LETTER TO MY PARENTS

It is with a deep sense of humility that I write these few lines of mine, a piece of my heart and feelings carefully delivered to you dear Dad and Mum, I know this might sound strange and unexpected but please, kindly read on (I can sense the smirk on your face mum).

I can't fully say I have come of age but with the little time I have spent on earth, I know I have grown. Life has been full of varying experiences and occurrences... (the good, the bad and the ugly)... I can't deny that I didn't want more back then (like to be the son of the then Governor... Gov. Afakiriya) but looking back today, I realise daily that you provided all we ever needed for a good life and fulfilled living.

Am going to break this piece into sections like a typical essay (kindly assume the preceding part was the salutation and now we are delving into the main body... here we go!)

Firstly, to you my dear Dad: Growing up with you was an experience always worth retelling. You weren't always around but the times you spent with us was well enough to guide us through the times of your absence. You are a firm disciplinarian and an astute achiever. I still remember your favourite lesson: "Keep things better than you found them" and you favourite advise ' Be yourself (pronounced: be 'yaself')... you taught us the way to grow by showing us the way to go.

You were a Dad of little words and was respected and feared by all (I wouldn't hide the fact that the occasional breath seizing pinches helped cement that reputation). You were and still are a strong moralist that believes in the rule of law and due process no matter who was involved and this helped shape us into the men we are gradually turning into today. Tolerance and understanding were your prominent traits hence the peace and quiet you exuded. (Am going to take a break for now to revisit you later... hang in there Dad *winks*)

Secondly, to you my Luvly mum aka Iyaaaaa (the extra a's are deliberate) aka Ayo 2.0+ (I know you are laughing now). hmmm... how do I start?? Anybody remember the popular 'dettol' mum? well, that's my mum (not in person though but in personality). She was and still is the "if I don't take care of them, who will?" woman. Charming, caring, strong, bold, brave, God fearing, patient, humble... (I could go on and on but am gonna leave you to fill the rest)... and BEAUTIFUL. Yes! her smile melts me and her laugh... OMG!

Growing up under her constant watch was fun but not void of its tough moments. This woman was a strong disciplinarian. Her spank can heal fever instantly (and she still threatens me with it till date). She was my first lesson teacher and guide. Always there to support us, allowing us to learn the ropes of life, she encouraged our innate talents (thanks for all the pencils, colours and constant funds for my drawing tools... it nurtured the creative man in me). You brought us up in the way of the Lord, you were our family Pastor (with your constant playlist during morning devotion *laughs*) and for these am forever grateful because you helped give our lives purpose early, hence we avoided many falls faced by our peers.

You always said that you never wanted us to go through the things you went through growing up and to God's glory, I can boldly say that we had an awesome growing experience. We never lacked our needs and were always satisfied no matter the prevalent economic situations per time.

You were my first 'babe' (can you imagine we communicate at least once everyday since my University days) my counsellor and best friend (but Faith don dey share those positions now oh). Words will fail me to fully expatiate on your virtues, impacts and sacrifices in my life.

(Now to the conclusion) Dad and Mum; you two are the best. Your union is in all ways strange but surely destined. All factors seemed to be against you (Is it the religion or the tribe or family differences or personalities?) but you somehow were able to work around all these by God's grace to build a successful home and family. Love is Live in you two! It shows from the way you handle issues and cover each others back (I can vividly say that in all my years living with you, I never experienced a quarrel or fight). Yes, there were misunderstandings but you always settled it your way (never in front of the kids... it was magical I must say)

Am going to take a break at this point, for more tales about my parents, like how they met and background history (trust me, I know alot) kindly book an appointment with my secretary (smiles)

Just like they say in fairy tales; You will surely live happily ever after. Prov. 4:18 is my constant prayer for you Dad & Mum. We love you GREATLY! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY FROM THE RAJAN TRIO (KRIMS, IGIT AND MR. FILS) *Applause!!!*
