I like trying out new forums, but I have stopped using my real email address to register on them. Too many signups end with my inbox filling up with newsletters I never asked for, and once an address is out there, there is no taking it back.

A cleaner habit is to use a temporary address for the registration step. The one I use is a free temporary email service that needs no signup at all. You open the page, it gives you an address, and you can read the confirmation message right there. It is receive-only, which suits forum activation links well, since most forums only ever need to send you that one message.

When the account is confirmed, I keep using the forum normally and let the temporary address expire on its own. My real inbox stays quiet, and there is nothing to clean up later. The same approach works for beta lists and any other form that demands an email before it shows you anything.

If you join forums often, give it a try: https://tempmail.is
