The Federal Government has called for the extension of Google Station’s free WiFi services to markets in Nigeria.

The Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, disclosed this in Lagos on Friday while declaring open the 32nd Lagos International Trade Fair.

He said, “We are currently facilitating an innovative product being rolled out by Google, the Google Station where free WiFi is provided in public places. So we now have Google Station in six different locations, including Palms Shopping Mall, Landmark Centre, the University of Lagos, MM2, the domestic airport, computer village and Ikeja City Mall.

“But for us, the more interesting part of it is that we are asking them to roll out in markets across Nigeria. So, in the next few months, they will be in Onitsha Main Market; in Gbagi, Ibadan; in Kuto Market in Abeokuta; in the Kaduna Central Market, Sura Market and Lagos/Abuja international airport by the end of the year.”

According to Osinbajo, the government believes that by democratising access to the Internet in public places and in markets, more people can do their business and receive information, and the information can be cheaply delivered to them.

A man has been rearrested for stealing, barely 24 hours after completing a jail term for stealing in Ogun State

The suspect, Kingsley Chukwu, who posed as a genuine passenger, had dispossessed a commercial motorcyclist of his bike after knocking him unconscious with a sharp object.

A distress call was, however, received by Onipanu Police Division in Otta, about the incident, following which police operatives combed the entire area and succeeded in apprehending Chukwu, while his accomplice escaped.

The victim was immediately rushed to the hospital, where he is responding to treatment.

A young Nigerian lady, Aisha Kolere died in Abuja on April 21 following a long battle with leukemia, cancer of the blood.

The young lady according to her have gone through series of treatments to suppress the cancer which she was positively diagnosed to in 2016, but resurfaced in 2017.

She said she could neither play, go to school, move with friends, and other normal activities.

The police in Lagos state has arrested Taiwo Oyelabi, 50, living in Community Road, Badore, Iba, for sexually abusing and impregnating his daughter, 21. The suspect is a security guard. The Benue State Police Command has rescued a Cameroonian woman who was allegedly kidnapped in 1990, under a spell in Calabar, where she had gone to sit for WAEC.

Narrating her ordeal during the 28 years long captivity, Martha Eyong says she was kidnapped at the age of 16 when the suspect, a 78-year-old man, Ali Omonya Ameh, sprayed her with a white substance making her to do anything he instructed.

The suspect was first taken to Lagos then moved to Otukpo LGA of Benue state, where she spent most of her adult life under threats, isolation and forced relationship that produced two children as a result of random rape by the suspect.

She said, “We were buying things to eat in from of one canteen near the school when he came by my side and said I should look at him. He was an elderly man like my father so I did not suspect him for anything.

So he just poured me powder with a handkerchief and asked what I wanted to buy. I told him I was buying things and he asked for the money I was carrying.” According to Martha, the man duped her of the sum of N400 then, and whisked her to an unknown destination.

She added, “Anything he tells me to do, I will just be following him like a goat. At times when I ask myself why I am following this man, he will pour me powder again.”

Hope, however, came for Martha when she claimed to have been delivered by a cleric in a church who later led to her becoming conscious. Upon gaining her consciousness, she quickly alerted the police who swung into action by arresting the suspect who confessed to committing the crime.

According to her, one of her daughters has already graduated from the university while the other one is currently a student of the Federal University of Agriculture Makurdi.

On his part, the victim’s father, Mr Michael Eyong wants the police to secure justice on his daughter over the trauma he claimed to have passed through. The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who describes the case as an interesting angle to kidnapping says the suspect will face the law.
