nice notion about that portfolio check but more client these days are just interestedin cheaper work thank an affective one
Value engineering is what its called when you find ways to ensure cheaper and effective. But architects hardly ever see the need to invite the professional who can help achieve this. Maybe because of pride. But you all need Quantity Surveyors and you dont even know it.

Ive had to correct architectural designs also. A well rounded beautiful work of perfection must achieve it all aesthetics, cost effectiveness, and serving its purpose perfectly. Many of your designs wouldnt see the light of day in Dubai.

And civil engineers.? I actually worked with one who just loads up beams, and columns with y16 reinf. And another one who copies and pastes bending schedules. You tell them, and they say do your own job. I know what im doing. I just sidon dey look at the ignorance even among the professionals in the Built Environment. I taya.

Just passing though. However, these things are not new here in Nigeria. So funny most people missed all this beautiful details on most public building (academic buildings, libraries, city halls etc) built between 1960 and 1990. So it's not a new thing here.

Like most people said, it's designed to reduce load.

For me, it's only suitable for specific areas. I will want to use something like this on a flat roof and areas where point load is not going to happen.
In africa, the love people possess for buildings and construction as a whole doesnt go past the dream of proudly owning one. I can tell you from experience, how dumbfounded Ive been, having to explain cornices and skirtings to client. Then i remember my last visit to the doctors, and how I was a lay man too.

Good one but what are the disadvantages.
The only disadvantage is that you incur a lot more cost in painting and rendering. Also, you need a high skilled artesan to carry out the finishing works in order to produce a perfect final finish. Also, it is not advisable in areas where there will be a lot of traffic. As it isnt designed to bear such load but in places like libraries, etc. It also provides great aesthetics.

Says a lot about you. Bothered more about the why, than about the wherefore. . . Bothered more about winning, than about truths. . . Bothered more about now, than about greater good, and purpose.

Wow! Nice one, would be a pleasure to get to relate with you I must say.
Before I get distracted, the slab you've seen are all modifications of ribbed/ waffle slabs with essentially the same background principle underlying it's design n construction.
To a lay man, what those balls, styrofoam, pots or whatever else you see do is just take up space, basically to reduce the volume of concrete used in the slab. Now the logic is simple, if I can create many supports(beams), my slab need not be solid/big / thick. This is based on the premise that the higher the design load the thicker the slab has to be, also like someone mentioned, any concrete u have below the neutral zone is a waste( study civil engineering to understand this) ie anything below the reinforcement of a slab is just cover. Its like the 'ay' you have in the word OKAY, absolutely useless.
The beams provided are spaced at less than 500mm spacing along the shorter span in a one way slab(ribbed) or in both ways (waffle slab). This reduces the dead weight significantly without affecting the serviceability and ultimate limit state design considerations. Note that the materials used to fill the voids can be removed so it's not for soundproofing or insulation, those are just added benefits if you keep the material. The primary reason we engineers design ribbed/waffle slabs is when we have long spans panels exceeding 7metres along both axis, a drop beam and slab thickness of more than 200mm becomes excessive. Another reason is if the design load is high eg a library or hospital would have a live load consideration in excess of maybe 10KN/m2 which translates into plenty loadddddddd! That's why yabatech library that someone mentioned and most other such structures have waffle slabs.
This method has been perfected by Nigerian engineers, and we would continue to tweak it as more technological advance is made.
This building is somewhere in lagos, and it has a ribbed slab that had the void material removed, it's beautiful, lovely and it's still standing.
I don talk story sha, but it's like doctors talk, u have to belong to understand.
Kudos to the other quality and well informed engineers here! NICE,NIstructE.
Im the one who mentioned yabatech structure. I belong. Im part of a thriving constrn team. Im no layman. I think u didnt read my posts or what i was replying to.

That was Genesis 6:7. But if you go down to verse 8, one man it was found favour in the LORD's sight in the person of NOAH. Do I need to remind you that sin came into this world as a result of the sin of a woman?

Are you by any stretch of ignorance trying to assert that GOD regretted creating the human male? HE was talking about the HUMAN RACE.

Cheating is not a prerogative of any man. But the problem with the 21st century feminist is that she foolishly thinks what is good for the goose is good for the gander!

Sex takes place inside a woman. It is her vulva, her labia that gets parted open by man's probing stick. Whether gently or roughly is his prerogative. You even have to be well lubricated in order to take him in comfortably.

He finds his way deep down into your abyss
Where your tissues are raw and supper soft.
His entrance is an intrusion to your most delicate vulnerability.
He leaves you with a parting gift of little fluids that move and breathe.
They ll travel thru your very core, knitting themselves in your womb, changing your very substance. It is a part of him he just left inside of you.
You'll carry it for days but if it's journey is successful, you'll carry it for months, with a permanent change inwardly and outwardly. But he remains the same all this while, because he is a MAN.

GOD wasn't foolish that he never permitted women out of concessions to go into polyandry. HE is the author of sex not men.

I'd rather talk about those nails on your DP than go on with this truth which modern woman finds so unsettling.
Looool! Even in the speaks you see the void. But you talk and talk, and the void cannot b perceived. When a man throws a woman away for cheating, its not because her body has been used raw. No. At that time, he doesnt even care, he might even add beating to it.

When a man throws a woman away, its because hes been hurt that another man found his way into his place of zen. His sole place where he is lord. He takes his woman down, and owns her... then he imagines someone else doing same. Its not because her folds have been violated.

Now, a man can be hurt that his woman has been "used " by another, but a woman has no right to be hurt that her man is giving it to others?

Also, a womans desire to cheat isnt about doing what men do. But as men are moved by what they see, a woman is moved by what she hears. No matter how violent or rough the copulation may be, a woman will spread it wide, if a guy is saying sweet nothings and paying her attention, especially if the man shes been tied to has told her shes worth nothing with his deeds and utterances.

Now many woman have tried hard to resist the sweet nothings, knowing full well its a recipe for disaster. But men refuse.to.do same, and even rub it in the womans face in the process. When will the woman no resign and decide to please herself out of the frustration of rejection, succombing to the relief of being wanted. Even if she knows it might just be an act...

Also... dont pick points from everywhere just to suit your destination. God never permitted polygamy, as he never permitted polyandry. Since u.quoted Noah... i believe u are talking christian. If you are talking the other religions, then Indian Gods permitted polyandry also. One God... different instructions, seems like people just hold on to what works for them, and use religion as a tool for restriction and control. How do u convince an atheist, that your points are true to form without including God?

Women are not robots YES! But prompted the hates?

I can't believe man will just wake and hate his wife.

We only heard from the woman.
Lol! Not this again. Somehow, its the womans fault. She deserves the hate shes receiving. Woman, work on yourself, make sure you are good enough, and stop being the person that u have been that has now made him hate you. All his actions and attitude, its all your fault. May God help us. The institute is rife with different kinds of opinions and states of mind as this. And that is why its crumbling.

surely this is anti-Nigerian engineers/contractors

ahhh you want to reduce concentrate/ cost hmm na if una building collapse now una go dey blame supervisors Oga H'add money make ur house fine well well like dasuki own
Acrually, excess concrete load manytimes result into collapse. Concrete is dead load. All engineering designs are supposed to ensure the optimal use of concrete so that it will not eventually pull down the structure. And the costliest building is not the strongest. It is the strutural design and attention to details and quality that produce a well standing building

The above explanations covered the idea for its use. I will not recommend it in Nigeria because the method requires close supervision and clear structural mathematical calculation. Less me just say there is less room for mistake when building such deck. The iron used has to be the right Fy and the concrete right Fc as well. Concrete characteristic is compression strength, while iron's is tension. Tension is experience in the bottom of a slab while compression is exact on the top section of a slab. if the bottom section does not deform excessively, then the concrete at the bottom area of a slab do not serve much engineering purpose other then composition for the iron rod. Anyways, i have to stop here before i loss non-engineering NL
Please stop. Go to Yabatech library. You will find the waffle slab there. The structure has been standing for many yrs. In all forms of slab construction, we all focus on using the right Fy iron and Fc for concrete. We are aware of tensile strength and tensile strain. All this is what a civil engineer takes into consideration before putting together his structural design. Stop underrating the nigerian construction industry. Many of us take our jobs seriously.

I am liking this, dieting can be so stressful though. I just hope I can get it right this time.
Hello, the best method is to just take it easy on yourself. Dont expect quick immediate results slow and steady, you will definitely keep it up for a life time.

Try something first... henceforth, try and remove white rice and replace it with brown rice. Remove white bread, and replace with wheat bread. If you cant get wheat bread, come up with ideas of what else you can eat, apart from what your body is already used to.

Brief note before we go into the weekend plan.
1. When dieting, you get quick results if you start your day with a cup of warm water+lime+honey

Waters practically wakes you up, lime cleanses your system and honey is honey! warm water speeds up the slimming effect of this mix

2. Take a brisk walk at least 30 minutes daily. You can share it in two, 15 minutes in the morning, and evening. You can even just perambulate ur compound... just get active.

3. Try not to eat later than 7pm.

Habits develop over time. It might seem difficult at first, but with consistency, and determination... it becomes easy breezy. Your stomach walls will contrast by urself and you wont feel so hungry after a while.

Weekend meal plan will be up tomorrow. Have a good evening.

Let me know how you feel about this plan, and if you want to try it out.

Reach out, when you take your journey in groups the more motivated you will be.

You're not alone.

Dieting isnt for slimming and vanity alone. Its for our total wellbeing, avoiding health problems when we grow older, and also developing a healthy attitude towards life generally.

Remember, you are what you eat!

Good night.

on the Average, A woman should consume 1500 calories daily to maintain your current weight, a man 2500. The diet above is about 1200 give or take which is about -300 from daily requirement and still healtyhy
. look at it this way to lose 1 pound, you have to drop 3500 calories, either from exercising or meals. foll0wing this meal plan you will lose about 2pounds in 3weeks without even realising you are on a diet.

if on the otherhand, this is too slow for you, look through the diet and hand pick the ones with the lowest calories for your weekly diet and also try this
no jam/butter with your bread,
replace full milk with skimmed milk
reduce or take out completely sugar
replace rice or spagetti with the wheat version
no fried food
At this rate your would lose atleast 1 pound a week ( which is unhealthy o! I don talk my own).

As with everything in life, moderation is key. They very simple formula to weight loss is burning more calories than you take in.

Average person burns between 1600 – 2000 calories per day by just being alive. To lose weight, you have to take in less that 1600 – 2000 calories. If you live a active life or work at a job that requires lots of activities/manual labor, that number goes up.

Remember, starvation is not good for the body. Avoid unhealthy snacks and sugary drinks

Combine this with an active lifestyle and you are well on your way with your weight loss journey.
