Before we talk about the comparison, it will be helpful to be clear on what each system actually means because there's at least one common misconception worth addressing up front.

In this post, I will be breaking down the ten (10) silent profit-killers that show up on farms everywhere. 1. Improper Record Keeping on the Farm
Most farmers can't tell you how much they spend per bird. They only do an overhead estimation and this is exactly where the losses begin.
Record keeping isn't just about jotting down your expenses. The deeper purpose is tracking patterns: mortality rate, growth performance, feeding schedules, and medication history. When you have a proper farm record, you can detect a problem before it becomes a disaster.
Here's a practical example of why this is so important: when a vaccine fails and birds start dying, the first place to turn is the record book. Check the name of the vaccine. Identify what was used and avoid using it next time. Without records, you're guessing after every setback instead of learning from it.

2. Irregularity of Brooding Temperature
Many farmers lose chicks not because the chicks are weak, but because they got cold or overheated. The first 14 days of a chick's life are absolutely critical, and temperature is the variable that controls everything during that window.
The ideal temperature on day one is 33°C to 35°C, dropping gradually by 2 degrees every week. Get it wrong in either direction and you'll see it immediately in the birds' behavior. When it's too cold, chicks huddle together and then suffocate each other. When it's too hot, they scatter across the pen, lose their appetite, and become stressed. These aren't slow, subtle problems. They show up fast and they cost you birds you've already paid for.
