Juliana7: @ tokugawa pls sir dis bambara groundnut is dat what its called in our local parlance and in our local market? Pls your responseJust Bambara or Okpa |
Tbagwell1: Thanks for the info sir, the bambara nut do we have to toast it or just grind it like that?I think I will like to use it, cos it available in my base.straight grinding. |
mozek24: A satchet of Aquapro for 180kg is not enough. It is recommended to use a satchet for 50kg, so your 180kg should be about 4 satchets approx.Noted sir. |
excelsiorfarm: since i saw this post, i have been doing some research on this, indeed it can be used to replace soya/ fish meal in some animal feed e.g. I understand, it is good for tilapia, also that it could aid better growth liveweight in adult broilers & cockerels, still gathering info on catfish, also got to know it has good protein & CHO content, pls can u share results gotten by farmers that had been using it on catfish, when they start, how many months to market size e.t.c, thanksthe results has been tremendous, they get an average of 1kg plus.My dad is also using it. Another thing is the popular Egusi we eat,it can be mixed with Bambara, Egusi has 24% protein. Mixed with Bambara .Fish oil can only be added for flavour purposes. My 2 months old fish will be starting 4mm local tororrow. Hence,I will be milling their feed tomorrow as well. I intend to use the following formula. Soya 20kg,,bambara 50kg,,GNC 20kg,,egusi 20kg,indomie 25kg,,Gala 20,local fish 20kg,broiler starter 25kg. 1 ltr of livtovit and a sachet of Aquapro. That's for 180kg. |
prof800: Thank you sir.its a pity we don't have a good government . |
Imported feeds already contains the necessary minerals n amino acids. |
Hello house,Hope we are all doing good?Though i hardly contribute these days,i still follow the thread each blessed day.Marriage i'll say is soo sweet, wish y'll could see my tummy now....lolz.Has anyone noticed the scarcity and increase in the price of soya bean? i notice this commodity increases by 2-5% every week.I guess its due to the high demand for it ,as more farmers are now appreciating plant protein and supplementing Fishmeal with Soya bean meal. Hmm........Has anyone come across this Legume called BAMBARA GROUNDNUT?In Africa, it is the third most commonly eaten legume after groundnut and cowpea . The seeds are used in many types of foods, some of which are an important part of human diets mostly in Northern Nigeria,Mali,Niger,Chad n Burkina Faso.Bambara Groundnut is relatively high in Protein contains 19.0% protein, 47.0% carbohydrate,4.8% ash, 7.2% moisture, 7.0% oil and 1.0% free fatty acid. Its cheaper at 65 Naira/kg than Soya which sells for 140/kg.Farmers in my hood has started utilising this precious seeds to supplement Soya, some has since stopped using Soya. The benefits of this seed is that it already contains more than enough Carbohydrates. But it lacks the necessary Amino acids needed by fish. The popular Livtovit can take care of this deficiency cos it contains all the needed minerals and Amino acids,Aquapro can also be included for improved FCR. Expert opinions are welcome.........ciao! |

Lingualplus: Pls I will like to have fone no AB1xab1x. 08038178635 |
Fhemmmy: You have changed this thread from just visual to pix and thanks for that . . .thanks sir |
Infact this was my first time of using earthen ponds though I learnt from my dad's concrete ponds. B4 I started out,I had done extensive study and research on earthen ponds construction and mgt. Initially I had heavy casualties during my 1st stocking,I didn't disinfect d pond b4 stocking but I later treated them with salt and wood ash.I now have 3 ponds.d last one I built from scratch, apart from that I have done 2 for some colleagues. |
Fhemmmy: What city is this and if you wont mind to tell us the price at which per kilo was sold for, also, how many months before you harvestIts at Isara-Remo(Ijebu) in remo-north LGA of Ogun state, i sold in 4 categories.(1)Big,this are fishes that weighed more than a kilo at 490/kg (2)Medium,this ones weighed 600grams plus at 450/kg (3)small,below 500grams at 390/kg (4)melaunge/runts at 290/kg. |
They took my fish away!
|
The day i first harvested,as Oga Robonsky said ,Fish buyers could be very tricky, from scaling to sorting. This people actually left twice before we settled on price.
|
Sometimes during break i'll leave office to come and inspect my fishes, couldn't wait for harvest time.
|
It wasn't easy sometimes i feed my fish with maggots when m broke (i usually give this guy 500 to help me get maggots from poulttries around, here they are eating 20 kilos of maggots)
|
This frogs were caught in d act, trying to mate and then reproduce in my pond.
|
Finished n ready.
|
After the clearing of the pond off any available mud and grass, and replacing worn-out sand bags,we set about installing Bamboos sticks(this will serve as reinforcement for the net so as not to fall into the pond due to the size of the pond),after that we spread the net,as we all know the importance of nets on earthen ponds. In the pics below, you'll see the water inlet,d same nearby stream supplies the water(imagine d pressure?)

This was my first pond,it measures 50/60,with a dept of 4ft in the middle and 3ft on the sides. It can confidently accommodate more than 5000 fishes. But i usually stock 2500 in it.I actually acquired it in Jan. 2012 from an owner who abandoned it due to financial reasons. So i had to do little repairs on it.In the pics below you'll see the repair processes.

robonski15: BIO DISC (scaler Bio energy)in the case of someone that's using about 5 concrete ponds, with each housing 500 fishes.Does it mean he's gonna buy like 5 pieces of the Biodisc? or just drop it inside the main water tank that supplies these pond? |
excelsiorfarm: SMOKEbros no b normal smoke o! I buy them weed as energizer sometimes ogidiga, cos if I don't they won't work fast, they will just be wiling away time. And you know abokis,by 2pm they're closed for the day. So I got no choice. |
