If they remove Biden they'd be stuck with Kamala Harris and that's the problem.
Harris even though younger is seen as a creep, incompetent and radical compared to Biden.
She'd be to the left of Biden on issues and she's more unlikable.
If the Dems try to bypass her then they'll have to explain to some sects of their party why they think a colored woman can't win the presidency in America.
They're definitely cornered.
I admire the fact that you fully understand worrisgoinon.

For those that know this is a subtle hint to instigate insurrection in the North.
Fortunately it is DOA.
We all (North, East, West and South) will survive these excruciating times and come out triumphant together.

Gradually, enmity is creeping in the trajectory of Northern politics.
Meaning; their unity isn't as strong as it use to be in the past, and what this means is that indirectly, the South might overtake the North in terms of power.
Very deep reasoning you got here.
The developing fault lines are a welcome development anyway.
Time to break their stronghold on the Nigerian state.

In other words, importation is valid to replace local manufacturing? I wonder why you find it difficult to say it as you mean it instead of hiding under semantics. I suspect you're very much aware of the folly of your stand.
The fact that no administration has been able to successfully implement tech transfer is part of why we are here today. It does not make tech transfer less viable rather, it makes it more desirable. What has happened last 9 years is to draw us further away from tech transfer instead of bringing us closer to it due to bad economic policies, corruption and mismanagement.
What is your proposed stop-gap measure when local production ceases? We go back to riding horses I presume. grin
Last I checked there's no nation that does not import what it either doesn't naturally have or produce.
Did I just learn "bad economic policies, corruption and mismanagement" commenced in Nigeria 9 years ago?
In this life we keep learning. grin

At this point I think you are being escapist. No one suggests there havent been difficulties before. I am in my mid forties and have lived here all my life. There has NEVER been the sort of inflation that has happened in the last one year in my adult memory. And it was triggered by specific policies tailored to please Bretton Woods institutions.

Regardless whether you like my answer, I have given one.
Its your turn.

Dont be escapist. Be fair, and intellectually honest.

PS: Is it also "not true" that we became the largest economy in Africa and have slipped to fourth in one year?
Nobody is being dishonest here.
There is unprecedented inflation presently, nobody disagrees with it.
My question is what does this change?
You're right Nigeria was listed as Number 1 economy in Africa (from Ngozi Okonjo Iweala days if I remember correctly) but folks were still wailing it had zero bearing on the economic realities of the common man.
I asked you to list the countries you know that NEVER got it economically topsy-turvy at some point in their national history but you declined. Do I term that "intellectual dishonesty" too?

Like the saying goes it's never so much about what happens, it's always more about our perception of and reaction to it. Whether we continue to wail or whether we join hands to fix Nigeria.

We can choose to cuss out this administration believing fully that a "better" man will fix Nigeria in 2027.
It's all up to us.

So who are the players that replaced those I mentioned? Cause today, batteries are wholly imported, same for this tires and cars. So if you're not implying importation, can you explain the players you're referring to?
If former administrations could not achieve technology transfer, are you implying that we should then do away with technology transfer and face importation squarely? Technology transfer is still the way to go regardless of the failings of previous administration.
If you believe that importation will lead to manufacturing, I'm interested in seeing how that model works.
Whoever is involved in the value chain that ensures I still get tyres and batteries for my car though Michelin and Exide fled Nigeria is a player. Whatever phase life brings someone quits and someone ups his game and capitalizes on it.
I was interested in being educated on what administration successfully championed technology transfer from the multinationals since the failure of this is attributed to last 1 year.. or is it 9 years?

1. 70s oil boom.
2. Early 60s, pre coup.
3. Most of the 80s, not bad.
4. Early 4th republic, not bad. OBJ was mostly a good president - 3rd Term and a few excesses barring.
5. Even the Yaradua / GEJ years saw us boom to the largest economy in Africa,

In tha last one year alone, we have slipped from that pedestal to fourth. And I predicted this last year. Our GDP has halved in just one year. Does that say nothing to you?

Now listen - however you rate these periods, the truth is we are in an extraordinary economic mess right now, the like of which this country has not experienced before. And it appears to me that you wish to wish away that fact as well as absolve the current government - and the last one - of complicity therein.

I have answered your question, answer mine.
Unfortunately this is not true.
Wailings about poverty, austerity measures, Structural Adjustment Programs, essential commodities, "suffering and smiling" "economic crunch" etc. predate practically all of us chatting on this thread. Everybody comes with the tale of how things are woeful in their time but Eldorado in former times.
Try again.
And oh.. while at it kindly list the countries you know that NEVER experienced extraordinary economic mess in their historical trajectory.

Have you considered the FDI implication and attendant pressure on the exchange rate with the inevitable riplle effects.
For heavens sake, Total just took a USD 6 Billion investment away to Angola and another to USD 600 Million to DRC and they specifically cited our policy instability.

Are you listening to investors or are you determined to support a government no matter what happens.

Examine your motivations with sincerity, thats all I advise.
You're yet to mention a good "phase" in Nigerian history.

Kukutente23:
Are you seriously seeing importation as a valid substitute for local manufacturing? No wonder the economy is comatose under APC.
It's obvious you think local manufacturing happens in a vacuum. Go and study industrialisation. The bedrock especially in 3rd world countries is technology transfer. Now how do you achieve technology transfer when foreign multinationals with requisite technologies are running from you?
You shouldn't have blind faith and beliefs. It ultimately leads to self-destruction
Never was importation mooted as a viable substitute. Other players came in, period. Exit of Exide, Michelin, Peugeot etc never meant Nigeria ground to a halt.
And speaking of technology transfer do you mind educating us on which administration in our 64 years of existence achieved this to a commendable degree? At least several of the multinationals were around for well over quarter to half a century.

Kukutente23:
It's not a new thing, true. New players? Are you sure? Take batteries and tire manufacturing for example. We had so many such factories in the 90s, nulec, duracell, exide etc. When they left, can you mention the new ones that took over? What about Dunlop, Michelin and Pirelli? Which ones took over? Both are 100% imported now. Same for textiles. Mind you, the Diageo and Tolaram venture will have Tolaram acting as a franchise for Diageo so how exactly is that new one taking over. Some of you just spill rubbish out of ignorance
It's your understanding of "new players" that's flawed. I never said new manufacturers. Didn't you just mention importation wave? That gives credence to the fact that there'll never be a vacuum. Players will come and players will go. Those needs will always be met one way or the other.. and that until we get our acts together as a people to ensure our local industries ultimately wake up to the task just as has happened in some other once labeled 3rd world countries. You probably believe that can never happen here. You're entitled to your beliefs mate. Same way I'm entitled to mine.

I don't. Neither does he. The question is stupid to be honest. A buoyant economy should be competitive not constricted. No sane human can see a company worth less than $2bn replacing a company worth £32bn as a good thing.
Tolaram have been producing kellogs and colgate for Africa on franchise. What's the quality like compared to the original?
Contrary to your half empty perspective of things I'm more disposed to knowing it's all about phases. Yes multinationals are free to pack up and leave if the Nigerian clime no longer suits their interests. It's not a new thing. Take it from me there will be no vacuum. The turf is only being prepared for totally new players.
Watch this space.

Abeg shave that matter. Hollywood isn't for mediocres. If they wanted you, they'd have definitely done all it takes to get you. Lupita Nyongo is doing excellently well. She's got what it takes.
Non of our artistes in nollywood have broken through in hollywood and that's not because of lack of trying. The only person I think who could remotely do it, is RMD.

Genevieve may have done well for herself in the Nigerian film industry and there's no disputing that but it would be stretching reality to say that she could have made it in hollywood.
My sentiment exactly.
