practically, oil change based on millage or period are both not always correct. Let's look at lubricants generally, quality lubricants does not get spent. why they change colours or thin out is mostly because of oxidation of chemical additives used in their formulation. For me not to sound to academic, the best way know when to change your oil is to physically examine the oil, note the colour, smell, thickness, etc. Low quality oil may breakdown anytime.
