JAMB begins sales of 2017 direct entry, foreign candidates’ forms July 10

Jul 3, 2017 5:16 PM

The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) will begin the sale of the 2017 Direct Entry forms and registration of foreign candidates on July 10.

JAMB’s Head of Public Relations Fabian Benjamin made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bwari, FCT, on Monday.

Benjamin said the process of registration for the Direct Entry was spelt out in the just concluded Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

He said that candidates for the Direct Entry were expected to have `Advanced Level, Diploma or its equivalent, while foreign candidates must possess proof of residency abroad.

“For the foreign candidates to be eligible to write examination in a foreign centre, you must have stayed in the foreign country for at least a minimum of six months.

“You must have schooled there, you must have had your secondary education there; you must show evidence of having stayed there for period of six months.

“If you have stayed in Nigeria and just fly to London to register, you are not eligible; you must have schooled or had your secondary education outside the country.

“Not that you just finished Senior Secondary Certificate Examination in 2016, and you are rushing to the United Kingdom to go and write your examination,” Benjamin said.

He noted that measures had been put in place to ensure that candidates who wrote the previous examination and failed were not registered in foreign countries, unless they meet the guideline.

Benjamin explained that the Direct Entry would be sold at the same price previously pegged at N5,000, adding that the Board was yet to fix the price for application for foreign candidates.

“We are discussing on that, we are looking at selling the forms at $100 (N31,525.00) for Africans and $150 (N47,287.50) for non-Africans,” he said.

He said that the JAMB Direct Entry was mainly for people who already possessed a diploma certificate and wished to do a programme in the university.

JAMB Releases Results of 150,000 Candidates Who Sat For UTME Mock Examination & More

spillednews.com

May 4, 2017 9:02 PM

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board says it has released results of the mock Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations conducted on Saturday.

The Head, Information and Media of the board, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, told the News Agency of Nigeria in a telephone interview on Thursday in Lagos that 150,000 candidates registered for the mock examination nationwide.

The examination was initially scheduled to hold on April 8 but was postponed to April 29 due to some hitches.

Benjamin said the results of the mock examination had been uploaded to the board’s website.

“We have finished marking the scripts and uploaded the results to our website.

“We call on all candidates that participated in the examination to check on their results on our website.

“However, these results have nothing to do or add to the main examination scheduled to begin on May 13.

“So, we will not want those who did not participate in the mock to entertain any fear, because it will not take anything away from the main examination.

“We also want to inform all our stakeholders that registration for this 2017 UTME will officially close by 12.00 midnight of May 5.

“No fewer than 1.7 million candidates have so far registered for the examination, and by 12 midnight of May 5, JAMB website for registration will be closed,’’ he said.

Benjamin enjoined candidates who registered for the examination to get themselves ready and improve on their computer skills.

NAN reports that 633 centres will be used nationwide for the main UTME starting on May 13. (NAN)

*_JAMB To Deploy New Exam Questions In Each Session For 2017 UTME_*

_The Joint Admission Matriculation Board has made known to the public that it has fixed some certain loopholes that led to the postponement of the Mock Examination on 8th April,2017._

The JAMB spokesman, Dr Fabian Benjamin who spoke on recent developments admitted that there was actually a breach of some of the equipment which, if allowed to continue, would have compromised the integrity of the exercise.

Benjamin who faulted claims that the Board was not prepared for the examinations said the challenges being experienced are teething problems which have been addressed.

He said, “Thank God the mock examination is a voluntary exercise that was designed to test -run our system, to also identify some of those things that we have identified now. Some of the things we learnt from that postponement, we will not begin to discuss them in the open because they are very confidential, but suffice it to say that it opened the door for us to see what we should do to ensure that the forthcoming examination is one of the best ever conducted by this Board.

Although the Computer Based Test (CBT) has been in use by the Board in the last three years, Benjamin clarified that new innovations are designed every year to checkmate any act of security breach.

According to him, _“CBT as an exam mode is the same, whatever technology, whatever information or innovation we are bringing to bear on the exam, we are still going to deploy CBT. But the process is what we are talking about. Each year, we keep changing and improving on the processes._

First, in the area of questions, we have come up with a lot of innovations such that we have enough items to examine the candidates on.

Previously, we used to deploy once in a day, a place that has three sessions in a day once you deployed in the morning, it is used for the whole day, but this is no longer the case.

The Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede is insisting that we must deploy each time we are conducting examination, which means that if we have three sessions, we will deploy three times; this is a new innovation to ensure that even the person at the centre does not compromise the sanctity of the examination.

He appealed to Nigerians to give the Board a chance in its efforts at redefining the process while assuring that the results would come out better in the long run.

So far, Benjamin said about 1.3 million candidates have registered for the examination billed to hold between May 13 and 20.
