Italy's parliament has voted to cut the number of representatives in both houses by more than a third. The lower house approved a law to reduce the number of MPs from 630 to 400 and senators from 315 to 200. The reform was a manifesto promise of the populist Five Star Movement, the main party in Italy's governing coalition. They say it will streamline parliament and save hundreds of millions of euros in salaries and expenses. In a post on Twitter, Five Star said the bill - which was supported by almost all parties - would save the country €1bn (£897m) over 10 years

Oluyinka O. Olutoye, MD, PhD, has been appointed Surgeon-In-Chief at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, effective August 1. In his role, Dr. Olutoye will lead one of the largest children’s hospital surgery departments in the world. Through his leadership of 11 surgical departments, Dr. Olutoye will work to advance Nationwide Children’s common mission, philosophy and approach to excellence in patient care, dedication to outstanding clinical outcomes, commitment to academic excellence and education of the next generation of leaders in children’s surgery. He will also be appointed professor and the E. Thomas Boles chair of pediatric surgery at The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Medicine. Dr. Olutoye will serve as the primary surgical liaison between Nationwide Children’s and the OSU College of Medicine. “We are tremendously delighted to welcome Dr. Olutoye to Nationwide Children’s Hospital to further elevate the visibility and reputation of one of the best overall children’s surgical programs in the country that, through its clinical care and research, is forging the future of children’s surgery,” said Richard J. Prior to joining Nationwide Children’s, Dr. Olutoye served as co-director of the Fetal Center and the immediate past president of the medical staff at Texas Children’s Hospital. In addition to his clinical expertise, Dr. Olutoye also leads an established research program focused on the role of the inflammatory response in scarless fetal wound healing, in-utero correction of severe congenital malformations, and the early detection of necrotizing enterocolitis in preterm infants. “Nationwide Children’s Hospital is respected nationally for building outstanding integrated research and clinical programs, its seminal work in healthcare quality and patient safety, and as a leader in improving pediatric health outcomes. This is a very opportune time to be joining the organization as we build upon the already impressive success of our surgical services to help children around the country and increasingly around the world. I look forward to the privilege of leading and collaborating with this team in the next phase of our journey,” said Dr. Olutoye. Dr. Olutoye received his medical degree from Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife, Nigeria, and earned his PhD in anatomy from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA. Ghana's chief imam is a man of few words, but the 100-year-old Muslim cleric certainly knows how to make waves - by attending a Catholic Church service as part of his birthday celebrations. Pictures of Sheikh Osman Sharubutu, sitting attentively in the pews of Accra's Christ the King Catholic Church for an Easter service, went viral on social media. The grand mufti, leader of Ghana's minority Muslim community, wants to ensure that his legacy is peace - the fruit of inter-faith harmony. Not everyone was happy - some critics condemned his actions as an abomination, for a Muslim to participate in Christian worship. But Sheikh Sharubutu insisted he was not worshipping but moving the relationship between Muslims and Christians from mere tolerance to engagement. "The chief imam is changing the narrative about Islam from a religion of wickedness, a religion of conflict, a religion of hate for others, to a religion whose mission is rooted in the virtues of love, peace and forgiveness.

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja has warned Nigeria's leaders are making the country "uninhabitable", causing young people to migrate illegally to Europe. Cardinal John Onaiyekan said that if he were the president he would resign. He criticised officials for focusing only on their own lives - building mansions and travelling the world. The 75-year-old cleric said he felt ashamed when he saw trafficked Nigerian women soliciting on the streets of Rome and other Italian cities. Cardinal Onaiyekan was speaking to the media ahead of a church gathering to address migration, taking place in the Nigerian capital on Tuesday. Many Nigerian migrants come from southern Edo state, which an established base for people smugglers. Women and girls are often trafficked out of the country after being promised a job opportunity - but many are forced into prostitution. To tell you bluntly I'm ashamed, I'm ashamed - big cardinal from Abuja, I'm moving through the streets of Rome, Milan, Naples and I see my daughters on the street on sale," the cardinal told the BBC after the press conference. "I'm ashamed and I stop and even greet some of them - you can't even engage them in conversation because they were brought out of the village illiterates. All they learn and all they know on the streets of Italy is what they need for this business - I'm ashamed." The senior Catholic cleric hit out at Nigeria's politicians, saying if they had no vision on how to develop the country and provide adequate security they should not go into politics. He urged the government to "repair Nigeria" so that instead of young people emigrating, tourists would flock to the West African nation and Nigerians could travel with dignity. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-48167816

A famous Italian playboy who slept with thousands of women has died aged 63 while having sex with a 23-year-old tourist, it is reported. Maurizio Zanfanti, dubbed the 'Romeo of Rimini', was getting intimate with the woman when he had a heart attack, according to local media. Realising something was seriously wrong, the Romanian tourist alerted the emergency services, but the nightclub manager could not be saved. Also known as 'Zanza', he died on Tuesday night "after doing what he did best - loving women", the Italian newspaper Il Resto Del Carlino reported. Zanfanti, who is rumoured to have bedded more than 6,000 women in his lifetime, had reportedly known the tourist for a couple of years. In the moments before he fell ill, he was having sex with the woman in a car in Via Pradella, Rimini, in the country's Emilia-Romagna region. Some reports claim the tourist was getting dressed when Zanfanti's illness became apparent, prompting her to alert the medical services. Paramedics rushed to the scene, but the playboy passed away. Rimini's mayor described him as a "legend of the night". Zanfanti, who rose to fame promoting the nightclub Blow Up in the 1970s, once claimed to have sex with up to 200 women a summer. He said he loved each and every one of them. Throughout the years, a number of women have alleged to have had children with him. Pictures show the playboy 'king' - whose final interview was with the German newspaper BILD in 2014 - posing with different women at venues. He previously claimed to have never been to a gym. "But I did a lot of gymnastics on beds," he laughed. He also described how he would receive visits from former lovers - some married - adding that even their daughters "want to see me". The playboy, who boasted olive skin, flowing locks and "beautiful" chest hair, reportedly spent his winters working in Scandinavia. He previously told BILD that he was convinced that he had "done more for the Romagna Riviera than certain tour operators". Speaking to the newspaper four years ago, he announced his retirement, saying: "At 59, I'm getting too old for it." However, it was while displaying his legendary "loving" that he passed away earlier this week.

A policewoman in Argentina has been promoted after a photo of her breast-feeding a neglected baby at a hospital while in uniform went viral. The officer, Celeste Ayala, was among a team of officers who took six siblings into state custody in La Plata, a municipality near Buenos Aires, on Aug. 14, because they were in dismal condition at home. The youngest, who was about seven months old, was crying furiously. Ms. Ayala, who is breast-feeding a daughter 16 months old, said she sought permission from the hospital staff to breast-feed the baby. “I didn’t doubt it for a second,” she told the Argentine television show “Cronica.” “So I pulled out my breast and he became calm
