One of the most conditioned rejections in human psychology is the rejection of our own wisdom. We were taught that wisdom belongs to philosophers, scientists, spiritual leaders, elders, or historically celebrated figures. Wisdom became something distant — something reserved for people with titles, recognition, or authority. So when wisdom shows up in us, we mislabel it. We call it overthinking. We call it sensitivity. We call it being “too serious.” We call it anxiety. We call it introversion. We call it trauma. But very often, it is wisdom. Wisdom is not about knowing everything. It is about seeing deeply. It is about understanding patterns. It is about learning from experience. It is about perceiving meaning beneath surface events. Many wise people walk through life believing they are simply complicated, misunderstood, or different — when in reality, they are perceptive beyond their environment. Below are 7 obvious signs you may be far wiser than you think. Read slowly. You might finally recognise parts of yourself you were taught to ignore 1. You Reflect Deeply on Your Experiences You do not just move from event to event. You analyse, process, and extract lessons — even from painful moments. Pain that becomes insight is wisdom in motion. 2. You See Patterns in People and Situations Quickly You notice behaviours repeating, emotional cycles forming, and consequences unfolding before others recognise them. Pattern recognition is one of the highest forms of wisdom. 3. You Value Peace More Than Being Right Winning arguments feels less important than preserving relationships, stability, or inner calm. Wisdom prioritises harmony over ego. 4. You Question Yourself Instead of Blaming Others Automatically Even when hurt, you reflect on your role, your reactions, and your growth opportunities. Self-examination is a hallmark of maturity and wisdom. 5. You Feel Comfortable With Complexity and Uncertainty You understand that life is rarely black and white. You can hold multiple truths at once without panic. The ability to tolerate ambiguity is intellectual and emotional wisdom combined. 6. People Confide in You Naturally Others feel safe sharing their struggles with you, often without knowing why. Your presence feels grounding. Wisdom creates psychological safety without effort. 7. You Have Learned From Pain Instead of Becoming Bitter You may carry scars, but they produced compassion, understanding, and depth rather than hardness. Suffering that produces empathy is transformed into wisdom. Wisdom rarely feels glamorous from the inside. From within, it often feels like: “I think too much.” “I feel too deeply.” “I don’t fit in.” “I’ve been through too much.” But wisdom is not loud. It is not performative. It is not desperate for recognition. It is quiet clarity shaped by lived experience. Many wise people underestimate themselves because what feels normal to them is exceptional to others. If you recognised yourself here, this is not an invitation to ego. It is an invitation to acknowledgement. It is a sacred invitation for you to become who you already are but didn’t know it. Because unrecognised wisdom becomes self-doubt. Recognised wisdom becomes guidance — for yourself and for others. You were never “too much.” You were perceiving more than your environment could explain. And when you finally accept the wisdom within you, you stop shrinking — and start living with grounded confidence, compassion, and quiet authority. https://9jabrief.com/view-feed/232444 |
Alcohol. That loyal friend who visits quietly, overstays loudly, and leaves you with a bill you do not remember approving. I met alcohol in college. Like many bad decisions, it arrived disguised as freedom, maturity, and social confidence. The first drink did not taste nice. Nobody tells you that. You learn to drink the way children learn to like vegetables; through pressure and performance. Soon, alcohol became part of the timetable; lectures during the day and Philosophy at night; deep discussions that nobody remembered the following morning. We solved world problems between 10 pm and 3 am and forgot the solutions by breakfast. I drank heavily. Very heavily. The kind of drinking that starts in the evening and ends when birds begin their morning devotion. Nights were long. Wallets were light. Confidence was artificial. Wisdom was imaginary. At the time, it felt important. Necessary even. You could not be the only one at the table drinking soda. That required a level of self confidence I had not yet downloaded. Years passed. College ended. Responsibility arrived. Alcohol did not leave. It upgraded from a visitor to a tenant and finally from a tenant to a landlord. Money disappeared quietly. Not in big dramatic amounts but in small consistent leaks; a drink here, a round there; celebrations that needed alcohol; stress that needed alcohol; happiness that needed alcohol; sadness that needed alcohol. Eventually, life itself seemed to require alcohol as a supporting document. Looking back now, I ask myself a simple question. What exactly was the value? Did alcohol make me healthier? No. Wealthier? Absolutely not. Wiser? Only in the morning when I was regretting it. Cleverer? The opposite. Alcohol gives you confidence to say things you should never say, to people you should never say them to, at times you should definitely be asleep. It convinces you that you are the most interesting person in the room. Meanwhile, you are just loud. It makes strangers look like friends and friends look like philosophers. It turns ordinary music into life changing experiences and ordinary ideas into business plans that should never be attempted. Alcohol has wrecked families, marriages, careers, businesses, and finances with an efficiency that would impress any project manager. Arguments start. Trust erodes. Health declines; Money vanishes. Time disappears. And the next day, you cannot even remember what you were fighting for. The positive side? I have searched for it like a lost receipt. I am yet to find it. Maybe for some people, there is moderation. For me, moderation was a rumor. Once I started, the night had to finish properly. And “properly” meant watching sunrise with a headache forming quietly behind my eyes. About ten years ago, I stopped drinking. No dramatic announcement. No press conference. Just a slow realization that this loyal friend had contributed nothing meaningful to my life except stories that were not even funny anymore. The first thing I noticed was money. Suddenly, my wallet was not under attack every weekend. The second thing was time. Nights became shorter. Mornings became useful. Birds stopped being witnesses to my poor decisions. The third thing was clarity. I discovered that problems do not disappear in a bottle. They wait for you patiently at the bottom. And then came the changes I had not anticipated. I started eating better. I started sleeping better. I started judging better. My financial position improved quietly but steadily. My relationship with my family became healthier because I was now present, not just physically there but mentally available. Even my relationship with God improved. I had more time to pray, to reflect, to make sacrifices, and to tithe without feeling like I was negotiating with my conscience. And strangely, life did not become boring. It became peaceful. I started attending events and remembering everything. I started leaving parties when I was still respectable. I started having conversations that made sense the following day. I realized something important. Alcohol does not add value to your life. It only edits your awareness of it. It edits your money. It edits your health. It edits your judgment. It edits your time. And when you finally remove it, you realize how much of your life was being quietly negotiated away. Today, when I look back at those long nights, the colossal amounts of money, the imaginary wisdom, and the early morning regrets, I do not feel guilty. I feel educated. Because sometimes you have to live through a habit to understand its true cost. If alcohol taught me anything, it is this. You do not need a drink to be interesting. You do not need a drink to be social. You do not need a drink to handle stress. You do not need a drink to celebrate life. In fact, life becomes clearer, cheaper, healthier, and far less dramatic without it. And the best part? You wake up in the morning with no apologies to make. https://9jabrief.com/view-feed/323420 https://9jabrief.com/view-feed/341214

The Asiwaju Musulumi of Yorubaland, Edo, and Delta, Alhaji Khamis Olatunde-Badmus, on Sunday implored political officeholders in Nigeria to stop promoting tension in the country through their conduct, speeches, and politics. He made the appeal in his congratulatory message to Muslims in commemoration of the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, held after the Ramadan fasting. Olatunde-Badmus, who is also an industrialist, emphasized that “in the spirit of the Ramadan fast, which preaches peace, perseverance, good conduct, generosity, decorum, and fairness, the Nigerian political class should avoid playing bitter politics above the national interest and welfare of those who elected them.” According to him, since the advent of the Fourth Republic, political sentiments, bitterness, and negative perceptions by many politicians have threatened the peace and tranquility of the country. He said, “If someone has been elected effectively into office, those politicians who were not elected should not form the habit of destroying those elected at all costs.” Olatunde-Badmus further contended that for Nigeria to develop, all Nigerians, irrespective of political leaning, must be patriotic and sincere in working together in the interest of the peace and progress of the nation. While congratulating all Muslims on the commemoration of Eid-ul-Fitr, he tasked them not to abandon the virtues of kindness, fairness, incorruptible character, faithfulness to God, and respect for fellow human beings. https://9jabrief.com/view_feed?feed__key=161108 |
Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party’s candidate in the Edo governorship election, on Monday, strongly criticized the exercise, labeling it a “commodities market” and “transaction” marred by vote-buying and voter apathy. “As attested to by YIAGA Africa, our sacred electoral process was reduced to a bidding war for votes,” Akpata said in a statement, following the Independent National Electoral Commission’s declaration of Monday Okpebholo’s victory. Former President Donald Trump holds a lead over Vice President Kamala Harris in three pivotal battleground states—Arizona, North Carolina, and Georgia—according to a new poll by The New York Times and Siena College. The survey, conducted from September 17 to 21, shows Trump ahead by narrow margins: 50-45 in Arizona, 49-45 in Georgia, and 49-47 in North Carolina, with each state’s margin of error between four and five percentage points. Voters in these states expressed significant concerns about key issues like the economy, immigration, abortion, and the overall direction of the country. Both candidates face unfavorable perceptions, with 50% of respondents viewing Trump negatively and 51% having an unfavorable opinion of Harris. Despite the slim leads, political analysts caution that these battleground states remain highly competitive. “Trump’s edge in states like Arizona and Georgia, which flipped in 2020, underscores how volatile the political landscape remains,” said pollster Lisa Jamison. “But Harris’s strong presence on issues like reproductive rights could sway undecided voters, particularly women, in the final stretch. Both candidates are intensifying their efforts in swing states. Harris recently held rallies in North Carolina and Georgia, focusing on reproductive rights, while Trump has campaigned in Arizona and North Carolina, with a rally set for Savannah, Georgia. Both campaigns are set to escalate their outreach as the race tightens ahead of the 2024 election. https://9jabrief.com |
President of Dangote Group and Africa’s richest man has said that the price of Dangote Refinery’s petrol is 15 percent cheaper than the ones imported by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. The billionaire disclosed this in an interview with Bloomberg Television on Monday. His comments were weeks after NNPCL disclosed that it bought petrol from Dangote Refinery at N898 per liter upon lifting the company’s locally made petrol on September 15, 2024. DAILY POST reports that the development had led to NNPCL’s announcement of new petrol price which rose to between N950 and N1,100 across filling stations in the country. The petrol price controversy between NNPCL and Dangote Refinery had created confusion in the oil and gas sector more than a week ago. However, Dangote clarified that at the time NNPCL bought its petrol, the state-owned oil firm also imported about 800,000 metric tons of imported gasoline, insisting that his product was cheaper than the one imported. According to him, the petrol NNPCL announced that it bought Dangote Petrol was not the real price but the cost after the company had added profit and other expenses. He stressed that Nigerians do not know how much NNPCL spent on importing petrol, noting that it was 15 percent more expensive than Dangote Petrol. “There wasn’t a disagreement, per se. NNPC bought from us on the 15th of September at the international price, which they also bought, about 800,000 metric tons of gasoline imported. “So the one that they bought from us is cheaper than the one they are importing. “And so when they announced our price, the guy, I don’t know whether he was authorized. It wasn’t the real price. What they have announced is most likely what it cost them, including profit and other expenses. “And then the other one is one that they imported. But the people don’t know how much they spend in terms of imports, but their importation is almost, maybe about 15 percent more expensive than ours, you know. “So what they are supposed to do is to sell at a basket price, or if they want to remove subsidy, they can announce that they will remove subsidy, which is okay, everybody you know, will adjust it.” Dangote had earlier stated that the Nigerian Government should completely remove fuel subsidy. Meanwhile, recall that petrol marketers had disclosed that they bought NNPCL’s imported petrol at an average of N870 per liter. https://www.9jabrief |

The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Enoch Adeboye, has opened up on how he balances marital romance with his spiritual duties. Pastor Adeboye married Folu Adeboye on 17 December 1967, and the union is blessed with children and grandchildren. The 82-year-old cleric, in a statement posted on his Facebook page on Friday, revealed the key to a lasting marriage and advised couples to prioritise intimacy and romance to nurture and sustain their relationships. He said: “Have a pet name that you call each other behind closed doors. Until today, there is a pet name my wife calls me when we are alone. I have a pet name that I call her, and every time I call her by that name, she cannot but smile at me lovingly. “When we are alone, we are lovers, not Daddy G.O. and Mummy G.O. Your marriage can be like heaven on earth if you and your spouse are deliberate about remaining the lovebirds you were when you first married. Don’t let the romance die.” Romance and Christianity The second national president of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria also stressed that being a Christian does not prevent one from being romantic. Pastor Adeboye further stated that marriage is the only institution where romance and intimacy are permitted and encouraged between a man and a woman. “Some pastors hardly go on dates with their spouses because they consider such a romantic activity as a distraction from their focus on spiritual matters. Some of them don’t even play with their spouses anymore. “Beloved, the anointing does not reduce the need for romance in marriage. Isaac was an anointed man of God and a successful businessman, yet in Genesis 26:8, the Bible says he was being romantic with his wife. It came to pass when he had long been there that Abimelech, king of the Philistines, looked out at a window and saw, behold, Isaac was sporting his wife with Rebekahe.” There is no fun elsewhere He also encouraged Christian couples to avoid being overly rigid in their marriages, noting that true joy and companionship can only be found with their spouse. More so, he noted that the time couples spend together is so enjoyable that they constantly look forward to being in each other’s presence again. “If you are married, remember how you used to talk for long hours with your spouse before you got married and had children; revive that relationship again. Your spouse is still the same fellow you were very fond of, and the things you loved in them are still there. Don’t let all the cares of this life distract you from the gems in your spouse. “Once in a while, compose a poem for your spouse and read it to them in a romantic setting. Spice things up with pleasant surprises now and then. Write a note and put it in their bag so that they will see the note and smile when they get to the office and open their bag" https://9jabrief.com

Former Super Eagles captain John Mikel Obi says Ademola Lookman made the right decision by choosing to represent Nigeria at the senior level. Lookman played for England at the youth level before later switching international allegiance. The 26-year-old was cleared to play for Nigeria by FIFA in February 2022. Mikel commended the Atalanta winger for opting to play for the three-time African champions whilst still at his prime. “Players have to wait for a while before they decide they want to represent their African root. I genuinely think it shouldn’t be that way,” Mikel said on BeIN Sports. “If you have decide where you want to play. If you decide you want to play for England, France or Germany, you have to wait, if you don’t get called up that’s your decision. If you are 20-year-old, make your decision, don’t wait until you are 26, 28. Don’t wait until you are past your best and we become a second option. https://9jabrief.com “I think Ademola Lookman made the right decision to switch quickly to represent Nigeria, and he’s done really well. He played well last season and he’s such a fantastic player.”

Nigeria’s consumer protection agency, FCCPC, has imposed a $220 million fine, which is about N330 billion on Meta Platforms Inc., owners of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram, for allegedly abusing the data of their Nigerian users. According to a statement by the FCCPC chairperson, Adamu Abdullahi, the agency investigated Meta’s operations between May 2021 and December 2023 and found multiple cases of invasion into the private data of its Nigerian consumers. The commission’s findings showed discriminatory and invasive practices against Nigerian consumers such as denial of access to their right to self-determination, unauthorised distribution of their data and cross-border transfer of these data. “The commission found this after Meta provided some “information/evidence that is in part responsive to document requests and summons…,” Mr Abdulahi wrote. This practice, Mr Abdullahi said, violates the country’s policies on data protection as established in the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Act (FCCPA) 2018 and the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) 2019. He also noted that these invasive practices conducted by Meta are only exclusive to Nigerian consumers as the agency did not find such cases in other countries with similar regulations as Nigeria. “The totality of the investigation has concluded that Meta Parties over a protracted period of time have engaged in conduct that constitutes multiple and repeated, as well as continuing infringements of the FCCA and NDPR, particularly, but not limited to abusive, and invasive practices against data subjects/consumers in Nigeria. These practices include, “appropriating personal data or information without consent, discriminatory practices against Nigerian data subjects/consumers or disparate treatment of consumers/data subjects compared with other jurisdictions with similar regulatory frameworks, abuse of dominant market position by forcing unscrupulous, exploitative, and non-compliant privacy policies which appropriated consumer personal information without the option or opportunity to self-determine or otherwise withhold or provide consent to the gathering, use, and/or sharing of such personal data,” he said. https://9jabrief.com

Contrary to the news making the rounds that the governors are happy with the Supreme Court ruling on Local Government autonomy, Sunday Telegraph can report that most of them are angry with the verdict which has freed the third tier of government from the chokehold of the governors. In reaction to the ruling, the Chairman of the Nigeria Governors Forum (NGF) and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRazaq AbdulRahman, declared that the state governors were comfortable with the Supreme Court judgment, which granted financial autonomy to local governments. He said that the ruling had relieved the governors of a burden, noting that they were happy with devolving powers to the third tier of government. Asked particularly for his reaction to the apex court’s judgement, the Kwara Governor said: “We welcome the ruling of the Supreme Court, compliance is given and our Attorney Generals have applied for the enrollment order, which we’ll study carefully.” He said: “But by and large, governors are happy with the devolution of power concerning local government autonomy. It relieves the burden on governors. “Our people don’t know how much states expend in bailing out local governments, and that’s the issue there.” But impeccable sources, who spoke with Sunday Telegraph on Thursday night, said that the ruling hit the governors at the solar plexus. “They did not know what hit them,” a source volunteered. The source said: “Most of the governors are very, very angry. They believed that the president sold them a dummy and the essence of federalism was gone, that rather than helping the country, it had brought about a situation where the Federal Government would become more powerful. And they believe that it is more political and that the president and his thinkers believed that they want to curry the favour of the grassroots, so that his election in 2027 will garner support at that level.” The Source continued: “They are very angry and it is going to cause a lot of problems in the polity. As things stand, the interpretation is that we have three tiers of government. What is about to happen is to make the Federal Government more powerful and it has divested the powers of the state, to even govern their polity. That is what the governors are saying. “They have been meeting but the Governors Forum will meet from all indications to weigh their options.” Another Source said: “I understand that they are livid. For instance, in some states of the federation, there have not been any elections at the local government level. In Anambra State, if you check the records, the last time any Local Government elections were held was 12 years ago. You can count several states with elected local government chairmen. What they have is local government caretaker committees. “Now, the governors are in a tight situation. They are in a fix on what and how to generate revenue. It means less money for them to throw around and their influence would wane.” Part of the judgment according to the governors is that local governments without elective chairmen would not even get money from the federation account. That is one part of it. “The governors are meeting and are angry. They are meeting across political lines to know how to go about it. “A number of them say it is more political; that the president and his handlers are using it to garner support for 2027. Someone was even quoted to have said ‘that the president is biting the fingers that fed him despite all they did to make him win the APC presidential ticket and eventually elected the president of Nigeria. This is the way he wants to repay us’. “The ruling also makes it that funds would not be given to any local government not democratically elected. “This is where the real problem is, especially those of them with LCDAs (Local Council Development Areas), which are not listed in the constitution. “How do you split the money you have no control over, especially if you do not belong to the same political party with the chairman of the local government? Wait until elections are conducted into local councils, which would be conducted by the INEC. That is where there will be real issue because; where a local government chairman wins an election may not be the strong hold of the governor.” Whichever they would go, this would be known when the governors meet on Wednesday under the auspices of the NGF to fashion a way out. https://9jabrief.com/view_feed?feed__key=25036 |
