The Presidential Committee investigating suspended Secretary to the Government of the General of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, and the Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayo Oke, is set to round up its assignment and submit its report to President Muhammadu Buhari tomorrow (Wednesday).
The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, who is a member of the committee headed by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo, dropped the hint on Tuesday while speaking to State House correspondents after he met with Buhari at the State House, Abuja. The Minister declined to reveal if the report would be shielded from the public on grounds of national security as suggested by some prominent Nigerians.
He said it would be “it will be preemptive” for him to reveal such, besides the fact the report is a collective effort that will be presented to Buhari who has the final say on it. Aside Osinbajo and Malami, the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, is also a member of the three-man committee Buhari raised on April 19, 2017 with a 14-day deadline to turn in a report. Lawal came under investigated for allegedly breaching due process and enabling grass cutting contract awards of the Presidential Initiative on the North East (PINE) to his companies, while Oke was quizzed to explain the $43 million he claimed belonged to the NIA but were recently found by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a posh private residence in Ikoyi, Lagos.

Politics › Crisis Looms In Senate Over Recs, CBN Board Members’ Screening by timizitowei(op): 11:33am On May 02, 2017 |
According to a Vanguard report, strong indications have emerged that the Senate has run into confusion over recent requests by the Presidency for confirmation of Board members of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, and the Resident Electoral Commissioners, RECs. Senators, who spoke, yesterday, on condition of anonymity, said the Upper Chamber had taken comments from the Presidency about its interpretation of Section 171 of the 1999 Constitution very seriously.
Media reports in recent times have quoted the Presidency as having agreed with the submission of some lawyers that Section 171 empowered the President to name heads of extra-ministerial bodies without recourse to the Senate. This would form the focus of debates and discussions at plenary this week when issues relating to the screening of nominees sent to the Senate by President Muhamamdu Buhari would come up.
Following the submission of 27 nominees by the President as Resident Electoral Commissioners of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Senate had on March 28, 2017, suspended the consideration of the nominees for two weeks. Also recall that the Presidency and lawyers have used section 171 to justify the likely appointment of acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, without Senate screening.
But sources in the Senate said the position of the lawyers and the Presidency has thrown up a constitutional crisis which further suggested that previous governments, including that of President Olusegun Obasanjo, the late Umaru Yar’Adua, and Goodluck Jonathan might have acted against the law, if the position of the present Presidency was right. President Buhari had last week, forwarded to the Senate five nominees for confirmation as Non- Executive Directors of the Board of Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
The nominees would represent five of the six geo- political zones of the country, including Professor Umar Ahmed Jalingo, representing North East; Professor Justitia Odinakachukwu Nnabuko, South East; Professor Mike I. Obadan, South South; Dr. Abdul Abubakar North West and Adeola Adetunji, South West.

Crime › Seven Suspected Hackers Arrested – JAMB by timizitowei(op): 11:14am On May 02, 2017 |
SOURCE: http://www.thekalabaris.com/2017/05/02/seven-suspected-hackers-arrested-jamb/
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board said on Monday that seven persons had been arrested for attempting to hack into the Virtual Private Network of the board.
The organisation’s Head of Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, who disclosed this in an interview, said while the board was ready for the forthcoming examination, operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services would fish out other members of the syndicate behind the hacking.
The PUNCH had reported that the syndicate got N20m from the deal to hack the JAMB VPN and a suspect, said to be the proprietor of one Bright Technologies and nabbed by the NSCDC, claimed that he got N600,000 as a share.
Benjamin noted that the seven suspects were arrested from Ogun, Oyo, Lagos and Abia states.
He said, “That dubious act has been on for some time now. The one reported from the NSCDC was one of the arrests made recently. The men made over N20m from the deal. At present, there are altogether seven suspects in the custody.
“Apart from the efforts by the NSCDC, we at JAMB from our investigations have also blocked all the platforms that the syndicate was using to penetrate our VPN.
“That is what we have done. We have routers which are location-based, but the syndicate goes through our routers and wants to expand the areas of coverage so that they can bring a lot of cyber cafes.
“You know we do not use cyber cafes. But the syndicate wants to bring in the cafes and make a lot of money from them. On the preparation for JAMB, we are good to go. The mock examination conducted attests to this fact. You will recall that over 1.5million candidates are now registered.”

The suspect is said to have already confessed to the police that he is the man behind the murder of Soboma George, a top commander of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, in 2010.
Gorilla was declared wanted when cases of kidnap of medical practitioners especially doctors and pharmacists became rampant in the Niger Delta region.

Others are Saheed Adekunle, Hillary Wogu, Ogbungbada Chima, Lucky Gospel Marako, Dokubo Victor Ipalibo, Okwudili Pascal and Candy Ndubuisi Nwankwo.

Celebrities › My Stand On Nnamdi Kanu, Biafra – Charlyboy by timizitowei(op): 5:04pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
LATEST NEWS ON BIAFRA ACTIVITIES AND THE NIGER DELTA REGION @ http://www.thekalabaris.com
Acclaimed AreaFada also known as Charlyboy has reiterated his position on the detention of the leader of the Indigenous People of Bisfra, IPOB, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu as well as his stance on the Biafra agitation.
Charlyboy was recently pictured in the court with Kanu who has spent almost two years in Kuje prison over allegations bothering on treasonable felony.
Though the social engineer as he is fondly called pointed out that he is never in support of a country called Biafra, he said he remains a Biafran in heart.
In a post he entitled, “My take on Nnamdi Kanu, AreaFada said his reason for visiting Kanu was to express his pain over Kanu’s prolonged incarceration.
He wrote, “I am aware that my recent picture with Nnamdi Kanu at Federal High Court, Abuja, has generated a lot of reactions and comments; some witty, others dim-witted, not that I blame them though. I am also aware that the picture has encouraged a vast number of people to take a decisive position on whether or not Biafra is the right cause.
“Even more, I am aware that the picture has left many people confused and skeptical of reports that I am now supporting Biafra. Na wa. I would like to say for the umpteenth time, that, I am Not in support and will never be in support of a country to be called Biafra. However, I am a Biafran in my heart, period.
“My reason, however, for visiting Nnamdi Kanu in court, was to make my discontent and disillusionment on his prolonged incarceration known to the federal government who have kept him behind bars for too long. If the government have issues with Nnamdi Kanu, let them charge him to court and let the rule of law decide. For whatsoever reason, no man deserves to be ill-treated in his fatherland as Nnamdi Kanu is being treated. Hence, the need for my interference in the ever-growing call for his release.
“I stand for equal rights and justice, period. Advocating for the okada community does not make me an okada rider. Advocating for gay rights does not make me a Gay. So, asking for Nnamdi’s release does not make me a Biafran supporter. Lai Lai!
“Some time in January 2017, I wrote about my thoughts on the Biafra agitation and how I do not consider it a feasible adventure especially when there are so many important things my Ibo kindred can alternatively dedicate their all to. I titled the article “The illusion called Biafra”, those who haven’t read it should read it up because what I wrote therein will always be my stance on Biafra.

Politics › Biafra: FG Violating Freedom Of Nigerians By Insisting On Nnamdi Kanu’s Trial by timizitowei(op): 4:44pm On Apr 20, 2017 |
LATEST NEWS ON BIAFRA @ http://www.thekalabaris.com
A Civil Society group, Concerned Nigerians, has said the ruling of an Abuja Federal High Court to conduct a secret trial for the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, is not in the interest of Nigeria’s national security.
The group maintained that the secret trial of the IPOB leader will violate the “rights and freedoms of the Nigerian people.”
The group made the statement while announcing its planned protest against the secret trial of Kanu on Friday in Abuja.
In a statement signed by the convener of the group, Deji Adeyanju and its Secretary, Dr. John Danfulani, the group disclosed that the march will begin at the Unity Fountain, Abuja at about 9am.
The statement reads, “We invite the general public and members of the press to our peaceful procession to protest the attempts to conduct the trial of detained Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, in secret. The procession will begin at the Unity Fountain on Friday April 21st, 2017 by 0900am.
“This procession has become necessary in the light of the FGN’s continued insistence to conduct the trial in secret. It is our firm belief that a secret trial in such a high profile matter does not serve the interests of the course of justice or Nigeria’s national security interests.
“Furthermore, Sections 36(3) and 36(6)(d) guarantee the right to a public trial and to examine all witnesses called by the prosecution to all Nigerians citizens.
“These attempts to try Nnamdi Kanu in secret not only potentially violate these rights but also constitute a precursor to the erosion of the rights and freedoms of the Nigerian people.
“In the build up to this procession, we have held a meeting with a security team comprising the State Security Services (SSS), the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Abuja Command of the Nigerian Police Force and representatives of the Nigerian Army.
“During this meeting, we reiterated our intention to conduct a peaceful procession in the manner of all our previous processions. We also reiterated our intention to exercise our right to peaceful and lawful assembly as guaranteed by the Constitution.
“We are well aware of the subtle and not so subtle threats made at this meeting. However, we refuse to be intimidated by them. In this wise, our protest will go on as planned.
“We urge all Nigerians who plan to attend to be peaceful and law abiding during the procession.
Recall that the Justice Binta Nyako-led Court had fixed April 25 to deliver ruling on whether to continue with its earlier ruling of Kanu being tried in secret or not.
Kanu alongside Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi are currently standing trial on criminal charges before the Justice Nyako-led court.

Politics › PDP Is Frustrated – APC by timizitowei(op): 1:40pm On Apr 19, 2017 |
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State, yesterday, frowned at a recent statement attributed to the state chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Dan Orbih, where he had allegedly accused the immediate past governor of the state, Mr Adams Oshiomhole, of tagging the verdict of the state governorship election tribunal as ”Mama Akara judgment.” The state chairman of the APC, Mr. Anslem Ojezua, who reacted to PDP’s statement said Orbih made the claim out of frustration after his party’s defeat at the tribunal. “Out of frustration, the PDP even misquoted Oshiomhole. He never said that the judgment was Mama Akara judgment. He said PDP’s petition was Mama Akara petition. But I can understand their frustration right now because they don’t even want to look at the law. “Neither Orbih, Osagie Ize-iyamu, the PDP nor any of their witnesses has been able to tell us exactly where the alleged over voting took place. They don’t even know the definition of ‘Accreditation’ and ‘Over voting’ as provided by the relevant law. Worse still, they are not even prepared to learn. They want ‘free akara’. Is there free lunch in Freetown? No way. “I expect the PDP to learn from their mistakes and go back to the drawing board and pose as credible opposition to APC and not to blame the judiciary for their woes. In the first place, we know that the PDP has no case because this was an election conducted very calmly, people voted and results were declared. “The people of Edo State have rejected them since they understood that their kind of politics is share the money. The APC government is working for the people and that was why they voted for Obaseki and APC.” Recall that Governor Godwin Obaseki’s election, was five days ago upheld by the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, that sat in Benin. Justice Ahmed Badamosi dismissed petition filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, declaring that it lacked merit. Mr. Azala was accused of raping the girl at No. 6, Agho Street, off Textile Mill road, Benin, on April 9, 2017. According to the prosecutor, Ben Omoruyi, the accused is a friend to the victim’s father, who is bed- ridden, and always comes to the house on the pretence of seeing his friend. Mr. Omoruyi told the court that the accused had raped the girl “several times before he was caught in the act.” He also said the accused always lured the girl with N20, to have his way. When his plea was taken, Mr. Azala, however, pleaded not guilty. The accused said he only embraced the girl and had never had sex with her. “I did no such thing as having canal knowledge of her, I embrace her only on five occasions, and I also released on those occasions. “I’m only been lied against by her mother because we had a misunderstanding. Politics › Seized N13 Billion Causes More Trouble: Amaechi To Sue Fayose’s Aide by timizitowei(op): 1:48pm On Apr 18, 2017 |
The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has commenced moves to sue a former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, and Lere Olayinka, a spokesman of the Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, for their accusation that he was the owner of the N13 billion cash found in an apartment in Ikoyi, Lagos State last week. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission had on Wednesday discovered $43 million, £27,800 and N23.2 million in an apartment, with the ownership yet to be unveiled as at press time. Fani-Kayode and Olayinka had on their Twitter handles linked Amaechi to the funds, saying he owns the apartment. But Amaechi, through his lawyer, Lateef Fagbemi, disputed the allegation, saying it amounted to defamation. In a letter to Fani-Kayode, the lawyer wrote: “The attention of our client has been drawn to your tweet posted on your Twitter timeline (@realFFK) where you claimed that: “The $43 million is Rotimi Amaechi’s. He owns the flat it was found in too (sic). NIA story is fake news! NIA does not keep cash in Minister’s flats.” Fagbemi said the allegation was blatantly false, malicious and aimed at denigrating Amaechi. He added: “Our client neither owns the cash nor the house where the cash was found and your story and claim are unfounded. “As a matter of fact, our client does not own any house in Lagos State not to talk of keeping cash in one and your story is preposterous.” Amaechi thus demanded apology from Fani-Kayode within seven days or face legal action. In addition to this, Fani-Kayode is also expected to publish his retraction in five national dailies and pay a compensation of N500 million to Amaechi. For Olayinka, the lawyer equally said there was no truth in his allegation. Olayinka’s claim that Amaechi rented the apartment opposite where the money was found for the owner of EbonyLife TV, Mo Abudu, was also disputed. Abudu had equally denied the allegation, with her lawyer threatening to also sue. Fagbemi told Olayinka to apologize, retract the allegation and pay a compensation of N750 million to Amaechi to avoid further backlash. Responding through his Special Assistant on Media, Jude Ndukwe, Fani-Kayode said: “We have been inundated with calls concerning about a threat by Rotimi Amaechi to sue Chief Fani-Kayode for defamation over the 43 million USD issue. We are not any sleep over this matter. We have not received any court processes or letters from Ameachi but when we do so our lawyers will respond vigorously and appropriately. Thank you.” SOURCE : http://www.thekalabaris.com/2017/04/18/seized-n13-billion-causes-more-trouble-amaechi-to-sue-fayoses-aide-and-1-other-for-n1-250-billion/ |

SOURCE: http://www.thekalabaris.com/2017/04/18/apc-responsible-for-nigerians-suffering-pdp/The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Sokoto State has said the “poor performance” of the All Progressives Congress, APC, at all levels of government is responsible for Nigerians’ suffering, and that the party is an opposition to itself. Speaking through the party’s state Secretary, Alhaji Kabiru Aliyu, yesterday, PDP described the current fracas between the Presidency and the Senate as an act of immaturity perpetrated by a bunch of people who had no positive feelings for the people they govern. According to PDP, “should the Senate and the Presidency be insensitive to the plight of the people and continue with the selfish fight among themselves? This is an act of immaturity. They do not have the people at heart. “We expected the leadership of APC to take control of their ego by maintaining a smooth relationship between all arms of government, especially the legislature and the executive. The failure of the party to ensure this means that it is not in control. It has become a divided party. “Nigerians are disillusioned by the poor performance of the APC administration across all levels of governments. “People are suffering and in spite of the hope and trust that they had on this administration, they have been betrayed. Nothing has changed.” SOURCE: http://www.thekalabaris.com/2017/04/18/apc-responsible-for-nigerians-suffering-pdp/ |

Politics › You Are Insane, Nigerians Voted Jonathan Out - Presidency Blasts Reno Omokiri by timizitowei(op): 12:33pm On Apr 12, 2017 |

The Presidency has lashed out at former Aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan Reno Omokri for saying that non-Nigerians voted President Muhammadu Buhari into power in 2015.
Reports earlier said that Omokri had in a Facebook post, said Buhari used foreign Almajiris in the 2015 election to vote Jonathan out.
However, President Muhammadu Buhari’s Media Aide, Lauretta Onochi in her reaction to the claim lashed at Omokri describing him as insane.
According to Onochi, Nigerians voted out Jonathan due to his incompetence.
In a response she shared on her twitter handle, @Lauresta, Onochi wrote, “Your insanity is acclaimed but don’t insult Nigerians.
“Nigerians went to the poll in a historic election and voted out boss for reasons known to the whole world: inefficiency, buffoonery.
“You had thought that watching while Boko Haram was on rampage would decimate the population of the north east and give you victory. You failed
“Nigerians had good reasons to vote against your boss who confessed that he knew those who were stealing in his government but would do nothing.
“It nothing but lunacy to ascribe to foreigners, the franchise exercised and expressed by Nigerians in 2015. Step on your brakes of lunacy.”
