you are still talking about him 29 years after his death and you’re comparing yourself with him, you’re not a dead man walking. So, comparing yourself with him is not a good thing,” she noted, highlighting the contradiction inherent in living artists measuring themselves against someone whose influence has only grown posthumously.

The timing of Yeni’s remarks carries particular weight, coming immediately after the Kuti family’s trip to the Grammy Awards ceremony, where Fela received one of the Recording Academy’s highest honors. The Lifetime Achievement Award, reserved for performers who have made outstanding contributions to music over their careers, underscores the global recognition of Fela’s revolutionary impact on world music.

Going beyond defending just her father, Yeni called for a broader cultural shift in how contemporary artists engage with Nigeria’s musical heritage. “Compare yourself with your peers and leave our legends alone. We have legends; let’s respect them,” she urged, suggesting that healthy competition should occur within generational cohorts rather than across historical divides.

Her remarks touch on a sensitive nerve in Nigeria’s music industry, where the phenomenal global success of Afrobeats—a modern genre inspired by but distinct from Fela’s Afrobeat—has led some artists and their supporters to make bold claims about surpassing the achievements of earlier pioneers.

The controversy that prompted Yeni’s intervention has been simmering for weeks. Seun Kuti, who inherited his father’s band Egypt 80 and continues to perform his father’s politically charged brand of Afrobeat, has been vocal in his criticism of what he perceives as disrespectful comparisons between contemporary pop stars and Fela’s legacy.

When Wizkid responded by claiming superiority over Fela, the reaction from the Kuti family and sections of the Nigerian public was swift and harsh. Critics argued that such comparisons ignore the fundamentally different contexts in which the two artists operated—Fela as a revolutionary using music as political resistance during military dictatorship, Wizkid as a global pop phenomenon in the streaming era.

At the heart of this debate lies a fundamental question: how do we measure artistic greatness? Is it through commercial success, global reach, and streaming numbers, or through cultural impact, innovation, and enduring influence?

Fela Anikulapo-Kuti pioneered Afrobeat in the 1970s, blending traditional Yoruba music, jazz, highlife, and funk into a politically potent sound that challenged authority and inspired movements across Africa and beyond. His compound, the Kalakuta Republic, was both a commune and a symbol of resistance. His music remains studied in universities worldwide, and his influence extends far beyond music into political activism and Pan-African consciousness.

Contemporary artists like Wizkid have achieved unprecedented global commercial success, bringing African sounds to international charts and collaborating with Western superstars. However, as Yeni Kuti’s comments suggest, such achievements exist in a fundamentally different category from the groundbreaking, society-shaping work of pioneers like Fela.

As Nigeria’s music industry continues its remarkable global ascent, Yeni Kuti’s call for respect and perspective serves as a reminder that honoring those who paved the way need not diminish the achievements of today’s stars—and that true legends need no defense, only recognition.

The debate, it seems, is far from over.

SportsCunha Stunner Hands United Famous Win As Arsenal’s Title Bid Falters by tayo2edio12(op): 9:50am On Jan 27
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AyhQR2lDCWo[/img]

Manchester United delivered a major setback to Arsenal’s Premier League title push as Matheus Cunha’s outstanding strike sealed a dramatic 3-2 victory over the league leaders on Sunday.

An unfortunate own goal by Lisandro Martinez handed Arsenal an early advantage at the Emirates Stadium, but United responded before the break through Bryan Mbeumo. Patrick Dorgu then turned the game on its head after half-time with a powerful finish, only for Mikel Merino’s late equaliser to appear to have salvaged a point for the hosts.

The contest, however, swung decisively three minutes from time when Cunha unleashed a sensational drive to claim all three points for United.

The defeat ended Arsenal’s 13-game unbeaten run across all competitions, their first loss since falling to Aston Villa in December. It also marked their first home defeat in 18 matches in all competitions since losing to Bournemouth in May.

As a result, Arsenal’s lead at the top has been trimmed to just four points, with second-placed Manchester City and third-placed Aston Villa closing in after weekend victories over Wolves and Newcastle. City manager Pep Guardiola recently described Arsenal as the “best team in the world”, but a three-game winless run in the league has reignited the title race.

While Arsenal remain in control of their destiny, recent goalless draws against Liverpool and Nottingham Forest had already unsettled supporters, and this latest defeat will further test Mikel Arteta’s side. Arteta has not won silverware since lifting the 2020 FA Cup, and with Arsenal still waiting 22 years for another league title, memories of previous late-season collapses are resurfacing.

For United, the victory was historic, ending a run without a win at the Emirates Stadium stretching back to December 2017. It also extended Michael Carrick’s impressive start as interim manager. The former Middlesbrough boss, appointed following the dismissal of Ruben Amorim, had already stunned Manchester City 2-0 last weekend. Successive wins over the league’s top two have lifted United into fourth place after a turbulent period earlier in the campaign.

Arsenal began brightly and were rewarded in the 29th minute following a chaotic sequence. Dorgu failed to deal with Piero Hincapie’s cross, Bukayo Saka reacted quickly to deliver a ball towards Martin Odegaard, and although the Arsenal captain failed to connect cleanly, Martinez misjudged his clearance under pressure from Jurrien Timber, diverting the ball into his own net.

Despite Arsenal’s dominance, United capitalised on a costly error eight minutes later. Martin Zubimendi’s weak back pass was intercepted by Mbeumo, who rounded David Raya and calmly slotted home, marking his ninth goal in all competitions since arriving from Brentford and underlining his steady adaptation to life at Old Trafford.

United carried that momentum into the second half, and five minutes after the restart, Bruno Fernandes released Dorgu, who took a touch before firing a stunning 20-yard effort into the top corner. Arsenal appeals for handball were dismissed after VAR review, and the goal stood, silencing the home crowd. Dorgu’s second goal in as many games justified Carrick’s decision to deploy the 21-year-old in a more advanced role.

Arsenal refused to fold and eventually found a way back in the 84th minute through a familiar route. From another dangerous corner delivered by Saka, goalkeeper Lammens failed to claim the ball, allowing Merino to force it home from close range.

But any hope of a comeback was extinguished moments later. A slick exchange between Fernandes and Kobbie Mainoo opened space for Cunha, and the Brazilian produced a breathtaking strike from 25 yards that flew beyond Raya to seal a memorable win.

SportsAlgerian Duo Handed Bans After Post-match Chaos In AFCON Quarter-final Loss by tayo2edio12(op): 1:55pm On Jan 22
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o7Wr3iiD8Gc[/img]

Algerian internationals Luca Zidane and Rafik Belghali have been suspended for their roles in the heated scenes that followed Algeria’s quarter-final loss to Nigeria at the Africa Cup of Nations, with Zidane banned for two matches and Belghali for four.

The sanctions were confirmed on Wednesday by the Algerian Football Federation, which also revealed that it had been fined $100,000 for security failures and misconduct involving players, officials and supporters during the match.

https://verilynews.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/01/AFP__20260117__933G67X__v1__MidRes__FblAfr2025Match51EgyNig-1280x720-1.jpg

Zidane, a goalkeeper, and defender Belghali will serve their respective bans during Algeria’s qualifying campaign for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The federation, however, announced its intention to appeal the decisions, insisting the penalties were excessive. Algeria had felt hard done by after being denied a penalty when the match was still goalless, before Nigeria went on to secure a 2-0 victory through second-half strikes from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.

Tempers flared immediately after the final whistle, leading to confrontations between players and members of the coaching staff from both sides. According to the Algerian FA, the fines imposed by the Confederation of African Football also covered incidents involving supporters, including attempts to encroach onto the pitch and the provocative display of banknotes towards match officials.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles sealed their place in the semi-finals with a dominant performance at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, dismantling an Algerian side that had been defensively solid throughout the tournament. The Desert Foxes, who had conceded only once before the quarter-final, were overwhelmed by Nigeria’s intensity and sharp finishing after the break.

A moment of brilliance from Alex Iwobi unlocked the Algerian backline with an audacious outside-of-the-boot pass, allowing Osimhen to square the ball unselfishly for Adams, who rounded Zidane and calmly finished into an empty net. Algeria failed to find rhythm or attacking threat, ending the contest without a single shot on target, despite tactical changes and the introduction of Baghdad Bounedjah in the second half.

Although Nigeria later fell to hosts Morocco in the semi-final, the Super Eagles bounced back by defeating Egypt in the third-place playoff. That victory secured Nigeria’s ninth third-place finish in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.

CrimeDSS Arrests Former AGF Abubakar Malami Over Alleged Terrorism Financing by tayo2edio12(op): 1:22pm On Jan 20
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YseJF3icUZk[/img]

Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) on Monday arrested a former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, SAN, in Abuja.

Malami was reportedly taken into custody in front of the Kuje Correctional Centre shortly after he paid a visit to the facility.

A video circulating on social media captured the former AGF walking toward a vehicle believed to belong to the DSS moments after leaving the prison premises. In the footage, Malami was seen asking the operatives to identify themselves by showing their official identity cards before entering the vehicle.

A security source, who confirmed the development, said the arrest followed multiple petitions filed against Malami, allegedly linked to terrorism financing.

“Yes, it is true that DSS operatives arrested Abubakar Malami, SAN. There are several petitions against him bordering on alleged terrorism financing,” the source said.

He added that allegations of terrorism and its financing are treated as serious offences globally, noting Malami’s previous stance while in office.

“Terrorism and terrorism financing are serious offences globally. You will recall that when Abubakar Malami, SAN, served as Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, he publicly vowed that the government would not shield any individual linked to terrorism or its financing.”

According to the source, governments have a responsibility to investigate such claims irrespective of the status of those involved.

“No responsible government will fold its arms or turn a blind eye to serious allegations of terrorism financing against any individual, no matter how highly placed. In this case, Malami, SAN,” he said.

The source also explained that collaboration among security agencies is a routine aspect of investigations involving national security.

“In the course of investigations, we have what is called inter-agency cooperation. It is not uncommon for one security agency to hand over a suspect to another sister agency. In Nigeria, the DSS is statutorily responsible for investigating terrorism-related matters. It is best to allow them to do their job,” he declared.

SportsDavido Loses $50,000 Bet As Nigeria Crashes Out On Penalties by tayo2edio12(op): 12:08pm On Jan 15
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRnHqABjrw8[/img]

In a dramatic turn of events that left Nigerian fans devastated, Afrobeats superstar Davido has lost a substantial $50,000 wager after the Super Eagles fell to Morocco 4-2 on penalties in their African Cup of Nations semifinal clash on Wednesday night.

The “Fall” hitmaker had publicly displayed his confidence in the national team just hours before kickoff, posting his betting slip across social media platforms to show his substantial stake on a Nigerian victory. The bold gesture was seen by many as a show of patriotic support for the three-time African champions but ultimately ended in financial disappointment.

The match itself proved to be a tense, cagey affair that failed to produce a single goal across 90 minutes of regulation time and extra time. With neither side able to break the deadlock through open play, the semifinal was decided from the penalty spot, where the Atlas Lions held their nerve to advance 4-2 and dash Nigeria’s hopes of reaching the final.

Davido, whose real name is David Adeleke, is no stranger to high-stakes gambling and has previously shared his betting activities with his millions of followers. However, this particular wager represents one of his most publicized—and costly—losses.

The singer wasn’t alone in his misfortune. Popular Nigerian TikTok personality Peller also suffered a financial blow, losing $3,000 after betting on Nigeria to win within the standard 90 minutes of play.

In a livestream broadcast shortly after the match, a visibly frustrated Peller addressed his followers with bitter sarcasm. “Thank you, Super Eagles, for playing very well,” he said, his tone dripping with disappointment. “I have lost my $3,000 bet. You guys were playing well in the previous games before I decided to place a bet and watch your match.”

The social media star went on to humorously suggest that his viewership might be jinxing the team’s performance. “Maybe, if I stop watching your games, you will start playing well again,” he lamented, expressing a sentiment shared by many superstitious fans who believe their actions somehow influence match outcomes.

The dual losses underscore the emotional and financial investment that Nigerian celebrities and fans have made in their national team’s AFCON campaign. The Super Eagles had entered the tournament as one of the favorites, and their penalty shootout defeat represents a bitter end to what had been a promising run.

Morocco, meanwhile, advances to the final, where they will face [opponent], as they seek to claim continental glory on home soil.

For Davido and Peller, the night serves as an expensive reminder that in football, as in life, there are no guarantees—no matter how confident you feel or how much money you’re willing to put on the line.

SportsMorocco Edge Nigeria On Penalties To Reach AFCON 2025 Final by tayo2edio12(op): 11:52am On Jan 15
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RRnHqABjrw8[/img]

Goalkeeper Yassine Bounou emerged as the decisive figure as tournament hosts Morocco edged Nigeria 4–2 on penalties to reach the Africa Cup of Nations final, following a gripping semi-final that ended goalless after extra time on Wednesday.

Playing before a charged atmosphere at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Bounou delivered two crucial saves in the shoot-out, denying Samuel Chukwueze and then producing a stunning stop to keep out Bruno Onyemaechi.

His interventions paved the way for Youssef En-Nesyri to slot home the winning penalty, triggering jubilant scenes among the home supporters.

There was a mix of relief and celebration for Hamza Igamane, who had looked devastated moments earlier when his effort was stopped by Nigeria goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali. Igamane was the only Moroccan player to miss, as the rest of the hosts’ takers, including captain Achraf Hakimi, kept their composure from the spot.

Morocco will now face Senegal in Sunday’s final after the Lions of Teranga secured a narrow 1–0 win over Egypt in the other semi-final, with Sadio Mane scoring the decisive goal against Mohamed Salah’s side.

The final will pit Africa’s two highest-ranked teams against each other, promising a fitting climax to the competition.

For Walid Regragui’s Morocco, the victory sustains hopes of ending a 50-year wait for a continental title, buoyed by passionate home backing. For Nigeria, however, the defeat is a painful conclusion, coming just two years after they were beaten in the final by hosts Ivory Coast.

SportsNative Doctor Arrested For Fraud After Mali’s AFCON Exit by tayo2edio12(op): 3:02pm On Jan 13

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7Oy34_Chrw[/img]

A self-styled marabout, commonly described as a traditional folk healer, has been arrested in Mali after allegedly collecting 33,500 euros from supporters by claiming he could guarantee the national team’s success at the Africa Cup of Nations, only for Mali to crash out of the tournament.

Mali’s hopes at the continental competition ended on Friday after a narrow 1-0 defeat to Senegal in the quarter-final stage, a result that immediately turned public anger toward the man who had promised sporting glory through spiritual means.

The suspect, identified only as Mr Sinayogo, reportedly amassed more than 22 million CFA francs in contributions from individuals who believed his assurances, according to one of his associates familiar with the donations.

Following the team’s elimination, tension escalated as a furious crowd reportedly gathered at Sinayogo’s residence, accusing him of deception. Police officers later intervened at the scene and escorted him away to prevent further unrest.

Sinayogo was arrested on Saturday in Bamako, Mali’s capital, on allegations of “fraud” and was subsequently detained at the cybercrime division, according to two videographers who said they visited him after his arrest.

“Charlatanism is punishable by law in Mali”, an official from the division told AFP, explaining that the authorities viewed the matter as a clear case of deception for financial gain.

The official also noted that taking action against the suspect while the national team was still actively competing would have been challenging, describing such a move as difficult “in the heat of the Africa Cup of Nations.”

According to a social media content creator close to the suspect, Sinayogo was previously known as a political activist before abruptly reinventing himself as a spiritual figure. The creator claimed the man “proclaimed himself a marabout overnight and made a fortune”, capitalising on public passion and belief surrounding the national team’s AFCON campaign.

CrimeNigerian Army Arrests Two Suspected Gun Runners In Intelligence-led Operation by tayo2edio12(op): 12:12pm On Jan 13
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y7Oy34_Chrw[/img]

Troops of the 6 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke, have apprehended two individuals suspected of being involved in illegal arms trafficking during a coordinated, intelligence-driven operation in Taraba State.

The arrests were carried out under Operation Peace Shield by personnel of the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army, working in collaboration with operatives of the Defence Intelligence Agency.

The operation led to the tracking and arrest of a suspected gun runner, Mr Christopher Adamu, also known as “Suffer,” who is 48 years old.

Adamu was arrested at Sebos Joint in the Mayo Dasa General Area of Jalingo Local Government Area of Taraba State, following sustained surveillance and intelligence gathering by security operatives.

Initial findings from investigations indicated that the suspect plays an active role in the illegal trade of firearms within the state and its surrounding areas.

Items recovered from him at the point of arrest included a hunter’s identification card, two Automated Teller Machine cards, a National Identification Card, an Itel keypad mobile phone, six rings, a hand band, and various charms.

Further questioning of the suspect reportedly led to a confession, in which he disclosed that he operates alongside an accomplice known as “Chmn,” who is based in Shomo Gari, Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.

Acting on credible intelligence obtained from this confession, troops subsequently moved to apprehend another suspected gun runner, James Yangyang, aged 37. He was arrested at Tautre Village, located on the outskirts of Anguwan Bera in Ardo Kola Local Government Area of the state.

Additional investigation revealed that Christopher Adamu had allegedly sold an AK-47 rifle to one Mr Bazoe John of Murbai Village in Ardo Kola LGA in November 2025, further confirming the presence of a structured arms supply network operating within the area.

Both suspects are presently being held in military custody for further investigation and documentation, after which they are expected to be handed over to appropriate authorities for prosecution in accordance with the law.

Commenting on the successful operation, the Commander of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, praised the troops and intelligence personnel for their discipline, alertness, and effective collaboration in disrupting criminal activities threatening peace in Taraba State.

The commander issued a strong warning to criminal elements, arms traffickers, and their collaborators, stressing that “6 Brigade will not relent in its resolve to rid Taraba State and its environs of illegal arms dealers and all forms of criminal elements.”

He further cautioned that “Those aiding, abetting, or collaborating with criminals, whether within or outside the state, should desist immediately or be ready to face the full weight of the law. Our troops will continue to dominate the battlespace and decisively deal with anyone found undermining peace and security.”

Brigadier General Uwa also appealed to residents of the state to continue cooperating with the Nigerian Army and other security agencies by providing timely and reliable information, assuring the public that such reports would be treated with confidentiality and acted upon promptly.

Political developments in Rivers State shifted again on Thursday as lawmakers in the State House of Assembly formally initiated impeachment proceedings against Governor Siminalayi Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.

The legislators accused both officials of engaging in actions they described as gross misconduct. The move was taken during a plenary session chaired by the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martins Amaewhule. At the sitting, the Majority Leader, Major Jack, formally presented and read a notice outlining allegations and claims of gross misconduct leveled against Governor Fubara.

Invoking Section 188 of the Nigerian Constitution, Jack detailed seven alleged violations attributed to the governor. Among the issues cited were the destruction of the Assembly Complex, expenditures carried out outside approved budgets, and the alleged withholding of statutory funds meant for the Assembly Service Commission. The governor was also accused of disregarding a ruling of the Supreme Court concerning the financial independence of the legislature.

The impeachment notice was endorsed by 26 members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, signaling significant legislative backing for the process.

Following the presentation of the notice, the Speaker stated that the document would be formally served on the governor within seven days. Shortly afterward, the Deputy Leader of the Assembly, Linda Stewart, also presented a separate notice accusing Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu of gross misconduct.

The allegations against Odu include claims of reckless and unconstitutional use of public funds, actions said to have hindered the House of Assembly from carrying out its constitutional responsibilities under the 1999 Constitution, and alleged collaboration to allow unauthorized individuals to occupy offices without proper screening by the duly constituted Assembly.

Additional accusations against the deputy governor include seeking budgetary approval from another group rather than the recognized Rivers State House of Assembly, as well as the alleged seizure of salaries and allowances belonging to the Assembly and the Assembly Service Commission.

Further details are expected as the situation unfolds.

CelebritiesAdekunle Gold And Simi Announce Birth Of Twins by tayo2edio12(op): 12:02pm On Jan 08

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mq4Sb4lXQIM[/img]

In a heartwarming announcement that has set Nigerian social media ablaze, acclaimed music stars Adekunle Gold and Simi have welcomed twins, marking a joyous new chapter for one of the country’s most beloved entertainment couples.

The 37-year-old singer, born Adekunle Kosoko, broke the news to fans via his Snapchat story on Wednesday, sharing an intimate glimpse into what he described as a divine blessing that exceeded expectations.

“Asked God for another child, and he blessed me double,” Gold wrote in the emotional post, confirming that the couple’s family of three has now grown to five.

The announcement arrives as the culmination of months of speculation among the couple’s devoted fanbase. Eagle-eyed followers had noted subtle hints dropped by Simi, particularly a December Instagram post featuring a video that showed the singer displaying a visible baby bump. The cryptic caption—”From my baby, for my babies”—had sent fans into a frenzy of anticipation, though the couple maintained their characteristic privacy regarding personal matters.

True to form, Adekunle Gold and Simi have not yet revealed the gender of their newborn twins, leaving admirers to celebrate the news while eagerly awaiting further details. The couple’s social media platforms have been flooded with congratulatory messages from fans, fellow musicians, and entertainment industry colleagues since Wednesday’s announcement.

The timing of the news has added an extra layer of excitement for fans, coming just weeks after Simi drew attention to a particular scene in her husband’s latest music video, “My Love is the Same.” Many now interpret those social media interactions as subtle nods to their growing family.

Adekunle Gold and Simi’s love story has long captured the public imagination. The pair, who exchanged vows in an intimate ceremony in 2019, share a relationship that predates their fame—rooted in years of friendship and creative collaboration that eventually blossomed into romance. Both artists cut their teeth at X3M Music before launching into solo stardom, and their individual successes have only amplified their collective appeal as Nigeria’s premier music industry power couple.

The twins join five-year-old Adejare Kosoko, affectionately known as Deja, whom the couple welcomed in May 2020 during the height of the global pandemic. The couple has been notably protective of their daughter’s privacy, rarely sharing her image publicly—a practice they will likely continue with their newest additions.

As congratulations continue to pour in from across Nigeria’s entertainment landscape and beyond, the arrival of the twins represents not just a personal milestone for the couple but a moment of collective celebration for their millions of fans who have followed their journey from musical collaborators to life partners to parents of three.

PoliticsWike Accuses Political Actors Of Misleading Fubara by tayo2edio12(op): 1:31pm On Jan 06
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjohJNTmF8g[/img]

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has alleged that certain political figures are deliberately misleading Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, amid the lingering political tension in the state.

Speaking before a gathering of supporters in the Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Wike maintained that agreements reached to resolve the crisis in the oil-rich state must be fully respected and implemented.

Wike stressed that the understanding brokered in the presence of President Bola Tinubu was not informal or speculative, but a clearly defined accord endorsed by all parties involved.

He accused Governor Fubara of failing to adhere to the terms of the agreement, noting that it was formally signed by prominent stakeholders, including former Rivers State Governor Peter Odili, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, leaders of major political parties, and other senior government officials.

According to the former Rivers governor, it was deeply troubling that individuals who openly endorsed the agreement later turned around to misrepresent it to the public. He described such conduct as reckless and warned that it posed a serious threat to political stability in the state.

“People think they can just say anything in politics and it will not matter. It matters. If it did not matter yesterday, it will matter today, and if not today, it will matter tomorrow,” he said.

Wike emphasized that the agreement was collectively accepted and freely signed, arguing that it was dishonest for any of the signatories to later deny or contradict what they had agreed to behind closed doors.

He described Rivers State as a strategic political stronghold in the South-South region and urged leaders to exercise responsibility and truthfulness when addressing issues that could affect peace and cohesion.

Reflecting on past political battles in the state, Wike recalled earlier attempts by certain groups to dismantle the structure of the Peoples Democratic Party in Rivers during a national convention. He said those efforts ultimately failed, adding that subsequent political developments had clearly demonstrated the futility of such actions.

The minister reiterated that his political choices have consistently been guided by fairness, equity, and justice, rather than personal gain or blind party loyalty. He told the gathering that his stance on Rivers politics was rooted in principle and a desire to preserve stability in the state.

Wike also expressed appreciation to the people of Ogu/Bolo for their unwavering support over the years, particularly during periods of intense political pressure.

He went on to commend President Bola Tinubu for what he described as unprecedented appointments of Rivers State indigenes into key federal roles, saying the President had shown sincerity by honouring commitments made to stakeholders in the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Rivers Ijaw Peoples Congress, George Sekibo, openly criticised Governor Fubara, describing him as ungrateful and declaring full support for Wike. He stated that Ijaw leaders were determined to ensure that the governor would not secure a second term and pledged their backing for the FCT Minister.

Similarly, the Executive Director of Finance at the Niger Delta Development Commission, Boma Iyaye, assured Wike of the continued loyalty of the Ogu/Bolo people. He praised the minister for facilitating key federal appointments and driving development initiatives that have benefited the area.

Earlier, the Chairman of Ogu/Bolo Local Government Area, Vincent Nemieboka, outlined several development projects attracted to the council through Wike’s influence. He reaffirmed the council’s loyalty and that of the local population to the former Rivers governor.

The meeting drew a wide range of attendees, including political leaders, traditional rulers, chiefs, and other stakeholders, and was marked by cultural and traditional performances staged to welcome Wike and his entourage.

SportsLookman Plays Down Osimhen Spat As Nigeria Secures AFCON Quarter-final Spot by tayo2edio12(op): 12:13pm On Jan 06
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjohJNTmF8g[/img]

Ademola Lookman has downplayed the brief confrontation between himself and Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s convincing 4-0 win over Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, insisting the moment was nothing more than a normal part of the game.

Nigeria delivered a commanding performance on Monday to book their place in the quarter-finals of the tournament, with Osimhen netting a brace, while Lookman and Akor Adams completed the scoring in a match that underlined the Super Eagles’ attacking strength.

Despite the emphatic scoreline, the encounter was momentarily overshadowed by a tense exchange in the second half when Osimhen appeared frustrated with Lookman following a passage of play. The disagreement quickly drew attention as teammates stepped in to defuse the situation on the pitch.

Osimhen, still visibly unhappy moments later, gestured toward the technical bench requesting to be substituted. The Galatasaray forward was shortly taken off, making way for Moses Simon as Nigeria comfortably saw out the match.

Addressing the incident after the final whistle, Lookman dismissed suggestions of any rift between the two attackers, stressing that there was no lingering issue between them.

“I have not seen Osimhen but I don’t think that matters. Vic is our number one guy, everybody knows this, he’s a top striker. So, all of that doesn’t matter,” Lookman said. “It’s just football. It’s always football. He is my brother.”

Nigeria’s focus now shifts to the quarter-final stage, where the Super Eagles will meet either Algeria or the Democratic Republic of Congo on January 10, as they continue their pursuit of a fourth AFCON crown and build momentum in the tournament.

PoliticsPeter Obi Defects To ADC Ahead Of 2027 Election by tayo2edio12(op): 12:11pm On Jan 03
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j7oomKtkthA[/img]

The Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, alongside several prominent political figures from the South-East geopolitical zone, has officially announced their defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The declaration was made on Wednesday in Enugu, the Enugu State capital, where the leaders converged to publicly align with the ADC after what they described as extensive consultations.

They explained that the decision to join the ADC was informed by a shared resolve to work with opposition figures nationwide to “rescue Nigeria from the poor governance of the All Progressives Congress (APC)”.

Among those present at the gathering were former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; Senators Ben Obi, Victor Umeh, Tony Nwoye and Gilbert Nnaji; Chief Onyema Ugochukwu; Enyinnya Abaribe; Senator Sam Egwu, as well as several serving and former members of the National Assembly.

The event also attracted political leaders from other parts of the country, including former Senate President and National Chairman of the ADC, David Mark; former Sokoto State Governor, Senator Aminu Tambuwal; former governors from the South-East; and other notable political stakeholders.

Speaking at the event, Obi described the move to the ADC as the start of a collective effort to reclaim Nigeria from the grip of the ruling party.

“Today is an important day; today is the last day of 2025, so we are ending this year with the hope that, in 2026, we will begin a journey of the rescue of our country for proper socio-economic development that will be unifying and inclusive.

“We have all watched those who benefited from our democracy, sometime now, become accessories to destroying our democracy, either through coercion and gangsterism against the opposition. We cannot allow this to happen, we will resist it,” Obi said.

The former Anambra State governor further warned that the opposition would not tolerate electoral malpractice ahead of the 2027 general elections, calling on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to adhere strictly to electoral laws.

“And we are saying that those who are planning to rig elections in Nigeria come 2027, we will resist it by every means lawful and legitimate. This happens because we have weak institutions like the INEC, which we are urging to act properly in the coming election.

“We must do whatever it takes to follow the rules and regulations, starting from educational qualification for eligibility to contest or seek any election.

“We can no longer be in a situation where they are asking whether this person went to school or not. We have one year now to determine who went to school and who didn’t go to school,” he said.

Obi stressed that opposition unity remains critical, arguing that the country urgently requires capable and credible leadership to address deepening national disunity.

With this declaration, Obi joins other influential political figures such as Atiku Abubakar, Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, who had earlier announced their defection to the ADC, further shaping the political landscape ahead of the 2027 contest.

SportsAnthony Joshua Set For Heavy Tax Hit After Stopping Jake Paul In Miami by tayo2edio12(op): 1:54pm On Dec 23, 2025
Anthony Joshua is expected to surrender a substantial share of his earnings following his knockout victory over Jake Paul in their much-talked-about heavyweight bout in Miami.

The British star floored and finished Paul in the sixth round of their fight at the Kaseya Center on Friday night. While the ending was decisive, the 36-year-old later admitted that his showing against the YouTuber-turned-boxer was not without its shortcomings.

Speaking with talkSPORT after the contest, Joshua said he understood why some critics questioned why the fight lasted six rounds. “I deserve it,” he said when asked about the backlash. “Because we are elite fighters, if I put myself in the shoes of a coach, if my fighter did six rounds with Jake Paul, I would get him back in the gym tomorrow, give him a bit of a beating and get straight back to work. I’d be like, ‘How are you letting this kid take you six rounds? Are you crazy?’”

He added that while the result could not be changed, he still gave Paul credit for his effort. “But I can’t go back in time, but credit to him, he done well. I told him what would happen but it just took six rounds to do it.”

Joshua and Paul are believed to have split a prize fund estimated at around £137 million, with each man earning close to £68.5 million from the Netflix-streamed event. Referee Christopher Young waved off the fight at 1:31 of the sixth round, after both fighters had spent a combined 989 seconds in the ring. For Joshua, that translates to roughly £69,000 per second or about £4.1 million per minute.

Despite the staggering figures, the former two-time unified heavyweight champion will not receive the full amount. As a UK resident competing in the United States, Joshua is required to pay taxes in both jurisdictions.

Data cited by AceOdds suggests that around 37 per cent of his purse, approximately £25.6 million, will go to the US Internal Revenue Service. Although Florida does not impose a state income tax, the fact that the contest was staged on American soil means Joshua is liable for US federal income tax at the top rate.

On top of that, he is expected to meet his UK tax obligations, including an estimated £5.5 million owed to HMRC and about £1.4 million in National Insurance contributions. Altogether, Joshua’s tax bill is projected to be close to £32 million.

Even with such eye-watering deductions, Joshua insists financial gain was not the driving force behind taking the fight. “It’s not even my biggest payday; it’s not about money,” he said. “For me, it was more about the opportunity. I had to showcase my skills to the world.”

CrimeTrump Warns Epstein Files Could Tarnish Reputations Of Innocent Associates by tayo2edio12(op): 1:23pm On Dec 23, 2025
US President Donald Trump on Monday cautioned that individuals who merely “innocently met” convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in the past could see their reputations unfairly damaged by the public release of investigative records linked to the case.

Speaking for the first time since the Justice Department began making the Epstein-related files public on Friday, Trump downplayed the controversy, arguing that it was being used to divert attention from what he described as major accomplishments by his party.

“This whole thing with Epstein is a way of trying to deflect from the tremendous success that the Republican Party has,” he told reporters at his Mar-a-Lago residence.

Asked to react to former president Bill Clinton’s appearance in several photographs contained in the initial batch of materials released by the Justice Department, Trump struck a conciliatory tone.

“I like Bill Clinton. I’ve always gotten along with Bill Clinton. I hate to see photos come out of him,” he said.

“There’s photos of me too,” Trump added. “Everybody was friendly with this guy (Epstein).”

The president said he was uncomfortable with the circulation of images showing Clinton and others, describing the situation as a “terrible thing.”

“Bill Clinton’s a big boy, he can handle it,” he remarked.

Trump went on to warn that the release could implicate many other prominent figures who had no involvement in Epstein’s crimes beyond casual or social encounters years earlier.

“But you probably have pictures being exposed of other people that innocently met Jeffrey Epstein years ago, many years ago, and they’re highly respected bankers and lawyers and others,” he said.

According to Trump, the disclosure of such images has sparked anger among those who believe innocent people are being unfairly associated with Epstein.

The Republican president said a “lot of people are very angry that pictures are being released of other people that really had nothing to do with Epstein.

“But they’re in a picture with him because he was at a party and you ruin a reputation of somebody,” he said.

Epstein, a wealthy financier with extensive social and political connections, died in a New York jail cell in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex-trafficking charges, in a death that was officially ruled a suicide.

PoliticsTinubu Seeks Senate Approval For New Heads Of Petroleum Regulators by tayo2edio12(op): 11:59am On Dec 18, 2025
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1mim6BFFmA[/img]

President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday formally requested the Senate’s approval for the appointment of new chief executives to head Nigeria’s petroleum regulatory agencies following the resignation of their substantive leaders.

The agencies affected are the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority and the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, both institutions established under the Petroleum Industry Act to oversee key segments of the oil and gas sector.

The departures involve Mr Farouk Ahmed, who served as Chief Executive of the NMDPRA, and Mr Gbenga Komolafe, who was Chief Executive of the NUPRC. Both officials were appointed in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari to steer the newly created regulators at the inception of the Petroleum Industry Act framework.

In separate correspondence addressed to the Senate, President Tinubu nominated Mrs Oritsemeyiwa Amanorisewo Eyesan to assume leadership of the NUPRC, while Mr Saidu Aliyu Mohammed was put forward as Chief Executive of the NMDPRA.

The President urged lawmakers to handle the confirmation process promptly, noting that swift approval would “ensure continuity and stability within the petroleum regulatory framework.”

Eyesan is an experienced petroleum economist with almost 33 years of service at the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and its subsidiaries. She holds a degree in Economics from the University of Benin and retired recently as Executive Vice President, Upstream, at NNPC Ltd., a position she held between 2023 and 2024. Before then, she served as Group General Manager, Corporate Planning and Strategy, from 2019 to 2023, where she played a role in advancing strategic reforms in Nigeria’s upstream oil sector.

Mohammed, born in 1957 in Gombe State, earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 1981. He most recently served as an independent non-executive director at Seplat Energy and brings decades of leadership experience across Nigeria’s oil and gas industry.

His career includes stints as Managing Director of the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company and the Nigerian Gas Company. He also chaired the boards of the West African Gas Pipeline Company, Nigeria LNG subsidiaries and NNPC Retail. Mohammed previously served as Group Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer for the Gas and Power Directorate, where he provided leadership on major gas projects and policy initiatives.

His contributions span the development of the Gas Masterplan, the Gas Network Code and inputs into the Petroleum Industry Act. He also played significant roles in the execution of projects such as the Escravos–Lagos Pipeline Expansion, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano Gas Pipeline and multiple Nigeria LNG train expansions.

The nominations were communicated through a statement issued by the President’s spokesman, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

PoliticsBurkina Faso Frees 11 Nigerian Air Force Crew After Diplomacy by tayo2edio12(op): 11:47am On Dec 18, 2025
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c1mim6BFFmA[/img]
The Federal Government has officially confirmed that the Nigerian Air Force aircraft and the 11 soldiers detained in Burkina Faso following a forced landing have been released.

This confirmation was given on Wednesday night by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr Kimiebi Ebienfa, who stated simply, “Yes, they have been released.”

The development followed a high-level diplomatic engagement led by Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr Yusuf Tuggar, who met with Burkina Faso’s junta leader, Mr Ibrahim Traoré, in Ouagadougou on Wednesday.

Speaking during a press briefing, Tuggar explained that the visit was undertaken at the directive of President Bola Tinubu, underscoring Nigeria’s commitment to resolving the issue through diplomatic channels.

The incident occurred nearly two weeks ago when a Nigerian Air Force C-130 aircraft, carrying 11 soldiers, was compelled to make an emergency landing in Bobo Dioulasso. The aircraft was reportedly on a ferry mission to Portugal at the time.

Earlier, the Director of Public Relations of the Nigerian Air Force, Mr Ehimen Ejodame, had clarified that the crew detected a technical fault mid-flight and executed a precautionary landing at the nearest available airfield, in line with established international aviation protocols.

Despite this explanation, the situation escalated after Mali’s junta leader, Mr Assimi Goita, speaking on behalf of the Confederation of Sahel States, described the landing as an “unfriendly act carried out in defiance of international law.” He further warned that member states were authorised to neutralise aircraft deemed to have violated their airspace.

The release of both the aircraft and the detained personnel signals a de-escalation of tensions and highlights the role of diplomatic engagement in resolving sensitive regional security issues.

CrimePolice To Resume Enforcement Of Tinted Glass Permit Policy From January 2 by tayo2edio12(op): 3:00pm On Dec 16, 2025
The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will recommence the enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy nationwide starting January 2, 2026, citing rising security threats linked to the use of unauthorised tinted vehicle windows.

The disclosure was made on Monday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, who explained that the decision followed an internal assessment of worsening vehicle-related crimes across the country. According to him, the renewed enforcement is aimed at enhancing public safety and addressing loopholes being exploited by criminals.

Hundeyin stated that the police were not restrained by any court order from enforcing the law, but had earlier suspended the exercise voluntarily in October to allow motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation. He noted that the pause was also influenced by engagements with concerned stakeholders.

“Recent trends, however, reveal a disturbing rise in criminal activities perpetrated with the aid of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass,” the police spokesman said. “Some individuals and organised criminal groups have exploited this gap to conceal their identities and facilitate crimes ranging from armed robbery to kidnapping and other violent crimes.”

He further quoted the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, as assuring Nigerians that the renewed enforcement would be carried out in a lawful and professional manner, with full respect for fundamental human rights.

According to the statement, motorists who require tinted glass permits have been advised to apply through officially approved channels to ensure compliance before the enforcement date. Hundeyin reiterated that the police remain committed to fairness and transparency in enforcing all existing laws while working closely with relevant justice sector stakeholders.

The tinted glass permit policy had earlier been suspended after legal concerns were raised, including a suit filed by the Nigerian Bar Association against the Inspector-General of Police. The NBA had argued that the policy was illegal and relied on the Motor Tinted Glass (Prohibition) Act of 1991, which it described as a military-era decree with questionable validity in a democratic setting.

In April 2025, the IGP had introduced the requirement for motorists to obtain annual tinted glass permits from the Nigeria Police Force through an online application platform. However, the policy attracted public backlash and legal scrutiny, prompting its temporary suspension.

Despite these concerns, the police insist that the resurgence of crimes linked to tinted vehicles necessitated a return to enforcement, stressing that public safety remains paramount.

CelebritiesFRSC Orders Prosecution Of Tiktok Streamer Peller Over Distracted Driving Crash by tayo2edio12(op): 2:37pm On Dec 16, 2025
[img]
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YxMOCeT9fXg[/img]

The Federal Road Safety Corps has moved to prosecute popular TikTok content creator Habeeb Hamzat, better known as Peller, after a video surfaced online showing him livestreaming while driving, an action that culminated in a traffic accident.

The directive was issued by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, who reacted to the viral footage through a statement released on Monday and signed by the Corps Public Education Officer, Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Mohammed voiced serious concern over what he described as an emerging pattern of dangerous conduct on Nigerian roads, particularly by celebrities, influencers and online content creators seeking engagement at the expense of public safety.

The statement came in response to the circulation of a video in which the streamer was seen driving in a visibly distressed state while engaging viewers during a live broadcast. The incident ended in a crash that deployed the vehicle’s airbag and attracted assistance from people nearby.

According to the FRSC, the behaviour captured in the video constitutes a clear breach of traffic regulations and represents a significant threat to other road users who had no part in the act.

As a result, the Corps Marshal instructed the Lagos State Sector Commander to “immediately activate all necessary processes for the prosecution of the individual involved for reckless driving, use of phone while driving, and distracted driving, in accordance with extant traffic laws.”

Mohammed stressed that celebrity status offers no protection from legal consequences, stating that, “This incident, which could have resulted in loss of lives, serves as a grim reminder that fame does not confer immunity from the law, nor does it excuse dangerous behaviour on public roads.”

He further appealed to actors’ guilds, entertainment bodies, influencer circles and online creator communities to take responsibility for guiding their members toward safer conduct, noting the strong influence such figures wield, especially among young Nigerians.

“The FRSC will not hesitate to apply the full weight of the law against any individual, celebrity or otherwise, found engaging in distracted or reckless driving,” the statement said, warning that no online trend or digital popularity justifies the risk to human life.

The Corps Marshal also reminded citizens that highways are not content studios, urging motorists to comply with traffic laws and to report reckless behaviour whenever it is observed.

Reaffirming its mandate, the FRSC said it remains committed to improving road safety nationwide, emphasising that safer roads depend on collective responsibility, discipline and strict adherence to the law, without exceptions.

Meanwhile, online discussions have continued around the incident, with some social media users linking it to personal issues involving another content creator, Jarvis. These claims have not been confirmed and were not mentioned in the official FRSC statement.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has doubled down on his directive to withdraw police escorts from VIPs, insisting that officers must be redeployed to areas battling insecurity. What does this bold insistence reveal about the nation’s security priorities — and who might be affected?

At the same time, Tinubu is pushing hard for political unity in Osun State, meeting with APC leaders and aspirants ahead of the December 13 primary. Behind the scenes, Accord Party has confirmed Governor Ademola Adeleke as its sole governorship aspirant for 2026 — a twist that may reshape the coming election cycle.

Over in Rivers State, political tensions flare once again as Speaker Martin Amaewhule accuses Governor Siminalayi Fubara of reopening old wounds. Could this reignite the state’s long-standing political crisis?

Northern governors also made a strategic move, appointing Ezekiel Gomos as Director-General of their Forum’s secretariat. And adding to the public debate, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka questions the unusually heavy security detail surrounding Seyi Tinubu — sparking national conversations about power, privilege, and accountability.

In the judiciary, the drama intensifies: Justice James Omotosho dismisses former Power Minister Saleh Mamman’s no-case submission, while the EFCC prepares to arraign former Labour Minister and ex-Anambra Governor Dr. Chris Ngige after a dramatic early-morning arrest.

On the international front, former Bolivian President Luis Arce is detained as investigators widen a corruption probe dating back to his time as economy minister.

And in sports, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen continues to break global barriers — crowned GQ Turkey’s Sportsman of the Year at a star-studded gala in Istanbul.
