Please help a brother. I am just a year old in the industry and thanks to God, we are not making loss. However, the profit is not up to expectation. So I want to learn more.

The feed calculation above remain the same for melange. You only need 2kg of 0.8mm and 8kg of 1.5mm Coppens to take you to juvenile in two weeks.
For melange the above feed estimates still apply you only need addition of 5bbags of 4mm, 8 bags of 6mm and 7 bags of 9mm. Total bags 32- 35

For you to maximise your pond to accommodate 500 to melange I would advice to always aerate your pond either by aerator or through flow through.
You need about 12 to 15bags.
Since you bought juvenile the first feed should be 2mm for like 3week. Your fish should be picking 4mm from 5 to 6th week of stocking.
The only way of dealing with cannibalism is constant sorting that means getting more ponds.

Greetings house, I have been a dormant follower of this thread since the inception, though was not following for some period due to very busy schedule. I finally started backyard fish farming in 2 month ago with tarpaulin ponds with 100 post fingerlings for testing. The result has been good so far with minimal mortality. However, i have been experiencing cannibalism since 2weeks ago, l saw head of 3 fishes throughout last week and 2 so far this week. What could probably be the cause? I feed them to satiation 2ice per day (Morning and Night).
Also, the water gets dirty easily now adays(Same day). The pond size is 5*6*3. I have another pond of 10*5 where I just stocked 500 fingerlings last week Saturday.
Here are my questions to the amazing gurus in the house.
*How many bags of 2mm,3mm,4mm and 6mm (Incase am targeting table size) will be enough to feed them.
*Is 3 weeks too long to sort? (I did not sort the 100fishes and its shows on the different sizes)
*Can the pond house 500 if my target is mélange?
*At what size or month will I change from 2mm to 3mm and so on.
****Please also help with the selling price of mélange and table size in Lagos****

excelsiorfarm: my bro, i saw yr post but since a consultant is involve, i decide to mellow, since u insist,u have to change water before harvest, reason is it gives u d understanding of their state, if u feeding had being uniformly,to reduce nitrate & possibly reduce pollutant. U don't necessarily have to cover, concerning vital feed, i use raanan & u can start from day one if u choose or start with coppens & a month use the feed,but will be little difference if any,hence u can stick to whichever one u want, for cannibalism, by nature catfish feed on fishes,though there are those that feed on greens also, to reduce it feed well, uniformly, sort, but the sick ones that die will be fed on. Feeding uniformly , u feed them in varying spot points i.e. Feed your fishes at different point , the first point, only the fastest, nearest & strongest will eat & that is d reason u feed at least the four corners & centre for almost perfect feed distribution. Concerning releasing d concrete ponds water into yr earthen ponds, maybe yr earth site isn't producing enough water, but such water is also pollutant because it is mostly nitrate , it can help enhance algae growth, but if much, sucks out d o2 level in your ponds. U can sort, monthly in other not To stress your fishes,but the first time of stocking, sort in 3 wks & 3 wks after, to remove great size fishes. If feed regime is ok & u try your self to feed uniformly, size difference won't be Too obvious.
