*Says, Come May 29 Presidential Inauguration, the world will be agog The King of Fuji Music, Olasunkanmi Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has endorsed a live-streaming application developed by a Nigerian startup, Imprxx, created by Ayo Ileesemi. The music maestro, in a press briefing at his Mayegum Royal Resort in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, said Imprxx will open a lot of eyes to what most people probably believe will be too hard and impossible to get done. His words: “I volunteer myself, and I know that within a short period of time, a lot of people will follow suit. We have the grace of having a transition, and when we witness the benefit of it plus what we have done together with imprxx, we want to showcase the whole thing to the world, to let the world know you have the word next to you right in your sitting room, wherever you are in Australia, China or America, wherever you are. You can have the feeling like everything is happening next to you. That's the essence of it—to be able to beam the May 29 presidential inauguration in Abuja live, and let everybody know that all these things they've been keeping away from us from afar can be truly brought nearer to us. “Imprxx will define how we will receive live shows in music or live theatre. It makes us understand that we should be thankful for the innovations that are available to us now. When they used to say the world ‘global village,’ one might not quickly recognise what we're trying to talk about. I can be here in my office, passing music to the rest of the world, and everybody will enjoy it. You don't necessarily need to be at every venue before you get things done. “This innovative idea is to tell us that the world is moving. The world is not static; it's moving, and we should move. If you don't move, then you've lost it. I don't want to be one of the losers. I want to be in the moment and enjoy the benefits.” In appreciation of the partnership to be the brand ambassador for Imprxx, K1 enthused: “I give glory to God Almighty. I've always been a supporter of every good initiative that comes the way of entertainment so that every entertainer and the people will see the very best of what everybody expected. I am also grateful to Imprxx for considering me worthy of such a partnership. And it will help others take a cue from me to better their lives too. It is not going to be only me; before you know it, within the first month, I believe the whole world will be feeling good about the initiative we're talking about.” In his remarks, the soft-spoken creator of Imprxx, Mr Ayo Ileesemi, explained that Imprxx is a digital platform that's going to handle content from a very broad angle, and one of those angles is keeping a playlist of whatever content we have. “Be rest assured that K1’s content, the old schools, and the new ones —everything — will be accessible on Imprxx. In content creation, there's something they call reel on Facebook, and I think in Tik Tok, we are disrupting that by adding a broad thing to reel in Imprxx. So new things are coming to the field of the reel in Imprxx, and every content of K1. “Imprxx is going to serve all content creators. So once you create your content, the rest comes from live streaming. From wherever you live stream on Imprxx, it will automatically be on Imprxx. So it opens you up to anybody in the world to have that on Imprxx, which is also a platform where once you live stream from there, you have your content, and you can still bring old content, put it on a waitlist. And that content is what they used to do on the reel. Reel means that if I want to do a live video, I have a playlist of songs that I can put in an interface with the live video, and two of them come out together as live content. On generation of employment by Imprxx, which is going to interest so many people, Ayo noted: “What we are bringing to the entertainment industry is the creation of almost 500,000 jobs from the angle. Content creators should be ready. Videographers should be ready. Musicians should be ready; the Central Bank of Nigeria should be ready, Nigeria and the world should be ready for this disruption and new innovations that are going to create so many opportunities for the world.” Talking of live streaming, how possible will it be for K1 to interact with people who are not physically at an event? Ileseeni said: “It's possible because Imprxx is creating a dedicated interface in the space of live streaming. If he’s onstage doing his music, what we've seen before is people consuming what he's doing from any part of the world that has existed. But he has not created a chance for an engrossing entertainer to also interact with people in the digital space. Imprxx is bridging that space right now. “We are bringing a dedicated interface whereby no matter how engrossed he is on the stage he can still briskly interact with people in the space. What that means is that if you are having a birthday elsewhere in Nigeria and KI is here in Ijebu-Ode, he will be playing from the studio. We are interfacing you with him because there’s going to be a dedicated interface in your house and his studio. As you're in your house, you will interface with him, and he will sing for you, and everyone will see it. “Then you also have the chance to live-spray K1. Because, normally, these are the things we know as our own lifestyle in this part of the world. So we are turning that into another means of monetization; so that comes in as digital monetisation for entertainers. This is one of the unique factors of Imprxx to the world. Every spray is digital, which means we are helping the Central Bank of Nigeria solve the problem of abuse of the naira, because they've been looking for a solution. The Imprxx founder thanked K1 for his support for the innovation given his fatherly figure and inspiration, even as he promised that in a short while, “we are going to approach CBN in solving a problem. In a short while, we're also going to approach job creation that's going to come in the next two weeks, because we are planning collaborations with the National Institute of Film Technology in Abuja. “We're also partnering with Pefti, a leading brand in the production of LED screens. And in the next two weeks, we should be talking about creating 120 jobs for anchors; we call them Imprxx Anchors. These are the guys that will bring the dedicated interface to your house to interface you with K1. From June, people can book for K1, bringing affordability to his services. You can have the best of K1 for five minutes or 30 minutes in the comfort of your home.” Culled from http://www.gatmash.com

This was made known at the presentation of the letter of recognition as one of the major campaign groups from the All Progressive Congress to members of the group at its Campaign headquarters in Abuja recently. While presenting the letter, the Chairman of the P2P, Otunba Stephen Akinruli noted that Asiwaju has contributed more meaningfully to the development of Nigeria than any of the other candidate in the race. He further asserted that the emergence of Asiwaju will signal the rejuvenation of Nigeria, especially with the hindsight of his performance as the Governor of Lagos state. The organisation also stated that its strategy will primarily be aimed at young people and hitherto apathetic Nigerians to vote and vote Asiwaju Tinubu come 2023. The P2P added that religious sentiments as been bandied is the most pedestrian argument for Nigerians at this moment in her history, opining that what Nigeria deserve is a vastly experienced leadership with the cerebral capacity to handle the problems bedevilling the country at the moment. The Director General of the organisation who also doubles as the Secretary of the P2P initiative, Comrade Ismaeel Odulana added that the organisation will roll out it’s line up of activities aimed at achieving the desired result in the coming days. GROHE, ULDA Partnership: Train Plumbers, Unveils State-of-the-Art Facility By Theresa Moses Grohe, a leading German Sanitary fittings manufacturer in partnership with Universal Learn Direct Academia, (ULDA), a famous building and construction trades institute in expanding its GROHE Installer Vocational Training and Education (GIVE) Programme for young students have unveiled its newest State-of-the-Art training facility in Lagos. Gbola Oba, Visioner/Director Strategy, ULDA, on Thursday expressed his excitement as Grohe adopted the plumbing department at the launch of GIVE training facility that is expected to equip and train Nigerian youths in plumbing careers in the sanitary industry whilst upgrading the skills of already existing artisans in the field. According to him, "GROHE supports for the plumbing department in creating a State-of-the-Art training framework by installing modern training facilities and providing learning material and experienced technical trainers is worthy of being celebrated. A lot of money, professionalism, and time have gone into bringing today into reality. "But as the mother of ULDA, and knowing that the whole essence of ULDA is about skills and enterprise empowerment of an average Nigerian young star/ artisan; for us is another cause in celebration because we thought we are going to be left alone at it and now international brands are shaking hands with us. "I just want to use this opportunity to pass the most important message, not only for today but the most important message of ULDA to the Nigerian youth community. We respect the fact that as a Nigerian young star, you’re disillusioned because the opportunity are limited. "We respect the fact that as a Nigerian young stars want to "japa" (travel abroad), but even if you want to "japa," the place you want to "japa" to, you need some marketable skill so that you can quickly and easily harness the opportunity that those will give you, ULDA is a platform where we are ready to engage you in the process of equipping yourself to play as a glatico in the world" he said. Speaking to GATMASH NEWS, Christopher Penney, Leader, GIVE said the Program is aimed at equipping young talents with skills for the sanitary industry, and helping many young persons attain a better life. "The State-of-the-Art facility, established in partnership with ULDA, is expected to train youths on how to install, maintain all our products for a successful plumbing career in the sanitary industry. They will learn, have written and practical examinations to do, give them an internationally recognised certificates and from there, hopefully when fingers crossed, we would like to help them with job placement and work experience placement while upgrading the skills of already existing artisans in the field," he said. Yemi Oresanya, Head of Department Plumbing, ULDA could not hide his joy as he talked about Covid-19 and other challenges that served as delayed impediment to the realisation of this new milestone; which is first of its kind in Nigeria. "Eight years ago, I ventured into plumbing as a practicing builder, all nice and fine buildings have zero plumbing. That promoted me move to South Africa and acquired more training as a plumber. By virtue of the training, the visioner pulled us experts together and we started ULDA. "This will boast the gamut of unemployed youths that want to go into the plumbing trade. I want to tell anybody that cares to listen; plumbing is one of the most lucrative constitutional trades you can ever get. I can tell you for a fact that many graduates are missing out, in fact, whatever you studied, especially in science, just come and train as a plumber, you will earn more than what you can think because there’s a huge market, there’s no replacement. "The old ones are going and no one to replace them. If you know what you’re doing and confident, you will be doing superlative work with the presidency or other dignitaries. Imagine being a plumber in the President's residence, do you know what it means? One good thing about plumbing is that when you want to collect money, you collect in bulk". He also called on women to take up the trade to change the narrative saying "I want more females to come into this venture and I want to be the person that will produce the first internationally acclaimed female plumber in Nigeria. Let’s give females the chance; I want more ladies as we have in the carpentry and furniture industry. I want to see superlative ladies doing fantastically okay in plumbing". Universal Learn Direct Academia, ULDA, is a famous building and construction trades institute offering courses in construction, carpentry, blocks, bricks, concreting and finishes, domestic plumbing, domestic electrical, steel fixing and site supervision. Engr. Olawumi Gasper-President of the Board, Engr. Babatunde Faleye-Dean of School and Cofounder, Alhaji Lukman Lawal Garu, Lady Joy Shittu, Kehinde Ekisola, amongst other management team were also present at the event. I’m proud of the Nigerian Dream - Miss Pepeiye The name Leona Mazur might not ring a bell but, when you mention Miss Pepeiye - the famous original and first Miss Pepeiye of Papa Ajasco Family - you get the attention of people. The Nigerian-American currently based in the Neitherand with her family creatively played her role so well in the sitcom produced by Wale Adenuga’s Production in the early 2000s. One of the pioneers of the Nigerian Fashion Show Industry, Leona was a famous fashion runway model who featured in the Nigerian fashion shows both in Paris and Milan. In 2001, she won for Zizi Cardo, the Nigerian Fashion Show Designer of the Year Award. She also modelled for some prominent Nigerian designers like Mon Ami, Zizi Cardo, Frank Osodi, Modella, and Remi Lagos Of blessed memory, to mention a few. The financial analyst, a true military brat, was born and raised in Lagos to military parents Mr. Isaiah and Mrs. Juliana Ilile. Though out of Nigeria for the past 12 years, during which she went back to school to complete her bachelor’s degree. The proud mother of two boys bagged a degree in Bachelor of Science in Accounting with honors last December. She worked for Verizon briefly before moving to Amsterdam with her family. The Benue State born actress who is married to an American diplomat who enjoys learning new languages, currently speaks Portuguese and French. If she’s not practising on her guitar, she’s reading anything on quantum physics and human psychology as she loves reading and writing. Her most life-changing accomplishments are her kids, because they have been her source of strength, inspiration, and accountability. Despite being away from the showbiz industry, the industry never left her, thus her desire for a comeback to acting. At her down time, the motivational speaker is writing a memoir about her life’s journey and experiences gathered from her trips around the world. In an exclusive interview with Publisher, GATMASH NEWS, THERESA MOSES, the supermodel talks about her passion and purpose in giving back to her community by empowering young girls with practical knowledge that leads to achieving dreams, her podcast that she is working on about women empowerment, the Nigerian dream, fame, and more. Excerpt… Since it’s been 12 years she left Nigeria, when asked what she’s been up to, she said: “I’ve been around the world hahaha! I’ve been travelling, as you know, I got married to an American diplomat and I decided to sit somewhere and complete my education. There’s no way I can go back to school travelling from one country to the other. So I decided to go back to the United States, and there’s where I’ve been for the past 9 years completing my education and, of course, I have kids, two lovely boys, and they also go to school in the US. I’ve just been developing and growing as a person. Going back to school was something I wanted to do for a long time, because I did my National Diploma in Mass Communication with the focus in journalism in Nigeria. When I went back to the US I had to pick up something I could do without a lot of frustration, and that was learning business all over again. The standard there is different, although my Wolex Polytechnic credentials helped get me in. That’s what I’ve been doing and now I’m back, done with school and back to start my own thing, give back to the country that helped live that dream. I tell people to forget the American Dream, there's the Nigerian Dream. The Nigerian dream is having your hands tied behind your back and your eyes blindfolded and somebody asking you to produce something. We Nigerians are geniuses, because with the situation that we are faced, we still come out resilient and surviving; it’s amazing!” Speaking on her comeback to the entertainment industry which has changed since she left, Leona outlines her plan to cope as thus: “When I was modelling and acting, sometimes you work and don’t get paid; sometimes you go on set all day without food or drink and at the end of the day you are told ‘sorry, you can’t do your shoot today.’ Back then I and other models and actors that I know had the passion. It was something that we enjoyed doing, the money isn’t the goal, and the goal was to express our talent and creativity. What I am seeing now is more money-focused or fame-focused. Either way, Nigerians are doing pretty well. Our actors/actresses put us on the world map. Our Jollof Rice and Egusi soup and the music also put us on the world map. Nigerians are out there and the world knows who we are and they’re watching out for anything that we do. I have this knowledge coming from overseas. If I just say Nig…, they will just say ‘are you Nigerian.’ Even my accent sells me out and people have something to say about Nigeria. One person out of two knows Jollof Rice and they are not even Nigerians. I want to contribute to that. This is what I started and many other people that sacrificed, we worked, we paved this way. I remember when I was modelling also; your parents looked down on you. People look down on you, saying models are prostitutes, they carry all sorts of names; you barely could expose any part of your body without being tarnished in the newspapers or gossip magazines; but now it’s like nudity is nothing, it’s no big deal. Those are big changes, but there are a lot of positives and I am very happy about it”. When you were in the industry, there wasn’t much negativity or blackmail but now, if you must trend, it has to be on negativity. Do you buy into that school of thought? Miss Pepeiye has this to say: “Like they say in America, there’s no negative press, negative or positive, press is still press and you can monetise it. Are we ready for that in this culture is the big question? There’s something we would have to wait and see because we’ve started a trend and you can’t start a trend without reaping the repercussions of it. We have to wait and see what this repercussion will be. I don’t think we are prepared for that kind of culture, we are not designed for that kind of negative press, I don’t think so because you’re talking about a person going through some negative situation regardless of whom you are. In the public eye there’s something negative about you or people blackmailing you. That’s emotionally stressful. Now, you want to talk about mental health. How are we going to do this? How are we going to sort it out? I think that should be the discussion that we are all having at this time regardless of whether you’re a superstar or not. It’s something that would affect everybody, kids are watching, people are watching and coping and we don’t want them to copy something that will give you mental issues tomorrow. If you have mental issues, are there places where you can go get treatment, or is it something that’s stigmatised in the community? There’s a lot that goes with this whole negative press. In the US, there’s a team of PR that will tackle this and doctors that will even help the artist cope with all the negativity. We might be seeing them on television and say okay, this is what they do, let’s do it. They don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes. A lot goes on behind the scenes that people don’t understand”. Asked why she want to live the Nigerian dream instead of the American dream? The supermodel said: “The Nigerian dream, like I explained, is a Nigerian who despite all odds has made it, is continuing to survive without stealing, with real raw hard work. The telecommunication industry is nothing to talk about. They give you data, you talk now, and tomorrow the data is out. These are those little things that you don’t even think about overseas. It's natural, but here the case is different. I didn’t grow with the internet; I know what I went through. I came from a poor background and I know what I had to go through to make something for myself. That’s the Nigerian dream: Anyone who has made themselves independent despite all odds and surviving, living the basic life is the Nigerian dream. Nigerians are very, very smart because what the average Nigerian can withstand, the average American will pass out”. With her knowledge traveling round the world, Leona states what she’s going to give back to society that made her who she is today. “I am giving back to society my knowledge. Everything I’ve observed because whether we like it or not, this is our home, this is my home. This is what made me and the knowledge and the wisdom that I got from all these places; the things that I’ve been through in Nigeria helped me survive in the United States. And the knowledge I’ve picked up in the US can help me build Nigeria by helping one person at a time, sharing knowledge. There’s one person out there that has lost all hope and believes that there’s nothing for them anymore, but there’s still hope. The access to information is something that’s critical to growth and that access is something I can give back through writing, because I enjoyed writing. You know me; we went to the same school so it’s something that I never forgot. It didn’t leave me so I want to give back through my podcast, talk about issues and bring real solutions that somebody might really find useful and use it to better their lives. Also going back to acting, I’ve been speaking with my producer, talking to a couple of other people so I can get back into the field” she said. Speaking on how she intends to change the narratives in the entertainment industry, the mother of two said: “I think the best way to create change is to live by example. You can talk all you want, strategise all you want, but you just have to lead by example. So my brand is to uplift, educate and inform by entertainment, writing and also my podcast”. Back then you were a source of inspiration to so many; don’t you think your comeback poses a threat? Leona laughs and said: “I believe in abundance because everything we have, whether we like it or not, God gave it to us so you cannot know better than anyone; we are all equal. Yes, one person might be fortunate now, but it doesn’t mean the other person that’s shining your shoes or sweeping the street, if they keep that hope alive inside of them, will not make it. I’ve seen things, I’ve tasted fame, and I’m not really carried away by that. You know me even when I was acting and modeling. So, I’m still the same person. I’ve seen the difference and I just think we need more people that would come together, use their fame to build our community, build ourselves up, instead of a flashy lifestyle. There’s nothing wrong with a flashy lifestyle; it has to have some substance in it. You are famous, good, but what did you use your fame for? Are you developing your community, are you enlightening your community? In the US, you see people like Jay Z, Rihanna, and Oprah building up their community. We need to do that here, we need to start doing this. I know some other stars do this, I am not saying nobody is doing this but we need more, we need to encourage the youths, if you’re famous today good but tomorrow somebody else is going to become more famous than you. That’s the giving. When we understand this, I think we won’t start fighting each other because it’s pointless. Like the Ghanaian writer, Ayi Kwei Armah said, ‘The beautiful ones are not yet born’ and that’s the truth. You think you’re beautiful; tomorrow, somebody more beautiful is going to be born. That person that thinks she’s more beautiful, tomorrow, someone will be born. Life evolves and we need to evolve with it, I think that’s it”. Mrs. Mazur got married, left Nigeria, have kids, etc; still keep in touch with your friends, why? “I kept in touch with a lot of people. I’m open, I’m accessible. Linda Ikeji, Blessing Effiong, Seyi Brown my realest guy, all started off, travelled together. I travelled, had kids, family and had to focus on me and I realised that I needed to build myself as a person so that I can be able to give fully to the next person and live something for my kids also. Everything is not all about money or fame, the human connection is what I value the most” she said. As a creative person; Leona takes up art like music which according to her is the guitar. “Though I am still learning, not perfected it yet, but it’s something that I enjoyed. I love using my hands creatively; I have a travel guitar, not named her yet. I play the guitar in my free time. I like to be creative, like I said; if I am not doing anything I am either writing. I get inspiration from books and write them down. Trust me, there’s a Nigerian dream, if you are from Nigeria without anything and you made it to be a superstar, that’s the Nigerian dream. I don’t care what anybody says, because even as bad as it is we are fighters, warriors, we are bold. Who gives you that boldness? Na suffer”. Amazingly, Leona said marriage changed her positively. “I will say positively because I don’t like that word ‘negative.’ Even the negative that happens in one’s life, I feel it's God calling you to your power, essence, ability, independence. Being married and having kids has its challenges; but I’ve taken these challenges and turned them into positivity for myself and for some people around me too. This has helped me grow a lot. If I hadn’t experienced any of it I don’t know where I would have been. Everything that has happened in my life has helped me grow emotionally, physiologically and physically as a person” she said. On how she managed from mass communication to studying accounting, Leona laughs and said: “It's the opposite end of a spectrum. It was the hardest thing I ever did for my growth; but I told myself I will not give up. We Nigerians don’t give up. This is what I meant by the resilience of Nigerians. I didn’t give up even though I had kids. I had to do what I had to do, deprive myself of so many things – social media, etc. I had to be disciplined because in the US, nobody’s going to tell you to do this or that. They believe that you’re an adult and you know what to do and that was what I did, and I focused. I have a vision to graduate and I graduated with honours and my kids saw me do this. They are proud of me, I know that. And they were my motivator to go back and get my degree so that I can also motivate them; and I can motivate somebody out there”. When asked which of her friends has stood with you through thick and thin, motivating you a lot, she said Seyi Brown. “Seyi Brown is one person that consistently motivates me. I have other friends too; but he’s the one that has been calling back and forth, he’s been actively pushing me. I appreciate that about him. He’s one person that’s authentically genuine that I know”. Leona’s advice to the Nigerian youth is simply, have a skill. “God gave each and every one of us a skill but we get distracted a lot by the things we see – problems here, problems there. Have a skill and have faith in God. Your time will surely come, but you must have a skill and God” he added. _Theresa Moses is a creative journalist, writer, P.R & Media Consultants, Managing Director, Gatmash Media_ Contact: +234(0)8072022024, Email: evertess2010@gmail.com Website: http://www.gatmash.com Follow via socials media: _Twitter_ @evertess2015 _Facebook_@Theresa Moses _Instagram_@officialtheresamoses _YouTube_ @Gatmash TV

‘Don't be errand boys to politicians’ – Governorship Aspirant, Dr. Kuraun … Calls on youths to be actively involved in politics, have a say in leadership, policy making and programmes. All Progressive Congress (APC), governorship aspirant in Benue state, Dr. Jeffery Kuraun has frowned at the eagerness of the youths to become errand boys to established politicians especially where the intentions of the political mentors are to impoverish and render them perpetually incapacitated to effectively lead. Dr. Kuraun stated this at the maiden edition of Benue APC Youth Summit tagged “Youths, Politics and Nation Building” organized by Benue APC Youth Council in Makurdi, Benue state on Sunday that “in order to move forward in a very sensitive and volatile vacation like politics, we need to unlearn certain seemingly atrophied responses and reactions, which are numerous and can easily be observed by any discerning fellow. The eagerness to become errand boys to established politicians should be frowned at, especially where the intentions of the political mentors are to impoverish their youthful mentees and render them perpetually incapacitated to effectively lead”. Kuraun, who was represented by Sam Kange, expressed his feelings in the midst of youths of this generation interested in politics and nation building because over the years, “we have unwittingly and technically disenfranchised ourselves from fully participating in the progress of our dear nation and state” he said. According to the Governorship Aspirant, it is important to state that no nation in the world has ever experienced development without the adroit and strategic participation of the youth, and ours must not be different. The great leaders of the world in ancient and modern times have always deployed their youthful energies and fresh ideas to move their countries forward. In order to make a difference for our great nation, Nigeria and achieve success, Kuraun called on the youths to act now and must do the following: “Identify with a political party with proven potentials for change like our great party, the APC. Become actively involved because that is the only way you can have a say in what would happen in terms of leadership and policy making and programmes. Generate enough interest in your party's activities and ensure that it's the number one youth friendly party around. This would make the youths in other parties migrate to your party, which should become the melting point for youths progressively wired for the progress and development of our nation” he said. Dr. Kuraun Jeffery urged the youths to be vigilant and resolute in blocking any electoral malpractice that could rear its ugly head in a bid to thwart the genuine efforts of others. “I am tempted to dwell on the role of youths in a free and fair election but time will not permit me. The facts, however, remain that where rigging is rife and easily achievable; it is due to the weakness or compromise of the youths. In this instance, I urge you to be vigilant and resolute in blocking any electoral malpractice that could rear its ugly head in a bid to thwart the genuine efforts of others. As I glide away from this engaging topic, though shortened for our general convenience, I would like to leave you with this parting shot; never leave for tomorrow what you can do today as a youth, for tomorrow, in reality (based on our local experiences) belongs to the elderly. The youth must act now and act fast” he added. TORDUE SALEM: NAOSNP Frowns at Speaker Gbajabiamila's Silence The National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP) has frowned at the looming silence of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila's silence over the sudden disappearance of Vanguard Newspaper reporter attached to the House of Representatives, Tordue Salem. Speaking through a statement signed by the Association's Public Relations Officer, Mr. Eric Elezuo, the National President, Mr. Samson Oki, said the Speaker's silence and inability to issue a statement, many days after the journalist was declared missing, is disheartening and totally unacceptable. He further also berated other security agencies for the lukewarm manner in which the disappearance of the NASS reporter is being handled. The statement also commended the FCT Police, which has issued a statement on the matter, saying however, that the statement should be matched with action as every minute counts. With the deepest of regrets, we the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP), a reputable body of security news publishers, frown at the looming silence over the disappearance of Vanguard reporter, covering the House of Representatives in the National Assembly, Mr. Tordue Salem. The reporter, according to reports, was last seen in the evening of Wednesday, October 13, 2021 around the Total Filling Station, opposite the Police Headquarters, in Abuja. Many days after his disappearance, no one seems to have taken his case serious. Not even the Rt. Hon Femi Gbajabiamila-led House of Representatives or major security outfits has deemed it fit to release a statement on the issue. It is imperative to note that the father of one unceremoniously disappeared from a location close to a police facility, an environment termed secure as well as carry out his daily duties in the National Assembly, also classified as secure. It is therefore a shock that calamity should happen to him, and at the place it happened. We hereby call on the IGP Baba Usman-led Nigerian Police, especially the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Babaji Sunday, to as a matter of urgency to get cracking and bring the young man back home safe and sound. We understand from a statement of October, 17, 2021, that the FCT Police noted their commitment to finding his whereabouts, but events seem to be dragging considering that every minute, every second is crucial. We are also calling on the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon Gbajabiamila, in whose jurisdiction the missing journalist functions, to get involved, and at least issue a statement. The deadly silence being maintained is suggesting something else. NAOSNP therefore call on all security agencies, relevant bodies and the general public to get involved to see that Mr. Salem does not come to any harm, but returned to his family, colleagues and loved ones in one piece. INTERNATIONAL DAY OF THE GIRL CHILD: Embrace Digitalization, Dr Kuraun admonishes girl child ….warns against being distracted by destructive information By Theresa Moses A Governorship aspirant in Benue State, Dr. Jeffrey Kuraun has called on the girl child living in an era where they have to fight for a position among the male folks, to try and advance their knowledge in areas that would make them stand out in their academics and careers in future. He spoke on a one-day Conference and Advocacy Summit organized by the African Youth Union Commission in partnership with AWLA, WEADI, Nigeria Police, NOA, Women Affairs and other organizations to mark the International Day of the Girl Child on Monday in Abuja Speaking on the need to encourage the girl child to embrace digitalization, Dr. Kuraun said "I am here in so many capacities. I am first and foremost a father, not just a father but the father of a girl child, whose present and future means a lot to me. "Therefore, it is predictable that whatever I am going to tell you now is not different from what I would tell my daughter given the same situation. "I am also here in my capacity as someone who understands the importance of digitalisation because I have been exposed to fora a long time now. "If there is anytime you need to understand and make use of digitalisation, it is now. As girls growing up in a fast changing world, you need to gather information from all over the world and appropriately apply them in your own environment or be left behind where you do the contrary”. According to Kuraun, "Digitalisation is the embracing of technology that would enable you to solve problems easily, using devices like the personal computer, laptops, palm tops, tablets, android phones and iPhones. "It doesn't stop there; with these devices, connecting them to the internet, which is more like one very big and centralized computer, generating information from every field of life, which you are expected to apply in your daily activities, is the icing on the cake! Now, the next question should be, what type of information are you expected to look out for as you embrace digtalization? As girls living in an era where you have to fight for a position among the male folks, you should try as much as possible to advance your knowledge in areas that would make you stand out in your academics and careers in future. Getting connected, he noted that used to a global information bank like the internet should give you an edge over others, and thereby giving no room for any form of intimidation and clogging of spaces meant for the girl child now and in future” he said. However, the governorship aspirant, for Benue 2023 warnef the girl child “not to get distracted by other types of information they are exposed to, which are destructive in nature. "You should ensure that your devices are censored by technicians so you don't get connected to sites that are designed to destroy you instead of advancing your course 1 cannot do it by themselves”. Highlighting the benefits one can get from digitalisation by beginning early to appreciate and use it, Kuraun explained further that "I am talking from experience, though not as a female now. As soon as the World Wide Web (www) became available in Nigeria in 1996 with full internet access by 1998, I had the privilege of exposing myself to digitalisation. Without digitalisation, Dr. Kuraun reiterated "you could remain backward and stagnant while your contemporaries in other climes are moving forward and enjoying the benefits of digitalization”. In the final analysis, he encouraged the girl child to embrace digitalisation and “see herself becoming the best you can ever imagine to be in your generation. The International Day of the Girl child is a day to promote girl’s empowerment and fulfillment of their human rights while at the same time, highlighting the challenges that girls all over the world face. This year theme: "DIGITAL GENERATION, OUR GENERATION" has become important for girls to speak up for themselves. On insecurity in Nigeria, she said: "I am extremely saddened by what is actually going on in Nigeria right now- insurgency, banditry, kidnapping, and killings of all sorts. I hope that our bosses are working tirelessly to find a lasting solution. We need to come together as one Nigeria to figure out how to put a stop to all these negative issues going on”. However, as the Chairman, she called on her colleagues especially the Vice Chairmen to know that there’s no 99% loyalty, it has to be 101%. Therefore, we are calling on you to cooperate with security agencies in ensuring that our communities are well secured. I encourage you to work in harmony with your Chairmen, because the beauty of democracy is when the Vice and the corporate leaders unite and complement one another. As men and women of peace, knowledge, we acknowledge the fact that it’s not easy to be a politician at all levels as the people know you, your houses, cars, where you were before and who you are now. We admonish you, if the people come to see you for school fees for their children, don’t feel bad; you are doing a much more important job. "Let’s use our resources for the glory of the people and the glory of God. Let this association draw-up plans for our offices. It’s that plan that would improve the lives of our people. "People are suffering and they are losing faith in democracy, we must wake up to our responsibilities to our people. They want a good life, water, good roads, amenities, good schools as well, these are not too much and I believe it’s what we can do and provide. That’s why we have always been on your side as the third tier of government". By Kunle Akogun The recent reappointments of Professors Is’haq Oloyede and Abubakar Rasheed as Registrar/Chief Executive of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), respectively, did not come as a surprise to many keen watchers of the two crucial parastatals in the nation’s education sector in the last five years. If anything, the reappointments of the duo have been seen by many people as well-deserved reward for hard work, dexterity and superlative efficiency in the management of human, material and fiscal resources, attributes that have substantially improved the fortunes and ratings of their two organizations since they were first appointed in 2016. While the duo has severally contributed to the elevation of the quality of education in the country, it is heartwarming that their efforts have been frequently recognised and serially rewarded. Only recently, Prof. Rasheed, who was a former Vice-Chancellor of Bayero University, Kano, was ranked as the best Executive Secretary in the history of NUC by a global public service performance rating agency, Also, Prof. Oloyede, a former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, is nationally renowned to be the most dynamic chief executive of JAMB since its inception. For Prof. Oloyede in particular, there is no doubt that since his appointment as the JAMB Registrar five years ago, he has remained one of the most visible poster boys of President Muhammadu Buhari’s war against corruption. The reason is simple: The Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence has so sanitised the operations of the tertiary institutions’ admission body in five years that it seems that the 44-years old Board had never been in any tangible operational existence before 2016! For this singular reason, his reappointment for another term of five years, announced on Friday, 20th August, did not really come as a surprise to many watchers of the great revolution going on in JAMB since August 1, 2016. Indeed, when his first tenure ended on July 31st, 2021, not a few discerning Nigerians openly canvassed his reappointment into the same office, if only to allow him consolidate on the unprecedented socio-economic revolution he initiated and sustained not only in JAMB but in any Nigerian public institution. For, which sane coach changes a winning team? It is a thing of personal joy for those of us who know this erudite scholar intimately that Prof. Oloyede did not disappoint his teeming admirers since his appointment. Rather, he shamed the vociferous opposition to his well-merited appointment. Not only did he institute an enhanced welfare scheme for JAMB staff that greatly boosted their morale, Prof. Oloyede’s messianic first tenure substantially restored the sanctity of the Board’s main mandate: the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). And, as evident in all the five admission exercises he superintended, JAMB’s technology considerably improved, with high level of transparency and advanced networking. The scrapping of them traditional scratch card system for checking results is also another positive rebellion by this audacious JAMB helmsman. And the drastic reduction in the application fees is a serious relief to sundry admission seekers and their parents and guardians. But by far the most remarkable feat by any non-revenue yielding MDA in the country is the consistent remittance by Prof. Oloyede’s JAMB of whopping sums of money in billions of naira to the Federal Government coffers in each of the last five years. This is indeed praise-worthy, especially in a country where even some MDAs that were specifically and originally established to collect revenue for the government often turn round to ask the same government for extra-budgetary bail-outs to supplement their overheads! By this feat, Prof. Oloyede merely lived up to his well-known credentials of administrative acumen, financial discipline and legendary transparency in public service. An erudite Professor of Islamic Jurisprudence and the first ever Unilorin graduate to make a first class degree in the institution, Oloyede became a household name during his tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, having largely succeeded in turning the second generation University into a world class institution. This, he achieved by dint of hard work, resilience, consistency, tenacity of purpose and unparalleled team spirit. Indeed, Prof. Oloyede’s trajectory has been a study in service excellence, administrative acumen, religious commitment to the achievement of set goals, and unapologetic insistence on fairness for all. This much has been duly acknowledged by dispassionate watchers of his profile since he emerged the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin in 2007, especially with his sterling track records of achievements. His reappointment is, therefore, a very commendable masterstroke by the President, as the good works he did in his first term need to be consolidated upon in order to avoid the incidence of the well-known Nigerian syndrome of policy summersault and programme discontinuity that often characterize the advent of any new administration in this clime. *Kunle Akogun is the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Nigeria*

For, which sane captain changes a winning team? In one of such altruistic advocacies, a former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola, said that Prof. Oloyede’s first term in office has “been marked by unprecedented success”, having elevated the quality of university education in Nigeria by ensuring improved quality of candidates for admission into the university system. Prof. Okebukola added that with 82 innovations in JAMB, Prof. Oloyede should be allowed to consolidate the gains of the last five years and see to the completion of his ongoing programmes and projects. Oloyede’s messianic tenure substantially restored the sanctity of the Board’s main mandate: the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME). This much has been duly acknowledged by dispassionate watchers of his profile since he emerged the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin in 2007, especially with his sterling track records of achievements. It’s no surprise, therefore, that many well-meaning Nigerians continue to harp on the need for President Muhammadu Buhari to renew the appointment of this modern Midas to consolidate the good job he has been doing in JAMB in the past five years. After all, he is statutorily entitled to two terms of five years each, subject to the wish of the President. At a point, however, there were reports that Prof. Oloyede appeared not to be too keen on doing a second term, as he was said to have insisted that he had made his mark and would like to yield the ground for other persons to be given the opportunity to serve the nation at the JAMB level. The veracity of this report could be gleaned from the swiftness with which he handed over the Registrar’s baton, without any prompting whatsoever from any quarters, to the available most senior Director at the nick of the expiration of his FIRST term! The common sit-tight scheming among Nigerian public officials does not seem to hold any attraction for him! His reappointment is, therefore, a very commendable masterstroke by the President. For, Nigeria still needs the services of this highly cerebral and effective public officer for another five years at JAMB to personally nurse the several ongoing innovations, which he initiated in the organisation to irrevocable and unabortable fruition. For instance, such initiatives as the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS) for automation of admission process; the institution of Equal Opportunity Group for the conduct of the Universal Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) for Blind Candidates; the expansion of the capacities of CBT centres for standardization purposes; the introduction of E-Ticketing (for Complaints; the introduction of the Integrated Brochure and Syllabus System (IBASS) for prompt delivery of admissions requirements; the use of Biometric Authentication to confirm validity of registration, the introduction of E-slip printing; the introduction of management dashboard to monitor registration and admission exercise real time; the use of CCTV cameras in all CBT centres to monitor the examination and registration process real time; and exemplary funds management; as well as prudent and judicious use of JAMB’s financial resources, all need to be consolidated upon in order to avoid the incidence of the well-known Nigerian syndrome of policy summersault and programme discontinuity that often characterize the advent of any new administration in this clime. *Kunle Akogun is the Director of Corporate Affairs, University of Ilorin, Nigeria* 57 Likes 7 Shares

By Theresa Moses I woke up to a call on a Tuesday morning that schools, markets, businesses are shut down in observance of an age-long cultural festival, involving rituals. I became curious as to why a traditional event will cripple community activities and livelihood of people in this 21st century. Against the forgoing backdrop, I began a journey to Orudu-Olokan village in Oshere, Matogun, Ifo Local Government Area of Ogun State for a first-hand information on why pupils can’t go to school and business not allowed to open for the sake of a ritual. The road is an eyesore, indeed, Ogun State is known for its dilapidated, muddy and flooded roads. This is made worse by poor and inadequate drainage, which further worsens the dilemma of residents and motorists in Matogun and Lambe areas particularly during the rainy season, when the roads get submerged in flood-water, compelling residents to remove their foot-wears as they wade through the murky waters on the flooded roads. The health risk can only be imagined. I got to Matogun and took a bike to Oshere. The smart motorbike operator dropped me way off my destination, perhaps for his own safety, and I had to walk the distance till I got to a local food canteen (Buka), where I engaged the woman in a chat about my visit. She told me “it’s not here but in Orudu.” As she said I can’t trek to the place, she called the bike operator back (obviously, she knows him) and told him that he should come back and pick me. I asked her why I can’t go to the community; she said visitors, strangers and women are not allowed to enter the community till after 2:00 pm when they would have finished the ritual. About hour later, the bike man returned and said I should have told him where I was headed. He asked the intention of my visit; I told him and he put a call through to someone who said we shouldn’t go there till after an hour. He left and left to continue his daily hustle, but promised to come take me there. So I waited and continued my chat with the food vendor to know more about the festival and its importance. She said the Yoruba don’t joke with their culture and traditional practices I irrespective of religious affiliations: whether Christians, Muslims or pagans. She further said that they adhere to the warnings of the elders with regards to the practice of the tradition, and warned me not to engage on such a risky project as it’s better for men. I appreciated her hospitality and how she opened my eyes more to the way of life of the Orudu-Oshere community. The bike man came as promised, and said we should go as he has spoken to the secretary to the Baale of the community. Navigating his way amid potholes and mud-littered decrepit road on the way to Oshere areas through Orodu, I got so scared of falling off the bike. As we passed through the deplorable, un-tarred roads, I observed that potholes caused by excavating of the roads had become the residue to rain drops, making the roads an eyesore and impassable for motorists. I finally got to my destination, the inscription - Baale of Orodu Oyekan land, High Chief Alli Moruf Mofolorunsho Akanbi Abul-Wahad Oyekan – was boldly written on the wall of the house. The bike man went to speak to someone while I waited; after about 15 minutes, the man he was speaking with walked up to where I was sitting and introduced himself as Mr. Dapo. He asked of my identification card which I showed him and he said the Baale is so tired (I saw him sitting and sleeping on a chair under a canopy). He took me to the canopy where the Baale and his chiefs were seated, after the completion of the traditional rites. Chief Odutan Ogunyemi spoke, since the Baale was sleeping and couldn’t attend to me. I asked the essence of the traditional rites and he said: “The ritual brings many good things to the community. This community was predominantly farmers, if they plant crops if rain doesn’t fall the crops will be bad; but whenever the ritual is performed annually rain falls, which symbolises that the gods has answered prayer which you experience today. The rain brings forth good things, fruitfulness, productivity, etc.” On why businesses, including schools, were shut down, Ogunyemi said: “We have a stream where people are fetching water; there is a portion of it that we practice our culture. We informed (the) Community Development Association (CDA) chairman that people should not come to the stream for some hours today, till we are done with the prayer. So when we are done people can continue their normal activities.” After this, he refused to talk further as they were all tired from the preparation of the event and, besides, it’s not a one-day event; it’s a week-long ceremony. The Ishese festival and rest of the traditional rites would be done at the palace, which won’t affect businesses or movement of people or activities. I appreciated them for accepting to answer my questions and explaining the essence of the festival. My concern now is: If you so much cherish your tradition/culture, why allow foreigners to come into your community, buy lands, build houses, businesses like stores, schools and deprive them of operation at their own expense on days you choose to observe your traditional rites? I respect tradition a lot but using it an excuse to promote traditional fetish practices and disrupt economic and social activities in urban areas without government intervention is worrisome.
