A video showing Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke reading from a prepared speech during an investment meeting at the UK House of Commons has gone viral, sparking a flurry of mixed reactions, with many Nigerians describing the moment as “embarrassing.”
In the now widely circulated clip, the Governor is seen reading his speech from a paper in a manner that many viewers have described as uncoordinated and lacking fluency.
The moment, which occurred during a meeting hosted by the UK Prime Minister’s Envoy on Trade and Investment, Rt. Hon. Florence Eshalomi MP, has since gone viral online with many criticizing the Governor.
On Facebook, Nigerians have not held back. “It is embarrassing. The lady beside the Governor couldn’t hold herself together. In her mind, she was probably thinking: what a disaster is this?” said @ Thompson Taiwo.
“Very irritating, Hon Teslim Igbalaye would have done better,” added @Jake Luis Olooto.
Another user, @Virtue Yusuff Olatunji Akeem, lamented, “This is extremely bad, iwe kika se wa di wahala.”
Meanwhile, @Freemandate Olatunji Abidoye questioned, “Who recorded the video? Who leaked it to the public? Where’s the Governor’s CPS?”
The Governor had used the occasion to urge the British government to strengthen subnational investment in Nigeria, identifying Osun as the “heartland of South Western Nigeria.”
He highlighted the state’s investment potential in sectors such as mining, agriculture, digital economy, and the creative industry, while also citing reforms aimed at improving the ease of doing business.
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Osun State Government and ESG Management Services UK Limited.
The agreement is expected to facilitate investments from UK-based companies into Osun’s key economic sectors.
