https://naijaloaded-14fckyzftwhxrd5ctbau.stackpathdns.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/san.jpf_.jpg The race for the top four will take another pivotal turn on Sunday as Arsenal host Manchester City at the Emirates Stadium. The hosts have slipped down to sixth place courtesy of a poor run of form before the international break, while Man City sit seven points better off in third. This is surely the lowest point yet ofWenger’s long reign. Pressure on him to stand down at the end of the season has reached unprecedented levels, and it seems for the first time as if the majority of the Arsenal fans are now in the ‘Wenger Out’ camp. TheGunnershave suffered four defeats in their last five Premier League games – their worst ever run of form underWenger– and in the meantime they were also humiliated on the European stage by a 10-2 aggregate loss at the hands ofBayern Munich. Such form has seen them slump to sixth in the table – only the second time in Premier League history that they have been outside the top five in April – and just as damagingly has created a civil war of sorts amongst supporters. City, however, come into this weekend’s match in much better shape than their hosts and, while Guardiola has said for some time that Chelsea are out of reach, second place is still very much in their sights with a two-point gap separating them from Tottenham Hotspur. Back-to-back draws – the last of which was a breathless and frantic stalemate with Liverpool before the international break – have harmed their chances, though, and the fixture list does not make particularly good reading over the closing stages of the campaign. https://naijaloaded-14fckyzftwhxrd5ctbau.stackpathdns.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/sane-700x394.jpg After Sunday’s trip to the Emirates Stadiumthey will return to London on Wednesday to face the runaway league leaders Chelsea, while they must also take on Manchester United before the season is over– not forgetting their continued participation in the FA Cup. Team News- Arsenalcould finally welcomeOzilback into the starting XI following a six-week spell on the sidelines. However, the Gunners do have injury concerns elsewhere, withPetr Cechruled out due to a calf injury andLucas Perezunavailable because of a thigh problem. CitytrioKevin De Bruyne, Raheem Sterling and Pablo Zabaletaall suffered injury scares during the international break but have recovered in time for the weekend and should be available for selection. Bacary Sagnahas also overcome a groin strain, leaving long-term absentees Ilkay Gundogan and Gabriel Jesus as Guardiola’s only injury concerns. Arsenal possible starting lineup: Ospina; Bellerin, Mustafi, Koscielny, Monreal; Xhaka, Elneny, Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez; Giroud Man City possible starting lineup: Caballero; Fernandinho, Stones, Otamendi, Clichy; Sterling, De Bruyne, Toure, Silva, Sane; Aguero https://naijaloaded-14fckyzftwhxrd5ctbau.stackpathdns.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/ars.jpg Who are you tipping to win this tough match? https://pmexpressng.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Iyanya-2.jpg Iyanya was at his waist-twisting and torso-baring best on Wednesday night when he unveiled his new EP, Signature. The Afro-pop star rolled back the years by performing live songs from the highly anticipated 7-track album on stage at Hard Rock Café, Oniru, Lagos in an Industry Night Special. Dressed in a colourful camouflage-jacket, the Mavin Records artist mounted the stage at midnight and left no one in doubt inside the packed hall that he was well and truly back. Like an artist with a blank canvas spread out before him, Iyanya jumped, whined and crooned on the big stage fully aware that it was his night for the taking, and he owned it. On the same night, his seven-track EP was released online to a global audience and has since dominated discussions on social media. Entitled ‘Signature,’ the body of work was produced by Mavin Records founder, Don Jazzy assisted by Altims and Baby Fresh. Iyanya has been on a new lease of life since being backed by leading talent agency, Temple Management Company and Mavin Records. As if by celestial conspiracy, the Lagos weather even attested to Iyanya’s new found mojo as it gave way to heavy rainfall that poured while his performance continued safely inside the comfort of the walls of Hard Rock Cafe. His performance saw a medley of songs from his new EP such as Odoyewu, Hold On, Baby Answer, Not Forgotten, Celebrate, Nobody Has To Know, Bow For You and bonus track Up 2 Sumtin featuring Don Jazzy and Dr Sid. Attesting to Iyanya’s new found vigour, Dr. Sid told the audience something many have never heard about Iyanya. The We Up crooner had joined Iyanya to perform the hit, Up 2 Sumtin. To buttress his point further, Dr. Sid went on to reveal how Iyanya is having a healthy influence on his Mavin Records colleagues. “Iyanya is the best thing to happen to Mavin Records. He has made the rest of us look lazy with his work rate and I am not saying this because he is here. Iyanya has recorded over 50 songs in less than three months!” Dr. Sid exclaimed. The most emotional moment of the night came when he performed a sober tune, Not Forgotten, the most introspective song off his EP and inarguably his most personal to date. For a moment, it seemed as if the singer would break down in tears. At his request, Mavin Records producer, Altims played the piano in the background whilst Iyanya stood still, eyes shot and lost in his own thoughts for what seemed like forever. Iyanya is an orphan having lost his parents two years apart in 2008 and 2010. For Iyanya’s Mavin Records colleagues, the night was a karaoke session as they sang ever song line-by-line with the musician. Iyanya would later describe the Don Jazzy founded group as a “happy company” and expressed how “blessed” he was to be a member of the biggest record label in Nigeria. The late evening of fun also witnessed brilliant performances by two Temple Management artists, Gongo Aso crooner, 9ice and ex-winner of MTN Project Fame West Africa, Jeff Akoh. Jeff sang to a live band and served as a more than capable foil to Iyanya whilst 9ice performed his smash hit Living Things. From a corner occupied by Mavin Records artistes, Don Jazzy danced and sang along happily through Iyanya’s performance. Virtually all the artistes on the label were present including Tiwa Savage, Korede Bello, D’Prince, Dr Sid, Dija, Reekado Banks, Poe and DNA Twins. Other artistes and celebrities who came to support Iyanya include Tekno, Sheyman, Reminisce, Uche Jombo and Ebi Onome among others. Source: http://TechPaded.Tk |

A House of Representatives committee has ordered one Dr Jamila Shu’ara, a former permanent secretary in the Federal Ministry of Education, to refund salaries and entitlements she received for one year over illegal extension of service. The committee also directed the Head of Service of the Federation to invoke relevant Civil Service rules to recover, within four weeks, all the emoluments Shu’ara collected within the period of the extension. Shu’ara was supposed to retire from service on February 17, 2016 after attaining the mandatory retirement age of 60, but she had her tenure extended to February, 2017. https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/data/attachments/92/92085-24d645a03d23c65577ef5680e5d61e6f.jpg fter the expiration of the extension, her tenure was said to be extended further for one year through a letter by the Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari. In the letter addressed to the HoS, the COS said Shu’ara’s second extension of service was under a special dispensation that should not be cited as a policy. But members of the committee faulted the content of the letter, saying the chief of staff to the president could not cite the Constitution on one hand only to turn and say it should not be cited as a policy. source: http://TechPaded.Tk |

A Nigerian pilot who works for Air Djibouti has become the first African pilot in history to fly solo around the world. Ademilola “Lola” Odujinrin completed the final leg of his historic journey Wednesday afternoon, landing safely at Washington Dulles International Airport. The pilot has completed the entire circumnavigation in a Cirrus SR22, stopping in more than 15 countries on five continents, returning to Washington DC, where his journey began back in September. The flight is part of Project Transcend, a foundation which aims to inspire young people to achieve their goals, regardless of their personal circumstances. Ademilola says: “Ever since I was a child, I dreamed of one day flying around the world. We have a responsibility to lead by example and follow our dreams. I want African children to think: ‘I can do this too!’” I would like to extend my sincere gratitude to Air Djibouti’s Chairman, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, and Cardiff Aviation’s Chairman, Bruce D!ckinson, who have supported me throughout this journey. Without them, this would not have been possible.”Both formed part of a high-level delegation to welcome the historic aviator on the tarmac at Dulles Airport, including: the Ambassador of Djibouti to the United States, His Excellency, Mr. Mohamed Siad Doualeh; Senior Director of Strategic Planning for Djibouti Ports & Free Zones Authority, Mr. Dawit Michael Gebre-ab; and Chief Operating Officer of Air Djibouti, Mr. Moussa Houssein. Other distinguished guests included the CEO Africa World Press, which plans to publish a book on the journey. Ademilola has logged over 4,000 hours as a commercial Boeing 737 pilot since earning his pilot licence six years ago. The Chairman of Air Djibouti, Aboubaker Omar Hadi, says: “By supporting initiatives like Lola’s flight around the world, Air Djibouti hopes to inspire a new generation of pilots in Africa and help to pave the way for the aviation industry to thrive in the region. “The benefits will be felt within the region, as this will encourage more intra-African trade and sustainable economic development. “With the commencement of the Single African Air Transport Market set for June 2017, air travel in the continent is positioned to grow rapidly and become a key contributor to the region’s economic and social development.” Globally, the aviation industry represents a massive opportunity for African economies to play a larger role. It is estimated that 2017 alone will see approximately four billion airline passengers worldwide, as well as over 50 million tonnes of cargo being transported by air. Source: Http://TechPaded.Tk

Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo on Thursday March 30, said corruption directly fueled the activities of the Boko Haram sect in the North Eastern part of the country. Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Punch reports that Osinbajo said this in his remarks at the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development’s Anti-Corruption and Integrity Forum holding in Paris. He said corruption fueled terrorist insurgency in the North East, therefore leading to serious humanitarian disaster. Osinbajo said:“There is now hardly any credible opposition to the notion that corruption and Illicit financial flows constitute perhaps the gravest challenge to development. And this is especially true of developing countries. “Besides, we have seen in Nigeria, in recent years, how corruption directly fueled the terrorist insurgency in the North-East. And how in turn that has led to one of gravest humanitarian disasters in the world. “Also the adverse implications for education, healthcare, social services, infrastructure and indeed quality of life no longer require making a case. “Corruption and illicit financial flows are different. But they really must be twinned. This is because for practical purposes it is an eminently more sensible approach to treat most of the sources of illicit financial flows as corrupt activity, within a broader use of the term.” Chibok girls abducted by Boko Haram insurgents The Vice-President noted that it is also clear that most economies ravaged by corruption, usually-both as a cause and consequence-do have institutions that are too weak to fight corruption and illicit financial flows. He made a case for international collaboration which he said remained the smartest and most effective approach to apprehend and deter perpetrators, and ensure restitution of stolen assets. Osinbajo said in West Africa, efforts towards regional cooperation against graft was underway. He said the draft ECOWAS Common Investment Code of 2013 provides in Art. 29 (4) and (5) that member-states should conclude treaties to allow for exchange of information between the fiscal authorities of the various jurisdictions. In a dramatic turn of events, the head of the apex bank of the country has tendered his resignation letter due to undisclosed reasons. Governor of Ghana’s Central Bank, Abdul-Nashiru Issahaku has resigned. This was made known to journalists by anonymous source. According to sources within the central bank, the governor who officially started his four-year term around September last year tendered his resignation on Wednesday citing personal reasons. Although the governors of the central bank have been insulated against political risk through an amended Bank of Ghana Act which assures them the security of tenure, speculations have been rife immediately after the December election that the current government would like the governor to leave office so they could appoint a replacement. Issahaku was first appointed by former president John Mahama in April 2016 in an acting position when Henry Wampah tendered his resignation six months before the end of his tenure. Mahama was defeated at the polls by current president, Nana Akufo-Addo who won the election by 53 per cent. Sources within the central bank also named former head of the research department at the bank, Ernest Addison now with the African Development Bank as one of the front-runners to occupy the Bank of Ghana chair. The outgoing governor held his last Monetary Policy Committee press briefing on Monday, where he announced a 200 basis point reduction in the bank’s benchmark policy rate from 25.5 per cent to 23.5 per cent. Former President Goodluck Jonathan has denied having any certificate scandal as reported recently in the heat of the same challenge rocking the political career of Senator Dino Melaye. The Punch reports that Jonathan said his name was wrongfully mentioned among other leaders and politicians who have certificate issues. Jonathan says he does not have any certificate scandal NAIJ.comreports that in a statement issued in Abuja on Monday, March 27 by Jonathan’s media adviser, Mr Ikechukwu Eze, the former president dismissed the claim as lies. According to the statement, Jonathan had never been linked to any doubt, scandal or controversy concerning his academic qualifications. The statement which noted that the classmates of the former president in all the schools he attended are still alive, added:“We really don’t know where this is coming from, but we wish to remain unambiguous in our assertion that this is obvious falsehood, since the former president has never been linked to any doubt, scandal or controversy concerning his academic qualifications. “We are not aware of any probe, allegation or litigation relating to his very well known academic qualifications. “For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to restate that former President Jonathan’s educational records can easily be traced to St Michael’s Primary School, Oloibiri and Mater Dei High School, lmiringi where he obtained his first school leaving certificate and General Certificate of Education Ordinary Level respectively, as well as the University of Port Harcourt, where he received his Bachelor of Science, Master’s and Doctorate degrees. “Luckily, many of former President Jonathan’s classmates from primary school through the university are still alive and are traceable. “It is therefore obvious that there is no justification for this abstruse association, as there is nothing linking the former President to the story.” TechPaded.NetXid.Com

Authorities have decided to upgrade the infrastructural status of the Abuja airport runway in addition to the rehabilitation currently going on. The Federal Government will still carry out another round of upgrade works on the runway of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja for 18 weeks after the facility would have been reopened for operations on April 19. A top Presidency official who spoke on the condition of anonymity disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Sunday. The airport is currently shut to allow reconstruction work on its runway. The work which is in its third week is expected to last six weeks. Quoting from a report of the Federal Government Coordinating Committee overseeing the management of the airport repair, closure and relocation, the Presidency official said unlike the ongoing work on the runway, the 18-week upgrade would not necessitate closure of the airport. He said the upgrade would be done in the night, hence will not disrupt flight operations. “After the Abuja Airport reopens for operations on April 19, upgrade works on the runway will continue for another 18 weeks. “This second phase of upgrade works on the runway will be carried out at night, with no disruption to flight schedules,”he said. Senator Dino Melaye has explained why he wants the Senate to criminalize the practice of giving cultural and tribal marks to children in Nigeria He said such practice brings self-esteem on children who possessed them, and increases the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. He said this yesterday while defending, before the Senate, a private member bill titled: ‘A Bill for an Act to provide for the Prohibition of Facial Mutilation’, he personally sponsored. Melaye said the era where facial marks were needed for identification with certain affiliations were long gone, as the popularity and acceptance of the practice continued to wane. He said: “These tribal marks have become emblems of disfiguration and have hindered many situations of life. Some have developed low self-esteem, they are most times treated with scorn and ridicule. “The reactions of people who interact with them on interpersonal basis somehow dampen their spirit or lower their self-esteem. They are reduced in most cases to laughing stocks in the communities and called several horrible names. “Long before the awareness programmes on AIDS, many innocent people, mostly children, who were subjected to tribal marks laceration, had inadvertently been infected with the deadly HIV virus. Sharp instruments used by the locales to inscribe the tribal marks were not sterilized, thus exposing kids, even adults, to the risk of HIV/ AIDS,” Melaye argued Contributing to the debate, the Senate Whip, Senator Olusola Adeyeye (Osun Central) said the practice brings reproach to the African race, all around the world. “We must stop it, and we must ensure stiff penalties, not just for the parents but for the so-called local surgeons who administer the marks. African legislatures must stop it. All African countries must ban this practice in the name of tribal marks,” he said. Adeyeye displaying the mutilations on his arm, disclosed that he was a victim of the practice, when his grandmother forcefully took him to a local surgeon who made the cuts, while his father was away. “My father did not want any of us to have marks”, he said, while recalling the pains of being cut with a knife without any form of anaesthesia. The bill which contains the proposed actions that constitute the offence of facial mutilation, prosecution and punishment of offenders and the protection of victims under threat of facial mutilation and other related matters scaled through second reading on the floor of the Senate. The naira will trade at N415 to a dollar as the series of intervention by the Central Bank of Nigeria are sustained. The President, Association of Bureau De Change Operators of Nigeria, Alhaji Aminu Gwadabe, on Tuesday in Lagos said that the new Forex policy had eliminated frivolous demand for the dollar. According to him, frivolous demand for dollar has been responsible for the weakness of the naira. The ABCON chief said that CBN’s continued intervention at the Forex market would soon spell doom for speculators and currency hoarders. “Currency speculators and hoarders would suffer more losses as the CBN injects more dollars to the interbank market. “The sustained intervention by the CBN will technically take speculators out of business. “My expectation is that if both volumes and applicable exchange rates are reviewed for the BDC sub-sector, the naira would be trading at N415 to a dollar,’’ Gwadabe said. The ABCON chief said that the CBN had recorded a huge success because of its new policy, adding that the naira had continued to strengthen at the parallel market, exchanging at N435 to a dollar. He told said that granting of more access to the BDCs at the International Money Transfer Services Operators window would help to further strengthen the naira against the dollar. The CBN has injected over $1.5bn since February when it started its intervention at the interbank market. The apex bank said that its aim was to bring stability to the foreign exchange market and provide easy access of foreign currencies to businesses and individuals. The CBN had on Monday injected additional $180m into the market to meet bids for wholesale auction and requests for invisibles such as medicals, school fees and personal travel allowances. -NAN http://TechPaded.NetXid.Com
