Phones / Re: Samsung Galaxy S10 Rumors: Everything You Need To Know ( PIC) by techki33: 12:08pm On Apr 02, 2018
techki33:
It's hard to believe that just weeks after Samsung released its Galaxy S9 and Galaxy S9+, we're already talking about the Galaxy S10. But such is the technology world we live in.

In truth, the Galaxy S10 and, presumably, the S10+ promise to be the most important Samsung releases in years. The handsets will go up against three new iPhones from Apple that are expected to debut this fall, and the new Galaxies could be the first from Samsung to offer 3D face scanners.

Of course, things very well could change dramatically in the coming months. Regardless, here's what we've heard about the Galaxy S10 so far.

SOURCE: Samsung Galaxy S10 Rumors: Everything You Need to Know

A 3D face scanner

Samsung has been criticized for not having a 3D face scanner to compete with the Face ID in Apple's iPhone X. But a report from The Investor says that Samsung has partnered with 3D camera firm Mantis Vision to finally get a 3D scanner into the Galaxy S10.

Not much is known about the feature yet, but it's believed that the Mantis Vision technology will be able to compete on the same level as the Face ID feature on the iPhone X.

True bezel-free design, in-screen fingerprint reader

Samsung is clearly a believer in a bezel-less design and will likely remain so in 2019. In fact, according to a report in The Indian Express, the World Intellectual Property Organization recently published a Samsung patent filing that describes a new smartphone design featuring a completely bezel-less design.

Better yet, the patent shows a fingerprint scanner under the display, suggesting that this feature could also make its way to a Galaxy handset. While it's unclear whether the patent design will appear in the Galaxy S10, there's a good chance we'll see some sort of design overhaul in 2019.

Sticking with Qualcomm
In a move that could inform what happens in the Galaxy S10, Samsung in February announced that it had invested $5.6 billion in a new factory to build 7-nanometer chipsets. Not only would that allow for a smaller chip, but it would also pave the way for the company to make a variety of design changes with the extra room it'll have inside the handset.............................

Release date
It's too soon to predict the exact release date for the Galaxy S10, but if history is any guide, Samsung will likely stick to a similar timetable in 2019 as in other years. That means you should expect to see the new handset announced at next year's Mobile World Congress show, which gets underway Feb. 25. If Samsung follows a similar pattern for the S10 as did for the S9, the new phone would hit shelves by mid-March 2019.

Phones / Canon Launches New Cameras For Those Who Want To Level Up From Smartphones (PIC) by techki33: 9:50pm On Apr 01, 2018
Canon launches new cameras for those who want to level up from smartphones

MANILA -- Japan's Canon Inc. is confident that there is still a large market for cameras independent of smartphones as it introduced a new line of cameras, including two entry level DSLRs, a mid- to high-range digital camera, and a high-end point and shoot.

“With smartphones, there came a good culture of taking pictures. But after that, people look for quality and shoot better pictures," the company said at a recent press launch.

"If you want a long shoot, a mobile phone can’t help you. If you want a low light shoot, a mobile phone cannot help you. And also, when you want to use manual features, a mobile phone can help you but there are limitations.”

Canon said it's new cameras are meant for people who want to graduate from smartphone photography.

One of the main tech features introduced is real-time transmission to the mobile phone the moment the shutter is clicked through a Canon app available on iOS and Android. A photographer can get a cheaper phone with a lower quality camera but can still post high quality images on his or her social media platform of choice.

The gadget that got the loudest reactions from the audience, however, was not a camera but the EX470-AI flash. view source for more details

Phones / Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Reportedly The First Smartphone To Get April Security by techki33: 7:49pm On Apr 01, 2018
Samsung Galaxy J3 (2017) Reportedly the First Smartphone to Get April Security Patch Update

Similar to the March Android security update for Pixel and Nexus smartphones that Google announced last month, the company rolls out monthly security updates for Android smartphones. But a new report suggests that a Samsung smartphone has already received the April security patch. While Samsung is already seemingly pushing out the April security update on just one of its handsets, we can expect a wider rollout soon.

As per a report by SamMobile, the Galaxy J3 (2017) is the first (and only) smartphone to have received the Android security patch for April. Samsung had launched the smartphone back in June last year. While the company launched two different variants in the US and in the European markets, the handset did not arrive in India. As of now, it remains unclear why Samsung chose this budget-smartphone to roll out the April Android security update instead of some flagship model.

Meanwhile, there is no clarity on what the April Android security patch brings as there is no changelog available. These security patches are rolled out by Google every month, alongside official information on what that patch entails. This means we will get to know more about the changes and bug fixes when Google officially announces on its website.

Notably, the update is currently available in only a few European countries like Luxembourg and the Netherlands, but it's likely to roll out to other regions in the coming days. You can download the update, when it is available, from Settings > Software update. Alternatively, there are OTA zip files that can be installed on devices with an unlocked bootloader. OTA zip files can also be sideloaded on top of the existing software version. SOURCE: PAM TECH

ThinkPads are unmistakable. While other OEMs focus on achieving the thinnest and lightest chassis, the perfect shade of rose gold to attract the masses, and nearly invisible bezels, Lenovo has given the ThinkPad family thoughtful updates that keep its original focus and also attempt to stay on top of the newest laptop design and use innovations.

The 2018 ThinkPad X1 Carbon combines a familiar yet durable and sleek design with a few new features—an HDR-ready screen, a webcam shutter, and new mics. While these are small updates overall, they show that Lenovo continues to pay attention to what its customers want as well as what they may want in the future. The new X1 Carbon reminds us all that Lenovo's classic laptop line can hold its own against flashier, trendier competing devices—it can even outshine them in some ways. Webmasters / Google Has Announced To Kill Its URL Shortener - Read Details by techki33: 8:55pm On Mar 31, 2018
Google has announced it is winding down its URL shortener named starting April 13 and asked users to consider using app-centric Firebase Dynamic Links(FDL) or similar popular services like Bitly and Ow.ly as an alternative.

FDLs are smart URLs that allow one to send existing and potential users to any location within an iOS, Android or web platform.

"Starting April 13, 2018, anonymous users and users who have never created short links before today will not be able to create new short links via the console," Michael Hermanto, Software Engineer, Firebase, wrote in a blog post on Saturday.

"If you have existing short links, you can continue to use all features of console for a period of one year, until March 30, 2019, when we will discontinue the console," the report added.

The URL Shortener is very common and was first launched by the search engine giant in 2009. SOURCE

Phone/Internet Market / Xiaomi Launches New Gaming Laptop, Price, Specs & Photos - Tech Updates by techki33: 8:32pm On Mar 31, 2018
Xiaomi keeps growing each year and it has produced a lot of high quality products since its inception. Now, the Chinese Giants are set to take the PC gaming section by storm with its new gadget. Xiaomi has launched a gaming laptop, which is speculated to be a very huge success. check out: 3 new devices: Mi Mix 2, Mi Gaming Laptop and Mi AI Speaker min Xiaomi launches

The company is bringing out a laptop which has been named Mi Gaming Laptop. The device is currently exclusive to the Chinese market. It was introduced at the company’s Mi Mix 2S event alongside the Mi Mix 2S smartphone.

Now let’s dive right into the specs. The laptop is pretty solid. It has a 15.6-inch screen and Nvidia GTX 1060 graphics, with a 7th-generation Intel Core 7 processor. There is 16GB of RAM, a 256GB solid-state drive, and 1TB of hard disk storage.

“The Mi Home store in Shenzhen already has Xiaomi’s new gaming notebook on display todaypic.twitter.com/L3wcf6HKtR— Bryan Ma (@bryanbma) March 28, 2018”

This laptop will cost you about $1,430. There is another version of the Mi Gaming Laptop which is cheaper but it is less powerful. If you are interested, I’ll leave the specs here. It has Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti, 8GB of RAM, and a 128GB solid-state drive. The cheaper version keeps the 1TB hard disk. Both of the above mentioned versions come with ample ports, which includes a multiple USB 3.0 and USB-C, a HDMI port, and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Like every other product, we don’t know if this product will ever be released for Europe or North America. This is step in the right direction for Xiaomi, who have been branded as Apple copycats with their previous releases such as Mi Notebook Pro and Mi Notebook Air.

What are your views on this Xiaomi product? Do you think that it will make its way to Nigeria Market? Let me know in the comments below.

most common Android malicious apps will do at least one of the following:

1. Collect and send GPS coordinates, contact lists, e-mail
addresses etc. to third parties
2. Send SMSs to premium-rate numbers
3. Subscribe infected phones to premium services
4. Record phone conversations and send them to attackers

techki33:
What can an Android malicious app do?

The vast majority of malware on Android is focused on
stealing your information, which is obviously a major concern.
Perhaps the worst case scenario at the moment is malware
that sends SMS messages to premium rate numbers.

Unfortunately, as we mentioned before, malware writers are
employing ever more sophisticated techniques to fool you.
There are apps that clone legitimate apps to fool you into
downloading them and apps that are malware free when you
first install them, but download malware through the update
system.

As a way to make revenue, advertising companies are getting
more and more aggressive by including functionality in their
apps to display ads in the notification bar, adding bookmarks,
or creating search engine shortcuts to the home screen.

These advertising apps can also send off personal data pertaining to
your device or account and will often require more
permissions to access functionality of your device than the
free app you downloaded requires.
