Properties / Re: Tiling Project : Which Tiles Should I Go For Part 2 (an Advice) by ThatHistoryGuy(m): 2:23pm On Sep 18

ThatHistoryGuy:
Hi my name is Raphael.
Am a tile dealer based in lagos with over 7yrs experience and I saw the need to educate our nairaland tile consumers on which tile to go for in their housing projects.

Have heard many of my clients say "I don't anything expensive it's just a rental project" well even on rental projects you should use a quality tiles so as to achieve durability cus I believe your tiles should last as long as the roof and the ceiling and the rest of the other products used to build the house and if you use low quality tiles cus it's a rental house when the floors gets faded you will still spend to renovate it. Tiles is not something you shld change after 7yrs. 7yrs may seem like a long time bt it's not that long if you think about it.
Your tiles should last for at least 25-30yrs nt 10yrs.
Now most of the tiles that will give you the best of durability both in a residential or public traffic area are the Vitrified tile bt they don't look beautiful as you would want them . Porcelain tile would serve well and look beautiful with assorted designs bt to get good quality porcelain tile you might have to go for Spanish or Italian products which are quite expensive these days .
However Nigeria tile has improved in quality these days though nt all of them and can not be compared to their Spanish/Italian counterparts. There are some Nigeria tile products that are good enough bt to achieve durability of 25yrs for an average home you need to combine Spanish and Nigeria in the case where you can't afford to use Spanish all through the house.
So when tiling your house projects you need guidance on how to spend your budget wisely, how to combine Spanish/Nigeria in other to achieve durability and still nt tear you pocket doing it.
It's better to spend less on the bathroom walls and kitchen walls and more on the floors especially on the sitting rooms, dining, entrance and walkway cus these are the places with the highest traffic.
I usually do recommend using Spanish for the sitting room and dining cus that's the place with most traffic and it's the image maker of your home. If you use low quality tiles there and it gets faded it will give a poor impression of your home to visitors .
Wall tiles don't fade cus you don't step on them like the floor tile so it's best to spend less on them while a better percentage of your budget goes for the sitting room, dining, entrance, walkway then rooms . Rooms has low traffic so should take the least Chunk of your budget for floor tiles .
Kitchen floor has high traffic so you should use a quality tile for it .
Your entrance is another place you shld pay attention to cus you need a quality tiles for it as it can easily get faded if you use some not too good in quality for it .
If it's a duplex you need a quality tiles for the staircase as well cus the foot pressure on it could make it fade within few years if it's nt a good quality.
So knowing what tiles to use and where will play a big role in the overall durability and the beauty of your home on the long run.

Am based in Odunade Lagos so chat or call me up on o81 570 000 908 so I can enlighten better and hook you up with some good tile,wc and sanitary wares.
Thanks for the long read .
Properties / Re: FLOORING: WHICH TILE SHOULD I GO FOR? AN ADVICE by ThatHistoryGuy(m): 2:23pm On Sep 18

ThatHistoryGuy:
On Vitrified tiles
This is the best quality of tiles. This kind of tiles are made to be used as an alternative to granites and marble. It is the best for a high trafficked area cus no matter the the traffic the surface remain the same colour. This is because its produced in a way that the same colour on the surface is the same colour at the back and by the side.So the same colour penetrates throughout the entire thickness of the tile. This kind of tile is non porous and highly resistant to water. Made through the process of vitrification and so has glass texture.
Vitrified tiles are more costly than all other tiles, more durable and is available in Spanish, Italian,Chinese and Nigerian tiles.
There are pure vitrified tiles and partly vitrified tiles.
Best for
*staircase
*varader
*high traffic areas
mostly used in banks
can serve for long period of time.

Thanks for the long read .

Hello people
Properties / Re: FLOORING: WHICH TILE SHOULD I GO FOR? AN ADVICE by ThatHistoryGuy(m): 12:35pm On Sep 13
susanmark:
Hello. I'm renovating my small bathroom and need some guidance on tile selection. The space is quite compact, so I'm considering options that will make it look larger and brighter. I’m torn between using large format tiles or small mosaic tiles. I’ve seen some beautiful tile and porcelain slabs in Toronto, but I’m unsure if they’re the right choice for my project. Any recommendations on which type might be better for creating a sense of spaciousness? Also, are there specific colors or patterns that work best in small bathrooms? I appreciate any advice or personal experiences you can share!

Hi sir
I believe using large size white tiles would help you achieve what you want . Maybe 60x60 plain white .
