Officers of the Nigeria Police Force dispersed protesters with tear gas in the Maitama area of Abuja.

The protesters, who had gathered on Monday, April 7, scattered in different directions as the tear gas canisters were fired in their midst.

The protest is part of a nationwide demonstration spearheaded by the Take-It-Back Movement and other civil society organisations.

Key among the concerns raised by the organisers are the alleged misuse of the Cybercrime Act, the worsening economic hardship in the country, and what they described as a “state of emergency” in Rivers State.

The demonstrators carried placards bearing inscriptions such as “Stop the Repression” and “Let Us Breathe”.

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore was also present at the protest ground.

Facing allegations of conspiracy and kidnapping, the case against them has sparked nationwide debate. According to court documents, Nwangwu Chidozie and others are accused of executing a kidnapping on September 4, 2024, in Nkpor. The prosecution has presented key witness statements and evidence, including photos, CDs, and official documents.

However, the court has adjourned the case until April 11, 2025, allowing time for proper service and arraignment. Security around the courthouse was tight as the high-profile suspects arrived. 🚔🔒

Their defense counsel, Remigus Okoli, claims the case is politically motivated, insisting that proper legal procedures must be followed. Meanwhile, the prosecution remained silent on further details.

The High Court of Anambra State in Awka recently hosted the first public appearance of Akwa Ọkụkọ, Eke Hit, and Onyeze Jesus following their arrests, according to AnambraNationMedia reports.

The case, which has garnered significant public interest, involves allegations of conspiracy and kidnapping against one of the accused, Nwangwu Chidozie, along with others who are still at large.

Court documents indicate that Chidozie and his associates allegedly conspired to commit a felony and executed a kidnapping on September 4, 2024, in Nkpor, within the court's jurisdiction. The prosecution has presented statements from key witnesses, including ASP Kingsley Umeh, Inspector Effiong Effiong, and Inspector Kelvin Ugwu, alongside exhibits such as photographs, CDs, and official documents.

During today’s session, the court decided to adjourn the case until April 11, 2025, in order to facilitate proper service and arraignment of the defendants. Security was heightened around the court premises as the high-profile suspects made their appearance.
