Twenty Eight Awaiting trial inmates of Sagamu Prison, Ogun state Command on wednessday broke the wall of the prison and escaped.
The inmates achieved this by creating a hole in the prison wall, though with the help of an outsider that actually help in overpowering the staffs on duty, however three of them have returned to the prison claiming they were been threatening to join or be killed. The incident occur around 1 am on on the 2nd of January 2013.

The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Prisons Service, Zakari Ibrahim, confirmed the incident.
Ibrahim, who inspected the prison on Friday, said a probe panel had been set up and that anyone found culpable would be death with.

His words: “The essence of the visit is a follow-up to the seriousness we attach to the issue of security because security is one of our major mandates in the prisons and this administration has said it over and over again that we would not tolerate any breach of security, especially when it points at any form of negligence.
“We’ll bring in the police and other sister agencies responsible so that we prove that we’ll not tolerate any lack of commitment to job, especially the one that touches on security.
“Any staff found culpable would face the full wrath of the law, which will include dismissal and it could also include prosecution.........“But what you must just go with now is that any staff that is found culpable would be dealt with accordingly.

OGUN State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, has ordered the release of 20 prisoners serving various terms. Three others on death roll also have their sentence, commuted to life imprisonment.

The action was in exercise of the governor's powers of Prerogative of Mercy under Section 212 subsection (1) of the 1999 constitution and based on the recommendations of the Advisory Council on the Prerogative of Mercy.

The 20 prisoners are:

Opeoluwa Bankole,
Kehinde Onifade,
Saliu Raji,
Gabriel Michael Paul,
Lateef Opeoluwa,
Abubakar Muhammed,
Popoola Yekini,
Waheed Ogunwale,
Lukman Osikoya
Afolabi Odunaike.
Sunday Nnao,
Sylvester Oboki,
Monday Nbom,
Nurudeen Adeleke,
Abubakar Abah,
Sunday Isaac,
Kehinde Rafiu,
Sunkanmi Badejo,
Abiodun Adetayo and
Idris Adewuyi.

The three others whose death sentence was commuted to life imprisonment are:

Sunday Olatunji, convicted for murder,
Segun Ogunsanya (Alawaye) and Michael Ebedinwe, both of whom were convicted for armed robbery.

Nigerian singer Iyanya, who has been in the news lately over a not-too-clear triangular relationship blues/drama, involving him and Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson and Nigerian actress Tonto Dikeh, has shot down suggestions of a bad blood among all three characters.
The "Kukere" and "Ur Waist" singer has categorically denied reports that point to a not-too-pleasant relationship, adding that apart from the fact that he is "cool" with Yvonne and Tonto, he also respects both ladies, and that he "appreciate their hard work".

"I'm cool with Yvonne. Apart from the fact that I mentioned her name in my song, she is a wonderful person," he said in an interview with the Nigerian website Bella Naija.

"She is one of the nicest, coolest people that I know. The same with Tonto. They are two people I respect a lot. I appreciate their hard work and they are doing very well in their field.

"Yvonne is my hommie, we are cool people even till now as we speak. Tonto is my padi, we are cool. The media and people out there are just having fun".

Talking more about relationships, Iyanya says: "it's hard to find somebody that would be with you and actually take the pain, stand the rain. I feel like anyone I've tried to have a relationship with always says "no, I can't".

On the choice of woman he would ordinarily date, Iyanya says: "I like classy women. When I say classy, I don't mean you must have money, but at least know your self-worth and carry yourself well. I want a God fearing woman too because at the end of the day women have the deepest secrets. Women are fragile even when they act like they are bosses so if you mess up, there is a possibility that a woman will bring you down".

The top-selling Nigerian act has also ruled out dating a celebrity, insisting that "the thing about dating celebs is that it would most likely not last".

"I can date anybody but the thing about dating celebs is that it would most likely not last. The only way it may last is if they are not successful. But if they are both successful, when people see them together, they would jump on it. That alone has an effect on the relationship because they won't be free".

Iyanya's clarification on the issue should offer some relief to both Yvonne and Tonto, who have had to respond to rumours about their relationship with the singer, over the past few weeks.

A U.S. Army brigade will begin sending small teams into as many as 35 African nations early next year, part of an intensifying Pentagon effort to train countries to battle extremists and give the U.S. a ready and trained force to dispatch to Africa if crises requiring the U.S. military emerge.

The teams will be limited to training and equipping efforts, and will not be permitted to conduct military operations without specific, additional approvals from the secretary of defense.

The sharper focus on Africa by the U.S. comes against a backdrop of widespread insurgent violence across North Africa, and as the African Union and other nations discuss military intervention in northern Mali.

The terror threat from al-Qaida linked groups in Africa has been growing steadily, particularly with the rise of the extremist Islamist sect Boko Haram in Nigeria. Officials also believe that the Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, which killed the ambassador and three other Americans, may have been carried out by those who had ties to al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb.

Mr. Bankole Solomon, a former pastor of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has taken on the General Overseer (GO) of the church, Pastor E A Adeboye for allegedly turning the yearly Holy Ghost Congress into a political congress.
The former pastor said in a post that the yearly spiritual programme, which attracts millions of visitors to the Redemption camp venue of the congress located along the Lagos/Ibadan Expressway, is gradually becoming a place where politician come to deceive worshippers with 'fake' promises.

Bankole, who claimed to have resigned as a pastor of RCCG in 2010 due to some rights discrimination, stated in his post that it was wrong for President Jonathan to have stood on the 'once sacred altar' to speak to the congregation when he knew he was not being truthful with what he was promising Nigerians.

Bankole's full post reads

"I know this post will attract a sharp condemnation because I worship in RCCG and I was once a pastor before I resigned voluntarily because of rights violations in the name of religion. I resigned in December 2010 but I am still worshipping there as an ordinary member. So, whatever. I have here is without prejudice.

"Holy ghost congress of our great church is now a political congress where all shades of corrupt leaders will mount our altar to fool Nigerians on what they will do.

"Holy Ghost congress is now a supermarket where all kinds of people like charlatans and political opportunist come shopping turning God to father Christmas to give dem end of d year bonus.

"Jonathan was even there turning our once sacred altar to political podium talking deceitfully and indirectly campaigning for 2015. My question is this? On what ground was president Jonathan allowed to speak to people. Is he a pastor? Because the gathering is purely a spiritual gathering and event.

"I've been a pastor in Redeemed for the past 10 years and I've not got any opportunity to sit on dat altar not to talk of holding mic. If because Jonathan is a President and he is recognised, it means some are more equal than others.

"Immediately I left camp on Saturday morning, I looked at the camp very well because I know that would be the last time I willl set my foot to that Eagle Square called Redeemed camp."
