Chelsea’s poor start to the season continued as they were beaten by Porto in the Champions League. Download video: FC Porto 2 – 1 Chelsea [Champions League] Highlights 2015/16 Andre Andre gave Porto the lead, volleying in after Asmir Begovic pushed away Yacine Brahimi’s effort. Midfielder Willian equalised on the stroke of half-time, with a superb free-kick from the edge of the area. Maicon put the home side ahead again with a flicked header at the front post, before Diego Costa rattled the bar with a curling shot. Chelsea’s Cesc Fabregas and Pedro both forced Spain team-mate Iker Casillas – making a record 152nd appearance in the competition – into saves early on. But despite their early pressure, and a late penalty claim for a handball by Ivan Marcano, they came away from the Estadio do Dragao with nothing. The Gunners goalkeeper knocked the ball over his own line to restore the visitors’ lead as Arsene Wenger’s men lost a second Champions League game in a row Substitute Alfred Finnbogason was the match-winner for Olympiacos as his strike condemned Arsenal to a 3-2 defeat at the Emirates Stadium in the Champions League on Tuesday. Arsene Wenger’s side remain pointless in Group F as they had nothing to show for their efforts despite twice equalising as suspect defending and a calamitous David Ospina error helped ensure Olympiacos their first win on English soil. Theo Walcott was picked to replace the suspended Olivier Giroud and the England international looked to have ensured Arsenal parity at the break, having cancelled out Felipe Pardo’s 33rd-minute opener. However, Ospina inexplicably dropped Kostas Fortounis’ corner behind the line five minutes before half-time – the goalkeeper having been selected ahead of regular number one Petr Cech. Walcott turned provider for Alexis Sanchez to equalise for a second time shortly after the hour but Arsenal were again caught flat-footed as the visitors broke from kick-off – Finnbogason making his impact off the bench with a well-taken finish from close range. It leaves Arsenal’s hopes of progression looking gloomy, while the severity of the injury that forced Laurent Koscielny off could add further frustration for Wenger – who will face difficult questions on his goalkeeping selection on the eve of the 19th anniversary of his appointment in north London. http://tatafodroid.com.ng/video-arsenal-2-3-olympiacos-champions-league-highlights-201516/ |
The Bavarians recorded back to back victories in Europe after goals from Douglas Costa, Mario Gotze and another hat-trick from Robert Lewandowski sealed a comfortable win. Download video: Bayern Munich 5 – 0 Dinamo Zagreb [Champions League] Highlights 2015/16 Robert Lewandowski continued his sparkling form, scoring a hat-trick as Bayern Munich made a mockery ofDinamo Zagreb’s 45-match unbeaten run with a 5-0 Champions League rout at the Allianz Arena. Croatian champions Dinamo had not lost a competitive match since a 1-0 reverse to Astra in the Europea League last November and beat Arsenal in their Group F opener. But Bayern’s gulf in class was evident from the start of Tuesday’s contest with Lewandowski once more leading by example by making it 10 goals in his past three outings. Pep Guardiola’s side were rampant in the first half and raced into a 4-0 lead after 28 minutes, Lewandowski tapping in the second after Douglas Costa had opened the scoring. A goalkeeping gaffe from Eduardo allowed Mario Gotze to get on the scoresheet, before Lewandowski doubled his tally from a Costa corner. The Poland international then finished a fine move to complete his hat-trick after the break, as Bayern – who have won all seven of their Bundesliga matches this season – warmed up perfectly for Sunday’s clash with rivals Borussia Dortmund. Kyriakos Papadopoulos headed Leverkusen into a deserved lead midway through the first half, and Barca found it hard to break through a well-organised visiting defence. Neymar struck the post and Sandro – in for the injured Lionel Messi – was denied by a goal-line block but chances were few and far between for the home side, who lost Andres Iniesta to injury in the second half. But substitute Sergi Roberto pounced in the closing 10 minutes to level the scores and Suarez’s thumping finish snatched an unlikely victory for the holders, who move above Leverkusen at the top of the group. Camp Nou was deafening prior to kick-off – the Uefa anthem greeted with a chorus of boos – but Javier Hernandez almost silenced the home crowd after less than two minutes, forcing Marc-Andre ter Stegen into a smart save at his near post. Barcelona responded, Ivan Rakitic placing a header straight at Bernd Leno after Neymar’s delicate cross before the goalkeeper saved superbly from Sandro after the 20-year-old’s brilliant one-two with Suarez. The England international scored his first goals since returning from injury after James Milner early strike, with Rudy Gestede netting two of his own for the visitors. Daniel Sturridge scored twice as Liverpool eased the pressure on manager Brendan Rodgers with victory over Aston Villa. James Milner gave the hosts the lead inside two minutes before combining with Sturridge after the break as the England striker volleyed past Brad Guzan. Rudy Gestede pulled one back for Tim Sherwood’s side from close-range, but Sturridge looked to have sealed the three points for the Reds as he finished with aplomb from Philippe Coutinho backheel pass. Gestede had other ideas, however, as he netted his second of the match with a powerful header, but Rodgers side hung on to register a first league win in five matches. Having not previously scored this season, the Chile international excelled with three goals at the King Power Stadium, with Theo Walcott and Olivier Giroud also finding the net. The last unbeaten record of the Premier League season fell on Saturday as Arsenal came away from the King Power Stadium with a 4-1 victory over Leicester City, Alexis Sanchez roaring back into form with a hat-trick. Claudio Ranieri’s side took the lead early in the game when Jamie Vardy was released down the left and fired home froma narrow angle but Theo Walcott exploited his pace to equalise just five minutes later. Alexis finally scored his first goal of the season to see the Gunners through to half-time with an advantage and the Chilean followed up just short of the hour when he headed in from Mesut Ozil’s cross. The Arsenal forward then sealed his hat-trick in the 81st minute, skipping inside a defender to shoot long and low into the bottom corner from 25 yards. There was a consolation for Leicester late in the day when Vardy scored his second of the match, a curling finish after Arsenal failed to properly clear the ball, but there was no question that the Alexis-inspired visitors were going to lose control of the result. That much was confirmed when Olivier Giroud swept in a fifth for Arsene Wenger’s men at the death.
