In this generation, there are many people hell bent on tearing down every institution built by our ancestors regarding their ways are archaic therefore ineffective. Let us critically look at the ways our ancestors lived in respect to the times they lived in, "Survival of the fittest" is a phrase that originated from Darwinian evolutionary theory as a way of describing the mechanism of natural selection, Simply the strongest will survive and the weakest will die, we often use that phrase now but the fact is that in recent years, we've built a society where the weakest amongst us don't just get to live but they're even role models to the younger generations directly or indirectly encouraging them to aim low, any show of strength is tagged as toxic behaviour and shunned, the emasculation of men and the simultaneous exaltation of weakness is a topic for another time. A quick google search on the predators of early humans and you'll quicky realise the past wasn't a pleasant place for our ancestors but we are alive now which obviously means they somehow stayed alive which shows they did something that worked, because back then, one wrong move will most likely result in you being dinner for cave bear and many of our ancestors actually died. Now with scientific methods we can test out scenarios without always having to sacrifice another's life but then ancestor A and his family did something and got eaten by hynenas and the rest of the troop are like maybe we shouldn't do that going forward, your fellow human was the lab rat and your eyes had to be open all the time, and that is just on the predation front, infectious diseases, food shortages, accidents were also concerns. but they somehow survived, on an altar drenched with blood of families and friends they survived, through long, dreadful nights and equally scary days they survived. Are there things that needs to be changed or modified? oh yes for sure(the abolishing of slavery is great idea), let that be the discussion, not total destruction of something that serves a purpose, let's not assume that our ancestors were unwise because they've survived times that majority of us could never survive and their bones and blood lie at the foundation of civilization. So kid maybe listen when your Father speaks and Father give your kid some room because maybe he can generate some better version of what we already have. This is a foundation for the topic I'll post next week Saturday hopefully. What are those things you think worked and still works and those things you think should completely be cast aside ? |
Fairview1:I agree with you that the truth is in most situations bitter. Are you familiar with the story of Abraham the first commenter quoted, what is your opinion on it? |
Nonexisting1:Vaginarian? Okay? At least you don't get into relationships with women based on a lie. |
Kollins11:With this Logic you can make the vilest things seem reasonable. Can you give the scripture from the bible where God told Abraham to lie, i've seen the instances where he lied about his wife being his sister and even God was going to punish the victims of Abraham's lies, again not everything is simple to understand, also who's to say Abraham didn't go through some punishment later in his life as a result of those lies he told. |
Is lying really a bad thing? What does it mean to tell a lie? To intentionally tell a false statement, to deceive, to attempt to bend reality for your benefit whether to gain something or to escape difficulty. With a definition like this why isn't it okay to tell a lie all the time or at least most of the time and avoid every discomfort or even severe punishment that might come with telling the truth? The goal when you lie is to benefit from or avoid something, so there's an underlying belief that you know what's best for you, really? you're 100% sure you know what's best for you and that you are acting in your best interest, and no, not for you presently alone but for you 2 years or 5 years from now, Wouldn't we agree that living with your future self's best interest in mind is a reasonable way to live? that's the secret behind sacrifice. No one sensible trusts a known liar yes even if that liar is yourself, we as humans don't know why we do most of the things we do, that's a reason for our regret sometimes, you act out of impulse and pause and try to figure out why you acted that way, there's reasons not to trust yourself already (and hopefully you don't naively believe you are inherently good because you are not!) adding lies to it doesn't seem to help in anyway. have you ever wondered why we intentionally engage in activities that we know will inevitably destroy us? maybe it is because of our lack of self control but we can't say knowing who we are(our imperfections and a natural desire to do evil ) has nothing to do with it, maybe while we engage in those destructive acts we subconciously believe we deserve it, maybe when we mess with truthful speech that a society that works, a healthy relationship whether romantic, family or friendships thrives and depends on, we convince ourselves that we deserve the avoidable pain unhealthy and careless living will bring. It will be fraudulent to not acknowledge dire situations where a lie might save your life but it would be dishonest to say only in such situations are majority of lies told. Again is lying really a bad thing and why do you think so? Which situations have you lied, gotten away with it and then later regretted lying? or maybe you don't regret it. comment down below. |
