14 Basketball Talents Get Unprecedented Multi million dollars US Scholarship Awards From Noah Dallaji Legacy Project

The African Children Talent Discovery Foundation (ACTDF) has awarded $3.6 million scholarship in some US Colleges for 14 talented basketballers discovered in Kano during the recent Noah Dallaji U-17 Basketball Tournament.

Some of the colleges include Brighton Academy in Maine, Washington DC, and Washington State University

At a media briefing in Abuja the first set of the discovered talents, including five students were each awarded with $300,000 which was expected to cover the cost of scholarship and living expenses in the US

The lucky talents are Emmanuel Peter from Bauchi State; Taiwo Ibrahim from Kebbi State, Alphonso Samuel, Daubunachule Ibrahim and Solomon Ominu who represented Kaduna State.

The president of the Noah Dallaji Legacy Project and the African Children Talent Discovery Foundation ACTDF, Dr Noah Dallaji while announcing the package said the nine remaining discovered talents will be on their way to the US after their unveiling in a fortnight .
He urged the successful talents to remain focused and strive to be useful to themselves, families, state and country, warning that the foundation will not hesitate to withdraw the scholarship from anyone found wanting.

The presentation ceremony was attended by former D’Tigers Captain, Olumide Oyedeji, Super Eagles Stars, Daniel Amokachi and one time Newcastle United Striker, Lomana Tresor LuaLua.

Lua lua described the gesture by Dallaji as unprecedented by anybody in Africa.
He advised the talents to be dedicated while working on their potential and see themselves as ambassadors of the country

The Aminu Kano Stadium hosted, perhaps, the biggest sports party Kano city may ever have experienced last Sunday.

The crowd was wowed with the roll call of artistes - Yemi Alade, Peter Okoye, Rekaado Banks, Di’ja, home boy Sani Danja and other local performers who would ever cherish sharing the stage with the top stars. On the anchor were celebrity comedian, AY, and star dancer, Kaffy.

In the A-list of attendants were ex-international sports icons like Tijani Babangida, Garba Lawal, Emmanuel Babayaro and more. Also in the house was Nollywood fine guy, Francis Duru, who co-ordinated from the sides.

It wasnt on a Kano Pillars’ game. It was at the finals of the Noah Dallaji Legacy U-17 Basketball Tournament for youths in the Northern conference, a programme of the Noah Dallaji Legacy Project organised in conjunction with Olumide Ayodeji Foundation.

Sponsored by the African Children Talent Discovery Foundation presided over by Engr Noah Dallaji, the programme featured youth mentoring and life coaching in which the music, movie and sports icons engaged the participants, to provide them insights on various career paths in entertainment and sports, pointing them to the big future ahead, according to their talents and passion, and teaching them how to climb the ropes.

Oyedeji, former captain of D’Tigers, Nigeria's national senior basketball team, and current President of the Nigerian Olympians Association, said he shed tears of fulfillment when some of the players walked up to tell him that the experience was the best thing ever to happen to them.

But, in the plans of Noah Dallaji, it was only the beginning of great things to come towards changing the perfection, reach and fortune of youths in the North

“Our mission is to build a great nation through the discovery and development of young talents in virtually every field of endeavor and supporting them to fulfill their destiny. We have been doing this in the education and entertainment sector. We provide scholarship for about 70 students yearly to study in American universities. This has been made possible through our facilitation of a sister-city relationship between the city of Oakland and Bauchi. Now we have come to sports,” Dallaji explained.

Oyedeji reveals that in line with Noah Dallaji's vision, fourteen players from have been penciled down from the Kano event for further grooming.

“The plan is to nurture, guide and support them to attain fulfilling careers in basketball. The serious ones among them will be sent on scholarship to various American colleges and universities to ensure that they effectively combine sports and education in the most enabling environment. While some may succeed in achieving a career in basketball, others may end up as professionals in other fields."

Dallaji explains the commitment in clearer perspective.

“It is our way of changing lives not only for the youngsters but for their families, communities, society and the nation in general. We believe that their success will inspire those behind them to aspire to achieve same heights and this programme will be sustained through the years to provide a platform to lift up talented youngsters from the inner communities and villages."

Oyedeji points out that the success of the Kano 2021 programme was especially significant towards redirecting the minds of Northern youths from various social vices and guiding them away from the lure of criminality by offering them a better platform for self development, life achievement and the attainment of economic independence.

Even for those not selected among the best 14 or top 5, Oyedeji has a word.

“When I was in the University of Ife, I was not good enough to play in the school basketball team, but by self determination and continued hard work, I grew to play in the American collegiate, in the NBA, various clubs in Europe and Asia and became captain of the Nigeria senior basketball team, D’Tigers. So, even though we have selected those we consider to be the best players, it is important to note that we saw many talented players who may not have necessarily excelled in the tournament. You can be talented and not play well at the beginning but with more training you can distinguish yourself.

“That is why, beyond the training and scouting, I consider the mentorship aspect of the programme even most important as it strengthens the mind and psychology of our young persons to go through life.

“The introduction of entertainment was to feed the passion of the youth and show them that sports is fun. The NBA long adopted the strategy of marrying basketball and entertainment and that enabled them to draw out youngsters from the crime infested inner cities to embrace basketball. We took it a notch further by bringing the entertainment icons to interact at close and personal range with the participants.

"They now return home not only with the free basketball equipments distributed to them to enable keep on training but with a new insight on the game, career paths and possibilities and a more positive outlook towards the feature.

"I cannot thank Engr Noah Dallaji, his Legacy Projects initiative and the ACTDF enough for making this huge investment towards lifting our young persons. When they succeed, they and their families and communities will always remember that he gave them his shoulders to climb.”

Interestingly, Dallaji says it is all for nothing but the good of the nation.

“We are a non-profit, non-business organisation and we have no strings attached in what we do. What we aim at is a greater nation through lifting and building greater youths by supporting them to develop their talents and passion. What we only ask of them is that, when they succeed, they should help others also to succeed. That way we all join hands with one another to build a greater nation.

“Sports is a platform for national unity and we must develop and promote it to unite our people especially in the present situation that we find ourselves. It is a personal commitment, also of the Noah Dallaji Legacy Projects and the ACTDF. We intend to do so through all sports and to reach every community as far as we can across the country. We have no contributions from the government nor any corporate organisation. We only expect that as they see what we do, they can either join hands with us or contribute in their own way.”

It all ended with great joy for everyone.

An exciting day it turned out as the grand finale of the three day maiden Dallaji /Oshoala girls and para-soccer championship held at the Teslim Balogun stadium in Lagos

Amid pomp and pageantry, a large turn out of screaming students, sports fans among others, watched as the unannounced Mr P of PSquare fame gave a rare superlative performance as he bared his half unclad body, and out of excitement to thrill the audience with hit after hit of the songs that made him and his twin, worldwide superstars.

It was one of the exciting side attractions of the finals which saw the winners smiling home with huge cash prizes and donations of brand new wheelchairs to the participating para athletes.

The Para-soccer championship – a three-day event – saw four teams compete for laurels, while the girls’ tourney featured eight teams vying for honours.

Winners of both competitions received cash prizes of one million naira each and medals from the ACTDF president Engineer Noah Dallaji.
Tens of brand new wheelchairs were also donated by Engr. Dallaji to the overjoyed para athletes who’ve been out of active sports in many years, until Dallaji offered them the opportunity.

Reigning African Women’s Footballer of The Year and Barcelona Femeni star Oshoala partnered with Dallaji, founder of African Children Talent Discovery Foundation ACTDF , to help the less-privileged through education and sports

The twin events are the initiative of the African Children Talents Discovery Foundation in collaboration with the Asisat Oshoala Foundation.

Asisat Oshoala said the girls’ soccer tourney became necessary after her foundation realised that women footballers were denied of football competition.

“In line with the vision of our foundation which is focused on the girl child, we decided to float the girls’ soccer tourney.”

Oshoala disclosed that her meeting with the Chairman of the African Children Talents Discovery Foundation, Engineer Noah Dallaji, made her realise that charity work should not be gender-based, hence the inclusion of the para-soccer championship.

An excited Asisat Oshoala noted that she was inspired to partner with Dallaji because of his passion to help the needy.

The Oshoala Foundation encourages girls to go ahead with their dream of turning professionals. The foundation has helped about 5,000 girls. “It’s my little bit to help girls in Lagos but after my meeting with Dallaji, he has raised the bar higher by including para-athletes, which has improved the quality of the soccer tournaments”

For Engr Dallaji it was a continuation of a lifelong passion for charitable causes.
Engineer Dallaji said his foundation had been in existence for a long time and it had been preoccupied with how to improve the wellbeing of a lot of the teeming youth in the country.
“No nation can exist without the youth,” he stated, adding, “every individual has something in him to be discovered, to be honed and nurtured to stardom.”

It may interest you to know that the Noah Dallaji Legacy Project alongside the Africa Childern Talent Discovery foundation recently discovered 37 soccer talents that would soon be sent to both local and international soccer academies
Dallaji is also lending his weight to many other ongoing and future local and international sporting events .

He said, “Ours is to provide the platform for them to take advantage of. We are all born in different ways for different purposes,”
Plans are already underway to make next years tournament bigger and better.

He therefore called on well meaning individuals and corporate bodies to lend their support to the Dallaji/Oshoala tournament for the less privileged in the society.

The 2 days event was really inspiring, encouraging and motivational for all especially the young talents discovered from the project who will go on to enjoy mentorship and support towards becoming professional footballers.

Special appreciation to Engineer Noah Dallaji for coming up with such initiative and for hosting it in North East (Nigeria) despite the security challenges in the region. This is indeed a ray of hope for millions of Nigerians.

The 2nd edition of the ACTDF, an initiative of the Noah Dallaji Legacy Project in Bauchi, lived up to the billings as ex football superstars, celebrities, mentees and huge crowd of football fans thronged the Tafawa Balewa stadium to exhibit and witness history in the making.

The roll call of ex international football superstars, music and movie celebrities in attendance were Lua Lua, Fadiga, Appiah, Diouf, Okocha, Nwankwo, Amokachi, Babayaro,, Eguavoen, Babangida etc

Others include Peter Okoye of PSquare, Waje, Ricardo Banks, Kaffy, Timi Dakolo, Emeka Rollas, Abubakar among many other stars.

The team was well received at the palace of the Emir of Bauchi Alhaji Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu who offered his royal blessings before the commencement of the football exhibition

Tagged Engr. Noah Dallaji Legacy Project, this year’s edition would feature football where talents between ages 16 and 18 would be discovered and mentored by big names in Nigeria’s soccer history.

The foundation Chairman, Engr. Noah Dallaji, told the media in Abuja that the programme would advance ACTDF’s vision and mission to discover and develop Nigerian talents with the ultimate aim of developing the country.

According to him, it is important to develop the natural talent of youths in order to maximize their opportunities for a purposeful life.

Dallaji said the Legacy project will continue to progress as an annual event, while assuring that the next edition would attract greater numbers of soccer legends and participants.

Project Coordinator, Emmanuel Babayaro, who also spoke on the preparations, said the event proper would be preceded by an open selection process where the selected talents would be camped and mentored by the likes of Daniel Amokachi, Jay Jay Okocha, Kanu Nwankwo, Austin Eguavoen, Tijani Babangida, Garba Lawal, Austine Eguavon, and others including El Hadji Diouf of Senegal and Stephen Appiah of Ghana.

He added, “Successful participants will be taken to the ACTDF Academy in Abuja and trained before exposing them to foreign trials.”
