The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu has approved the suspension of the planned rally by a faction of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State to forestall any breakdown of law and order.

The Deputy Governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu disclosed this after meeting with the IGP Adamu at the Police headquarters, Abuja.

A letter from the office of the IGP in response to the application by the State Government to suspend the rally for security reasons read, “I am directed by the Inspector General of Police to convey his warmest regards and to acknowledge the receipt of Your Excellency letter ODG.134/59 of December 12, 2019, on the above-underlined subject.

“In cognisance of the security consequences of the proposed Mega the rally, I am to confirm that the Inspector General of Police has directed the Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command to emplace appropriate security framework that is directed at suspending the rally until further notice.

“He has also been directed to summon a meeting of all parties involved in the political development with a view to engaging them towards giving effect to his directives in overriding internal
security interest.

” I am to renew the assurances of the highest regards of the Inspector General of Police to Your Excellency, please.,

The letter dated December 12, was signed by ACP Idowu Owohunwa
Principal Staff Officer to the Inspector General of Police.

The Deputy Governor said that some persons want to destabilize peace that was enjoyed in the state, but maintained that the Governor Godwin Obaseki – led government will remain focused.

He alleged that “the man leading the division in the state, unfortunately, is the national Chairman of the APC,”

He, however, said that he would not join issues with the APC National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, who he described as his mentor and father.

Minister of Women Affairs, Mrs Pauline Tallen, yesterday visited the New Foundation School (NFS), Yola, Adamawa State.

She made the trip in company of the outgoing Miss Nigeria, Chidinma Aaron.

The NFS located inside the premises of the American University of Nigeria (AUN) is a special education facility for the rescued students of Chibok following the April 2014 Boko Haram abduction incident.

The minister commended the girls for their courage and resilience, adding that as their, “mother” she would continue to be there for them, anytime.

She explained that her visit was to hear from them, get an update about their welfare and know the progress of their academic and other trainings.

“The Federal Government would continue to take care of their needs as well as provide necessary materials for development”, Tallen said.

In her remarks, Aaron stressed the need for young women to continue to maintain their dignity and esteem.

“It was a great moment for me, seeing those strong women who in the past went through horrible experiences. They are real women, confident and ready to face the future,” the beauty queen said.

Meanwhile, the 2019 Miss Nigeria pageant holds this weekend. The annual event began as a photo show in 1957. Grace Oyelude won the maiden edition that year.

Nigerian youngest legislator led other lawmakers and Nollywood actresses to celebrate Asa Day Festival in Canada.

Recently, the youngest Nigerian-Canadian legislator, Uzoma Asagwara, led other lawmakers and Nollywood actresses to celebrate the 2019 Asa Day Festival in Canada.

In one some of the pictures, some of the lawmakers could be seen in Yoruba attire as the men wore what is called "sokoto and buba", while the women wore "iro and buba".

Meanwhile, it was earlier reported that Uzoma was elected into the country’s legislative seat for the New Democratic Party.

Her election was a historical mark in the country as she was the first quer black person to be elected in Manitoba.

It was also gathered that she was one of three black people in the 150-year history of the Manitoba legislative house.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Hakeem Odumosu, may have tightened up security of lives and property in Lagos following the arrest of an Anglican Church Knight, Sir Peter Uche, who led a 7-man robbery gang to invade MTN mast to steal batteries and he was arrested by Police operatives in Ejigbo.

P.M.EXPRESS reports that Sir Uche was arrested and his Toyota 4 Runner SUV was recovered with MTN batteries the gang had already stolen at about 3am on 19th November, 2019.

The operation reportedly failed when the Police at Ejigbo Division led by CSP Olabisi Okuwobi, received a distress call that robbers were operating at the site of the MTN mast.

The residents said that the Anti Robbery team were mobilised to the scene and their swift response paid off as they met the about eight ( man robbery gang in action while the security man on duty was met tied down by the robbers.

It was gathered that the robbers went to the MTN mast at Double Powerline, Ejigbo and had loaded twelve batteries into the vehicle they brought before Police stormed there.

When they sighted the Police team, they attacked to escape. But one of them, Sir Peter Uche, a self confessed dismissed soldier and Knight of St Francis of the Anglican Communion, Ojo Alaba area of Lagos, was arrested.

It was gathered that 12 of the MTN mast batteries, an iron cutter and a Toyota 4Runner SUV with Registration number SMK 662 FA, belonging to Uche were recovered from the scene as exhibits and taken to the Police Station.

According to the residents, who expressed surprise over the incident, they said that Uche, who resides at Salami Street in Ketu, Ijanikin area of Badagry, came with the gang to Ejigbo to steal the items before he was caught.

Sir Peter Uche, who hails from Orlu in Imo State, is married with three children and holds important positions in the Anglican Church before his arrest.

It was gathered that the Police were making efforts towards arresting other members of the gang and the matter may be transferred to FSARS for further investigation.

Tension was high on Wednesday at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as security operatives denied Senator Dino Melaye and others journalists from gaining entrance into its premises to submit what was taken to be “additional petition.”

It was gathered that a camera belonging to one of the Journalists was seized but later released when Melaye intervened.

Google has announced that limits will be placed on political advertising. Advertisers would no longer be able to target audience on the basis of public voter records political affiliation.

This information was disclosed by Scott Spencer – the Vice President of product management and advertising at Google – in a blog post. He stated that a ban would be placed on political advertisers from reaching targeted customers with political connections.

These advertisers can still reach their target audience on the basis of gender, postal code and age. They can also make use of contextual ads to target audiences who are engaged in related activities to their adverts. However, they cannot specify a particular location or geographical area to target.

Advertisers will still be able to target voters based on age, gender and zip code, but no more specific location targeting will be permitted. Contextual advertising, like “serving ads to people reading or watching a story about, say, the economy,” Google said, will also be permitted.

When will the new restrictions be implemented?
According to Scott Spencer, these new restrictions will be implemented globally by the 6th of January, 2020. However, it will be implemented in the United Kingdom by the end of 2019, just before the general election begins.

He stated that the reasons for this were due to recent issues arising in the aspect of political advertising. This move was to promote voters’ confidence and place the significance of shared trust in the upcoming election.

Before now, Twitter had announced via its CEO – Jack Dorsey – that all political advertising would be banned taking effect from 22nd November. Just this Friday, the company issued more limits on cause-based advertisers via its guidelines.

Google following Twitter to place limits on political advertising places more pressure on Facebook’s micro-target advertising. All political advertisers with Google are urged to comply with these new restrictions to promote responsible political advertising.
