WebmastersDotproject CMS Manual Installation by todhost(op): 12:44pm On Dec 27, 2015
DotProject is included in the 1-click install tool you will find in the software section of your website control panel. There are two ways to install the dotProject website You can use our QuickInstall tool or you download the full installation package to your local computer and upload it to your web hosting account.

There are also two ways to run the upload. The first one is to extract the archive on your local computer and use an FTP client. The second is to upload the package directly through the cPanel's File Manager and extract the files and folders to the desired location. If you want to load the software directly through your home directory, then extract the files under the public_html folder. Otherwise, if you prefer to access it through a subdomain upload the files under public_html/subfolder.

The files and folders permissions should be recursively changed to 755. This can be completed through your FTP client. Additionally, prior to performing the installation, a new database for dotProject should be created and a database user should be added to it.

Open the dotProject web location through your browser (for example: http://yourdomainname.com/). Click on the link saying Click Here To Start Installation and wait 5 seconds and you will be redirected to the installation page.

WebmastersSecure Your Joomla Website With Administrator Lock by todhost(op): 7:13am On Dec 22, 2015
Administrator Lock is a great way to manage potential threats to the Joomla website. With the administrator Lock plugin, you are able to add two security features to the administrator pages of a Joomla website:

1. URL keyword to Administrator area: Administrator lock plugin hides the administrator page to unwanted visitors unless they know a private keyword. Before you can access the admin section, you must enter the keyword as part of the URL to gain administrator login access, where they can enter their login user and password information, for example: http://yoursite.com/administrator?keyword

2. Strict personalized backend component access per user ID: Sometimes it is necessary to grant backend access to certain people and still being able to restrict their access to critical or information-sensitive administration components. This feature allows you to restrict which components are available to each backend user independently of their administrator level or any other security measures in place.

This plugin could be used to limit the access level of users therefore restricting them from peforming certain functions or making some modifications to the Joomla website.

You can download this plugin from the official website of the developer

WebmastersHow To Create A Custom 404 Error Page In Opencart by todhost(op):
To create a custom 404 error page in OpenCart will mean that anyone attempting to access something inappropriately will be automatically re-directed to this page. It's best practice to provide links back to your store, in case someone reached this page in error.

You can achieve this by simply creating a 404.html file in the root of your OpenCart store. You can use file manager to achieve this.

Here's a simple sample 404.html page we have created:

<html>
<body>
<p>The page you have requested does not exist. Please click on the link below to return to the store's home page:</p>
<a href="/index.php">Return Home</a>
</body>
</html>

You can follow this step-by-step- guide to create your own custom 404 error page in your OpenCart website.

Log into cPanel
Click on the File Manager icon
Navigate to the root directory where you have installed your OpenCart shopping cart
Click on new file in the upper left
Name the file "404.html"
Open the newly created file with the code editor

Paste the code above into the file
Click "save"
That is all. Note that you can customize your custom message.

WebmastersImportant Security Steps After An Opencart Installation by todhost(op): 5:31am On Dec 18, 2015
One of the limitations of Open Source shopping carts is that access to the core code is possible and this creates a problem as everyone can understand how the application works and that in itself create a security problem.

It is therefore important to adopt some measures that can address these problems.

In OpenCart e-commerce, there are two important steps that are necessary after installation to give additional security to the shopping cart.

1. After installation, you should remove the /install/ directory immediately. You can do this through any FTP program.
2. Change the file permissions for the config.php file in both the root directory and the /admin/ directories to 444.

These are important steps necessary to secure your OpenCart installation.

WebmastersManaging Insider Threats On An E-commerce Website by todhost(op):
Data breaches on e-commerce sites are every day experiences and makes headlines which may be familiar to us. Despite the fact that these websites use Web Application Firewalls (WAF) and secure connections, these breaches still occur. How these happen have been a source of concern for website owners and managers..

The reality is that most attacks on eCommerce sites are insider attacks, just as 80% of data breaches in enterprises come from insider threats.

One kind of insider attack involves dishonest employees, But that is not all. Most other common insider threats come from computers, servers, or credentials that have been compromised. Compromised computers have been a more common cause of data breaches.

While Web Application Firewalla (WAF) can protect from attacks coming from the web, through the eCommerce site, it is powerless against attacks coming from an internal system or compromised user.

How do insider threats happen?
