...Seeks General Hospital in Ibiono Ibom

The Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. (Barr) Ime Bassey Okon, has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, for the collaborative efforts in delivering a 100-bed Renewed Hope Mother and Child Specialist Hospital to the people of Ibiono Ibom.

The federal lawmaker, who joined other dignitaries at the official commissioning of the world-class facility in Oko Ita on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, described the project as a landmark intervention in the area of healthcare delivery, bringing long-awaited relief to thousands of families in the federal constituency.

Barr. Okon, while addressing the gathering, expressed deep appreciation for the strategic partnership between the Federal Government and Akwa Ibom State Government that birthed the hospital, which he described as a significant milestone in actualizing Sustainable Development Goal 3—Good Health and Well-being.

“For over 30 years, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area had no government-owned hospital of this standard. This specialist hospital is, without doubt, a life-saving intervention. I sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno for this gift to our people,” he stated.

He however emphasized that while the new facility is a welcome development, it must be complemented with a full-fledged General Hospital to serve the broader population of the area and strengthen the region’s primary and secondary healthcare systems.

“As a representative of the people, I passionately appeal to both the Federal and State governments to consider the urgent establishment of a General Hospital in Ibiono Ibom. This will further consolidate on today’s milestone and ensure that our people enjoy access to comprehensive healthcare,” Okon added.

Commissioning the project, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, who represented the Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, lauded the facility as a key driver in improving maternal and child health and a clear demonstration of the government’s Arise Agenda in alignment with the Renewed Hope Agenda and the SDGs.

Also speaking at the ceremony, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, reaffirmed the Federal Government’s resolve to extend access to quality healthcare to rural communities. She described the Ibiono Ibom project as one of several flagship health interventions aimed at bridging health infrastructure gaps nationwide.

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekemini John, who conducted a tour of the facility, highlighted the hospital’s state-of-the-art medical technology tailored for maternal and pediatric care. He reiterated that the hospital is a response to the region’s challenges with maternal and infant mortality.

The Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council, Rt. Hon. Asuakak Umoh, in his remarks, appreciated the work, noting the historic impact, and describing the facility as first ever since the creation of Ibiono Ibom.

Other dignitaries at the event included Senator Ekong Sampson, Senator Ita Enang, Engr. Mohammed Bala Saulawa (Secretary of Programmes, OSSAP-SDGs), Hon. Moses Essien (Chairman, House Committee on Health, Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly), and several officials from federal and state health agencies.

PoliticsA’Ibom: Land Grabbing Disguising As State Creation - Nduese Essien by trendingnow247(op): 10:02pm On Aug 01, 2025
…advises Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio against being used as political mercenary

‎The Attah of Eket, Chief Nduese Essien, has issued a stern warning against ongoing attempts to annex Ibibio ancestral lands under the guise of state creation, calling such moves “land grabbing in disguise.”

‎He made the statement while addressing the installation ceremony of the Oku Ibom Ibibio, His Eminence, Ntenyin (Dr.) Solomon Etuk, as the Grand Patron of Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio in Uyo.

‎Speaking at the high-profile event, Chief Essien, a revered elder statesman and former federal legislator, recounted a century-long history of aggressive efforts to seize control of the Ibibio coastline, particularly the Stubbs Creek Forest, which he said had been lawfully defended by the Ibibio people up to the Privy Council in London.

‎"Today, the same people, with new allies from neighbouring states, are trying again this time under the guise of creating an Obolo State," Chief Essien declared.

‎"Let me emphasise unambiguously: any attempt to appropriate Ibibio land must be vehemently rejected at all times.

“The ill-fated expedition has been exposed and must come to an end. No part of Ibibio land will be annexed.”

‎He decried the repeated attempts at encroachments, highlighting the second wave of aggression through violence in 1993, which was halted by the Justice Ephraim Akpata Commission of Inquiry, and a third in 2014 during the National Conference, where collaborators sought to merge the area with a part the neighbouring River State for a proposed “Oil Rivers State.”

‎Chief Essien's remarks drew resounding applause from the audience, which included traditional rulers, top government dignitaries, professionals, youth leaders, and the press.

‎While the Grand Patron installation of the Oku Ibom Ibibio was the central event, the Attah of Eket used the opportunity to challenge Mboho Mkparawa Ibibio and other sociocultural organizations to rise beyond ceremonial functions and play a stronger role in protecting Ibibio heritage, advocating for justice, and influential opinions on national discourse.

‎He praised Mboho’s achievements since its establishment in 1987, including educational institutions, agricultural enterprises, tourism outfits and cultural initiatives, but urged its leadership to resist being used as a platform for personal political ambition.

‎“Mboho must develop the courage to speak truth to power,” he said. “Its loyalty must be to the people, not to any political establishment.”

‎Addressing the youth directly, Chief Essien emphasized the importance of cultural preservation and historical consciousness, calling on them to speak the Ibibio language fluently, uphold traditions, and reject vices such as cultism and disrespect for elders.

‎The installation of the Oku Ibom Ibibio as Grand Patron was hailed as a symbolic alignment between traditional authority and the aspirations of the Ibibio people.

According to Chief Essien, “the Oku Ibom now serves as a link between our glorious past, our beautiful present, and the promise of a bright future.”

‎The ceremony closed with renewed calls for unity among all Akwa Ibom people, with the Statesman’s call on sociocultural groups to pursue a collective identity and direct their energy toward national relevance and developmental programmes.

PoliticsGov Eno Strengthens Media Ties, Commissions NUJ Complex, Presents Cars To Exco by trendingnow247(op): 9:50pm On Aug 01, 2025
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has further strengthened his ties with the media community as he commissioned an ultra- modern NUJ Auditorium Complex and presented brand new cars to members of the State Working Committee of the Union.

In his remark, before inauguration of the complex located within the Union's Secretariat along Information Drive in Uyo, the Governor commended the State Council of Nigeria Union of Journalists for promoting the ARISE Agenda and the Akwa Ibom project.

He further commended the Union members for using their various platforms to promote the State rather than demarketing it as obtainable in some other places.

"You have made your profession not about fighting the Governor or government, but about your true loyalty to Akwa Ibom for its meaningful development and progress.

"Why? Because this is our brand. This is the only State that we have. Government would come, government would go, but Akwa Ibom remains constant. So, I want to thank you and your leadership for the collaborative work that you have done in the State," he stated.

In his appreciation of the good works of the NUJ leadership, the Governor donated vehicles to the outgoing State Executive and appointed the outgoing State Chairman of the Union, Comrade Amos Etuk, as a Senior Special Assistant on Local Media.

"This appointment comes because we expect you to continue with the good work; continue to galvanize the media in development of our State," he stressed.

The Governor appreciated the State NUJ leadership for naming the new NUJ Auditorium Complex after his late wife, Patience Kemi Umo Eno, saying, "It is not something that I expected. It's a bit emotional, but as I continue to see people immortalize her, it gives us, as a family, comfort that she didn't live her life in vain. So, I want to thank you so much for this honour."

Pastor Eno assured the in-coming State Executive members of the Union of the Government's readiness to continue to work in partnership for the development and growth of the State.

"For the incoming NUJ Exco that will be elected tomorrow, whoever will win, please, let there be no victor no vanquished. Let there be no bad news concerning the elections. Continue to work together in unison for the overall progress of the State," he said.

Earlier, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Amos Etuk thanked Governor Eno for fulfilling his campaign promise to the union by completing the Secretariat project which has been abandoned for about 20 years.

He acknowledged the Governor's numerous contributions towards the success of the project even before he assumed office as Governor, describing the achievement as a historical footprint which has never been recorded anywhere in the country since independence.

Highlighting the resolution of the last congress of the union, he said they decided to name the newly commissioned auditorium after the late first Lady, Mrs Patience (Kemi) Umo Eno as a mark of honour and in memory of her passionate contributions to the development of the State.

Comrade Etuk therefore, pledged the Union's commitment to supporting the Umo Eno-led administration to ensure the successful implementation of the ARISE Agenda.

On his part, the Commissioner for Information, Hon Aniekan Umanah, and the President of NUJ, Comrade Alhasan Yahaya, commended the Governor for his exceptional support and partnership with the Union, urging journalists to reciprocate the gesture by remaining resolute in their support for the Governor and development of the State.

The event was graced by members of the State Executive Council, members of the State Working Committee of the NUJ, the political class, and the general public.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom’s 76 Oil Wells: The Distortions In Linus Obogo’s Abiku Myth by trendingnow247(op): 7:38am On Jul 29, 2025
Linus Obogo’s article, “Cross River’s 76 Oil Wells and the ‘Abiku’ Paradox,” is undeniably eloquent and steeped in mythic imagery. But when stripped of metaphor and reduced to facts, it is also a troubling mix of historical perversion, legal misrepresentation, and rhetorical manipulation. It dresses sentiment as truth, mythologizes a settled legal matter, and, most dangerously, threatens to exacerbate needless discord between two sister states that should be building bridges, not burning them.

Let’s begin with the central falsehood: that Cross River State was “robbed” of 76 oil wells by Akwa Ibom. This claim is not only factually incorrect but deliberately deceptive. In his well-crafted sophistry, Obogo attempts to rewrite history by painting a lawful and evidence-based process as some grand theft engineered by Akwa Ibom.

The truth is far simpler: Akwa Ibom never took what wasn’t rightfully hers. The oil wells in question lie within Akwa Ibom’s maritime boundaries as determined by scientific demarcation, verifiable geographic data, reinforced by constitutional processes and the judgment of the Supreme Court.

In 2012, Nigeria’s apex court issued a definitive ruling: Cross River State ceased to be a littoral state following the ceding of the Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon under the Green Tree Agreement and International Court of Justice (ICJ) directive. As such, it lost any basis to claim offshore oil wells. This legal reality did not arise from conspiracy, but from international diplomacy and the recalibration of Nigeria’s maritime boundaries. Yet Obogo ignores this context and instead directs his ire at Akwa Ibom, irresponsibly stoking regional grievance with a narrative that collapses under factual scrutiny.

Obogo’s use of Abiku - a Yoruba mythology tragic spirit-child who returns again and again to torment its mother may be poetic, but it is ultimately misplaced and misleading in this context. Comparing Cross River’s loss of maritime rights to an Abiku myth distorts a legitimate geopolitical and judicial process into an irrational curse. It casts Cross River as a helpless victim of fate, rather than a state navigating the outcome of an international treaty. More critically, it romanticizes a legal issue and weaponizes cultural imagery to stir resentment against Akwa Ibom, which has simply defended its rightful entitlements within the law.

Oil wells are not spirit-children wandering between worlds - they are fixed, measurable national assets governed by cartography, constitutional law, and federal oversight. Akwa Ibom did not inherit them through mystical reincarnation or bureaucratic magic; it claimed them because the facts, maps, and laws placed them squarely within its jurisdiction. In this case, Abiku has been conclusively laid to rest and no amount of rhetorical mischief can resurrect it.

Obogo goes further to accuse respected federal institutions like the National Boundary Commission (NBC) and the Revenue Mobilization, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) of complicity in what he terms a “heist wrapped in bureaucracy.” This is not only baseless but profoundly irresponsible. These institutions followed established legal processes and technical evaluations rooted in Nigeria’s constitutional and judicial frameworks. They did not “gift” anything to Akwa Ibom but acted on clear legal direction, applying cartographic science and judicial authority to determine rightful ownership. To suggest otherwise is to undermine national institutions and insult the integrity of governance itself.

It is even more morally reprehensible that Obogo would brand Akwa Ibom as a “beneficiary at a rigged auction” - a deeply insulting and unfounded assertion. Labeling the state’s firm, evidence-based defense of its position as “gloating” or “arrogance” is a deliberate mischaracterization aimed at demonizing a state that has simply upheld the rule of law.

Elder Aniekan Umanah, Akwa Ibom’s Commissioner for Information, was not boasting when he described the matter as “sealed” and “settled” - he was stating the obvious as reiterated by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Uko Udom, SAN: that the Supreme Court has spoken, and federal agencies have acted accordingly. When did it become arrogance to defend the outcome of a lawful process? Should Akwa Ibom remain perpetually apologetic or open to endless political negotiations over a matter that has been conclusively adjudicated? Justice does not become unjust simply because it does not favour Cross River.

Obogo’s attempt to use the citing of military and public infrastructure like the Eastern Naval Command or the Nigerian Ports Authority in Calabar as evidence of maritime status is equally misleading. Strategic infrastructure does not equate to territorial entitlement. One can host a naval base inland. But to claim offshore oil wells, a state must have a legally recognized maritime boundary, something Cross River no longer possesses.

Perhaps most troubling is Obogo’s reckless invocation of infamous court decisions like Plessy v. Ferguson and Dred Scott to suggest that the Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of Akwa Ibom is akin to judicial atrocity. Such comparisons are inflammatory and intellectually dishonest. They diminish the gravity of real historical injustices and falsely equate them to a ruling grounded in law, fact, and international diplomacy. Cross River’s disappointment, while understandable, does not equate to systemic injustice. There was no theft, no fraud, and certainly no moral crime but only a judicial conclusion rooted in undeniable geopolitical change.

Akwa Ibom will continue to stand by the truth, defend its entitlements, and refuse to be shamed into silence by the emotional blackmail of political rhetoric. To put it succinctly, the 76 oil wells matter is not akin to an ‘Abiku’ spirit that Obogo and his kinsmen can invoke at will to torment the peace loving people of Akwa Ibom State. It is the story of a child returning home finally, and rightfully to where it has always belonged.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom And The 76 Oil Wells: A Case Anchored In Law, Not Sentiment by trendingnow247(op): 8:31am On Jul 26, 2025
As tensions continue to simmer over the ownership of 76 offshore oil wells between Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, the Ministry of Information in Akwa Ibom has reaffirmed its legal and peaceful stance on the matter. In a fact-based campaign titled “Grounded in Law, Guided by Peace,” the state government outlines its unwavering commitment to truth, constitutional justice, and inter-state harmony.

This article examines the core facts, legal precedents, and broader implications of the dispute, guided by journalistic principles of accuracy, fairness, and public interest.

Judicial Decisions: The Backbone of Akwa Ibom’s Claim

At the heart of the dispute lies two landmark Supreme Court judgments — delivered in 2005 and 2012 — which unequivocally affirmed Akwa Ibom’s ownership of the contested oil wells. These rulings were based on international law, geographic facts, and constitutional interpretations, not political influence or emotion.

Contrary to public perception often fueled by sensational headlines, the state’s legal victories were rooted in due judicial process. As such, Akwa Ibom insists that any ongoing challenge should be addressed in court, not in the court of public opinion.

A Record of Restraint Amid Provocation

Despite being the consistent legal victor, Akwa Ibom has not resorted to confrontation or inflammatory rhetoric. The state government stresses that it has only acted in self-defense — responding to lawsuits initiated by Cross River State.

This position reflects a deliberate posture of restraint, respect for the rule of law, and adherence to due process — a contrast to the disruptive reactions that have followed unfavorable judgments on the other side.

Accepting Loss Without Protest: A Model of Compliance

Akwa Ibom’s peaceful acceptance of two major legal losses — including the 2005 Supreme Court’s transfer of 24 villages in Itu LGA to Cross River and the 2011 loss of 86 oil wells to Rivers State — is highlighted as proof of its law-abiding character. No protests. No propaganda. Just quiet compliance.

This history stands in contrast to the reaction from Cross River following the rulings in favor of Akwa Ibom — reactions that have often stirred public unrest and political agitation.

Peace, Not Politics: Akwa Ibom’s Commitment to Unity

In a gesture of goodwill, Akwa Ibom had extended a ₦250 million monthly ex-gratia payment to Cross River. This was not a court-mandated obligation, but an act of regional empathy and reconciliation — an effort to maintain peace and socio-economic stability across borders.

The state has also engaged respected elders and leaders to facilitate ongoing mediation, reinforcing its pursuit of unity over division.

A Peaceful State Bound to Justice

The Ministry reiterates that Akwa Ibom will never compromise its legal entitlements. Though committed to peace and federal harmony, the government makes it clear that its position is not negotiable when it comes to the rights of its people and state integrity.

The state is not opposed to dialogue — including recent overtures from President Bola Tinubu — but insists that any settlement must respect existing court decisions and not diminish the constitutional rights already affirmed.

Rejecting Media Warfare, Embracing Truth

While Cross River has reportedly engaged in media-driven campaigns, Akwa Ibom emphasizes that it relies on facts, legal documents, and judgments — not propaganda. The state government is deliberate in maintaining a posture defined by “truth, not noise,” and encourages a more civil, evidence-based national discourse.

Beyond Oil: A Fight for Heritage and Dignity

The state sees the issue as transcending oil — touching on the rights, identity, and dignity of its citizens across generations. For Akwa Ibom, this is about legacy and lawful ownership, not just resources.

Geographic and Legal Realities: Littoral Status Settled

A crucial point in the dispute is the littoral status of Cross River State, which was lost following the International Court of Justice ruling on Bakassi. The Supreme Court has since confirmed that Cross River is no longer a coastal state — invalidating its offshore claims both legally and geographically.

Conclusion: Law, Legacy, and the Line Between Right and Might

As tensions persist, one truth remains: Akwa Ibom’s position is grounded not in aggression or ambition, but in lawful entitlement and peaceful resolve. The 76 oil wells are more than a resource — they are a symbol of the state’s ability to pursue justice through legal means, even in the face of provocation.

In an era where media noise often overshadows legal fact, Akwa Ibom is choosing the harder, more principled path — one that could ultimately serve as a national model for conflict resolution.

PoliticsIme Okon Hails Gov. Eno As Construction Begins On Ukpakon-okpoto-ikpanya Road by trendingnow247(op): 11:38am On Jul 23, 2025
The Member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the National Assembly, Hon. (Barr.) Ime Bassey Okon, has commended Governor Umo Eno over the commencement of construction work on the Ukpakon-Okpoto-Ikpanya Road.

The road, which links several rural communities in Ibiono Ibom and Ini Local Government Areas, had remained in a deplorable state for decades, making movement difficult and cutting residents off from all activities. Its construction by the Akwa Ibom State Government has been described by the lawmaker as a life-changing intervention for the people.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Okon, who is the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs, said the project is a direct reflection of Governor Umo Eno’s commitment to rural development as enshrined in the ARISE Agenda.

“I want to thank our leader, His Excellency, Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D, for the genuine love he has shown to our people. Communities like Ikpanya and Okpoto had waited endlessly for this road. Today, their hope has been rekindled. This project is a major relief, and a sign of better days ahead,” he said in a statement.

The Barrister and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Nigeria further noted that the road, when completed, will improve rural mobility and enhance agricultural productivity and trade across Ibiono Ibom, Ini, and neighbouring communities in the South East region that share boundaries with Akwa Ibom.

He also applauded the indigenous contractor handling the project, Hensek Integrated Services, describing the company as capable and committed to quality delivery. Obong Okon expressed confidence that the firm would deliver a durable road that would serve as an economic lifeline for farmers and traders moving goods from the hinterlands to urban markets.

The federal lawmaker urged his constituents to cooperate fully with the contractors and ensure the safety of workers and equipment throughout the project duration.

He added that the people of Itu/Ibiono Ibom will remain grateful to the Governor and will show appreciation come 2027 by supporting his re-election and other APC candidates.

PoliticsTRENDING: Akwa Ibom Government Dismisses 76 Oil Wells Scare by trendingnow247(op): 9:25am On Jul 21, 2025
The Akwa Ibom State Government has dismissed the renewed controversies surrounding its ownership of 76 offshore oil wells, maintaining that the Supreme Court decision on the issue is final.

The Apex Court in July 2012 had placed a seal on Akwa Ibom’s ownership of the oil wells, dismissing claims to it by the Cross River State Government.

But recent reports attributed to the government of Cross River State, suggested that the issue of ownership of the wells would be up for review and that a political settlement was in the offing.

But in a swift reaction; the Government of Akwa Ibom State is firm that a decision made by the apex court of the land is judgement in rem and cannot neither be appealed nor deliberated further.

Addressing the issue on ARISE NEWS TV, Sunday morning, the State Commissioner for Information, Elder Aniekan Umanah, urged the public to disregard any circulating claims or rumours, emphasizing that the July 2012 ruling of the Supreme Court remains final and binding.

"This is a settled matter. The Supreme Court, in July 2012, ruled on this matter and placed a permanent seal on this conversation.

“That is the highest court of the land. Once the Supreme Court gives a ruling, it is final. This is not a matter we should even talk about.

“This is a matter that Akwa Ibom State did not even take to court. I mean it is sealed”, he argued.

The Commissioner also took the opportunity to spotlight the progress being recorded under Governor Umo Eno’s administration, noting that the ARISE Agenda continues to deliver visible results across various sectors of the state.

He highlighted achievements in education, agriculture, rural development, youth empowerment, security, micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and road infrastructure, noting that the ARISE Agenda is not just a policy; but a real experience for Akwa Ibom people, as its impacts are being felt across the nook cranies of the State.

He gave further insight on the tourism sector where Governor Eno is turning a ravine ravaged community into a one-stop tourism and hospitality resort, the ARISE PARK in Uyo, the Marine Resort In Oron, the 5000 Seats International Convention Center and Ibom Tropicana Hotel project among indicators of the plans to make the State a tourism hub, and also harped on the initiatives to sustain the peace enjoyed in the State.

On the recent visit by Governor Umo Eno, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, and two other Senators from the State to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commissioner Umanah described the visit as a strategic move to strengthen ties with the Federal Government for the accelerated development of the state.

He mentioned that discussions during the visit focused on securing federal support for critical infrastructure projects in Akwa Ibom, including the Ibom Deep Seaport and other priority initiatives.

It would be recalled that following discontent over the political solution on the oil wells by the then President Olusegun Obasanjo Administration, the Cross Rivers state government under Liyel Imoke had dragged the Federal Government and the Akwa Ibom state government to court on grounds that some of the oil wells ceded to her by virtue of the agreement reached at a meeting called by the former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, in 2006, were not released.

Cross River lost her status as a littoral state after the Federal Government ceded the oil-rich Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroon in 2008.

The seven justices of the court headed by the outgoing Chief Justice of Nigeria, Dahiru Musdapher, in their ruling, submitted that the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMFAC) was right in attributing the oil wells to Akwa Ibom at the inter-agencies meeting.

Before delivering the lead judgment, the court dismissed Cross River’s application, pointing out that the agreement which initially gave the state rights to the 76 oil wells was frustrated by the handing over of Bakassi to Cameroon.

Mrs Adekeye held that the 13 per cent derivation revenue on the 76 oil wells between Akwa Ibom state and Cross River State must continue to be attributed to the state that has the maritime territory.

“Cross River State no longer has any maritime boundary,” she said.

“It is landlocked. The plaintiff not being a littoral state and not having a maritime boundary, the 76 oil wells, which are the subject matter of the suit, which lie offshore and within a maritime territory, cannot be attributed to it.

“The plaintiff has no maritime territory since the cessation of Bakassi Peninsula, and the Cross River estuary, which used to be part of the state prior to August 2008. The present position of the plaintiff cannot be blamed on any government agency, particularly the National Boundary Commission and the RMAFC. The two statutory bodies must perform their statutory duties based on facts and realities to compile the indices for the payment of the derivation revenues to entitled states,” she said.

PoliticsUMO ENO: The Denzel Washington Of Akwa Ibom by trendingnow247(op): 9:28pm On Jul 12, 2025
“There is no Black Panther without Denzel Washington.”- Chadwick Boseman

Years before the world knew his name, Chadwick Boseman stood at the crossroads of a dream and a dead end. He had gained admission into a prestigious acting program at Oxford University, but couldn’t afford the fees. Unknown to him, Denzel Washington quietly paid his tuition. That single act of generosity didn’t just send Boseman to school, it launched a legacy.

This is what true leadership does: it becomes the ladder others climb on to rise.
In Akwa Ibom today, Governor Umo Eno is becoming that ladder for many, lifting, supporting, and empowering those who dare to dream but lack the means.

One of the most moving illustrations of this is the story of Barrister Udeme Ekanem, a visually impaired young man who, against all odds, has just been called to the Nigerian Bar. His journey from the University of Uyo to the Law School, and ultimately to becoming a lawyer, almost ended prematurely due to lack of funds. But hope came in the form of a ₦5 million educational grant from Governor Umo Eno. That single act of kindness transformed a boy’s dream into a national testimony.

Today, Udeme stands not just as a lawyer, but as a symbol of what is possible when governance meets compassion. His story is not an isolated case, it is part of a pattern, a signature of the Governor's style of leadership under the ARISE Agenda, which places premium value on human dignity, inclusivity, and empowerment.

Recall, the story of the physically challenged shoemaker in Uyo. Crippled but not conquered, he toiled daily under the sun, handcrafting shoes with a smile and a heart full of hope. That hope found fulfillment when Governor Eno saw him and decided to intervene. The Governor didn’t just give him handouts, he gave him a future. He gifted him a tricycle (Keke) for mobility, a line of three shops, one serving as a factory, the other as a showroom, and the third for lease. That shoemaker is now an employer of labor, a self-sufficient entrepreneur who embodies the ARISE philosophy: Help people stand so they too can lift others.

Another unforgettable moment was when Mrs. Patience Umanah, a struggling dried food vendor, publicly cried out for help to expand her cassava and banana drying business. She was overwhelmed with passion but constrained by lack of funds to rent a shop and acquire basic equipment. Governor Umo Eno did not just hear her cry he responded. He immediately approved ₦2 million in cash support and followed it up with ₦3 million worth of equipment to set her up properly. Her tears of frustration became tears of joy, and her hustle is now a structured, sustainable business.

Then there’s the touching story of a mother who got a job because her young son performed for the Governor during a visit to their school. Impressed by his talent, Governor Eno asked what he could do for him. The boy didn’t ask for toys, clothes, or gadgets, he asked for a job for his mother. That honest, selfless request melted the Governor’s heart. Without hesitation, he offered his mother employment. In a country where bureaucracy and connection often determine opportunity, this act stood out as a powerful statement: every citizen matters.

These stories are not random, they are evidences of a deliberate and consistent commitment to compassion-driven leadership. Governor Umo Eno’s ARISE Agenda is more than infrastructure or policy, it’s about people. It’s about lifting those at the bottom of the ladder, one dream at a time.

Dr. Umo Eno is building roads and the people. He is fixing infrastructure, as well as destinies.
And in every life touched, in every dream restored, we see a clear message: Hope is alive in Akwa Ibom.

Governor Umo Eno is proving to be the Denzel Washington of Akwa Ibom, the hand that lifts the next generation, the ladder that dreamers climb to greatness.

Indeed! Akwa Ibom is rising in compassion, inclusivity, and shared humanity. And that, perhaps, is the greatest legacy any leader can leave behind.

"I don't play sentimental politics, and I encourage good leadership. The students appreciate you, sir, and we want it to be on record today that for the past 10 years, Itu-Ibiono has not enjoyed bursary. Itu-Ibiono Ibom has not had a member who comes back and embraces the students. But today, you have done it. The Lord who gave you first-term will give you second-term." ~ Cmrd Otobong Esara, The immediate past student leader in Itu LGA speaking during the Educational Support/Bursary Award for Itu-Ibiono Ibom students.

Rep. Ime Okon, affectionately known as "Utenge-Ibiono" by his people, has been making waves with his philanthropic efforts as a lawmaker representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency in the National Assembly.

The lawmaker's commitment to giving back to his constituents is evident in his various initiatives, which have touched the lives of many. The above quotation is from one of the students leaders who expressed gratitude during the 1st batch of educational support/bursary award programme sponsored by the federal lawmaker few weeks ago.

According to the various testimonials from students of the federal constituency in higher institutions, bursary award was lacking for so many years. The recent by Rt. Hon. Ime Okon was a respite the students won't forget for a longer time. Aside from beating previous records, it happened at a time when many students were about losing hope on their educational pursuit due to financial constraint.

Hear another testimonial in one of the outings of the former Worldwide President, Otobong Esara, Itu, Akwa Ibom State on June 2, 2025,

"Ukeme Ndarake, a promising student facing the risk of dropping out due to financial constraints, received a lifeline when Mr. Esara brought his case to Hon. Okon’s attention. Moved by the student’s plight, Hon. Okon promptly settled the outstanding fees, ensuring that Ukeme’s education continues without interruption.

"This is not just financial aid. It’s a message of hope for many young people. We are grateful for leaders like Hon. Okon, who listens and acts with purpose,” Esara stated.

These and many more are gratitude encrafted in the hearts of men, which showcases the sterling qualities of Rt. Hon. Ime Okon.

This philanthropic attribute makes his touch with the people more impactful and timeless. And Itu-Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency needs a leader of this character and commitment to public service.

PoliticsA Covenant Of Purpose: Eno’s Strategic Realignment And The National Imperative by trendingnow247(op): 8:39am On Jun 11, 2025
It was a day when history and purpose converged, closing one chapter and opening another in bold, progressive print.

On Friday, June 6, 2025, the Banquet Hall of Government House, Uyo, Akwa Ibom’s iconic House of elegance and political gravitas overflowed with a diverse and expectant crowd. From early morning, waves of people streamed in: party loyalists, faith leaders, youth representatives, women leaders, and Nigeria’s political elite.

At the center of it all stood Governor Umo Eno, declaring a conscious, deliberate transition from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was not an impulsive decision, but one forged through months of deep consultation with stakeholders across the state and nation.

Perhaps the gravity of the day was best captured in the tone-setting remarks of Ambassador Assam E. Assam (SAN). The respected elder statesman called the move “a masterstroke in pragmatic leadership and statesmanship.” With the weight of experience and clarity of purpose, he urged Akwa Ibomites to “look beyond partisanship and behold purpose,” framing the day not as an end, but the beginning of a new collective possibility. His words set the tone: measured, hopeful, and decisive.

What marked this as no ordinary realignment was the convergence of several serving Progressive Governors, who traveled to Uyo to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with one of their own. Leading the delegation was Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State, Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum. With him were Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Francis Nwifuru (Ebonyi), Monday Okpebholo (Edo), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Prince Bassey Otu (Cross River), and Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo).

Their presence was not just symbolic, it was strategic, and a full-throttle endorsement of national alignment.

By midday, the Banquet Hall reverberated with chants of “On your Mandate we shall stand!”
Then came the defining moment.
Governor Umo Eno, calm and resolute, stood beneath a banner of unity and addressed his people. Quoting the Dalai Lama, he spoke of embracing change while holding firm to one’s values.

“Though I have changed my political affiliation,” he said, “my values, my moral fibre, and the fundamental principles I have nourished and lived by remain unchanged and sacrosanct.”

“Why am I in the APC?” he asked. “The answer is short and simple: Enlightened State Interest and the need to align our state with the Centre to attract more national benefits.”

Akwa Ibom, as the highest contributor to the nation’s economic wealth, especially in oil and gas, cannot afford to operate at cross-purposes with the Federal Government, which holds the levers of national resource allocation. “Strategic alignment,” he said, “is not submission, it is smart governance.”

To unlock opportunities in infrastructure, industrialization, and human capital development, Akwa Ibom must sit at the decision-making table, not stand outside the room.

Governor Eno praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, describing him as “a man of courage and vision” whose economic reforms, though bold, are beginning to yield long-term benefits. He recalled his admiration for Tinubu’s governance legacy in Lagos and offered unreserved support for the President’s second-term ambition in 2027.

In the same breath, he voiced strong support for Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s continued leadership of the National Assembly in 2027, asserting that Akwa Ibom stands to gain by having strong presence and voice in both the executive and legislative arms of the national government.

Governor Eno’s move, while tactical , is deeply strategic, rooted in a long-term vision to secure Akwa Ibom’s relevance in the evolving political landscape of Nigeria.

The symbolic presentation of the APC broom, performed by Senator Uzodinma amid thunderous applause, marked more than just a party switch. It was the culmination of a coordinated, calculated movement of vision and values.

One by one, political structures across the state pledged support. The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Udeme Otong; National Assembly members, led by Senator Ekong Sampson; members of the State Executive Council, led by Prince Enobong Uwah; local government chairmen, led by ALGON Chair Dr. Uwemedimo Udo; as well as youth and women groups, all declared solidarity:“We stand with our Governor. We move with him.”

Amidst the euphoria, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, APC State Chairman, stood confidently, not as a lone opposition figure, but as host to a political homecoming. His message was clear: “The APC in Akwa Ibom has opened its arms wide. And the state has walked in, strong.”

In a goodwill message on behalf of the Senate President, his wife , Mrs. Ekaette Unoma Akpabio described the Governor’s action as “courageous, visionary, and unifying.”

Throughout his address, Governor Eno assured the people that the ARISE Agenda remains unshaken and on course.
“Political parties are just vehicles,” he said. “Good governance is the destination. Akwa Ibom will become a model of how to build beyond partisanship, how to work together, stay together, and grow together.”

Politics, he emphasized, should not be seen as war, but as a game of strategy, much like soccer .
Sometimes, teammates during the club season wear different jerseys during national duty. But the goal is always clear: to win, to raise the banner, to make your people proud.

Governor Eno has not only demonstrated a clear understanding of the political game and changing times ; he has shown smart political sagacity, inclusive, strategic, and forward-thinking leadership . And Akwa Ibom will be better for it.

The signs are unmistakable: the political winds have shifted in his favour. As 2027 approaches, Governor Eno stands tall—not just as Governor, but a performer who has aquintted himself creditably through his highly impressive performance in the last two years and as a new national political force, with expanding goodwill, broad alliances, and a governance track record rooted in vision and humility.

In june 6, the Governor closed with a whisper of quiet poetry:
Let us arise together, like rivers finding the ocean,
Not to fight the old, but to build the new.

With that, a new chapter in Akwa Ibom’s political journey began. A grand rally is expected in the coming days to formally welcome Governor Eno and his supporters into the progressive fold.
The winds have shifted. The sails are up. Akwa Ibom is charting a bold new political course embedded in unity, national relevance, and full visibility for its people.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom: Pastor Umo Eno Resigns From PDP, Joins APC (Full Statement) by trendingnow247(op): 5:33pm On Jun 06, 2025
BEING THE SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, PhD, ON THE OCCASION OF HIS PROGRESSIVE MOVEMENT FROM THE PEOPLES DEMOCRATIC PARTY (PDP) TO THE ALL PROGRESSIVES PARTY (APC)- UYO- JUNE 6, 2025

PROTOCOL

1. It was Dalai Lama, one of the world’s most highly admired moral voices who spoke so eloquently about change and the constancy of values. Dalia had advised the world to “Open your arms to change, but don’t let go of your values.”

2. Today, fellow Akwaibomites, we are gathered here to witness change while equally affirming the constancy of our collective values and defining ethos as a State.

3. For some time now, the political space particularly in this State and the Nation in general have been awash with the news of my likely movement from the PDP, the platform that had provided the levers and ladder of my political ascendancy to the position of Governor of this State. The discussions have elicited various layers of analysis in the process.

- 2 -

4. Today, I am here to answer some of those nagging questions. Like the Dalai Lama had said, we should always be open to change but not let go of our shared values.

5. Earlier this morning, I submitted my formal Letter of Resignation from the PDP to my Ward Chairman, same copy was sent to both the State Chairman as well as the National Chairman. I have therefore, decided to Progressively move to the All Progressive Congress, the (APC).

6. Standing before you today, I make bold to state categorically that, though I have, by today’s event, changed my political affiliation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All-Progressives Congress (APC) my values, my moral fibre, the foundational principles I have nourished and lived by remain unchanged and sacrosanct.

7. Why am I in the APC, you may ask? The answer is short and simple: Enlightened State Interest predicated on the need to align our State with the Centre to attract more Federal presence.

- 3 –

That is the truth-pure and simple as well as the exercise of my fundamental Right of Association as expressed in the 1999 Constitution as Amended.

8. President Tinubu, GCFR, has possibly, in recent history of this Nation, faced the most daunting economic challenges of any leader. With boldness and deep convictions, he has stared these challenging moments head-on and came up with solutions that, though in the immediate aftermath is tough for Nigerians, but however, are beginning to bear long-lasting and sustainable effects.

9. The removal of petrol subsidy, though a hard decision, has brought more funds to subnational entities to pursue audacious projects that are positively affecting the lives of their people. Akwa Ibom State today, is more of a constructing site with many life-touching projects across the 31 Local Governments Areas. The economic fog is becoming clearer, the confidence in our economy is growing and we need to support him to finish this huge task of national re-awakening and economic renewal.

10. It is a known fact that, I have never hidden my admiration for the President and his patriotic devotion to national renewal which he is engendering today

- 4-
As a young professional working in Lagos while he was the Governor, I was amazed and fascinated by the manner he ran Lagos, and had, with focus and vision, raised the profile of Lagos State to become a leading Subnational in the country, while facing daunting challenges.

I believe he is poised to replicate the Lagos magic on a larger national scale. I therefore, have no apologies for supporting him for a second term in office to complete the reforms he has started.

11. Let me also say it here, that political parties are vehicles to run for elections. Governance in my considered opinion should be done, without rigid attachment to political labels, since these parties are not defined by ideology but by enlightened set of interests.

12. In two years, since my inauguration as Governor, I have not worn a toga of a political party rather it has been my passionate commitment to pursuing the larger interest of our State and our people. The Arise Agenda, has been our Governance Blueprint, and that’s what it will be as we make this movement. I therefore, appeal to you my people to join me in this necessary movement to align our State with the Centre and to facilitate more development to our State.

- 5 -

13. Let me add here that our dear State is nationally considered as one of the safest and peaceful States in the nation. There is an urgent need to sustain and deepen this important catalyst for growth, by not engaging in unnecessary political bickering. Peace brings development, peace brings unity and unity breeds brotherhood and inclusivity and our State is the ultimate beneficiary.

14. I have always said I will work for the unity of our State by running a bipartisan administration. This has been a well-thought-out position that was so eloquently stated in my Inaugural Speech on May 29, 2023.

15. On that historic day, I had stated thus “Elections are over, and our kindred spirit must be renewed and deepened. We are all Akwaibomites first before politics.

Politics, therefore, must not separate or sever the ties of our brotherhood, common heritage and aspirations. I pledge to you, that I will be Governor for all Akwaibomites irrespective of political persuasion or affiliations”

- 6 -

16. Today, as I make this formal movement from the PDP to APC, I pledge to you again, my dear Akwaibomnites, that I will still run a bipartisan and inclusive governance. Akwa Ibom State, I promise you will be a model of how to work together, pray together, aspire together, dream together and achieve together without the polarising impulses of partisan politics. Political parties remain vehicles for elections. I will continue to ensure that governance is done through the prism of bipartisanship.

17. Let me end this speech with a quote from the renowned author, Julie Flygare “The secret of change is to focus all your energy not in fighting the old, but on building the new.”

18. Together, with the old and the new, we will build our dear State, with unity, with peace, with inclusivity, with love and kindred spirit in accordance with the lines in our State’s Anthem that “our dreams be ever one, rising “beyond ethnicity”, to “build with love, our Promised Land” so we may go “Forward Ever and Backward Never!! That is what I am dedicating to doing and I ask you to continue to support and pray for us.

- 7 -

19. Like the children of Issachar in 1st Chronicles Chapter 12 verse 32, were “men that had understanding of the times to know what Israel should do”” I also expect the understanding of the times we are in, and why we are doing this movement. As the children of Issachar pitched their tenth with David, for the common good of Israel, I expect unflinching loyalty of our Team- a point that is further eloquently illustrated in John 10: 27 “My sheep hears my voice, and I know them and they follow me.”

20. I am convinced the the voice I heard that led us to this day and to this movement was the right voice and I know my people will follow me and continue to give us their support.

Let us strategically Arise together, to the promise of a better, more inclusive, stronger and united Akwa Ibom State that is aligned with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, GCFR led-Federal Government

21. To those who may be concerned by this Progressive movement, I want to assure you that I have received enormous assurances of support and seamless integration from our dear President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR,

- 8 -

The Senate President, Distinguished Senator Godwill Akpabio, GCON, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum. Those who know our dear President will attest to the fact that his words are his bond. This movement, falling on a day that we mark Sallah, is our own gift to our President and it has divine connotation

22. APC- Progress, Arise - That same God!
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria, God bless Akwa Ibom State and bless us all!

23. On your Mandate we shall stand, On your Mandate we shall stand, On your Mandate, On your Mandate

PoliticsUmo Eno And Udom Emmanuel : Why They Must Remain Leadership Models by trendingnow247(op): 8:43am On May 12, 2025
As Akwa Ibom State approaches the year 2027, the anticipation of another pivotal election cycle is steadily intensifying.

The political landscape is becoming increasingly charged with tension, as various politicians and political factions regroup and craft new alliances, often fabricating or exaggerating political tandems and loyalties to serve their strategic interests.

Amidst this swirling political turbulence, one crucial factor remains paramount: the preservation of the current peace and cordial relationship that exists between Governor Umo Eno PhD and his predecessor, Deacon Udom Emmanuel CON .

This relationship, characterized by mutual respect and cooperation, has become a beacon of stability not only within Akwa Ibom but also across Nigeria’s political sphere.

It exemplifies a mature and pragmatic approach to leadership, demonstrating that differing political affiliations or personal ambitions do not necessarily have to breed conflict or discord.

Maintaining this peace is of utmost importance, especially in a political climate where opportunistic actors seek to exploit perceived differences and sow discord for their own gain.

Regrettably, some factions within the political class have begun to project and promote groups with the explicit aim of undermining Governor Umo Eno’s authority.

These groups often operate under the guise of ideological platforms but are, in reality, driven by motives of blackmail, intimidation, and destabilization.

Their strategy appears to be aimed at creating divisions, attempting to portray the Governor as a mere trator before Deacon Udom Emmanuel CON thus orchestrating internal conflicts between the two capable and prudent leaders.

Such tactics threaten the stability of the state’s political harmony and undermine the collective progress made under their leadership.

The harmonious relationship between Governor Umo Eno, Ph.D., and Deacon Udom Emmanuel CON is an exemplary model for Nigeria at large. It underscores the importance of unity, dialogue, and mutual respect among political leaders, regardless of their differing views or backgrounds.

Just yesterday, at the Apostolic Church in Lagos, Governor Umo Eno, PhD, visited to offer his gratitude to God for the divine fulfillment of a prophecy that was proclaimed within that very sanctuary.

During this significant occasion, he unequivocally reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to fostering a peaceful and harmonious relationship with his predecessor, emphasizing the importance of mutual respect and understanding between the two leaders.

In his heartfelt words, Governor Eno expressed, “At God's appointed time, His divine grace touched the heart of my political father, Deacon Udom Gabriel Emmanuel. That is the reason I will forever hold Deacon Udom Emmanuel in the highest regard and honour. Should anyone expect me to act otherwise, I challenge them to take everything they wish to offer—because my loyalty and respect are unwavering.”

He further articulated his deep sense of gratitude and recognition for the spiritual and political guiding hands that shaped his journey, stating, “From my youth, I have learned the vital lesson not to forget those whom God has used to touch and elevate my life. It was through God's divine intervention that He used Deacon Udom Emmanuel to fulfill the prophecy spoken here in 1980, and I will always cherish and honour that divine partnership.”

This heartfelt declaration explains not only the profound respect and reverence he holds for his predecessor but also highlights the genuine understanding and peaceful coexistence that both leaders aspire to uphold.

Their mutual recognition of each other's roles as instruments of divine purpose exemplifies a leadership rooted in humility, respect, and a shared commitment to the collective good of the community they serve.

This partnership has garnered recognition at the highest levels, including commendations from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu himself, who often cites Governor Umo Eno PhD and his predecessor as exemplars of effective and responsible political leadership.

It is essential to recognize that leadership styles naturally differ among individuals; what is effective or appropriate for one leader may not be for another. Personal priorities, backgrounds, and perspectives inevitably shape their actions and decisions.

Attempting to exploit or exaggerate these subtle differences, or to portray them as faults or faults in character, is not only unjust but also perilous. Such attempts are likely to incite political crises, foster unnecessary tension, and divert focus from the common good.

Furthermore, the emergence of clandestine groups or factions that claim to represent one leader or the other, particularly those formed solely to run gossips, blackmail, or political intimidation, are wholly unacceptable and antithetical to the spirit of genuine unity that exist today in Akwa Ibom State

It is widely understood that some individuals within the political class may feel uncomfortable with the enduring peace and stability, especially since political conflicts often translate into financial gains for certain actors.

Nevertheless, it is imperative that all stakeholders, especially those with vested interests, allow the leaders to continue exercising their prudent and statesmanlike partnership without unwarranted interference or malicious attempts to destabilize their smooth relationship .

The ongoing peace and cooperation between Governor Umo Eno PhD and Deacon Udom Emmanuel CON serve as a vital foundation for the political stability of Akwa Ibom State.

It is a model worth emulating across Nigeria, highlighting that unity, respect, and dialogue are indispensable tools for sustainable development and progress.

All political actors must prioritize the collective good over personal or factional gains, fostering an environment where leadership can thrive unencumbered by unnecessary conflicts or manipulative tactics.

Let's allow this peaceful political union to continue without conflict. Nigerians are happy that, for once, they have leaders like Governor Umo Eno PhD and Deacon Udom Emmanuel CON who can relate peacefully and show mutual respect and humility towards each other.

Governor Umo Eno, PhD, remains the primary and highest beneficiary of Deacon Udom Emmanuel's benevolence. He does not take this for granted and will never do anything that could cause his benefactor to regret his support.

On the other hand, Deacon Udom Emmanuel CON understands the principles of leadership. He respects Governor Umo Eno PhD as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State and will never do anything or make any statement that disrespects the office he once occupied.

Therefore, those regrouping to create political tension should understand that they cannot be more Catholic than the Pope. In the kingdom of Udom's men, the Governor of Akwa Ibom State is the number one leader.

PoliticsNkutt Empowers Youth Leaders With Strategic Security Training In Itu by trendingnow247(op): 8:29pm On Apr 21, 2025
In a move to enhance grassroots security architecture and foster stronger synergy between youth leaders and security agencies, the Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, has organized a Security Education workshop for all youth leaders across villages in the local government area.

The initiative is a proactive approach to community policing and local intelligence development.

Held at the Council Hall of Itu Local Government Secretariat, Mbak Atai, on Thursday, the seminar drew attendance from representatives of key security agencies, including the Department of State Services (DSS), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Nigerian Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), and the Nigerian Army.

Declaring the seminar open, Hon. Nkutt expressed appreciation to the youth leaders for their commitment to community development, stressing that the purpose of the seminar was to equip them with essential security knowledge.

According to the Chairman, youth leaders are pivotal to local security structures and must collaborate effectively with security agencies to ensure peace and order in their communities.

“Youth leaders are the first responders when crises erupt, therefore, they must be security-conscious, proactive, and committed to upholding the rule of law,” Hon. Nkutt said.

Addressing the topic “Security Information Management: Youth Leaders’ Perspective in Itu Local Government Area,” a representative from the Department of State Services (DSS) highlighted the critical role of intelligence gathering and safe dissemination of information.

The DSS official urged youth leaders to remain vigilant, report suspicious activities, and discourage misinformation which can trigger unrest.

In a session on “The Effects of Vandalism on National, State, and Local Development,” a speaker from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps emphasized the economic and security implications of vandalism, especially on public infrastructure, and urged the youth to act as protectors of communal assets and work closely with civil defence personnel in reporting and preventing sabotage.

Speaking on “The Police and Youth Leaders in the Community,” the Divisional Police Officer in Itu, CSP Cirdan Jerome, stated that a youth leader must embody integrity, discipline, and service.

CSP Jerome likened youth leaders to “community police in plain clothes” and advised against any indulgence in criminal or extra-judicial actions, such as torture or jungle justice.

“No youth leader should engage in flogging or meting out unlawful punishments to offenders, such acts constitute torture and violate the Nigerian Constitution,” CSP Jerome said.

"Your job as a youth leader is to collaborate with law enforcement, and not take the law into your hands,” he added.

On her part, SRC Amarachi Echendu of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) delivered a session titled “FRSC, Security and Youth Unrest in Itu.” She emphasized the close link between safety and security, citing scenarios where unmarked or unauthorized commercial vehicles pose risks to community members.

She called on youth leaders to help monitor vehicular movements in their communities and to report potential threats to appropriate agencies.

The event featured an interactive session, allowing youth leaders to ask pressing questions on local security challenges, while resource persons provided clarifications and actionable insights tailored to the realities of Itu’s socio-security landscape.

In separate remarks, Comrade Ekpemerong Honesty, Youth Leader from Ikot Ayan Itam and Mr. Victor Udoeka, Youth President in Afahaube Itam commended Hon. Nkutt for his foresight and commitment to youth empowerment.

They described the security education workshop as a bold and unprecedented initiative that has bridged the gap between local leadership and formal security structures.

Delivering a vote of thanks, the Secretary of Itu Council, Mr. Imoh Okon, praised the Chairman for creating a platform that demystified security agencies and encouraged civilian-security synergy.

“In the past, civilians feared security officers but today, we sat on the same table, exchanged ideas, and committed to a safer Itu together,” he said.

The workshop was graced by dignitaries and council officials, including the Leader of Itu Legislative Council, Hon. Godswill David; Head of Local Government Service, Mr. Dominic Utin; Deputy Leader, Hon. Samuel Inyang; Itu Council DSO, Mrs. Christiana Bassey; Supervisor for Special Duties and Dean of Supervisors, Elder Emmanuel Abel; Supervisor for Youth and Sports, Mr. Akan Essah; as well as service commanders; aides to the Chairman, amongst others.

The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt, has launched a new initiative to upgrade the internal roads within the Council Secretariat. This direct labor project aims to enhance the aesthetic value of the secretariat and improve its overall functionality.

The project, which began on Friday, 11th April, 2025 with grading the internal roads, will also feature the opening of a new entrance to the security village, complete with a gate facility. Additionally, the construction will address the erosion situation within the council by evacuating water from the main entrance, which has been a recurring issue.

This development is part of Hon. Nkutt's broader efforts to transform the council into a model of efficiency and effectiveness. Notably, the administration is constructing a 30-room office complex, which is nearing completion. The complex, fully equipped with all-en-suite rooms and a conference hall that can seat 70 people, will provide a modern workspace for council staff, enhancing their productivity and service delivery.

Furthermore, the council's perimeter fence has undergone thorough remodeling, with the building of a new gate house and installation of solar panel street lighting on both ends of the fence and surrounding areas. This move not only enhances security but also showcases the council's commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

Hon. Nkutt's commitment to diligently serving the people of Itu in infrastructure upgrade is evident in his administration's various initiatives. Earlier, he had graded roads in all 11 AKISIEC wards of Itu, each measuring not less than 700 kilometers, significantly improving access and connectivity within the local government area. He has also renovated and furnished the Legislative office complex, further upgrading the council's infrastructure

According to Hon. Nkutt, the internal road construction project is designed to give Itu Local Government Council a befitting status as a gateway council. This initiative, a component part of his Green Agenda's 8 Strategic Pillars of Development aligns with Governor Umo Eno's ARISE Agenda, which focuses on promoting development and transforming the lives of the people of the State.

PoliticsItu Council Boss Applauds Lafarge, Faith Plant For Calabar-itu Road Intervention by trendingnow247(op): 7:26pm On Apr 10, 2025
...Says it is a remarkable display of corporate social responsibility

The Calabar-Itu highway, a federal road and critical transportation artery linking Akwa Ibom with Cross River and Abia States, had become a death trap for motorists and a source of frustration for residents. The deplorable condition of the road, characterized by deep ravines occasioned by gully erosion and severely failed portions, had led to numerous accidents, armed robbery attacks, and general inaccessibility.

The stretch of the road from Ekim Itam to the Itu bridge head was particularly notorious, with communities such as Nkim, Enen Atai, Ikot Akpan, Mbak Atai, Afaha and Ayadehe bearing the burnt of the road's neglect by the federal government of Nigeria.

However, in a commendable display of corporate social responsibility, Lafarge Africa PLC, a French industrial giant, stepped in to revive the ailing road. Through her civil engineering contractor, Faith Plant Global Services, Lafarge has embarked on a comprehensive intervention initiative aimed to restore the failed sections of the road and bring it to use again. This initiative of Lafarge is a broader display of their commitment to community development.

The impact of the road intervention work has been profound, with residents and business owners heaving a sigh of relief and expressing their gratitude to Lafarge and Faith Plant for their timely intervention, especially as the rainy season sets in.

The Executive Chairman of Itu Local Government Council, Hon. Ubong Nkutt has commended the companies for the proactive initiative, noting that the poor road condition had brought untold suffering for commuters and residents, including the local government council staffers, thereby affecting productivity. "This is a remarkable display of corporate social responsibility and we, as a people sincerely appreciate Lafarge and Faith Plant for their efforts to improve the lives of our people through the palliative work done on this road", the Chairman said.

Nkutt made the commendation during an inspection visit he paid to the ongoing renovation site. Speaking, the Chairman described the road situation as critical, highlighting deeply failed portions in communities such as Nkim Itam, Enen Atai, Ikot Akpan, Mbak Atai, Afaha, and Ayadehe, where deep ravines had turned the road into a death trap for motorists.

He lamented the failure of several federal contracts awarded in the past for the reconstruction of the Calabar -Itu Highway, none of which he said had yielded meaningful results until Lafarge stepped in through its corporate social responsibility efforts.

Hon. Nkutt expressed profound gratitude to both companies, noting that their intervention has brought significant relief to commuters and residents across Itu and Akwa Ibom State.

He also used the medium to appeal to other corporate entities whose heavy duty trucks also ply the road to emulate Lafarge’s proactive initiative and support.

Responding to the Chairman’s commendation, Engr. Simon Ugbomenero, Civil Supervisor for Lafarge, reiterated that the road palliative work reflects the company’s deep commitment to giving back to its host communities through meaningful infrastructure support. He stated that the palliative work is the corporate social responsibility of Lafarge and spans from Mbak Obio Itam to the Itu bridge head and that the essence is to repair the failed portions of the road, which has caused untold accidents and traffic thereby affecting businesses and travel time of commuters.

The Civil Supervisor further noted that the intervention is a yearly routine of the company, not only restricted to Akwa Ibom but that it extends to all parts of the country where their truck and other Earth moving equipment plies. He thanked the Executive Chairman for his encouragement and support.

"Lafarge is not unaware of the sufferings of commuters and businessmen on this road. Our efforts is purely palliative and it is done yearly. We do this on all roads where our company trucks and other vehicles passes through regularly. We are grateful to the Executive Chairman of Itu for showing up to appreciate and encourage us as we give back to the society as part of our corporate social responsibility".

According to him, our contractor, Faith Plant Global Services has brought in her expertise in road construction and rehabilitation to the palliative project and will return the road for use by both light vehicles and heavy duty trucks.

Also speaking, the Project Engineer for Faith Plant Global Services, Engr. Henry Akinyeye, explained that despite several on-site challenges, their team will successfully stabilize the critically failed sections of the road, restoring it to a usable and safer condition for all road users. He also thanked the local government Chairman for his timely visit, describing him as a man who is passionate about the welfare of his people.

PoliticsWhat Governor Umo Eno Told Newly Sworn-In Commissioners And Special Advisers by trendingnow247(op): 4:36pm On Feb 24, 2025
BEING EXCERPTS FROM THE SPEECH BY HIS EXCELLENCY, PASTOR UMO ENO, PhD, GOVERNOR, AKWA IBOM STATE, AT THE SWEARING-IN OF NEW COMMISSIONERS/SPECIAL ADVISERS INTO THE STATE EXECUTIVE COUNCIL

FEBRUARY 24TH, 2025 – BANQUET HALL, GOVERNMENT HOUSE, UYO

PROTOCOL
1. Let me, on behalf of the Government and people of Akwa Ibom State, congratulate the newly sworn-in Commissioners/Special Advisers, who are now members of the State Executive Council. Again, let me send my special thanks and appreciation to the Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Honourable Udeme Otong, and the Honourable members for the speedy screening and clearance of the then nominees, who are now our brand-new Honourable Commissioners.
2. Permit me to also use this opportunity to express our profound gratitude once again to the members of the immediate past Executive Council for their service to the State. You came, you did your part, and we will remain eternally grateful for your contributions to the development of our State.
3. To the newly sworn-in Commissioners, you have been privileged to be selected out of the 7.9 million people of this blessed State to provide service to your State. Let me again reemphasize that your selection was the sole prerogative of the Governor, and this was based primarily on your proven capacities and ability to get the job done—not on ethnic or primordial considerations. Your loyalty, therefore, is to the Governor and to the State.
4. This EXCO can be rightly referred to as: THE EXCO OF CONSOLIDATION AND EXPANSION – a Joseph’s Team. Like Joseph, you have been handed a vision as contained in our Arise Agenda. You are to work collaboratively to interpret and deliver on those key planks of our governance blueprint for the betterment of our people and State. Teamwork, unity, and passion are the ingredients we require from you.
5. In 2 Kings 4:38–41, the power of working together and looking out for the mistakes of others, so the common good and fidelity to causes higher than ours can be achieved, is again illustrated.

A near-fatal error by way of accidental poisoning of the meal prepared for collective consumption by one of the sons of the prophet was discovered. Prophet Elisha, showing strong leadership and team spirit, found a solution to what could have been a fatal meal by adding flour to the poisoned meal. That singular solution restored the meal and the lives of the prophets, and the collective good was achieved.
6. The above biblical story illustrates what the spiritual and psychological underpinnings of this EXCO are all about. This EXCO, therefore, must be shaped by love, teamwork, unity of purpose, and the spirit of oneness—carrying each other along as partners rather than adversaries and being very observant so that we do not allow one person to destroy collective attainment.
7. You are to look for solutions and not engage in blame games while also working to tighten weak links and encourage deeper team spirit for the overall success of the team.
8. We have a blueprint, the ARISE Agenda, which in concrete and precise layers contains our dream for the development of our State. Your role, like Joseph, is to help further interpret the dream and vision by working collaboratively to prepare our State and people for years of continuous economic growth and prosperity.
9. This is not a War Cabinet but a Delivery Cabinet. The central and defining element of this EXCO is unity of purpose, teamwork, and positive collaborations to deliver on our campaign promises. Commit this to memory and project it in all your engagements, and you will have a smooth time as EXCO members!
10. Let me again state unambiguously that I am a man of peace and not of confrontation. I say what I mean, and I mean what I say. I do not have ‘body language.’ You must work to maintain the peace we have enjoyed here by showing utmost respect to our elders and leaders.

You have not been appointed as Commissioners to ignite unnecessary fights with your leaders at the Local Government, State, or Federal levels. Our dream and desire is to continue keeping Akwa Ibom an oasis of peace and tranquility, where investors and tourists will continue to come, live, and thrive.
11. The budget has been passed, and the projects to be executed carefully outlined. We don’t have the benefit of time—we are in a hurry to deliver solid democratic dividends in line with the Arise Agenda. Excuses and tardiness will not be entertained.
12. We have created Delivery Units and will soon appoint Delivery Advisors, in line with international best practices. These Advisors will ensure that projects are executed within specific timelines.

I will personally chair the meetings of the Project Delivery Team twice a month to review ongoing projects and ensure their timely completion. The Delivery Advisors will report to the Chief Delivery Advisor and Executive Assistant to the Governor.
13. In twenty months, we have achieved a lot:

• Revolution in the agricultural sector
• One project per local government initiative
• Improvements in primary healthcare
• World-class model primary schools
• 174 Arise Compassionate Homes completed (out of 400 planned)
• ₦47 billion paid out of ₦98 billion in inherited gratuity backlog
• Economically viable road infrastructure expansion
• New CRJ 909 Bombardier aircraft added to Ibom Air
• 30 major projects planned in the next one year (tourism, road construction, healthcare, education, SME support, etc.)

14. We will commence our Statewide Town Hall and Empowerment Series on March 8, 2025, starting with Abak Federal Constituency. This will help integrate community needs into the People’s Budget for 2026.

We will also provide empowerment schemes:
• 65 businesses per local government to receive equipment support
• ₦2 billion Farmers Grant
• ₦2 billion Traders Grant
• Small Business Grants for local entrepreneurs

15. This EXCO includes a large number of our youths, further showing our commitment to supporting and mentoring the next generation.
16. Our young people, especially in engineering and construction, have been awarded multi-billion-naira projects because they showed capacity. We have created young millionaires, and we remain committed to creating more opportunities for those who demonstrate competence.
17. As these young people have thrived in infrastructure development, I expect our newly inaugurated Honourable Commissioners to be the voice of their generation in governance.
18. Politics is local. I expect you to celebrate your appointments in your wards—not in Uyo. Your impact must be felt at the grassroots.
19. Only the Honourable Commissioner for Information and my Chief Press Secretary are authorized to issue official press statements.

... Makes case for ethical humanitarianism

The Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) of Akwa Ibom State University, Prof Otoabasi Akpan, has lauded Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, Ph.D, on his outstanding humanitarian feats within and outside Akwa Ibom State, while calling for the adoption of greater ethically driven humanitarian initiatives by state and non-state actors in pursuit of better livelihood for the populace.

Professor Akpan gave the commendation while delivering a paper titled, 'The Pragmatism in Humanitarian Interventions', at the 2025 District Convention of the club in Uyo.

Highlighting global and local perspectives of development through intervening in various human conditions to better the lives of people in need, the University Don expressed optimism that Governor Eno's model of humanitarian intervention is capable of optimizing the political and social landscape of the state.

"I make bold to say that the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Dr. Umo Eno, has achieved significant strides in humanitarian works which are legendary and beyond the boundaries of the state."

"Is it the case of the NYSC young lady in Cross River State, or the case of the girl in Edo State; or cases of numerous widows and widowers and the poor in Akwa Ibom State; or the case of the boy who used street light because he needed light to study at night? He intervened in all of these cases and as a matter of fact, I once called him Pastor Umo Eno The Good Samaritan", Akpan said.

He added that "up to date, there is nothing in logic or experience to influence His Excellency not to maintain this stance."

The DVC who also a humanitarian, equally celebrated the Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady, Mrs Helen Obareki, who recently marked the first anniversary of the departed first lady's pet project, Golden Initiative For All - GIFA.

"The same can go to the coordinator of the office of the First Lady, Mrs. Helen Eno Obareki for equally perfecting humanitarian roles in governance. These models are exemplary and could work perfectly ", he said.

The Professor of History of Ideas and International Security Studies, who made a strong case for humanitarian interventions rooted in ethical considerations rather than political, was honoured with a special batch at the event, tagged, 'Ibom 2025' by the Governor of Lions Clubs International - District 404A2 Nigeria.
