Orumba South LGA chairman flags off palliative works on roads in communities




Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area, Prince Neville Uchendu has flagged off "Palliative works code Operation Access roads in all communities in the council.

The wonderful initiative is designed to cushion the effects of erosion and bad road network in all the communities of the Orumba south local government Area


Flagging off the road work construction at Nawfija, Prince Uchendu emphasized the need for road projects in the community, noting that his administration has strong passion to work and improve the quality of life of the people through the provision of good local road network in the communities.


He assured of providing enablement to cohesion the challenges of the communities in the Council.

He commended the giant strides of Governor Charles Soludo on road construction especially in Orumba South, stating that such was the motivating factor that prompted him to initiate the palliative programme.

Speaking at the flag off , the Anambra State Commissioner for Works, Engr. Ifeanyi Okoma represented by Engr. Obi Okafor and the MD Nevclition Nig Ltd, Chief Bishop Egwim congratulated the Nwafija community


He also commended the TC Chairman for collaborating with relevant key players to ensure that Orumba South communities have accessible roads and benefits from other important intervention sector of the state government.

He urge other Transition Committee Chairman to emulate the good leadership style of the Orumba South Mayor while urging residents to continue to support the Chairman and the Governor Soludo's administration to succeed.

They noted that if the TC Chairman can personally and privately facilitate such a huge project, there is no doubt that given a higher platform to serve, Prince Uchendu can contract bigger names in the construction industry like Julius Berger to execute bigger projects.

Contributing, the member representing Orumba South constituency in Anambra State House Of Assembly, Hon. Emma Nwafor thanked governor Soludo
for entrusting such impactful responsibilities of the Transition Chairman of Orumba South Council Area to their illustrious son, Prince Neville Uchendu.
He was represented by Hon. Ballack Offor and the Chairman of all the President Generals in Orumba South local government area, Hon. Sam Kennedy Oguagbaka .

According to him Orumba South Mayor is not a disappointment to Governor Soludo just the same way Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo is not a disappointment to the APGA led administration and Anambra State Government as a whole.

In his welcome remarks, the traditional ruler of Nawfija Community, Igwe Clifford Okeke (Ezeudo Na Nwafija) expressed his heartfelt gratitude on behalf of the Community.
He commended Governor Soludo for the ongoing road construction projects in the entire Orumba South Local Government Area, saying that Governor Soludo indeed is a wonder working Governor.

He applauded the Chairman's proactive steps in enhancing the living standard of his people and pledged unwavering support from OAU and the entire Nwafija community for Prof Charles Chukwuma Soludo's led administration.

He also recognized the positive transformations facilitated by the Orumba South TC Chairman

He added that the entire Orumba South local government can never thank Governor Soludo and Prince Uchendu enough for their passion and commitment to the betterment of lives of the people in the area.

He urge residents to ensure the continuity of APGA and present administration in upcoming governorship polls to continue to enjoy the true benefits of democracy and good leadership.

LP decries none budgetary allocation for conduct of LGAs elections in Anambra

Anambra State Labour Party LP has observed with dismay the none allocation of funds for the conduct of Local Government Council elections by governor Charles Soludo in the 2024 annual budget.

House of Assembly member representing Awka South Constituency I, Hon Nigeria Mbachu who made the observation decried the obvious omission of local government Area election in the budget.

He made the observation following Governor Soludo's presentation of 2024 appropriation budget at the house on Tuesday.

Hon Mbachu stated that going through the budget presented that it's glaring there are no intentions of conducting LGAs elections next year.

On page 475 of the budget the budget for Anambra State independent Electoral Commission for this current year was 89,120,000.00M while the projected estimate for the incoming year is129,120,000.00m.

"You find out that there's no feasibility or readiness for Local Government Elections for the incoming year.

"I am worry so much because this tier of government has suffered so much because of lack of Local Government Election.

"Local Government as the 3rd tier of government is the bedrock of governance. Leadership and political tutelage is heavily mounted on this tier of government and should be upheld thus.

"If this can be wishfully considered I'll be glad. For now, the budget can go for 2nd reading," he stated.

Anambra Traders Sports Competition:
Nkwo Market, Umunze , Iron Dealers, others secure set for final

Anambra Traders football Competition has entered the final stage as Nkwo Market, Umunze on Sunday defeated Ajasa Market- Onitsha 6-3 in one of the semi finals played at the Chuba lkpeazu Stadium, Onitsha.

The match ended 2-2 draw at regulation time and they went into penalties and the Umunze-side netted 4 and Ajasa-side was only able to net one.

Both teams have earlier met in the Group B stage where they played 1-1 draw qualifying to represent the group in the semi finals berth. The unlucky Ajasa-side side lost at a later, while the Umunze-side with more adventurous scaled through to finals of the game.

In the second match on Sunday, Iron Dealers Market, Atani defeated New Motor Parts, Nnewi 2-1 at the Godwin Achebe Stadium.Onitsha is to square up against Nkwo Market, Umunze in the finals.

The finals is slated for Awka Township Stadium and expected to be witnessed by governor Charles Soludo.

It was not an easy match for the Nkwo Market, Umunze against Ajasa Market, Onitsha in a highly entertained and keenly contested encounter to reach the final stage.


Nnadozie Onyejekwe who sole effort opened scoring for Umunze-side in the 11th minute to the admiration of the fans.

Chukwu Nwankwo equalized for his side in 33rd minute vie penalty spot kick, David Uchechukwu gave Ajasa Market, Onitsha team the lead with the second goal in the 42rd minute before interval.

The Umunze team came back smoky on resumption looking for equalizer which paid off in the 84th minute by Chizelum Ezeora, while several efforts by Ajasa Market, Onitsha to increase the tally did not pay off at regulation time.

Elated Okeke, Coach of the Nkwo Market, Umunze said his side was already looking forward against the opponent, the Iron Dealers in the finals.

"We are going back home to make corrections for the final match in Awka. My players are all enthusiasm for the D-Day on November 26 finals," he said.

Marcel Nwachukwu, Sports Officer Onitsha Zone commended both finalists, particularly the Umunze and Ajasa players' performance in the semi final match.

"Nkwo Market, Umunze players were thoroughly exhausted before securing victory against Ajasa Market players. It was not an easy game for the two teams.

"I am happy for the show of sportsmanship spirit so far by all the teams in the competition. I am looking forward to the good soccer artistry in the finals," he said.

Winners at the end will get N3 million, while the first runner gets
N2 million and second runner up go home with N1 million .

The Anambra Traders Sports Competition started on Oct 18 with five events including Football, Tennis, Table Tennis, Draught and Ncho.

11 days after, Anambra House condole Soludo over father’s death

Eleven (11) days after members of Anambra State House of Assembly paid a condolence visit to Governor Charles Soludo over the death of his father who died at the age of 93.
The lawmakers visited the Governor at the Governor’s Lodge, Amawbia Awka south local government Area of Anambra State.
Recall that Governor Soludo’s father died at the State’s owned hospital, Odumegwu Ojukwu Teaching Hospital, Amaku, Awka, Anambra State, on November 6, 2023.
Presenting condolence message to the governor on behalf of other members ,the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze expressed great sadness over the death of Pa Soludo.
He also expressed members heartfelt condolences to the Governor and his family.
Receiving the lawmakers, the Governor expressed his appreciation to the House Members for coming physically to condole him and thanked them for their support and solidarity at this difficult times.

Peter Obi commends Anambra young writers for annual celebration Achebe

The Presidential Candidate of Labour Party LP in the 2023 general election , Mr. Peter Obi has commended young writers in Anambra State for celebrating the legendary Nigerian writer, Late Prof. Chinua Achebe annually.

Obi also commended the Society of Young Nigerian Writers Anambra State Chapter for sustaining the literary initiative, and for their commitment to nurturing and promoting literary talents in Anambra State.
He further urged young writers to draw inspiration from Achebe's works and use their creativities to address contemporary societal issues.

Obi who is the former Governor of Anambra State gave the commendation at the 2023 Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture, organized by the Society of Young Nigerian Writers Anambra State Chapter held at the Prof. Kenneth Dike State Central E-Library Library, Awka, Anambra State capital on Thursday.

Obi who was the Keynote Speaker at the event, described Achebe as a revered writer whose literary contributions have left an indelible mark on the global literary landscape.

He emphasized the importance of preserving Achebe's legacy, stating that events like the literary festival play a crucial role in keeping the flame of Achebe's influence and legacies alive.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the Occasion and Traditional Ruler of Obosi, Igwe Chidubem Iweka emphasized that late Chinua Achebe was a great literary icon, whose books were translated in many languages, and encouraged students to always focus on their studies and not be deterred by the challenges of the time.

The monarch also urged the students to constantly seek knowledge through books and to be proud ambassadors of Igbo language and culture anywhere, anytime.

Contributing, former Secretary to the State Government and former Nigerian Diplomat, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, commended the organizers of the event for their dedication to promoting literary arts and preserving the legacy of Chinua Achebe; even as he highlighted the significance of such events in fostering intellectual growth and cultural awareness among the youth.

While reiterating the importance of reading as a cornerstone for personal and intellectual development, Obaze, who is also the MD/CEO of Selonnes Consult urged the youth to embrace Achebe's legacy not only through celebrations but by actively participating in the literary world, ensuring that the flame of enlightenment continues to burn brightly in Anambra State and beyond.

Earlier in his Address of welcome, the Convener of the event and Coordinator, Society of Young Nigerian Writers Anambra State Chapter, Mr. Izunna Okafor, said the primary aim of the event was to celebrate Achebe as a hero and eagle on the Iroko of African Literature, immortalize him in their own way as young writers, as well as keep his memory alive.

He commended the Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo for recently immortalizing Achebe, which he said, had been one of the Association's major calls and appeals to government since the last eight years the event was initiated.

“Aside these, we also, through this event, promote, encourage and reward creative writing and reading culture among our youths and students; discover and harness amazing talents among our young ones, while also presenting writers and readers (intellectuals) as the elixirs to the country's ailments, among other objectives we pursue through it,” he said.

Speaking, former MD/CEO, Anambra Broadcasting Service, Chief Uche Nworah, echoed the sentiments of preserving cultural heritage as a key aspect of Achebe's literary legacy.
He emphasized that Achebe's works served as a bridge connecting the past, present, and future of the Igbo people, fostering a sense of identity and pride. He further encouraged the youth to delve into Achebe's novels and essays, viewing them not only as literary masterpieces but also as valuable repositories of Igbo traditions

On his own part, the MD/CEO Anambra State Signage and Advertising Agency (ANSAA) and Co-founder of Awka Literary Society, Mr. Odili Tony Ujubuoṅu, passionately urged the youth and emerging writers to cultivate imaginative thinking and writing skills, emphasizing their pivotal role in fostering innovation. Ujubuoṅu underscored the symbiotic relationship between writers and innovators, asserting that groundbreaking ideas often originate from the creative minds of writers, while challenging participants to embrace avid reading.

Other personalities who graced the occasion include the first female Professor of Mass Communication in Sub-saharan Africa, Prof. Stella Okunna; the state's Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Mr. Don Onyenji, represented by Mrs. Chioma Ifediorah, the Ministry's Director of Arts and Culture; the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Power and Water Resources, Mrs. Ifeyinwa Uzoka; award-winning writer and journalist, Uzor Maxim Uzoatu; widely-published author and former governorship candidate in Anambra, Okeke Chika Jerry; the MD/CEO, Naira Rice Mill, Mr. Arinze Omenwa; former Director, Anambra State Library Board, Dr. Nkechi Udeze; award-winning author, Reginald Chinedu Ofordile; among others.

Themed “Ten Years After: Remembering Achebe’s Legacies in Today's Nigeria”, the 2023 Chinua Achebe Literary Festival featured unveiling of the 8th Chinua Achebe Poetry/Essay Anthology — “Anthills of Words (In Memory of Achebe)”; cutting Achebe's 93rd posthumous birthday cake, poetry renditions and dramatizing of Achebe's books, Chinua Achebe Essay Writing Competition, and the presentation of certificates/awards to deserving participants and guests, along with other literary activities that made the event memorable.

Ife Igbo football competition:
ACTDA MD community trounce office 5-1

Umudioka Community in Awka South Local Government Council on Friday defeated Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) by 5-1 at opening of Ife Igbo football competition held at Awka township stadium.
The football competition is designed to fight social vices like cultism and others among the youths in Awka town.

The participating communities are Umudioka, Umueri, Umuanaga, Umuogwali, Umuenechi, Umuokpu, Umubelle, Nkwelle, Umuogbu, Umuayom, Umuogbunu and ACTDA.
Others are, Umuzocha, Ifite-awka, Amachalla, Umuoramma, Umukwa, Amudo, Amikwo, Omuko, Umuike and Umunnamoke

The football competition is being organized by Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) Mr Osita Onuko and sponsored by Jezco group limited.
Umudioka is home community of Mr Osita Onuko while ACTDA is his office.
The Umudioka community team dominated the match in the 90 minutes of play leaving ACTDA in disarrayed.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the defeat of his office team by his community team, Onuko said he is for all the team that are participating in the competition and not particularly interested in any one .
He said he has no special attachment to his community team or his office team but he is strongly attached in the fight against the menace of cultism which had become a worrisome social vice in the town.
According to him,the purpose of the competition was to enable players who are youths to exhibit their talents and keep themselves busy till the end of the year.

He reiterated that ,there is need for the youths to shun social vices in the town, noting that with social vices like cultism,and others Awka town which is the capital cannot develop.

"The governor is passionate about developing Awka to a great City but cannot happen under insecurity and cultism. This competition today is to tell the world that Awka is secured, peaceful and save.
As for the match,I belong to every team and they belong to me . Iam not particularly interested about any one,my only interest is to have peaceful and engaging the youths productively actively to shun social vices" he said .

The Managing Director,Anambra State Waste Management Authority (ASWAMA),Mike Ozoemela commended the ACTDA MD for the wonderful ideas aimed at curtailing social vices in the town.
According to Ozoemela,who is an indigene of Awka he was at the match to support Onuko action of reclaiming the glory of Awka town.

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company PLC (EEDC) has appreciate its customers, especially those in Imo State, for their understanding during this trying time.

In a statement by Head, Corporate Communications, EEDC Emeka Ezeh the energy Company assured its customers of continued commitment to providing improved services.

"We wishes to inform her esteemed customers of the restoration of electricity supply following the suspension of the industrial action by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC).

As a result, all our sources of supply at the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations were restored yesterday night, and our outgoing feeders are now in service, except those on fault.

In addition, supply to Egbu TCN station which serves our customers in Imo State was restored yesterday night.

We sincerely appreciate our esteemed customers, especially those in Imo State, for their understanding during this trying time, and assure them of our continued commitment to providing improved services" he stated

Anambra: Awka communities compete for honour in Maiden 'Ife Igbo' Peace Football

22 teams will take part in the first Ife Igbo peace football competition in Awka, the Anambra capital scheduled to kickoff on Saturday

Mr Osita Onuko, sponsor of the competition said the football fiesta was meant to foster unity and engender peace among Awka villages.
Onuko who is the Managing Director of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) said the competition would kick off on November 19 would give the players the platform to exhibit their talents and keep youths busy till the end of the year.
He said the Ife Igbo Awka Peace football competition is part of the campaign against the menace of cultism which had become a worrisome social vice in the town.

Onuko winners of the competition would go home with N1 million, N500,000 and N300,000 for their efforts.
The teams that would participate in the competition include, ACTDA, Umudioka, Umueri, Umuanaga, Umuogwali, Umuenechi, Umuokpu, Umubelle, Nkwelle, Umuogbu, Umuayom and Umuogbunu.
Others are, Umuzocha, Ifite-awka, Amachalla, Umuoramma, Umukwa, Amudo, Amikwo, Omuko, Umuike and Umunnamoke.
The opening game will take place at the Awka Township Stadium while the group games will take place at Ayom na Okpala and All Saints Anglican Church football fields.

Prof Gregory Ibe condoles governor Otti , Abians on Waterside Aba tragedy

Member of Ohanaeze Ndigbo Presidential Advisory Council and governorship candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance(APGA) Prof Gregory Ibe has commiserated with the government and people of Abia state on the tragic accident that occurred on Tuesday at Waterside Aba, that claimed many lives.
This was contained in a statement issued by media aide to Prof Ibe Rev. Sleek Ogwo on Wednesday.

Reacting the the unfortunate incident, Prof Ibe, who consoled governor Dr Alex Otti and members of the bereaved family, expressed deep concern over the worrisome preponderance of road crashes on the bridge axis of waterside in Aba.


He called for an immediate solution to the perennial traffic challenge in the area to prevent further loss of lives.


According to Prof Ibe,"I received with sadness news about the tragic road crash on the waterside axis of Aba which claimed many lives and wish to commiserate with our governor Dr Alex Otti and members of the bereaved families over the painful loss of their loved relations. While not approving of death in any form, I think dying through a road crash is a harsh and brutal way of signing off from this earth. It is a black Tuesday as i deeply mourn the unfortunate victims of this accident".
" I believe this is one fatal incident too many on this same waterside bridge and therefore presents a worrisome traffic challenge that must be urgently addressed to prevent reoccurrence and subsequently avoid further loss of precious lives".


Tragedy struck when a trailer carrying a container of goods lost control while descending Ogbor Hill in Aba in the early hours of Tuesday and consequently crashed into some vehicles at the waterside bridge killing many people in the aftermath.

It will be recalled that a similar incident that equally claimed many lives occurred at the same waterside bridge in February 2022, leading to the closure of the popular Ahia Udele market by the previous administration.

NLC strike responsible for power outage in Imo ,says EEDC

Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC has called on the
customers to disregard social media report that the energy company is responsible for power outage in Imo State.
EEDC in a statement signed by the management on Tuesday said the power outage in Imo State was caused by the industrial action embarked by Nigerian Labour Congress NLC.

According to the statement ,the report was intentionally and mischievously done to create disinformation and mislead the Public.

Statement reads,
"Our attention has been drawn to a publication making the rounds on the social media, initiated by some mischief makers who have chosen to take advantage of the loss of power supply in Imo State caused by the industrial action to misinform our customers, trying to incite them against our organization.

We therefore urge our customers to totally disregard the misleading publication and state that EEDC is not responsible for the prolonged power outage experienced by its customers in Imo State.

For the benefit of our esteemed customers affected by this unfortunate situation, we wish to set the records in proper perspective:

In the early hours of 1st November, 2023, EEDC’s source of supply at Egbu Transmission Station was shut down by the Labour Union following an industrial action caused by the faceoff between the Union and the government of Imo State.

As a result of this development, all the feeders serving our customers in the state were out of supply, thereby crippling our operations and leaving us helpless.

It is important to note that EEDC only distributes the electricity it receives from the Transmission Company (TCN), and its performance as a Distribution Company is dependent on other members of the electricity value chain (that is the Generation Company and the Transmission Company).

With its source of power at Egbu TCN shut down, there was no way EEDC could get power to serve its customers in Imo State. A situation that has impacted heavily on its revenue and service to customers.

Presidential Candidate of Labour Party, Mr. Peter Obi and Anambra State Governor, Prof. Charles Soludo are expected to grace the Society of Young Nigerian Writers,Anambra State Chapter annual Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture.



Mr. Peter Obi is expected to deliver the 2023 annual lecture titled Ten Years After… Remembering Achebe’s Legacies in Today’s Nigeria” While Governor, Soludo would will be be the Special Guest of Honour.

The event would be Chaired by Traditional Ruler of Obosi, H.R.H. Igwe Chidubem Iweka; the Traditional Ruler of Achebe's hometown, Ogidi, H.R.H. Igwe Alex Uzo Onyido .

He will also grace the occasion as the Royal Father of the Day, While among other .



The event will be graced by arrays of literary icons from within and outside the country, who will be storming Awka to honour the legendary Achebe.



The annual event is billed hold on Thursday at Anambra State Central E-Library and who is who in the state and beyond are expected .

The Coordinator, Society of Young Nigerian Writers (Anambra State Chapter), Izunna Okafor, made this known in a statement on Monday in Awka Anambra state .



According to him, Chinua Achebe Literary Festival and Memorial Lecture, initiated in 2016 is cn its 8th edition.

The literary annual event is designed to honour of Nigerian literary icon, Late Prof. Chinua Achebe, and celebrate his life, works and legacies.

He stated that this year's event will hold on Achebe's birthday, November 16, 2023, at the Anambra State Central E-Library (also known as the Prof. Kenneth Dike State Library), Awka.

The programme starts at 10.am prompt; with many dignitaries and participants in attendance.
According to Okafor,the event will feature the 2023 Achebe Lecture, drama, spoken word poetry, announcement of the winners of the 2023 Chinua Achebe Essay Writing Competition (for secondary schools), special reading, award presentation, among other literary packages slated for the day.


He also stated that the occasion would feature the unveiling and presentation of the 8th Chinua Achebe Poetry/Essay Anthology, entitled “Anthills of Words (In Memory of Achebe)”, which is the association's newest international anthology of poems and essays, published in honour of Achebe.

The annual international anthology, he explained, is one of the writers' way of immortalizing Achebe, and contains poems, essays, and reviews written and submitted by writers from different countries of the world.

Okafor said the open-to-all event, event will be used to mark Achebe's 93 posthumous birthday and ten years of his death.


Prof Achebe was born in November 16, 1930, hailed from Ogidi in Anambra State, and was a foremost Nigerian writer, critic, and author of Things Fall Apart. He died on March 21, 2013, at the age of 82.

Idemili North Local Government area of Anambra State have commended the governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo for remembering the old and single biggest political ward in Southern Nigeria, Obosi.
In effort to show their heartfelt gratitude and satisfaction with Soludo led administration, the Obosi Development Union (ODU) Worldwide organized a special thank you rally for the governor.


The rally attracted virtually the entire Obosi community, including Eze na Ndichie Obosi, ODU branches, Obosi Youths, ODU Women wing, Ndi Nze na Ozo, Council of Age Grades and other groups.

The event , took place at Nwobodo Ugamuma Square in Idemili North Local Government area of Anambra State.

Speaking at the event ,the President General of Obosi Development Union Worldwide, Barr. Chimezie Obi commended Soludo for remembering Obosi in his government and for the massive ongoing road constructions in both inland and urban parts of Obosi town.

According to him, Obosi people
are rejoicing because Prof. Charles Soludo did not only grant Obosi a seat in his government by appointing their own brother as Commissioner of Works but also appointed ODU Worldwide third Vice President General, Hon. Anthony Amaifobu as Special Assistant to the governor on House of Assembly matters.

Obi however lamented that despite Obosi being the single biggest political ward in the southern Nigeria and second in the entire Nigeria, the community has not been given a fair share of its political entitlement.

He emphasized that with a population of about five hundred and fifty thousand people, geographical size, man power contributions, human capital development and other contributions in Anambra State, Obosi is more than ripe enough to be a full local government.

He called on the Anambra State House of Assembly to commence the constitutional process of designating Obosi as a local government in Anambra State, noting that the voice of Ndi Obosi will be heard in due course.

While praying for more wisdom, protection and blessings on the life of the governor, Barr Obi pledged that the Obosi people will play their part to ensure that the vision of Soludo's administration is brought to a successful completion.

He commended the sponsor of the event, Mr. Omezie Chukwura for his magnanimity and support.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion, Mr. Omezie Chukwurah, stated that the rally was organised as a special appreciation to Governor Soludo for his special regards for Obosi community.

He thanked the Anambra State Governor for the two unprecedented special appointment slot and stated that Obosi people will be presenting a life cow to the governor to evidently express their gratitude.

He also called for more support from sons and daughters of Obosi both home and abroad to assist the ODU in developing Obosi.

Contributing, the leader of the Enugu Branch of the Obosi Development Union (Women Wing), Prof Mrs Felicia Obioma Ononye expressed her joy and gratitude to Governor Soludo for the ongoing massive road construction projects in the community, noting that the development will help ensure better drainage systems to pave way for easy flow of water channels during the rainy season.

She commended the sponsor of the event and went further to request more considerations from the Governor in the following areas: schools renovation, establishment of health centres, and skills acquisition centres. She finally prayed for God's special guidance and protection for the governor and the entire Obosi people.

The traditional ruler of Obosi Kingdom, Igwe Iweka Chidubem, represented by Ogbueshi Mbidebe Ogalanya, in his separate remark, thanked those who contributed to the success of the rally and commended Governor Soludo for attending to the plight of Obosi community, describing the gesture as an act of love.
He also extended Chief Emeka Anyaoku's regards to the governor over the death of his father.

A concerned citizen of Anambra state,Emmanuel O. Azowue, has chided a lawyer working with the legal department of the Nigerian Police, Chief Superintendent of Police and founder of a Church, Dr. Joseph Nwadike for his alleged roles in truncating the demand for justice by a victim.

Azowue said that he was surprised at his level of half-truth being promoted as the whole truth on the activities and dealings of personnel of the Nigerian Police by Joseph Nwadike


According to him,"While we can never stop complaining of how bad the Nigeria administrative justice have become, including the criminal activities perpetuated by men of the Nigeria Police, the interview granted by a senior police personnel, Dr. Joseph Nwadike, a Chief Superintendent of Police, lawyer and prosecutor working with the legal department of the Nigerian Police, and also a founder of a church. Honestly, I was surprised at his level of half-truth being promoted as the whole truth on the activities and dealings of personnel of the Nigerian Police by one of their own"

He said that regrettably,he claimed to be a man of God and have always stood on the side of truth and justice throughout his dealings and activities as a personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.

He said Nwadike trying to debunk the claims and position held by him of the Nigeria Police Force, he would be making mockery of the position he occupy.

"I will be making reverence to just one particular case that has passed through his desk where he allowed or supported wittingly or otherwise for justice to be perverted just because of the huge amount that has been paid to him to look the other way or to persuade a victim of injustice as to yield to the demand of an oppressor as a means of achieving peace when he in all consciousness he knew that what he was asking for would truncate the demand for justice by the victim and his community.

Dr. Joseph Nwadike must be reminded that a case against one Chief Pius Nweke was brought before him as a prosecutor in the office of the Inspector General of Police which was sponsored by a money bag from Ukpo community, Prince Arthur Eze against Chief Pius Nweke. He gladly owned up to the latter’s request that he knew that he was pursuing a course of justice but advised the latter to yield to the unholy and irrational demands of the former as a means of achieving peace in the matter. Yet, he claimed to be an objective prosecutor of the Nigeria Police Force and a man of God when his actions and deeds clearly suggests otherwise.

Maybe, Dr. Joseph Nwadike may need to be reminded that when the case between Prince Arthur Eze and Chief Pius Nweke came to his desk which was bothering on the land dispute between Prince Arthur Eze’s community (Ukpo) and Chief Pius Nweke’s community (Abba), he advised Chief Pius Nweke to close his eyes and go to sleep while allowing Prince Arthur Eze to take possession of the ancestral land of Chief Pius Nweke’s community. He had further advised Chief Pius Nweke to discontinue with the legal tussle between his community (Abba) and that of Prince Arthur Eze’s community (Ukpo) as the surest way of achieving lasting peace and enabling Prince Arthur Eze’s community, Ukpo to take possession of a land that is still under dispute before the court, thereby suggesting that justice cannot be gotten through the Nigeria Police Force and the courts in the land. What Dr. Joseph Nwadike is suggesting is that there are people who are untouchable and above the law, and who must be appeased even when what they are doing is wrong, and should be treated as demi-gods in order to have their inordinate desires to be granted at all cost. Unfortunately, this is what the Nigerian society has become and men like Dr. Joseph Nwadike will continue to pontificate and support evil just because anything seems to go in our present lawless society.

Dr. Joseph Nwadike cannot continue to deceive Nigerians that he is an Evangelist of the gospel of Christ who always acts in the course of justice when he willingly handed over Chief Pius Nweke’s framed up unlawful possession of illegal firearm case to a private legal practitioner to prosecute the case in court. He cannot also claim not to be aware that the trumped up case of illegal possession of firearm against Chief Pius Nweke was used a cover up against the latter as a means to intimidate him from continually standing against Prince Arthur Eze’s quest to silence the people of Abba community and to freely take over the possession of the ancestral land of the people of Abba community.

Men like Dr. Joseph Nwadike are the real bad eggs in the Nigeria Police establishment who are always in the habit of mortgaging the course of justice to the highest bidder. He has succeeded in deceiving innocent Nigerian citizens into believing that he is a man of honour and integrity and a God fearing man when in truth he is the real devil behind the scene. And until men like Dr. Joseph Nwadike are thrown out from the Nigeria Police formation, achieving sanity in the system will be almost impossible. Until men like Dr. Joseph Nwadike are exposed to the world of his devilish and heartless activities in concert with his benefactor, Prince Arthur Eze, achieving justice through the Nigeria Police will remain a herculean task.

Dr. Joseph Nwadike willingly made himself a willing tool in the hand of an oppressor and land grabber. He has allowed himself to be consumed by his lust for illicit wealth as to pervert a crystal clear course of justice, the consequences of his actions and deeds will be his greatest undoing, and on the day of reckoning, he will definitely reap the fruit of his labour" Azowue stated.

Pa Soludo died at the age of 92 years at a hospital in Anambra state .

Speaking on the heels of the announcement of the death of the elder Soludo in the early hours of Monday 6 November, Prof Ibe appreciated God for his benevolence in prolonging the life of the governor's father while affording him the privilege of a fulfilled tenure in divine health.

Prof Gregory Ibe who was the Abia State governorship candidate on the platform of All progressive Grand Alliance APGA in 2023 condoled Governor Soludo and enjoined him to bear the death of his father with fortitude encouraged by Pa Soludo's numerous legacies.

He prayed that God will grant Pa Soludo eternal rest and reassured the Governor of his sustained support and intercession especially during the grievous period of his bereavement.

Anambra Sports Writers Association SWAN has commiserated with the families of the three students struck to death by lightening last Saturday.

The incident which took place at Tansian International College Nodu Awka South local government area of Anambra state killed three students and injured Six others .

According to a statement signed by the Chairman Mr Chimezie Anaso and Assistant Secretary Uche Ndeke SWAN condoles with Most Rev. Paulinus Ezeokafor, Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, owners of the College.
"We, members of the above named body, wish to convey our deep condolences to parents, management and staff of Tansian International College, Nodu, Awka South Local Government Area over the lightning strike accident of Saturday, Nov. 5"

"The lightning which hit the football of the school while students were playing touched nine of them and left three of them dead"

"This is indeed a huge and irreparable loss to the parents of the deceased, Tansian College, the society and the sports community in particular"

"As the body of sports journalists in Anambra, we are deeply saddened because we are aware of the positive role Tansian College has played in the development of sports in Anambra State by making its pitch available for sporting activities".

"We are appreciate that this particular football pitch was one of the venues of Anambra Independent Football League, the biggest independently run football league as well as other competitions"

Meanwhile residents and people of Nodu Community are still in shock over the thunder storm as most football fields are deserted.

Similarly it was gathered that the Traditional Religious bodies have commenced spiritual inquest into the cause of the lightening .

A man that gave his name as Ichie Nwaogu told reporters that such an incident has never happened before, adding that thunder storm only comes to settle issues or punish people.

Anambra community threatens to occupy EEDC Awka with 2000 people,if it fails to restore power within 2 weeks

Umuawulu community in Awka South local government Area of Anambra state has threatened to mobilise over 2000 to occupy Enugu Electricity Distribution Company EEDC, Awka office,if it fails to restore power to community within two weeks.

The threat was contained in a protest letter titled " Protest Against Continued Breach of NERC Decision on Restoration of Light to Health Centre Substation Transformer ,Umuaeulu"
to EEDC by the community, jointly signed by Chairman, Comrade Osita Obi ,Secretary, Cyril C Eziofor and Legal Adviser, Bar. Tony Anazor on Monday, copied to the Anambra State Commissioner of Police and Director, Department of State Security (DSS) .

The community accused the energy company for breach of contract and disregard to the Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC directive on restoration of light.

According to the statement,the EEDC has continuously breached directive from Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC directive for metering and
restoration of light after clearing outstanding bills.

According to the letter,
Electricity Consumers in Umuawulu take exception to the continued disregard of
the directives of Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC for metering and restoration of light to the transformer after clearing outstanding bills ,is deliberately
flouted by the staff of Awka Office of EEDC.
The statement further stated that the consumers of Health Center Substation Transformer Umuawulu have since cleared the outstanding bills of N7,204,000 as far back as 30th December,2022 and
Individual consumers have been captured in EEDC DATA BASE, account numbers
have been assigned to them and Demand Notice issued and many have paid for
prepaid.
It stated that it is regrettable that only a few meters have been installed without energizing the transformer.
"To make the situation more hopeless, many consumers cannot pay for their meters
because the REMITA PAYMENT REFERENCE was deactivated without directives on how else to make payments.

It is unfortunate that this transformer which serves UMUAWULU PRIMARY
HEALTHCARE CENTER, the only health institution in Umuawulu community has
been in darkness since three years ago. AIl efforts to get officials of your organization
at Awka to do the needful have proved abortive as they are unwilling to cooperate with
state.
We therefore demand that you take immediate steps to the following,
consumers.
Restore light to the Health Center Substation Transformer Umuawulu without further delay.
Complete the installation of Prepaid Meters already duly paid for and Immediately reactivate/ revalidate those Demand Notice which REMITA PAYMENT
REFERENCES have been deliberately deactivated, to enable those concerned pay for
meters.
Take note that if after Two Weeks from today nothing is done in this regard, we shall
have no other option than to mobilize over 2000 electricity consumers to occupy EEDC
Office until we receive justice" it stated.

When contacted the Head , Corporate Communication of EEDC, Mr Emeka Eze,said he got information that the community is on supply at the moment and that the transformer will be closed tomorrow.

He said that those outstanding customers who claimed to have paid will definitely be metered.

"Let's have details and proof of payment.
For those who could not pay, they might have to revalidate the Demand Note as it is possible they are expired. Demand Note has a life span of 30 days" he said .

PDP chieftain challenges intellectuals on development of Afrocentric Democracy

Chairman of United Nigeria Airlines, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo has challenged political anthropologists across African universities on the development of an indigenous democratic culture that imbibes the traditional values of the people of the continent.


Obiora Okonkwo who is a Chieftain of People's Democratic Party PDP made the call while delivering the keynote address at a two-day international hybrid political conference of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka .

The conference had the theme, “Political Transitions and Economic Development: The African Experience” and it attracted political scientists from across the continent.

According to Okonkwo, developing, and inculcating, an indigenous democratic culture that embodies all traditional African values and norms may be a new roadmap towards instituting a democratic practice that is enduring as well as eliminates problematic transitions.

He argued that incessant forced transitions in Africa, many of which had led to bloodshed and huge economic as well as development losses, could be traced to the imposition of a democratic habit that is alien to traditional African cultural norms.

“Even as we task the political anthropologists in our universities to help develop an Afrocentric democratic system of governance, “we must, especially in Africa, try to resolve the tension between liberal democracy as prescribed by the West and the welfare state and social democratic system that is more in sync with the continent’s communitarian system of living reflected in such time-honoured axiom as it takes a village to raise a child”he stated.
According to him, liberal democracy privileges individual rights and capitalist values at the expense of the collective or what we generally refer to as public interest.

According to Okonkwo, for some critics, democracy is simply foreign to Africa and can never work.

" Others, however, underscore the need for Africa to develop a model of democracy that reflects its cultural values and systems; drawing from the continent’s pre-colonial governance structures.” he said .

According to him,the political tension and forced transitions in the continent had imperiled economic advancement with the attendant loss of momentum on governance which had, to a large extent, been responsible for the rise in poverty in African states.


Okonkwo noted that Africa’s experience with democratization, with very few exceptions, has often stagnated at the phase of transition resulting in a great deal of frustration and disenchantment among the people many of whom remain mired in multidimensional poverty.


He argued that the theorists of democratization in about the past three decades broadly conceive as a two-step process of transition and consolidation which are neither linear nor inevitable.

Okonkwo, also insisted that for democracy to take firm root, bring an end to forced transitions and answer to the yearnings of the people for development, African states must begin to institutionalise behaviours that endear democracy to the people.


He listed weak institutions, ethno-political and religious divisions, economic disparities, and external influence alongside the partisanship of security forces as some of the factors responsible for forced transitions on the continents.

He, however, canvassed the strengthening of democratic institutions, promoting inclusive governance, enhanced civic education and voter awareness, strengthening security measures, international support, and diplomatic engagement among steps necessary to eliminate forced transitions in Africa.

“African countries should prioritize the strengthening of democratic institutions, including electoral commissions, judicial systems, and oversight bodies. These institutions need to be independent, transparent, and accountable to ensure fair and credible elections; building trust in the electoral process can help reduce the likelihood of problematic transitions and post-election violence; encouraging inclusive governance and inclusive political participation is vital for reducing election-related tensions; investing in civic education programs can help to inform citizens about their rights, the importance of peaceful elections, and the consequences of election violence.
“African governments should prioritize the strengthening of security measures during elections. This includes adequate training and equipping of security forces to handle election-related security challenges professionally and impartially; building and strengthening mechanisms for peaceful dialogue, negotiation, and dispute resolution to address issues and conflicts arising during elections and as such help foster peaceful transitions, as well as engaging international partners, regional organizations, and neighbouring countries should provide support and engagement to help prevent and address election violence and transitions in Africa”, among others, he said, can help see Africa through forced transitions" he said.

The Management of Gregory University Uturu has released a comprehensive calendar for the 2023/2024 academic session.

According to a statement released by the Registrar of the institution ,Dr Chukwuemeka Mpamah, students are expected to return to the campus on Saturday 28 October 2023.

According to the registrar, highlights of the calendar include, Orientation Programme for Freshmen, Public Lecture on the topic "Harnessing Opportunities in Block Chain Technology and Digital Economy" by Archbishop ,Prof Sam Zuga and Induction Programme for the institution's pioneer medical doctors.

"Other features captured in the calendar include the 8th Inaugural Lecture of the university on the theme " Communicating Life and Death in our Atomistic Conflict Prone Society; Media Role in Resolving the Albatross", a thought provoking treatise to be delivered by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic,Prof Uche Uwaoma, the 12th Matriculation event and activities marking the 8th Convocation ceremony" he stated.

He said the calendar has been designed to guarantee the attainment of the institution's goal of "advancing the cause of developing the total man while delivering technologically powered knowledge, skills and competencies to students.

According to him, the statement sued for strict compliance and participation by members of the university community.

Anambra APGA may suspend ACTDA MD over planned mega rally

The purported Anambra Central Rally being organized by the embattled MD/ Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Agency ACTDA Mr Ossy Onuko and one Prince Obinna Ndigwe under the umbrella of the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA for the zone has been cancelled.
It was also gathered that Ossy Onuko may be suspended from the party if he goes ahead with the planed Mega Rally.

Recall that it is not up to one week when reports had it that the same Ossy Onuko ordered the manhandling of the driver attached to the GUO Transport Company which the state government and the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA have been battling to manage the situation.
At the peak of the controversy he ventured into convening a political rally.

The Anambra state Chairman of APGA , Bar Ifeatu Obiokoye on Wednesday said the purported Anambra Central Mega Rally being planed by one Ossy Onuko and one Prince Obinna Ndigwe scheduled to hold on Saturday 28th October 2023 under the acronym Solution Team is cancelled.

According to him,the leadership and stakeholders of the party in Anambra Central Senatorial Zone were not consulted nor taken into confidence before the so called Mega Rally was conceived or put into execution.
"We all knew that in the last one week,the party has been doing some damage control on the the same Ossy Onuko for ordering the beating of the GUO driver in Awka. The whole situation is the height of insensitivity"

"Suddenly he is planning a Mega Rally for the entire Anambra Central Senatorial Zone where you have the Deputy Governor , the Deputy Speaker, the State party Chairman and the Secretary to the State Government SSG"

"He did not even consult any of the leaders and these are the kind of things that they have been doing that has always cost us some of our electoral losses in Awka South local government area"

"As the state chairman of the party, I will not let that kind of profligacy to continue. I have stopped the rally and if he does anything on the contrary we shall take disciplinary actions and those behind him should come out and we shall suspend him and his cohorts from the party"he said.

Obiokoye also dismissed what he described as mere rumors about Ossy Onuko becoming a Deputy Governorship,noting that those reports are not only laughable but infantile.

"There have been that kind of stories about being Deputy Governor but you know me and I cannot allow that rubbish as far as I am the chairman and that is not why I am on this saddle"

"We are more concerned about the Governor winning reelection and not about little boys, and for me , Anambra Central is a very important and sensitive area and we shall deliver at the appointed time" he said.

Court sentences 20 years boy to reformation center in Anambra

A Federal High Court sitting in Awka Anambra state presided by Justice Nnamdi Dimgba has sentenced a 20 year boy ,Ebube Otunyelum to Maryland Pilgrimage centre, Okpunoeme, Awka North of the state for
reformations .

Otunyelum was charged for conspiracy to vandalise and steal, willfull damage and vandalisation and stealing of armour cables.
When the charges were read to him ,he pleaded guilty and beg the court for leniency.
After his plea for leniency ,the presiding judge, Justice Nnamdi Dimgba said that he would have sentenced him fully but for his remorsefullines,he handed him over suspended sentence of six months to Maryland Pilgrimage centre where he will undergo some reformations in life.
The centre is owned by one Rev Father Ejike Nwankwo who was at the court for a different matter .

Dimgba directed that if the convict within six months does not show positive change , he will be fully sentenced for five years jail term .
He asked the Rev Father Nwankwo to report back to court about the convict attitudinal change .

According to him,he would have set him free , but there are likely situation where the convict will go to back to society and graduate to a higher criminal and continue to terrorise the society.
" Iam sentencing you for six months to Maryland Pilgrimage centre for reformation under the tutulage of Rev Father Ejike Nwankwo. In the event ,if he report back shows lack of progress on the part of the convict,he shall be sentenced for five years in prison " he stated.

We're at risk of being electrocuted,
Anambra Community laments

Residents of Adabebe village in Amawbia Community,Awka South local government area have lamented over the risk of being electrocuted following the destruction of eight electric poles by heavy down pure in the area.

The heavy rainfall after few days of constructing drainage had caused the felling of about eight poles.

The incident had stalled the on going drainage and roads constructions in the community.

The village that houses three post Primary Schools, a hotel and over 200 buildings is under sustained apprehension as school children and residents no longer go to schools and business for fear of being electrocuted.

The concrete poles have all been broken after the rains had eaten deep into the foundations of the poles while the high tension cables are currently on the road .

Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of Anambra state House of Assembly Nze Pius Okoye, a resident in the area has contacted the Enugu Electrical Distribution Company EEDC over the incident but no respond to the appeal.

"We have contacted the workers at the EEDC and they promised to do something about it, but this is dangerous in view of the risk involved and we have over 2,000 school children that use this road everyday as well as people that live around here "

"There is a power surge , you can imagine what would happen if the unlikely occured? Now, no vehicle can pass through the road and this is dangerous for us here in Adabebe village" he said.

Also speaking a resident in the area Mrs Ngozi Ijeoma who is a school teacher noted that if nothing urgent was not done the number of deaths that would be recorded would be high.

"The EEDC should come and save us from the impending danger that is coming when light is restored"

"At night an unsuspecting visitor may fall victim and for us here we don't have any access or another road we can use so this is not good "

"They don't need to wait until something bad happens and I urge you journalists to please help us tell them because we are living in fear" she lamented.

When reporters visited the EEDC office in Awka no one was willing to speak on the matter and non confirmed receipt of the complaint from the the Deputy Speaker.
