The Nigerian Army said 25 bodies of Boko Haram terrorists had been recovered after Troops of 119 Task Force Battalion stationed in Kangarwa Northern Bornu repelled an attack on Tuesday night. This is contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by acting Army Spokesman, Col. Sani Usman.

According to the statement, the attack which started at about 6:30pm was successfully repelled after about three hours of exchange of heavy gunfire that inflicted tremendous casualty on the terrorists.

It stated that one gallant soldier paid the supreme price, while 11 others were wounded in action and one of the unit’s Gun truck was badly damaged.
As of this morning, the troops counted 25 bodies of the Boko Haram terrorists and recovered 2 Rocket Propelled Grenades 7 (RPG 7) tubes, a 60mm Mortar tube, 2 Machine Guns, 12 AK-47 rifles and one Light Machine Gun.

“The body of the gallant soldier and those wounded in action are being evacuated, while the unit is carrying out mop-up operation,” it stated. Kangarwa had been a stronghold of the insurgents in northern Borno until it was recaptured by the Nigerian forces.

Kangarwa and its environs used to be the major rallying point for insurgents coming into Nigeria from Niger and Chad.

Nairaland / General / ASUU Declares Indefinite Strike Over Subsidy Removal by Temilayoborbor(m): 8:43pm On May 18, 2016
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), has embarked on an indefinite strike over the recent increment of fuel pump price from N86 to N145 per litre. The announcement was made by its National President, Professor Biodun. He further revealed that unless the government reverts the oil price to N86 per litre the strike continues.

The letter to that effect sent to members of the congress nationwide was read at the University of Ibadan Chapter, where the Chairman, Dr Deji Omole who decried the government’s callous show and plan to condemn Nigerians to a life of untold hardship and suffering.
Omole revealed that the the policy of subsidy removal was a criminal offence the administration of Mohammadu Buhari is using to empower the rich and slaughter the poor.

He condemned the government over the “delayed, partially paid and in most cases unpaid salaries for a number of months by state, federal and local governments, disguised retrenchment of workers, especially by State Governments, in the name of verification exercise and endless hunt for ghost workers and heavy taxation”.

Nairaland / General / Crazy Facts About Coca Cola! by Temilayoborbor(m): 1:29pm On Feb 05, 2016
Coca Cola is one of the most popular drinks around the world and there’s n doubt about the fact that the brand is iconic! But here are a few facts that you may not know about Coca Cola!
Coca Cola Contained Cocaine!
Yes, that’s right! At one point in time, Coca Cola did contain Cocaine! This is thanks to one of their early ingredients – Coca Leaves. When the juice was extracted from these leaves, a little cocaine was bound to come through too. And it did! Until 1929, when the entire substance itself, was removed from the drink.

A Share Worth What?

One share of Coca Cola from back in 1920 was worth $ 6.7 million in 2010.

– Had A Massive Impact On Santa Claus

We all know Santa Claus as the big jolly bearded guy with a red suit. But did you know that prior to 1950s, Santa’s suit was actually green and it became red thanks to the marketing campaigns of Coca Cola?!

– Originally For A Different Cause

Coca Cola was first started as a drink to cure hangovers and headaches, which is way different from the recreational drink that it is today!

– Only 2 Say No

Only 2 countries do not sell Coca Cola – Cuba and North Korea

– The First In The Race To Olympics

Coca Cola was the first commercial sponsor of the Olympic games in 1928 at Amsterdam.

– Fashion & Coca Cola Bottles Are Not Strangers

A number of notable fashion designers have designed limited edition bottles for the beverage brand. The latest one to do so was Karl Lagerfeld with other names on the list being Fendi, Missoni, Versache, Moschino and a few more.

– Remove The Stain With Coca Cola

It is said that one can remove and clean blood stains with Coca Cola. In fact, many people even say that it used to clean the roads after accidents in USA, but of course, we don’t really know if that bit is really true.

Sports / Nigerian Boxer Larry Ekundayo Pummels Ghanaian Lamptey Joseph by Temilayoborbor(m): 11:58am On Oct 31, 2015
Judgement day arrived and it was as fiery and fierce as had been anticipated with the Ghanaian warrior Joseph 'The Double Horror' Lamptey squaring off against the Nigerian titan Larry 'The Natural' Ekundayo. The hall filled with Nigerian supporters as the crowd waited to see their star, and they erupted into loud chants as he made his way into ring surrounded by his team - manager, publicist, trainer and other helpers.
The twelve rounds fought were exciting and rousing - the Ghanaian was a worthy adversary and gave as good as he got - but eventually, the stronger boxer won, and Larry lifted his belt as the new African Boxing Union's Welterweight Champion.
This win is both a triumph for Larry and a personal victory for Nigerians after Lamptey hurled the Nigerian flag to the floor at the weigh-in the previous day because he did not have a flag. This has therefore been a night of celebration for Nigerians as the two nations have been judged and Nigeria has been found victorious. At least he got whooped for throwing Nigeria's flag to the floor.

Nairaland / General / Man Begs Soldiers To Kill Son For Joining Boko Haram by Temilayoborbor(m): 10:25pm On Oct 26, 2015
One of the internally displaced persons at Pompomari camp in Damaturu, Yobe state capital, has appealed to security agents to “arrest and kill” his son for being a member of the Boko Haram sect. Speaking with reporters on Sunday, the man, who is from Turo Kira village in Yobe, said his son attempted to kill him when the sect attacked his community. “I have nothing to do with him; he should be arrested and killed just like he killed others,” he said.

Musa Jidawa, executive secretary of the Yobe State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), said the suspect was arrested after someone who identified him raised an alarm. “A member of his Turo Kura village identified the suspect and raised an alarm, saying he belongs to the sect and the suspect’s father, also an IDP at the camp, confirmed it, which led to his arrest,” Jidawa told journalists.

He disclosed that apart from the boy’s father, his mother, wife and child, were all taking refugee at the camp. Jidawa added that two other suspects, who disguised as visitors willing to see their relations, were also apprehended. He said the agency had reinforced security checks and means of identification to ensure that non-members do not gain access to the camp.
