Education / ASUU - FG Meeting Successful..., Will ASUU Call Off The Strike Now? by tommyOBlog: 10:50pm On Nov 04, 2013
Unconfirmed reports suggest that the ASUU and FG's meeting was successful.

Will the strike be called off today...?

ASUU being a body can not just call off the strike instantly, but will first have to go back to their members to give account of their meeting with FG and table the FG's new proposal before them, after which they can now collectively decide whether to call off the strike or not.

So discard any report suggesting that the strike has been called off tonight. We still have to wait for a couple of days before we hear anything official from ASUU.

Education / Why The Strike Will Still Go On - ASUU Chairman Explains [1st Part] by tommyOBlog: 5:20pm On Nov 03, 2013
Here is the transcript of an interview with the ASUU chairman UI chapter as published by Punch

Apart from union activism what other work do you do...?

I am a lecturer of the University of Ibadan, Department of Teacher Education and an Associate professor in the university.

How will you describe the attitude of President Goodluck Jonathan to the education in Nigeria?

Everybody thought that President Goodluck Jonathan's academic qualification would be an advantage for Nigeria. this is the first time we are having a president who holds a PhD and we are hoping for the best. Being a Doctor of Philosophy puts you at the peak of academic achievement because other addition will come through promotion.

But we are not only disappointed but also let down. Even the military regimes that we all condemned supported education more than what we have under Jonathan.

What are the issues that led to this strike and confrontation with the Government?

If we go by the agreement that the Federal Government had with ASUU in 2009 and the MoU signed by the FG on January 24, 2012, you will discover that the critical issue is the funding of federal universities in Nigeria. There is a need for substantial amount of money to be injected into the universities to acheive total revitalization and the two parties agreed on this. It was agreed in 2009 that a sum of N1.5trn would be required to fund the 24 federal universities then. It was also greed that we will look at the number of students in stat universities to determine how much would be needed to intervene.

Technology Market / Re: Google's "Project Ara" The Phone That Might Last Forever by tommyOBlog: 10:37pm On Oct 29, 2013
Yeah! If that is the case, tech giants like Apple, and Samsung Might just start producing Bloks - The dettachble components, instead of the whole fone itself
Technology Market / Google's "Project Ara" The Phone That Might Last Forever by tommyOBlog: 5:13pm On Oct 29, 2013
Well a couple of months ago (Over a year ago to be precise) when tech power house Google, Inc. announced that they had bought mobile phone manufacturing company Motorola - Yes those of you who still don't know, Google owns Motorola (Well Moto for short), a lot of you including yours truly wondered what in the world Google had in store for us... While a few of us also felt it was a wrong money-wasting step coupled with the fact that the Tech giants had already ventured into the mobile phone manufacturing business.

Once again Google has proven most of us wrong AGAIN! and have announced that through their mobile device branch Motorola, are in full support with Phonebloks - the ideas pioneer, and are set to develop a phone for the future, where you don't have to replace your phone just upgrade it's components.

Imagine a world where you can have a 3 year old phone and it will still be the latest., where you can upgrade or build - yes build, you mobile phone to suite you. you need a phone with a beta Camera, why change the whole phone, when you can replace the camera blok with one that has the specification you need.

First, the mobile phone, then the tablets, Laptops and so much more imagine what this can do for the future. Yes less waste, better planet and lots more.

Checkout the promotional video released by Phonebloks and how you can be a part of this revolution after the cut.

Education / ASUU Update And Other Related Issues by tommyOBlog: 12:02pm On Sep 30, 2013
Well just thought to update you guys on the latest gist concerning ASUU/FG saga and other related strike ishz...

We can confirm to you our dear readers that the recent report circling the air that the strike is going to be called off... on or before the Oct. 1 independence day... Well yours truly can confirm to you that this report is a 101% false cos, as at the time of publish ASUU has yet to reach any sort of concrete agreement with the FG on the issue.

Well in relation to the recently published OPEN LETTER TO GOVERNOR BABATUNDE RAJI FASHOLA that has been circulating the media presently, after proper investigations carried out by our correspondents we can confirm to you that all the accusations tendered by a supposed "Adeshina Johnson" is completely false. As the person of Adeshina Johnson does not exist in the school's record. Mr. Ojo himself confirmed to us that no one had come to him to write a new project or to complain about the accused, Mr. Ogunseye.

Upon Further investigation,... We got positive remarks about the accused with students and colleagues referring to the accused, Mr. Ogunseye as a quiet, gentle, no-nonsense (disciplined) man.
We employ the accuser, Mr. Adeshina Johnson to please come out with valuable evidence to prove otherwise... He is implored to contact us via email: tommyOblog@gmail.com

In other news, in the process of the investigation above we found out that NASU - LASU chapter is poised to call off its strike, as NASU - Generalz just about to beginning theirs...
Rumor has it that this dis-uniformity between the two/one body is a way of NASU - LASU showing their dissociation from NASU - General.

*sigh* whats happening to z education system in this country...

Happy independence people
