Nairaland / General / How To Optimize Youtube Channel And Rank Higher – Vbloggers by TemiAlabi: 10:08am On Sep 19, 2017
This thread will help you Optimize Youtube Channel and help you Rank Higher – The time people spend watching YouTube both on phones and on their TV has more than doubled year over year. Currently video content is on the rise across the world and a lot of people prefer videos to text because videos are more captivating to our sensory organs.

If you own a video blog and you currently don’t see yourself ranking well on YouTube then you need to optimize your youtube channel properly. YouTube drives over 2billion traffic a daily second to google so if your channe is well built in youtube seo then you will be sure to get enough traffic to increase your viewers and earnings as well

You may ask, It’s Worth It to Optimize my Youtube Channel?

Nice question indeed, but right on youtube you have no choice but to optimize if not you will continually be in the shadow of others. There’s an audience to be discovered there, and when you opimize for YouTube, your chances of being discovered increase. Below are the optimization tips.

1. Good And Captivating Video Content
This is the mother of all optimization that will help you to rank higher on youtube , if you have a great content that attracts and keep people watching for several minutes then you have scored high in google algorithmic calculations. People will also share your videos if they like it. The more your social shares for youtube channel increases the more algorithms score you high this will increase your views and this will help you rank better in youtube.

2. Title Optimization
When people search for videos, one of the first things that our eyes are drawn to is the title. That’s often what determines whether or not the viewer will click to watch your video, so the title should not only be compelling, but also, clear and concise and containing your keywords that the viewer is searching for..

Research has shown that videos with an exact keyword match in the title have a slight advantage over those that don’t. Finally, make sure to keep your title fairly short. I recommend limiting your tittle 60 characters to help keep it from getting cut off in pages results.

3. Attractive Description
The official description length is 1,000 but you are not here to write a story. Make your description straight to the point and say something catchy that will compel the reader to click on your video. If you do choose to write a longer description, keep in mind that YouTube only displays the first two or three lines of text — that amounts to about 100 characters. After that point, viewers have to click “show more” to see the full description. That’s why we suggest front-loading the description with the most important information, like CTAs or crucial links.

4. Tags
YouTube’s Director Dean suggests using tags to let viewers know what your video is about. But you’re not just informing your viewers — you’re also informing YouTube itself. Dean explains that the platform uses tags “to understand the content and context of your video.”

That way, YouTube figures out how to associate your video with similar videos, which can broaden your content’s reach. But choose your tags wisely. Don’t use an irrelevant tag because you think it’ll get you more views — in fact, Google might penalize you for that. And similar to your description, lead with the most important keywords, including a good mix of those that are common and more long-tail (as in, those that answer a question like “how do I?”).
5. Category

Once you upload a video, you can categorize it under “Advanced settings.” Choosing a category is another way to group your video with similar content on YouTube.

It might not be as simple as it looks. In fact, YouTube’s Director suggests that marketers go through a comprehensive process to determine which category each video belongs in. It’s helpful, the guide writes, “to think about what is working well for each category” you’re considering by answering questions like:

Who are the top creators within the category? What are they known for, and what do they do well?
Are there any patterns between the audiences of similar channels within a given category?
Do the videos within a similar category have share qualities like production value, length, or format?

6. Create Great Thumbnail
Another tip on optimizing your youtube channel and rank higher is to create a great video thumbnail is the main image viewers see when scrolling through a list of video results. Along with the video’s title, that thumbnail sends a signal to the viewer about the video’s content, so it can impact the number of clicks and views your video receives.

While you can always pick one of the thumbnail options auto-generated by YouTube, we highly recommend uploading a custom thumbnail. The Creator Academy reports that “90% of the best performing videos on YouTube have custom thumbnails,” recommending the use of images that are 1280×720 pixels — representing a 16:9 ratio — that are saved as 2MB or smaller .jpg, .gif, .bmp, or .png files. If you follow those parameters, it can help to ensure that your thumbnail appears with equally high quality across multiple viewing platforms.

It’s important to note that your YouTube account has to be verified in order to upload a custom thumbnail image. To do that, visit youtube.com/verify and follow the instructions listed there.

7. SRT Files (Subtitles & Closed Captions)
subtitles and closed captions can boost YouTube search optimization by highlighting important keywords.

In order to add subtitles or closed captions to your video, you’ll have to upload a supported text transcript or timed subtitles file. For the former, you can also directly enter transcript text for a video so that it auto-syncnue s with the video.

Adding subtitles follows a similar process, however, you can limit the amount of text you want displayed. For either, head to your video manager then click on “Videos” under “Video Manager.” Find the video you want to add subtitles or closed captioning to, and click the drop-down arrow next to the edit button. Then, choose “Subtitles/CC.” You can then select how you’d like to add subtitles or closed captioning.

Google has provided great instructions on how to do that In this thread. continue reading http://www.techepedia.com/how-to-optimize-youtube-channel-and-rank-higher-vbloggers/

Computers / Things To Consider When Buying A Laptop by TemiAlabi: 10:30am On Sep 17, 2017
This thread is to show you the things to consider when buying a laptop and guide you in buying the best laptop in the market. There are many laptop dealers in the market and most of them are just there to sell their goods. They don’t guide you in buying the best laptop in their store, some just display their products and the next thing is price bargain which should be the last thing. The next time you want to buy a new laptop these are the precious things to consider to get the best out of your money you have a fat or lean budget.
Key things to Consider When Buying a Laptop

Laptop Size: You wont like a big heavy laptop which will occupy a big portion of your travelling, school or office bag. Gone are the days when laptops weighed a tone and took up so much space. On-going advancements in the sphere of computer manufacturing have seen a lot of cutting edge laptop sizes. For students and busy executives, portability is a core requirement. The easier it is to fit your laptop PC into a small bag, the better. Therefore, a laptop with a screen size between 12.5 – 14 inches and weighing between 1 – 1.5kg fits the bill. When shopping for such a portable device, it is often best to go for a notebook. A notebook is a personal computer that foregoes some functionality to remain light-weight and small. Notebook computers are sleek, typically weigh less than five pounds and are small enough to fit easily into your briefcase or a back-pack. An Ultrabook also falls into this category as they are portable and light-weight.

Processor Speed.
I know you won’t like a snail laptop that takes minute’s before you load a webpage or complete a task. We all want a lightning speed laptop and that’s why checking the processor of the laptop you want to buy is important. Processor speed measures (in megahertz or gigahertz; MHz or GHz) the number of instructions per second the computer executes. Intel’s Core-based processors including Core i3, Corei5 and Core i7 are usually the best bet for computing power as these processors deliver top performance.

Random Access Memory (RAM):
This helps in optimal performance of the laptop. This is a form of computer data storage which stores frequently used programme instructions to increase the general speed of a system. Depending on the type of laptop you wish to buy, a RAM of between 2G – 4GB and upwards will be required to get your system working optimally. Memory speed refers to the amount of time that it takes the RAM to receive a request from the processor and then read or write data. Generally, the faster the RAM, the faster the processing speed of your laptop. In other words, with a faster RAM, it is easier for you to use the laptop for your multimedia or multi-tasking activities. RAM speed is measured in Megahertz (MHz), millions of cycles per second, so that it can be compared to your processor’s clock speed.

Battery: Another important thing to consider when buying a laptop is the battery, bearing in mind the peculiar power supply challenges in the country, you are better off investing in a laptop with a strong battery that can guarantee at least up to 10 hours of battery life on average use. For a notebook, a battery capacity of 10,000mAH/3.7V or higher is adequately sufficient to begin with, especially as both the total charging capacity and life of a laptop computer’s battery will diminish as you use your computer.

For a notebook, a battery capacity of 10,000mAH/3.7V or higher is adequately sufficient to begin with, especially as both the total charging capacity and life of a laptop computer’s battery will diminish as you use your computer.

Screen quality and Resolution: With the advance in graphics and HD videos you will surely need a laptop with good screen quality and high resolution. Also Considering the length of time the average user spends working on a laptop, screen quality is a factor worth taking into cognizance when buying a laptop. The harsh glare from grainy laptop screens may pre dispose users to side-effects as constant staring at the screen may result in redness, itching and blurring of the eyes, or headaches and migraines, in extreme cases. Touch-screen laptops, many of which are glossy, may also not be a good choice as these throw back a lot of reflections, thereby putting the eyes under considerable strain. Closely related to this, you must consider the resolution of the laptop before making the buying decision. If you fall into the class of heavy users who work on their laptop for upwards of eight hours in a day, it is more advisable to go for a High Definition (HD) screen with resolution of 1600 x 900 or higher.

Price: This is the last important thing to consider. The price of a laptop is often predicated on the features of the device, especially the ones listed above. As such, a laptop with a faster processor speed and RAM would likely cost more than a model with less speed. At times the brand of the laptop is sometimes a factor to consider, Macs, Hp and Dell often sell higher than other brands but however, increasing competition in the market and more attention to research and development of new products makes it possible these days to find moderately-priced devices boasting features that would naturally be found in more expensive models. Do not be afraid of going for other products that has the features listed above but be sure the brand has good user review.

Nairaland / General / DSTV Issues, Problems And How To Fix Them by TemiAlabi: 10:56pm On Sep 10, 2017
At times DSTV normally malfunctions due to some connection, technical, signal or hardware problems. Fixing these problems at times is no a rocket science, especially the minor problems that may arise. But at times you may need a Dstv Technician if you try fixing them to no avail. Below are the common issues that may arise with your Dstv and its solution.
DSTV ISSUES (PROBLEMS) AND POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS

SMART CARD PROBLEMS & COMMON ERROR CODES

Never ever remove the Smartcard from a DSTV Decoder that is still on. If Dstv asks you to remove your smartcard and wipe the surface make sure you switch off your Decorder before you do this. And if for any reason you have to remove the Smartcard from your Decoder make sure you turn it off as well.

Error E04 – Please insert Smartcard. Your smartcard may have been inserted incorrectly. Remove the Smartcard, wipe with a soft dry cloth and re-insert. If message re-appears, reboot. If problem persists then the decoder and/or the Smartcard might be damaged and should be tested.

Error E05 – Unknown Card. The incorrect Smartcard is inserted or the Smartcard might have been inserted incorrectly or has collected dust. Remove the Smartcard, ensure that it is free of dust and re-insert it with the chip facing downwards and the arrows facing the decoder. Reboot the decoder.

Error E06 – Smartcard Error. Remove the Smartcard, wipe with a soft dry cloth and re-insert. If message re-appears, reboot. If problem persists then the decoder and/or the Smartcard might be damaged and should be tested.

Error E07 – Checking Smartcard. The decoder is checking the Smartcard. If the message is still displayed after 30 seconds remove the Smartcard, wait for the error code and re-insert the Smartcard. If E07 reappears, reboot your decoder. If E07 reappears, the decoder/Smartcard might be damaged and should be tested.

Error E16 – Service is currently scrambled. Transmission might be temporarily suspended. Check that there are no outstanding payments on your account. The service needs to be reset from by MultiChoice. Call the Contact Centre

Error E107 – Decoder and Smartcard currently not paired. This message usually appears on new decoder. You should call the Contact Centre to confirm if the account has been created so it can be activated.

SCANNING PROBLEMS ( SIGNAL PROBLEMS)

Not Scanning. Here the decoder searches for signal on various frequencies without connecting to any of the bouquets. The problem is caused by a change in the dish (signal) position; this can be solved by a dish realignment or Cable disconnection between the decoder and the LNB or a bad LNB or In rare cases a faulty decoder can be tested and verified by connecting another dstv decoder to the same signal or the decoder to another verified signal..

Scanning for too long. In this situation The decoder takes too long to scan and after scanning may experience pixilation (picture cracks) or signal disconnection on some stations. This problem is caused by low signal strength to the decoder and can be rectified by dish realignment or in cases where a single LNB signal is shared to 2 decoders by disconnecting the other decoder.

Not Scanning the full no of Bouquets. Here the decoder connects to less than the usual no of bouquets it usually scans. This problem in most cases is usually a malfunctioning problem and can be rectified by doing a FACTORY RESET.

MALFUNCTIONING DECODER

In this scenario the decoder might be going off and coming back on intermittently, in some cases changing between SCAN and 1 on the face of the decoder.
A lot of these malfunctioning problems can be rectified by doing a FACTORY RESET on the decoder. Below is how to do a factory reset

PICTURE CRACKS

It normally occurs during rainfall or chronic thunderstorm but if it persists in clear sky conditions or light showers it is likely your dish has slightly shifted from the signal position and needs realignment. You can contact a dish installer to realign your dish into signal position.

REMOTE CONTROL

Recent DSTV remote controls are meant to also function for decoders used in the extra view facility. A common problem that occurs from irregular pressing of the remote control buttons is the red remote control light blinking on TV2 [exit] instead of TV1 Here the Remote Control Unit (RCU) will not function on the single view decoder. If this option (Ku Africa) doesnt display
Press MENU Scroll to ADVANCED OPTIONS and Press OK

Next Go to DISH INSTALLATION and Press OK Enter Pin Code 9949.

Then Go to SCAN ALL NETWORKS and Press OK

You can then Press TV to select the Ku Africa bouquet.

DSTV DECODER WONT TURN ON?

If your Dstv decoder wont turn on just know that the decoder might have got burnt by incessant power outages so make sure you connect your dstv to a stabilizer.

OR
You can also create an SMS with the format: RA [1st 10digit of smart card], example RA 4123456789. And send to 30333 or 08036393788 with your registered phone number (phone number registered with subscriber account) while your decoder is on.

DSTV MOBILE PHONE NUMBER REGISTRATION
To register your mobile phone number, send an email to: dstv@nigeria.multichoice.co.za or call the Customer Care line.
You can also check the due date of your subscription (i.e. when it expires). Create an SMS with the format: DD [1st 10 digit of smart card], example DD 4123456789. Send to 30333 or 08036393788.
Note: Calling the Customer Care line for activation is the most reliable means of activation.

If you experienced the issues in the above scenarios and you applied the solution attached to them without getting results please try no further before you cause more damage. Contact a Dstv Dish Technician.
