Programming › What Should Businesses Consider Before Developing A Mobile App In Dubai? by thomasshellby(op): 6:50am On Oct 21
I have been thinking about how mobile apps are becoming an important part of doing business in Dubai. From retail and real estate to healthcare, logistics, hospitality, and financial services, businesses are finding new ways to connect with customers through mobile applications.
However, I think one important question often gets overlooked: What should a business consider before investing in mobile app development?
The UAE's Dubai region boasts a highly competitive business climate. Increasing, clines look forward to having access to applications that are convenient, quick, and user friendly. Launching an applications does not guarantee success; one needs to develop an app which is practical.

This may be exemplified by a company dealing in real estate creating an application for listing properties. While initially, its major features would comprise property search and property images and contact information, later on, upon analysis of customer requirements, such features like virtual tour of the property, scheduling of appointments, mortgage calculator and immediate alerts regarding new listings may also be found desirable by users.

One other aspect to consider is selecting the appropriate technology. Is the firm going to make a native Android application, native iOS application, or go with a cross-platform approach? It will depend on the target customers, budget, features, performance expectations, and long-term maintenance. Firms must not select a technology just because it is popular. It has to serve their actual purposes.

The same applies for budget considerations. The cost of developing the app is not the whole budgeting process. There is the cost of the user experience and UI design, back end development, testing, security, integration, publishing in the app stores, and maintenance. Appropriate budgeting prevents scenarios whereby development begins with zeal, but halfway through, certain factors become apparent.

I also believe that user experience deserves more attention than it often receives. An application can have impressive feature, but if users struggle to navigate it, they may quickly abandon it. Simple navigation, fast loading, clear instructions, and reliable performance can be more valuable than adding dozens of unnecessary features.

For businesses exploring mobile app development in Dubai, finding the right development partner is another major decision. It helps to review previous projects, technical capabilities, communication processes, and the team's approach to post-launch support. Companies such as Burj Code are worth exploring when researching development partners, but businesses should evaluate potential providers according to their specific project requirements rather than making a decision based on a company name alone.

In my view, one good way to start would be to develop the MVP. Rather than spending money and effort on all features of the product, one can focus on developing a minimum viable product, receive feedback and improve the product accordingly.

I would like to hear other people's experiences with this.

For individuals who have either created an app or contracted one in Dubai, which was the hardest part of the entire project: identifying the correct developer team, managing the finances, deciding on the features, or gaining users after launch?

What should business owners consider first when they plan to develop an app for the first time?
