The Olu of Warri, Ogiame Ikenwoli, on Thursday, pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to make the Ogidigben Gas Revolution Park his star project by resuming work in the shortest time possible.

This is just as His Royal Majesty (HRM), Ogiame, has urged members of his kingdom to get ready to work with officials of the National Population Commission to ensure a smooth operation during the coming Early Area Delineation enumeration exercise.

The Itsekiri monarch, who underscored the significance of the census exercise, made the pleas while addressing hundreds of Itsekiri gathered at Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral home of all Itsekiri in Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State to mark his fourth coronation anniversary.

The 20th Olu of Warri opined that the $16 billion gas city project, which groundbreaking was performed by former President Goodluck Jonathan in 2015, should ordinarily be the topmost priority of the Federal Government, given its economic importance to the nation, especially in the area of job opportunities.

“We have at every opportunity called Mr President’s attention to the Ogidigben Gas Project.

“Ordinarily, this is a project that should engage Nigeria’s full priority given the economic importance, job creating opportunities and other economic potentials it promises.

“We believe that this should be one of President Buhari’s star projects, but we’ll continue to plead with him for work to resume there in the shortest time possible,” he enthused.

Ogiame, however, thanked President Buhari and the Minister of Transport, Mr Rotimi Amaechi, for the recent approval and bringing the new Warri Deep Sea Port project to fruition.

According to him, the development came as a result of his advocacy to President Buhari soliciting the resuscitation of the Warri Port, building a new Warri Sea Port, the Ogidigben Gas Revolution Park, the Koko-Ogheye road and the Ode-Itsekiri trans-highway, among others.

The monarch further appealed to the ministry of works to dualize and double the pace of work ongoing at the Koko-Ogheye road in Warri North so that President Buhari could inaugurate it before leaving office in 2023.

The Olu, who prayed for each group that paid colourful homage to his throne in dances and presentation of gifts in the presence of his chiefs, urged all Itsekiri across the globe to unite on all fronts to reposition the kingdom for greater heights, especially in political and economic matters.

Dignitaries at the weeklong coronation anniversary which started on Monday included Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigerian Football Federation, House of Representatives member, Thomas Ereyitomi, among others.
