It is sad that even a lady that ordinary is more sympathetic towards the pain and plight of others than males joined in murdering her fellow lady and likely schoolmate. If only the north will channel this energy and anger towards the leaders that have kept them a century backwards by mobilizing to kick them out of office...but no, they will rather kill in the name of religion over a prophet they have never met, and over a prophet in whose lifetime, this likely would have not happened. Christianity and other religions have their issues, no doubt, but the truth is as a Muslim, you can wear a shirt boldly labelled- "Jesus is a goat" and walk in peace anywhere in Nigeria. You can even wear that shirt into a church in the Vatican and they will allow you attend the church service and pray that God forgives you. In contrast, try wearing a similar shirt with an inscription against the person of the prophet Muhammad (SAW), and step out anywhere in this country where there are Muslims, particularly in the North...you will be lucky to return with your life. Nigerian Muslims have a lot of work to do on tolerance. You believe in Allah and the prophet, that is great. You have a right to, but let them fight their battles. Irrespective of what your religion tells you, murder is a crime under Nigerian laws and all over the world. It is not enough to just condemn this act. When you go online and see the number of individuals in support of this barbaric act, you will understand that there is an urgent need to teach your kids differently before things get out of hand. The North is sitting on a time bomb! Kindly note that we have condemned extrajudicial killings all over the country...be it by IPOB, bandits, boko haram, armed robbers and regular citizens...but this thread is about Deborah. The girl that was beaten, stoned, killed and burnt yesterday. When a new religion pops up and instructs its followers to kill anyone that prays in public, the same people supporting this unfortunate incidence will cry fowl because another religion is preventing them from practicing their religion in peace, whereas they are doing same thing by killing an individual that purportedly spoke against the prophet, simply because some twisted teacher taught them so. Practice your religion, fight against hunger and for the future of your kids roaming the streets and let God handle His own battles. God help us.

ivolt:The state is actually the accuser. Even if she was alive, it is still the state to prosecute...and by the way, you don't refer to him as a suspected rapist anymore. He has be discharged and acquitted of the offences for which he was charged. The state can only appeal the acquittal. |
LilMissFavvy:Will I be right to say everything you've written here are simple based on what you saw or heard on social media, and you were never physically present when they happened or present in court as the evidence were presented? |
ivolt:This is just like saying because a doctor has been treating malaria only, he has no right to complain about the severity of cancer. Everybody cannot take up all fights at a time...if I speak against one evil, you speak against another, gradually, we will right societal evils. In any case, You are just buttressing my points. These alleged kidnappers and bandits and yahoo boys are all predominantly men and are facing same issues that victims of false accusations in sexual offences are facing. Nobody believes any of them even after acquittal because they are men and "men are evil". Now in contrast, see how females suspects are treated. From better prison facilities to fair handling each time they are brought to court...even the female alleged kidnappers, internet scammers and homicide suspect. Very fair treatment as against the average men that are loaded in overpopulated cells and brought to court in heavy chains. Let's not just use this to distract ourselves from the issue at hand which is false accusations for sexual offences and domestic violence issues. We have been speaking against these and we will not let bullies stop us from spreading the word. Shallom. |
PerfectStranger:She just confirmed my fears. She believes the man should prove his innocence because he is guilty until proven innocent instead of the other way round. The burden of proof is on the prosecution, and in this, they failed...at least that's what this judgement means. Men please be careful out there. An accusation can ruin your life. |
LilMissFavvy:One or two in a thousand? Where exactly did you get this statistics from? I'll tell you where. From emotions. As for the issue of bribing the judge, it appears you do not know much about how trial works so I'll advise you research more. One free lecture though- the judge in a matter can only base his judgement from the fact presented and proven before him...not from what he sees on social media. The man has been acquitted and the prosecution has a right of appeal. Until there is a contrary judgment from the appeal court, let's please let this innocent man try to put his life back together. |
BotRascal:It is normal to see ladies like you trivialize the plight of men. It's almost like you take pleasure from seeing men suffer. That not withstanding, let's analyze your response logically. Firstly you said my assertion that men were endangered is a joke. I have no response to this as I believe it's unfortunate that despite all evidence, you still feel this way. I can't help you on that. Only God can...and yes, I believe this should be in the front page for more people to be informed. Secondly, on whether the man was falsely accused, I answer in the affirmative. That is exactly what an acquittal means, and unless the prosecution succeeds on appeal, that man is an innocent man and has always been. You only judge him guilty on sentiments, not facts. On whether she was raped or not, let's be clear on what we actually know. The police was the prosecution and it is their duty to try to find him guilty. The police hospital said she died as a result of STIs related issues. The general hospital which is an independent party and also government owned performed an autopy and disputed the report of the police. They opined that she died of natural causes. I leave this for open minded readers to drawn an inference from. Next, assuming but without conceding that she indeed had STIs. Is there a possibility that just like the chrisland girl, she was actually sexually active with people in school and elsewhere? OK, let's assume she was raped, is there anything to suggest that this was done by the man out of the billions of men on earth? The son is nowhere to be found so he hasn't been taken to court. Is there a possibility that the son is guilty but the man is actually innocent? Ponder about this. You should seek for the the facts of the wife's conviction before commenting. What if she admitted to having reasons to believe that the boy was up to something and did nothing about it? If you weren't in that court during the trial, look for transcripts of the proceedings before you come to condemn an acquitted man here. I pray for you this morning, that someday you will not be wrongly accused of an offence you did not commit and the world calls for your head even after you have been cleared because they really wish you were guilty. It is better to free 10 guilty persons against whom a case have not been proven than to convict one innocent person. |
Kriss216:Lol...it's just unfortunate really the things men go through and can't talk about because nobody cares even when they do. |
I woke this morning to an thread on the front page of our dear nairaland titled- Ochanya: State court acquits husband of raping minor, federal court convicts wife of negligence. Here is the link- https://www.nairaland.com/7101496/ochanya-rape-state-court-acquits Generally, in criminal trials, there is a presumption of innocence, and the standard of proof is to prove beyond reasonable doubt. Unfortunately for men however, the reverse is the case. Once a man is accused of an offence, particularly allegedly committed against a woman, society consider him automatically guilty until proven innocent. In the thread refered to above, the man was accused of rape, and everyone called for his head. His life has been in disarray and in different prisons for months, and at the end, the court ruled that there was nothing connecting him directly to the commission of the offense. He was thereafter acquitted. Despite the acquital, society has already convicted him without any shread of evidence, and are still calling him a rapist. Go through the thread and you will see for yourself what people here on nairaland were saying. These people weren't there when the offense was allegedly committed. What exactly do we want? Throw him in prison without any evidence, even when an autopsy from a government hospital said the girl died of natural causes? Here is the thing...what if this man is actually innocent? See also the case of the American actor-Johnny Depp and ex-wife, Amber Heard, which trial is currently ongoing. She accused the actor of domestic violence against her, and immediately she did this, his career was over. He was dropped from the set of the new pirates of the Caribbean movie, and blacklisted by other producers just on the basis of a mere allegations. Now he has sued the woman for defamation, and both video and audio evidence; most of which she actually recorded herself, have shown that she actually was the one committing acts of domestic violence against him, not the other way round. She even on one of the audios dared him to report the abuse as nobody will believe him because he is a man. Now, the twist is on the one end, Johnny Depp lost his career based on a mere accusation, but even with all the evidence already out now against the same accusal, none of her sponsors or employers have sacked her; the double standard. Conclusion: We live in sad times when the male gender has literally become an endangered one. I have a father, and I do have brothers, and it will kill me to see them accused wrongly and not be given a chance to defend themselves just because they are men. Many men, both young and old are dying in prisons awaiting trials for offenses they did not commit, mostly sexually and domestic violence related...and for the few that are lucky to be acquitted and get out, the stigma continues. Nobody believes them. I saw a thread of a young man here on nairaland that was in prison for 8 years awaiting trial because his friend's girlfriend accused him of rape. He was acquitted, but 8 years of his life is gone, and the girl is walking free. Worse part is people didn't even take him serious when he created the thread here. It would have been different if he was a lady. I understand there are true victims of rape and domestic violence, and I stand against those acts...but the truth is that false accusations and the assumption of guilty before proven innocent is really unfortunate. May we never be in a situation where we know we didn't commit an offence but the whole world disbelief us; that is what many men are going through these days. Men, please be careful. Be careful of the kind of ladies you have around you. Don't be in the right place at the wrong time. We will continue to speak up against these unfortunate occurrence till something is done. |
Righteousness2:LOL. Very sound argument. Of course I will keep quiet. |
Righteousness2:Hey, you need to calm down. You're condemning them for worshipping a man as God simply because you were taught to only worship another man (Jesus) as God. If Jesus could be born of a mortal, live as a mortal and die like a mortal and be God, why can't someone else be? That your own God is different doesn't necessarily make theirs to be false...you were just taught differently. At the end we are all going to hell in another man's religion, so let's learn to be tolerant. |
Whatever happened to freedom of religion? Would the reaction be same if the guy had gone there with him Pastor or Imam instead? |
