CareerWhy No One’s Hiring You (and How To Fix That—fast) by Thewritingbeing(op): 2:50am On Mar 06, 2025
If you're struggling to land clients, the problem isn't the market. It's how you're showing up. If you look like everyone else, you'll struggle like everyone else. Fix this, and clients will start choosing you—fast."

Step 1: Stop Sounding Like Every Other Freelancer
Most freelancers introduce themselves like this:
- "I'm a writer."
- "I do social media."
- "I'm a designer."

That’s exactly why no one remembers them. Clients don’t pay for skills—they pay for **outcomes**.

Fix this now:
- Instead of "I’m a graphic designer,"say: *"I create brand visuals that make customers stop scrolling and start buying."
- Instead of "I do marketing,"* say: "I help businesses turn content into cash."

Nobody is hiring you just for what you *do*—they’re hiring you for **what you make happen.**

Step 2: Pick a Lane (And Own It)
Trying to do everything? That’s why no one remembers you.
Clients don’t hire “general freelancers.” They hire specialists who solve specific problems.

Fix this now:
- Instead of "I do social media,"→ Be "I help realtors sell more homes using Instagram."
- Instead of "I’m a web designer," → Be "I build eCommerce stores that double sales."
- Instead of "I write," → Be *"I craft emails that make people click buy now.

Specialists get higher rates, better clients, and more referrals.

Step 3: Proof Beats Promises—Always
Clients don’t care what you say you can do. They care what you can prove.
If you don’t have results yet, go create them.

Fix this now:
- Share before-and-after transformations of your work. Even mock projects count.
- Document your process. Show your expertise in action.
- Give mini case studies:
- "Here’s how I helped a client triple their leads in 30 days."
- "This is how I turned a dead social media account into a sales machine."

Proof sells. The minute people see what you can do, they stop doubting—and start paying.

"Most freelancers don’t have a skills problem. They have a visibility problem.
Fix how you show up, speak like an expert, and back it up with proof—clients won’t just hire you.
They’ll line up for you.

Jobs/VacanciesSALARY : Why You’re Leaving Money On The Table (and How To Fix It In 5 Steps) by Thewritingbeing(op): 8:08am On Mar 04, 2025
The biggest salary mistake isn’t asking for too much—it’s asking for too little.

And the worst part?
Employers expect you to negotiate, but most people don’t.

Here’s how to make sure you never settle for less again.

Step 1: Stop Thinking Like an Employee—Start Thinking Like an Asset

• Your salary isn’t a gift—it’s a reflection of the value you bring to a company.

• Employers don’t pay you for your time; they pay for your impact.

• Shift your mindset: Instead of “I hope they pay me well,” think “What results do I bring that justify my worth?”

What to do before negotiation:

✔ Write down 3-5 tangible results you’ve achieved in past roles (saved money, improved efficiency, grew revenue, reduced workload, etc.).

✔ Be ready to present these results as proof of your value when discussing salary.

Step 2: Never Give a Number First—But Always Have One Ready

• Rule #1: Let them make the first offer. Why? Because their range might be higher than what you were going to ask for.

• If they push you for a number? Say:
• “I’d love to understand the budget range for this role first.”
• Or: “I’m open, but based on my research and expertise, I expect a competitive salary aligned with the industry standard.”

✔ Pro tip: Always research salary benchmarks using sites like Glassdoor, PayScale, or LinkedIn Salary.

✔ Have a range (not a fixed number) based on data, e.g., “From my research, roles like this typically range between $75,000 - $90,000.”

Step 3: Add More Than Just Money to the Equation

• Salary is only one part of compensation. Negotiate the full package.

• If the employer won’t budge on salary, negotiate for:
✅ Bonuses (signing bonus, performance-based bonuses)

✅ Remote work/flexible hours (work-life balance is money)

✅ Professional development (paid courses, conferences)

✅ Equity or profit-sharing (especially in startups)

✅ More vacation days (time = money)

✔ Pro tip: If an employer can’t raise your salary, they might be open to these perks—so ask!

Step 4: Use Silence as a Power Move

• After making your salary request, stop talking.

• Most people ruin negotiations by over-explaining or justifying themselves.

• Employers often expect pushback, so don’t rush to fill the silence—let them process and respond.

✔ Example:
🚫 Wrong: “I was thinking of $85,000, but I’m flexible, so whatever works…”
✅ Right: “Based on my experience and market rates, I’d expect $85,000.” (Then stay silent and wait.)

Step 5: Always Have a Plan B (And Be Ready to Walk Away)

• The strongest position in a negotiation is knowing that you have options.

• If the offer is below your worth and there’s no room for negotiation, be ready to decline (professionally).

• Example response:
• “I appreciate the offer, but based on my expertise and market standards, this doesn’t align with my expectations. I’d love to work together, but I’d need to see an adjusted offer.”
• If they really want you, they will find a way to make it work.

✔ Pro tip: Always interview with multiple companies at once—this gives you leverage and prevents desperation.

Most people don’t get paid what they’re worth because they don’t ask.

The biggest salary mistake isn’t over-negotiating—it’s accepting the first offer.

Know your value, state your case, and let them make it worth your time.

Because trust me, if you don’t negotiate, you’re leaving money on the table.

Hope this helps.

CareerThe Power Of Keywords: How To Optimize Your Resume For Applicant Tracking System by Thewritingbeing(op): 2:07pm On Nov 16, 2023
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) have become a mainstay in the world of job hunting,
but despite their omnipresence, many job seekers are still in the dark about how to work with these powerful tools.

If you've been feeling like the odds are stacked against you, keep reading—because today we're digging deep into the world of ATS and revealing the secrets that can help your resume sparkle in the eyes of these virtual gatekeepers.

What are Applicant Tracking Systems?

Before we dive into the ins and outs of optimizing your resume, let's lay the foundation by exploring what exactly ATS are.

Essentially, Applicant Tracking Systems are software tools utilized by recruiters and companies to manage, sort, and filter the sea of resumes received during the hiring process.

These systems are designed to eliminate unqualified candidates while highlighting those with the desired skills and experiences.

Why Keywords Matter

Nailing the right keywords is key to making your resume stand out in the ATS. Recruiters and hiring managers use various industry-specific keywords and phrases to search for profiles that match the job criteria. When your resume is rich with the right terms, it's more likely to breeze through the initial ATS screening and land in the hands of a human reviewer.

Optimizing Your Resume: The Keyword Checklist

Ready to revamp your resume for maximum ATS impact? Here are five crucial tips to keep in mind:

1. Job description analysis:
Carefully review the job description and identify vital keywords, skills, and qualifications.
Customize your resume accordingly, ensuring these terms appear organically throughout your text.

2. Employ industry jargon:
Stay up to date with the language and terms commonly used in your field.
Showcase your expertise by incorporating these words in your resume.

3. Opt for standard resume headings:
Stick to widely recognized headings like "Summary," "Education," "Experience," and "Skills." ATS can have trouble deciphering unconventional headings, so clarity is key.

4. Go beyond the obvious:
Don’t be limited to just the skills mentioned in the job description.
Find synonyms and variations of the expected keywords to catch the eye of the ATS.

5. Mix hard and soft skills:
A recipe for success is combining hard (technical) and soft (interpersonal) skills in your resume.
This demonstrates your versatility as a candidate—a highly coveted trait in today's job market.

Following these tips will maximize your chances of passing the ATS screening process and getting one step closer to your dream job. Remember, mastering the art of resume optimization greatly increases the odds in your favor.
Jobs/VacanciesMaster Your Job Hunt: Essential Guide To Avoiding Top 5 Resume Mistakes by Thewritingbeing(op): 1:40am On Nov 16, 2023
So, you've been on the hunt for jobs, sending out resumes left and right, but there's not a peep on the other end?
Sound familiar?
Don't lose hope just yet!
Your resume might be the sneaky little thing standing in your way.
We're here to shine a spotlight on the top five resume hurdles tripping you up and, more importantly, how to jump them like a pro.

Mistake 1: Starting Off With a "Want" List - Not a "Got" List

Ditch the outdated objective. An objective only talks about what you hope to gain, but why should a company be interested in that?
They want to know what you'll bring to their team. Take your objective and transform it into a professional summary - an exciting glimpse into your skills, experience, and achievements. Give them a teaser of what you've got to offer.

Mistake 2: Turning it Into an Autobiography

Remember, less can be more on your resume.
This isn't your personal diary or an exhaustive catalogue of every job you've ever had.

What you're selling here is you - your skills and your experience for the job at hand.
Be picky. Include only the experiences relevant to the job you're applying for.

Keep it sleek, keep it relevant, and resist the urge to cram everything in.

Mistake 3: Thinking One Size Fits All
Mass mailing a generic resume? Nope, that's not going to cut it.
Avoid being just another face in the crowd.

Every job is unique, and your resume should reflect that.
Tailor, spotlight, and mesmerize. Adjust your skills and experiences to match the job description.

It'll take some more effort, but the results will speak for themselves.

Mistake 4: Just Doing the Job Vs. Crushing the Job

Are you just checking off boxes or are you reaching for the stars?
There's a difference between managing tasks and achieving goals.

Don't just rattle off your duties, spotlight your accomplishments.

Invigorate your resume. Make it come alive.
Translate your victories into solid numbers and show how you made a real difference at your previous jobs.

Mistake 5: Neglecting the Art of Presentation

Here's the scoop. A resume isn't just a flat, boring document.
There's a balance between content and design. Lose one, and you're skidding off track.

Spruce up your resume by focusing on readability. Say no to huge, daunting blocks of text.
Pick clean, professional fonts, use bullet points, and leave enough breathing space. The end game?

A stunning, easy-on-the-eyes resume that doesn't make a hiring manager's eyes glaze over.

Enough said it's go time.
These resume stumbles are likely more common than you might think, but now that you're armed with these tips, you're well on your way to standing out from the crowd.

Need a hand? Got questions? Don't be a stranger.
Send me a WhatsApp message at +234 810 125 9787.

Let's get you across the finish line - to that job you've been dreaming of.

Remember, the very act of reaching out is the first step to unlocking your full potential.

Jobs/VacanciesHow To Get Jobs As A Freelancer In Nigeria by Thewritingbeing(op): 3:35am On Oct 18, 2023
For freelancers, landing the perfect gig can sometimes feel like hunting for a needle in a haystack.

The freelancing world is packed with competition, misleading opportunities, and seemingly endless applications.

But fret not, because we've got a lifeline for freelancers. Just like Oxford University's approach to filtering applications, there are three essential steps that can transform your freelancing game:

Step 1: Define Your Niche 🎯
Start by being ultra-specific about your freelancing niche. Don't cast too wide a net; instead, hone in on your expertise and target clients looking for precisely what you offer. This prevents you from drowning in irrelevant job postings.

Step 2: Craft Winning Proposals 📝
Your freelancing pitch isn't just a document; it's your first impression. Create proposals that showcase not only your skills but also your personality and enthusiasm for the project. Let clients see the human behind the screen.

Step 3: Embrace Unconventional Opportunities 🃏
Sometimes, the most exciting freelance gigs don't fit the conventional mold.

Be open to unique projects and clients; they can be your ticket to innovation and growth, even if they're not what you expected.

So, there you have it—the secret sauce to making your freelancing journey a lot smoother and more successful. It's time to snag those dream freelance gigs!

NYSCHow To Avoid Post Nysc Depression Before You Pass Out As A Corper by Thewritingbeing(op): 3:28am On Oct 18, 2023
I made mention of POST NYSC DEPRESSION yesterday and many people asked to know about it.

I’m in BATCH C, stream 2 and I’d be passing out in less than four weeks, so I don’t have a first hand experience of this.

But, it’s a phenomenon I have learnt about from Corpers who have passed out and I just think it’s a phase every corper must prepare for, the earlier you start the better

So what is it about exactly?

It’s the phase after your service year where you start to get depressed because life isn’t going as planned, no more monthly allowee and no job to show for it.

You start to feel scared and uncertain about life and this is how to prepare for your post NYSC days so that you don’t get into depression after or even feel confused.

1. Leverage on the connections of other corpers, make enough friends, relate with people. It’s not the time to start being reserved or to show underestimating people..Connect!

2. Be your best self and submit yourselves to recommended trainings, take courses, leverage on the discounts, connect with instructors that bring offers to your table and don’t stop learning.

[I have taken over 5 courses since I started service last year and trust me I’ve even had to turn down job offers already, guess what? I am still a corper…]

3. Be good at your PPA if you are, you get the chance to be retained and evade the whole job hunting process that most ex-corpers go through.

So, don’t just be unserious, network with your boss, serve and build yourself and network as you do so.

4. Save!!! Don’t burn your allowee like a fool.
NYSC will not pay you forever, save some part of your allowance, invest in yourself also with the cash if you can and learn digital skill and then invest in stocks, real estate and just prepare to build wealth gradually.

See…
It’s not going to be easy but it’s going to be worth it because you’d enjoy the benefits.

Feel free to share your thoughts and questions in the comments.

Hope this helps you.

BusinessRemote Jobs For People With No Experience: How To Get Started With Online Work by Thewritingbeing(op): 1:10pm On Jan 19, 2023
Remote work is on the rise, and the trend shows no signs of slowing down. With the advent of technology, more and more companies are realizing the benefits of allowing their employees to work from home. This has opened up a plethora of opportunities for people looking to make a living online, even if they have no prior experience.

If you're new to the world of remote work, it can be overwhelming trying to figure out where to start. But don't worry, there are plenty of entry-level remote jobs available that don't require any prior experience. In this blog post, we'll be discussing some of the best ways to get started with online work, even if you're a complete novice.

1. Data Entry: Data entry is one of the most basic and entry-level remote jobs out there. It involves inputting data into a computer system or database and can be done from anywhere. Many companies are willing to hire people with no experience as long as they have good typing skills and attention to detail.

2. Virtual Assistant: A virtual assistant is a remote worker who provides administrative support to a business or individual. This can include tasks such as scheduling appointments, making travel arrangements, and managing emails. No experience is required for this role, and it's a great way to learn about different aspects of online work.

3. Online Tutoring: If you have expertise in a particular subject, you can make money by tutoring students online. Platforms like VIPKid and iTutorGroup connect tutors with students looking for extra help. You don't need to be a certified teacher to apply, but you will need to pass a background check and have a stable internet connection.

4. Social Media Management: Many businesses are looking for people to manage their social media accounts. This can include creating content, scheduling posts, and engaging with followers. While prior experience in social media management is a plus, it's not always necessary. If you're active on social media and have a good understanding of how it works, you can apply for these jobs.

5. Online Surveys: Many research companies are looking for people to take online surveys and provide feedback on products and services. This is a simple and easy way to make money online, and no experience is required.

6. Freelancing: If you have a particular skill, such as writing, graphic design, or programming, you can earn money by freelancing. Platforms like Upwork, Fiverr, and Freelancer.com allow you to connect with clients looking for specific services. While it's not a job, it's a good way to get started with online work and build your portfolio.

In conclusion, even if you have no experience with remote jobs, there are plenty of opportunities out there for you to get started. Whether you're looking to earn a little extra money or make a full-time income, there's something for everyone. With a little bit of effort and determination, you can find the perfect online job for you and start working from the comfort of your own home.

To become a freelancer, there are a few steps you can follow:

Determine your area of expertise: Before you can start freelancing, it is important to determine what skills or services you can offer. This may involve assessing your strengths and interests, as well as researching the needs of potential clients.

Build a portfolio: A portfolio is a collection of your work that showcases your skills and experience. This can include writing samples, design work, or other relevant projects. Having a strong portfolio can help you attract clients and demonstrate your capabilities.

Set up a website: Having a professional website is essential for freelancers. Your website should include information about your services, your portfolio, and contact information. It can also be helpful to include a pricing page or a list of frequently asked questions.

Market yourself: Once you have your website set up, it is important to market yourself and your services to potential clients. This can involve networking, reaching out to potential clients, and using social media and other online platforms to promote your business.

Learn about contracts and invoicing: As a freelancer, you will be responsible for managing your own contracts and invoicing. It is important to familiarize yourself with these aspects of freelancing to ensure that you are paid on time and that you are protected legally.

By following these steps, you can start your journey to becoming a successful freelancer. It may take some time and effort, but with dedication and perseverance, you can build a successful freelance career.

A career in freelancing can be a rewarding and fulfilling way to work because it allows you to be your own boss and choose your own projects and clients. However, it is critical to understand the potential challenges and demands of freelancing, as it can be difficult to secure consistent work and you may need to put in extra effort to market yourself and find new clients.

Here are a few things to think about when deciding whether or not to pursue a freelance career:

Are you self-motivated and capable of effectively managing your own time? Freelancers are responsible for managing their own schedules and completing their work on time, so the ability to work independently and stay organized is essential.

Do you have a special talent or skill that you can offer as a freelancer? A specific skill or area of expertise can help you stand out in the competitive world of freelancing and increase your chances of finding work.

Are you okay with the possibility of fluctuating income? Freelancers may experience periods of high workload followed by periods of low workload. It is critical to be prepared for this and to have a financial management plan in place.

Do you have a solid support system? Freelancers may not have the same level of support as employees in traditional jobs, so having a strong network of family, friends, and colleagues who can offer support and assistance when needed is essential.

Overall, whether a freelance career is worthwhile depends on your personal circumstances and goals. It can be a rewarding and fulfilling way to work, but you should be aware of the potential challenges and demands of this type of job.
