In the late 18th century, Sarah Baartman was working as a slave in Cape Town, South Africa, when she was discovered by a British doctor. Intrigued by her unusually large buttocks and genitals, he persuaded her to accompany him to London. Once there, she was “displayed” as a scientific curiosity. Once the scientific community in London were tired of her, she turned to Parisian exhibitions, and once they were also tired of her, she turned to prostitution. However, as a Khoikhoi woman she was considered an anthropological freak in England, and she found herself put on exhibition, displayed as a sexual curiosity. Dubbed The Hottentot Venus, her image swept through British popular culture. Abolitionists unsuccessfully fought a court battle to free her from her exhibitors. Sarah Baartman was taken to Paris in 1814 and continued to be exhibited as a freak. She became the object of scientific and medical research that formed the bedrock of European ideas about black female sexuality. When she died in 1816, the Musee de l’Homme in Paris took a deathcast of her body, removed her skeleton and pickled her brain and genitals in jars. These were displayed in the museum until as late as 1985. After five years of negotiating with the French authorities for the return of Sarah Baartman remains, the South African government, together with the Griqua National Council which represents the country’s 200 000 Griqua people, part of the Koi-San group, brought Sarah Baartman back to South Africa. On Friday 3 May 2002, in a moving ceremony attended by many representatives of the Khoikhoi people, Sarah Baartman was welcomed back to Cape Town. Her final resting place is in the Eastern Cape, where she was born. By naming our centre after Sarah Baartman, we are remembering and honouring a woman who has become an icon, not only to her own Khoikhoi people, but to all women who know oppression and discrimination in their lives. People sometimes ask us for pictures of Sarah Baartman. We have decided not to provide these, out of respect for her and in order not to perpetuate her exploitation by putting her once again on display. With regard to Sarah Baartman name, we are aware that according to her baptism certificate (Saartjie was baptized in England), her name is written Sara Bartmann. In most writings, she is referred to as Sarah or Saartjie Baartman, where Saartjie is the Afrikaans diminutive of Sarah. There is a current debate on whether Saartjie should be discarded in favour of Sarah, as many women feel that the diminutive form of names is infantilizing. We use Saartjie and Sarah interchangeably, while acknowledging the Centre’s formally registered name as the Saartjie Baartman Centre. By the age of 25, Sarah Baartman was dead. We can only guess that Sarah Baartman got on that ship from South Africa thinking she was headed for a better life. We can guarantee that the reality fell far short of her dreams. The story of Sarah Baartman is a must read, for we cannot completely understand where we are unless we first understand where we’ve been. www.tobietti.com

How many of you know Daniel Kanu... Guess a lot of you reading this don't know him at all, but in 1997/1998 Daniel Kanu was the man of the year, the self-acclaimed leader of the Youth who wined and dined with the autocratic General 'Sani Abacha'. I don't know if Daniel Kanu was paid or if he acted our of dire passion to organise the one million man march campaign for Abacha. The Youth Earnestly Ask for Abacha (YEAA) Campaign. Africa Research Bulletin referred to YEAA as the most "fanatical" group in its support of Abacha as a candidate for President (20 Mar. 1998, 13002). According to Daniel Kanu, YEAA's leader, "the destiny of this nation and the transition to democracy under the present dispensation can only achieve its viable potentials if handled by prudent, purposeful, and transparent leadership of General Abacha" (ibid.). My Readers, please try to understand. Why would someone in his right sense campaign for Abacha, an autocratic ruler that abused all our human rights. And the worst part of it is that Daniel Kanu is still in the political scene today. •The link below will give you a Detailed explanation of the " Youth Earnestly Ask for Abacha (YEAA)" Campaign www.refworld.org/docid/3ae6ac1e34.htm •To get to Know the man Daniel Kanu, visit his website www.danielkanu.com And most importantly to know those leaders who betrayed our democracy in the past, because of money and material things, especially during the period of Gen. Sani Abacha. Then I will refer us to a book by Olusegun Adeniyi "The last 100 days of Abacha : political drama in Nigeria under one of Africa's most corrupt and brutal military dictatorships" What you will find in this book will disappoint you about Nigeria and Nigerians. Most of you reading my Blog tobietti.com don't really have the real idea of what really happened during the time of Abacha. But this book will open your eyes to it. Source:www.tobietti.com

What More can be said after watching this video.. the diplomatic structure of Nigeria is weak and is being abused currently. No matter the condition, a Nigerian citizen should not be treated like this way. it is far below humane and we as a country(Govt) have to respond to make these Malaysians understand the fact that we are not animals, we are as human as they are and better than them because we don't treat foreigners this in our motherland.... Meestique: why can't the man consider the woman? Na only una get blood for vein? Women aint sex slaves Mr so if she's nt in the mood, go hug ur vaseline for dat night. #gbami laugh in spanish for you ladies... don't go all foreign, remember you are still African. the ones that have had sex with their husband after given birth have died abi. Marriage is all about sacrifice and i agree women are not sex slave that's why he didn't rape her but he requested and begged her.. they don't beg slaves for sex, they rape them.. you get?? it's mean and wicked for a man to be Hot and he's wife his denying him of sex.. if you like deny him of sex, he will simply go outside *because he won't be thinking with his brain* and once the woman outside can perform better, he will just bring her into your home 'you don get 2nd wife be dat'.. don't act like a mumu because of all these feminist theory, you will just loose totally if you try and practice it in Africa. |

Meestique: She has given her reasons nd u're still asking why... Men & se.xif the man goes outside now, its you ladies that will be crying like chinese radio... A woman should be ready to submit herself to her husband, she might not be in the mood but she has to consider her husband or do you think is everyman that's in the mood to go to work everyday but he has to think of his family.. So if she says no sex or you are begging for sex from your wife then she's hiding something....#Gbam |

Can you Imagine NHIS doesn't cover terminal illness like cancer, so why do we have an insurance scheme that cannot help when help is needed. Unilag Student 'Yakubu Yusuf' a 400Level Student from the Faculty of Social Science that was diagnosed with Cancer died earlier today, this was confirmed through a phone call with the President of the Faculty of Social Science. Yakubu Yusuf before he died needed a sum of N16m for treatment but he couldn't get it. Unilag Students are known to pay for two Insurance scheme, one of which is 'United Healthcare International' which only covers illnesses that NHIS covers.... Surprisingly NHIS doesn't cover terminal illness like cancer.. 'So why do we have an health insurance scheme in the first place' Today Nigeria, Unilag just lost a Final year gladiator because of a bad system of government. RIP Bro.. Because of your death and that of so many innocents ones, things will change in Nigeria. Click here for pic --» http://www.tobietti.com/2014/07/sad-final-year-unilag-student-dies-of.html?m=1 |
Religious threads ..... Story for the gods. But the funniest thing I have noticed is that the ones that don't pay tithe or give to the church are the same ones that are complaining and saying tithe is false or the pastor is getting rich... No two individual in the world has the same fingerprint, which means everyone has the right to make his/her choices. 'So make yours and stop complaining about another person's own'. "If your brother cannot father a child with his wife, you all know it is wrong to sleep with his wife to father a child for him". So then, why are you worried negatively for tithers, it's their problem not yours. Why direct so much energy to something that isn't your problem. Personally I think you are fighting a wrong fight, pour than nationalist and revolutionary spirit you have into the poor situation our country is in and let the church be. Tithes are free will, taxes are imposed without us seeing traces of development, the National revenue are not Utilised and a lot of politicians can also boast of Private Jets. So which one sounds right "Private Jets from money gotten from money people gave freely or Private Jets from the money stolen by politicians" We all have to understand something about humans in general, once we start chasing or aiming for something and we fail to achieve or acquire that thing, we often tend to give-up and stop.... As a boyee, if you keep chasing a girl and she no gree or even you sign sey she go gree... Wetin you go do?? Jabo the girl abi. its the same thing we are talking about, if the people paying tithe are not seeing results in their life then they would have stopped, we must all agree the rate at which people pay tithe have increased if not we won't have mega churches like we have today. In life make sure you practice what works for you and don't criticise another man's own... But permit me to explain some terms... 1. Tithes are just 10% not all. If you decide to give all then that's your choice. 2. Tithes are meant to be given to God through the Church not to the needy or the poor. 'God is God, He's not broke, He does not need your money to survive' 3. Tithing is not a requirement for salvation. Giving or not giving is not a requirement to make heaven. But if you want to enjoy your time on earth then you have to understand the concept of giving. 4. When you give make sure you reverence it to God, not to your pastor. The blessings are of God, its not of concern on what the money is being used for. You are what you hear and your future depends on the way you listen, think and act. NOTE: this is the view of a Nigerian boy that doesn't profess any of the religion of the world. |
The Game is called Politics and according to Ex-President Obasanjo "Democracy is Game of Number".. Two days ago Obasanjo wrote an open letter to President Jonathan in which one can notice was written in pain and total disappointment of a successor which was to bring the so called "Goodluck" to the Nigerian people but failed. One paragraph that caught my attention in the letter is the accusations Obasanjo made to the President about 'training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his own killers.' and Obasanjo related this development to release of Al-mustapha (the former Chief security officer to Late General Abacha) who was responsible for the death of Kudirat Abiola the wife of the M.K.O Abiola. According to the Letter, Obasanjo is displeased with the release of Al-Mustapha and Jonathan using the Power of the President to prevent Justice. Al-Mustapha according to Obasanjo is responsible for the training of these snipers and other armed personnel which are to be used to silent political opponents. NOTE: Former President Obasanjo is an elder statesman in Nigeria and he won't mention what he doesn't know to be true .. below is the Paragraph culled from the Letter Allegation of keeping over 1000 people on political watch list rather than criminal or security watch list and training snipers and other armed personnel secretly and clandestinely acquiring weapons to match for political purposes like Abacha and training them where Abacha trained his own killers, if it is true, it cannot augur well for the initiator, the government and the people of Nigeria. Here again, there is the lesson of history to learn from for anybody who cares to learn from history. Mr. President would always remember that he was elected to maintain security for all Nigerians and protect them. And no one should prepare to kill or maim Nigerians for personal or political ambition or interest of anyone. TheYoruba adage says, “The man with whose head coconut is broken may not live to savour the taste of the succulent fruit.” Those who advise you to go hard on those who oppose you are your worst enemies. Democratic politics admits and is permissive of supporters and opponents. When the consequences come, those who have wrongly advised you will not be there to help carry the can. Egypt must teach some lesson. Presidential assistance for a murderer to evade justice and presidential delegation to welcome him home can only be in bad taste generally but particularly to the family of his victim. Assisting criminals to evade justice cannot be part of the job of the presidency. Or, as it is viewed in some quarters, is he being recruited to do for you what he had done for Abacha in the past? Hopefully, he should have learned his lesson. Let us continue to watch Read full Letter here http://www.tobietti.com/2013/12/obasanjo-reveals-jonathan-hired-al.html

The African nation of Angola has reportedly become the first country to ban Islam and Muslims, reports On Islam.Concerning the ban, Angolan President Jose Eduardo dos Santos said Sunday "this is the final end of Islamic influence in our country." Angola's ban was first announced last Friday, when Angolan Minister of Culture, Rosa Cruz e Silva said "the process of legalization of Islam has not been approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human rights, their mosques would be closed until further notice." India Today reports Silva's statement was made at the 6th Commission of the Angolan National Assembly, and that the ban includes orders to demolish mosques in the country. Silva reportedly said the ban was necessary since Islam is "contradictory to the customs of Angola culture." Angola's population of 16 million is predominantly Christian, with only 80,000-90,000 Muslims, the majority of whom are migrants from West Africa and families of Lebanese origin, according to the US State Department. The crackdown on Islam comes as Christians in the Middle East are being forced from Muslim countries. Former Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Oren noted in 2012 that the Christian population in the Middle East dropped from 20% a century ago to 5% currently amid ongoing persecution of Christians by Muslims. Oren noted in Egypt 200,000 Coptic Christians fled their homes in 2011 amid anti-Christian violence during the "Arab spring" uprising that toppled dictator Hosni Mubarak. In 2012 Saudi Arabia's top Muslim leader, Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al al-Shaikh, issued a fatwa (religious decree) to demolish all churches on the Arabian peninsula. Particularly in Africa, analysts have commented that Islamist forces have been killing and expelling Christians largely with negligible international criticism. Aside from Islam, other religions that have not been legalized will face similar measures in Angola. The non-legalized religions on the list "published by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights in the Angolan newspaper 'Jornal de Angola' are prohibited to conduct worship, so they should keep their doors closed," said Silva. The Minister of Culture added that there is a legalization process through which over a thousand religious sects are currently applying. |

this is a message I just got Rumour, trash it!!! The strike will be over soon The rumour going viral on social media that ASUU had postponed her NEC meeting to Jan. 15, 2014 due to Prof.(Comrade) Festus Iyayi death is a lie! please disregard it as such information didn't emanate from ASUU at all. Probably, from the myopic figment of imagination of some questionable characters, who are determined to destroy the image of the body. It is highly unfortunate that personality like Dele Momodu will be part of those spreading this scandalous information on his twitter account without verifying it. ASUU has not mention anything like Jan 15 except postponing the NEC meeting from today. |
