So i ve being wondering as an igbo man why does ndigbo as a whole, pay homage or respect to the erstwile president of biafra warlord, Dim chukwuemeka odumegwu ojukwu rather than the former ceremonial president of nigeria, Dr nnamdi azikiwe.... And again,Is it because dr nnamdi azikiwe belief so much in one nigeria and never met the needs of the southeatern nigeria?

Human right activists can go to hell for all I care. collateral damage is inevitable in war.
In war all is Fair and square, after all that's what gowon & Nigeria told the southeastners after the blockade that kill millions of civilians.
North should relax, even if entire bono population will be sacrificed for peace to rain, so be. |

ola6: The SE is more densely populated than the North, SW and SS. The key word here is DENSELY not MORE as there is no evidence to prove for or otherwise. This makes competition stiff compare to other regions. It is natural for any densely populated area to be highly competitive. This makes the people of the region individualistic rather than cooperative. Hence, there are a lot of stalls and shops. No really mega business, at least, not that I have noticed sha except Shoprite in Enugu. In a bid to survive the competition, the people live their various states for a less populated state (less competitive), hence, their population in Lagos, Warri, PHC, Kano etc.
One thing also going for the cities mentioned is the FG presence. It cannot be over emphasized. The FG presence in Lagos built a sea port and THRID mainland bridge, necessary for economic growth. Also in Warri, the refinery, sea port, Chevron Nigeria (a combination of NNPC FG and Chevron) Shell et al. PHC same thing. Kano, though, I have not being there but I am almost certain there is FG presence there.
The FG presence in the SE has been minimal tbh and unless something is done fast, I'm afraid. Not just any FG presence like a river port or that thing they built on River Niger ( it really was a wasted investment) but a unique FG infrastructure that will make people leave their various states or the SE. Maybe an Institute of Technology or Public administration, that will make people travel down to stay at least for 4 years or so like the one in PHC (IPS) or the one in Onne (marine institute or whatever).
Also, the issue of tax cannot be ignored. One thing about APC states is that they tax like crazy, hence their spike in IGR. Nice input |

Lovely & insightful discussion, but I will implore u guys to stop responding to superstar, if u don't want the thread derailed. U don't argue with someone who's innately ignorant, a local champion who for once have not travel beyond Usun boundary.
Most of them who has not travel beyond southwest believe that with high number of igbos in their region that southeast is deserted & emty, meanwhile ignorant of the fact that southeast is the most densely populated region in Nigeria. |

Politics › Re: Reasons Why Muslims Have Always Been Lagos Governor- Tell Me. by thwarrior72: 8:41pm On Aug 26, 2014 |
99cent: In Nigerian Christianity, high rank and success is measured by how western you are ex. impeccable English, flashy cars and clothes, high western education and professional jobs etc. Where as in Islam, community leaders are more respected and valued rather than how flashy your car is.
In a christian church like RCCG, winners chapel etc, you will not be congratulated for being the local government chairman or a local politician. instead, the most respected persons in lagos churches are doctors, lawyers, federal officials etc.
In mosques on the other hand, local politicians are more valued. If you go to a mosque, the most respected members there are local govt chairpersons, local businessmen and women, mayor, community leaders etc.
so muslims are more motivated/ incentivized to involve themselves in local politics than christians. if a christian did it, he might be accused of being illiterate or too local.
I know this because my uncle (christian) is a local politician and he is more respected by his muslim friends. most of his christian friends do not give him the same respect. they value more professional, western style successes. like doctors and lawyers. the only exception to this are churches like Celestial church/ cherubim and seraphim etc. they have similar attitude in terms of respect for "local-ness" as muslims.
in pentecostal churches, u will be respected for not knowing how to speak ur native language or for wearing western clothes exclusively. where as in islam, that will be shameful. U are not totally right!! To me Islamic religion is more of political ideology than a mare religion, unlike Christianity, were the faith is distinct & totally separated from politics or government. |

Nigerians always enjoy blaming others for their own failures! Kogi state has an extremely inept leadership, which seems satisfied in maintaining the status quo than making positive change. Lokoja, Kabba, Ajaokuta, Itakpe, Obajana, and Odagbo are all in Kogi state. Yet, Kogi is one of the poorest states in Nigeria. Is this state cursed or its just bad leadership? I personally think it's nothing shot of both. Its really unfortunate! It is simple, Kogi people fail to detach themselves from the grip of core north, who sees them as a subject/minority that must not be allowed to live to they full potentials. It's very unfortunate, unptil now kogians & benuans have not realise that they are distinct people from the core north, & should pursue they dream & self determination. |
