Ranking of Obas in Yorubaland By Alake of Egbaland The ranking of Kings or Obas in Yorubaland has been a topic which has generated much controversy over the years. Moreso, the issue was once more raised as reactions continue to trail the snubbing of Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi by the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu. In what seem like an answer to the lingering question of who are the most powerful kings in Yorubaland, the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, revealed the top 5 paramount rulers in Yorubaland. 1. Ooni of Ife: The Ooni of Ife is the most powerful king in Yorubaland. According to Alake, the Oni is the first of the five principal Obas in Yorubaland just like the Sultan is the highest ruler in northern Nigeria. 2. Alaafin of Oyo: The Alaafin is the second in ranking of Obas in Yorubaland. The Oyo Dynasty dates back to the Old Oyo empire which recognises Alaafin as emperor. 3. Oba of Benin: Some say the Oba of Benin is the highest as he heads the Eweka dynasty of the great Benin Kingdom. It is also said that the Yoruba people descended from Benin hence, the title of Oba, used to mean king was first created by Oba Eweka 1, Benin's first Oba who ascended in 1180. 4. Alake of Egbaland 5. Awujale of Ijebuland http://www.247nigerianewsupdate.co/2017/04/nigeria-ranking-of-obas-in-yorubaland.html?m=1

A LETTER TO MY FELLOW NIGERIANS Going by the mantra of each political administration in Nigeria, it is no news that we are ruled by a set of wolves in sheep clothing, with exception to a very small fraction of our political leaders. Our version of democracy is fashioned in favour of the Political Elite. When they (our political leaders) are found guilty of an offence, they are only tried and never persecuted, but if it is a common man, regardless the gravity of the offence committed, they come out to show off their policy against indiscipline. As punishment for offences, they use cane on themselves but fires AK47 at the common man. Most of these Political Elite in Nigeria are cancer growing in our political system and the proper thing to do is to cut them off. However, our institutions which are suppose to ensure fairness and justice and see to it that every culprit is brought to book have been somehow dragged into the pool of corruption. Most of you know what I speak of. When it is election time, they encourage us to come out and vote, if we display lack of interest in voting, they display their promises and cash so that unsuspecting citizens whose mind has been beclouded by hunger can quickly jump at their offer. Let us reconsider what we are doing, for we are helping these men to forge the very chains that binds us when we receive their bribes. To every bribe-receiving Public Officer, please reconsider what you are doing, the harvest of your corruption may speak throughout all the generations after you. My words are not a judgement of my fellow citizens, they are a warning. Our religious institutions that are suppose to help strike a balance between dominance and patronage in our political affairs are somewhat silent, conveniently hiding behind a position of religious compromise. With exception to a few, they (our religious leaders) maintain their mega wealth and rank which man richly desires and tells us to keep praying and fasting day and night for change in our nation, yet many lives are being lost in this process. Truth seems far out of our reach. A preacher once said, 'prayer is not in the success equation, but understanding, planning and hard work.' But I say, understanding, planning, hard work and prayer is what brings success and desired change. According to a White Caucasian, our ignorance, greediness and selfishness is the root of all our challenges. We turned hypocritical face to this truth because we hate to admit our weaknesses and work on them. This is of course what our political leader takes advantage of. Billions of dollars disappears from our commonwealth and the identities of the looters remains anonymous. Our Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, lately, reports cases of financial fraud without identity of the culprits. We pay taxes, we build the roads, we supply the army, we employ the nation, still we remain silent like slaves in our own homes and watch our political leaders empty our coffers and erode our freedom. We are in a time in Nigeria when we are powerless to injustice but we must not fail to protest, we must speak out and stand against injustice before it arrives in our own courts, because conservatism never leads to change. In the midst of the current global economic holocaust, if our political leaders and public officers here in Nigeria can steal in billions of dollars from the federation purse and demand bribe from citizens openly, before they can perform their statutory obligations, without any fear of recompense, I am afraid we are heading for a dangerous time in Nigeria.
