The Federal Government has approved the sum of N400 billion for infrastructural development and provision of basic needs for Nigerian universities in line with its plans to make them meet international standards.
President of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) Comrade Samson Ugwoke stated this at the weekend while addressing union members at SSANU’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held at the University of Abuja.
Ugwoke said document on the approval will be made available today at the meeting of the Presidential Committee on Implementation of the needs assessment in the universities with the leaders of SSANU, National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).

2018 UTME: JAMB to start sale of forms November; bans pens, wristwatches, sunglasses in centres:

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, organisers of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination, UTME has banned the use of wrist watches and pens during the conduct of its 2018 test.

The board’s Registrar, Is’haq Oloyede disclosed this to journalists on the sideline of a one-day sensitisation workshop for Computer Based Test, CBT, centre owners on Wednesday in Lagos.

According to him, the essence of the workshop is to appraise the registration and conduct of the 2017 examination.

“What we are doing here today is to appraise the registration and conduct of our past examination and we have taken some lessons from our experience.

“To this end therefore we have introduced some measures that will further add to the integrity of the registration process as well as the conduct of the examination proper.

Members of the National Youth Service Corps across the country have started to receive their allowance for October.

This development is after initial delays attributed to “technical problems with the payment platform.”

Through the concerted efforts of its technical team, the challenges that arose as a result of the upgrade to the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS) have been resolved. Once the needed connectivity was restored, corps members promptly began to receive their payments.

NYSC had, previously in a statement, apologised to corps members for the delay being experienced in the payment to Corps members and assured a resolution was achieved in a couple of days.

In a related development, the delay experienced in the payment of pension benefits by the Pension Transitional Arrangement Directorate (PTAD) was also as a result of “new features introduced on the GIFMIS platform for financial transactions.”

A new employment creation scheme for millions of Nigerians has been finalized and is set to be introduced by the National Directorate of Employment (NDE). 

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has finalised plans to introduce a new employment creation scheme known as the Sustainable Agricultural Development Training Scheme (SADTS).

The scheme which will be pilot-tested in 19 states of the federation and the FCT is to enhance food production, employment and wealth creation.

The Sustainable Agriculture Development Training Scheme is an agricultural production and distribution system that seeks to provide more profitable farm income, promote environmental stewardship and enhance quality of life for farm families and communities.

This new NDE scheme will involve three approaches, which include: field training; trainee farmer’s mentorship and linkages with development and money deposit banks and identification of off-takers.

Twenty states will benefit from the first phase of the NDE training, and the states are Abia, Anambra, Bauchi, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Ebonyi, ............
