What's the world turning into ? or better still, what's Nigeria turning into ? If he's married with kids, his wife and children are probably still waiting for him to come back home and might be wondering what the holdup is if they haven't already heard the news. It's not enough that the Fulani herdsman and unknown hoodlums are terrorising our highways, now we also have to be weary of the men in uniforms with the statutory tasks of ensuring safety on our highways. I got delayed along Umuukka Junction on a drive from Aba headed to Enugu around 5 ish for almost an hour today. There was a blockage halting movement to and fro; I was shocked when I was told why. Apparently, a road safety officer had stabbed a bus driver to death with a dagger because he refused to give him N100. I couldn't believe it until I saw for myself the lifeless body of the bus driver laying stone dead on a slab. Just because of N100. Who did this to us? Worst still, is that everyone went about their businesses as though nothing had happened. Welcome to Nigeria, a country with zero value for human lives. I did weep. I couldn't get myself to capture his face. May his soul rest in peace.

Well, I don’t support the Feds and the kind of treatment they are handing out IPOB NK, but mehn, all these sits at home is starting to disrupt the ordinary life of a taxi driver like me and it’s beginning to get on my nerves. I just want to vent. Imagine o, I’ve driven to all my favourite spots where they make better pepper soup fish to break my fast for the day o, no show! First spot I went to in Obolloafor all the way from Nsukka (I like this guy’s recipe. His fish is sweet o – old people sweet, and I like it not all those people that use plenty curry and medemede to make soup) guy told me no fish o, that he was still expecting and would give me a call once the fish comes. I said ok, but then I need break this fast; damn the hunger pangs!. I decided I wasn’t gonna wait for him, no problem I’ll do his fish tomorrow, so decided to check out another of my favourite spot in orba, but this time around goatmeat pepper soup and agadi to send it home(that kind thing). Normal normal by 1 to 2pm, my guy would have finished arranging the pepper soup and all, but when I got there around 2:45pm and he was still arranging the spice and ingredient, I just knew something was wrong. Damn the hunger pangs, the kept throbbing and throbbing. When I asked him what the issue was, he said it was my brothers, that they had everyone on hostage and he had to go source for beer first before arranging the goat meat. I stood there and dried up (would have been better if I said it in igbo, because the English transcription doesn’t carry this expression wella – you get the point. I just stand tire.) Well, hunger still panging and penging still, I wasn’t about to give up. I remember this other outlet in Nsukka (Fish Republic), I was wondering why I didn’t think of her first. After I was done with some business transactions in Orba, I drove straight to Fish Republic to find the whole place dry. Suffice to say I was there the previous evening, and they told me their fish was finished till tomorrow, then it dawned on me; IPOB had done a fast one on me. Till now I never break the fast oh because na chew I wan chew, I no wan eat. I dey on my second bottle of Starlite sha dey reason dey matter. Good enough I no dey feel the hunger pangs again. I go eat anytime I enter house finally. I just say make I vent. ![]() |
The general lifestyle of the ordinary citizen domiciled in SE Nigeria seems to have perhaps been placed on hold following the incessant sit at home orders being executed by IPOB. Martin, a texi driver in Nsukka who is responsible for taking care of his family of 5 daily is at loss on how to pay his 6months overdue rent, pay his children's school fees and provide necessary home essentials. The 4days sit at home will cost him nothing less than N31,000, money he could have applied to helping himself by himself. Mr Martin is not alone in his woos; so are all the many shop owners in all the major market under locks and keys. Suffice to note that business activities are on a standstill and so is everyone who rely on their daily sweat to make a living. Long grammar short – the South East is on purse. For how long? is another story entirely. This condition against all odds may have been bearable had it not come with a wave of fear that has remanded the general public in affected states in their homes. Everyone is scared to leave their houses for the avoidance of stories that touch especially with remorse of burnings and bombing of cars up and down (i added the bombings for effect). A new keke was burnt to ashes somewhere in Aba around Ama Ogbonaya junction today. Same thing happened at another popular junction in Ekwulobia. Previous Monday it was in Enugu, and I also heard Onitcha is not left out. I heard to rush back home after I took a drive round Nsukka today; I’m not sure but I think some guy I saw on red looked at me in a funny way, and I didn’t want to have to explain how I went out when every other person remained indoors. No be me go dey outside. Nah, we are not outside. I spoke with some of my friends and acquittances in other parts of the country, and they were all surprised. It was strange to them. I wanna know though, just some questions that have been bogging me. I am from the East, so naturally my sentiments is with IPOB ( of course, i'm not disputing their rightful agitation for self-governance. Their current modus operandi is what begs the question for me ); I am just wondering if there are other ways they could push for their rights without involving the ordinary man (perhaps, I’m being selfish here or not). I mean I’ve seen the 14-count charge levelled against Mazi NK by the Federal Government of Nigeria. I mean they gat him good on the noose, and the trail doesn’t seem to going away soon. Of course, lets not forgot the statement this January that has been credited to the Presidency assuring the gen pop that Mazi wasn’t going anywhere in a hurry and should answer for his crimes in court. Let’s not go into the body language of the President. I ask again which way forward? Let’s not also forget those unscrupulous elements who have hijacked this sit at home and use the opportunity to perpetrate despicable and untold suffering on their follow citizen. Well, maybe someone can point me in the right direction. I may not be seeing the bigger picture here. **** I heard today's hearing was adjourned as expected, and top on the list of discussion is why the Feds have insisted that Mazi must continue to model for the Italian Luxury fashion house Fendi. ![]() |
