Foreign AffairsDanish Court Sentences Ex-minister To Prison For Child Abuse Material by TrioVibes(op): 5:42pm On Sep 01, 2025
A former Danish government minister was jailed for four months on Monday for possession of thousands of images of child sexual abuse.

Henrik Sass Larsen, once a senior Social Democrat who served as industry minister, admitted to having more than 6,000 photographs and 2,000 videos on his computer depicting sexual abuse of children.

He had denied the charges, saying he had the material because he was trying to find out who had abused him as a child.

Prosecutor Maria Cingari said she was “satisfied” with the verdict but added that it was sad that someone “who managed to make the most out of their life despite a bad start finds himself in such a situation.”

Sass Larsen was placed in foster care as a child before being adopted.

“You should never be in possession of child pornography, no matter the reason,” Cingari added.

During his trial, the 59-year-old told the court he had received a link in 2018 to a 50-year-old video showing him being sexually abused when he was three years old.

He testified that he received another video clip in 2020, in which a three-year-old girl was raped in his presence when he was around the same age.

The two videos disappeared after he viewed them, he said.

He told the court he regretted not having contacted the police when he received the videos.

Sass Larsen was also accused of being in possession of a child sex doll, but the court did not find him guilty on that charge.

His lawyer, Berit Ernst, told reporters that “we’ll see if it is a definitive end or if we will appeal.”

The scandal came to light last March and led to his expulsion from the Social Democratic Party.

At the time, Social Democratic Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen expressed her shock over the case.

PoliticsOyetola Celebrates Dantsoho's Election As IAPH Vice President by TrioVibes(op): 1:22pm On Aug 27, 2025
The Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, His Excellency Adegboyega Oyetola, CON, has extended his heartfelt congratulations to Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), on his election as Vice President of the International Association for Ports and Harbours (IAPH).

In a statement issued on Wednesday by his Special Adviser on Media and Communications Dr Bolaji Akinola, Minister Oyetola described the election as a testament to Dr Dantsoho's outstanding leadership and a global recognition of Nigeria's growing influence in maritime affairs.

The Minister noted that the development is a direct reflection of the significant strides made under the Federal Government's port modernisation programme.

“This election is a recognition of the ongoing reforms to reposition Nigerian ports and the blue economy drive of the Federal Government,” Minister Oyetola stated. "It validates our commitment to creating a more efficient, secure, and competitive maritime environment, which is a key component of our national economic strategy."

The Minister highlighted that the government's ongoing port modernisation initiative is a comprehensive programme designed to overhaul port infrastructure, embrace cutting-edge technology, and streamline operational processes. The goal is to elevate Nigerian ports to international standards and position the country as a leading maritime hub in Africa.

The International Association for Ports and Harbours (IAPH) is a respected global organisation that serves as a consultative body to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) and other UN agencies. It unites over 300 ports and port-related businesses from 90 countries, playing a crucial role in shaping international port policy, promoting sustainable development, and fostering collaboration on pressing industry challenges.

The Honourable Minister emphasised that Dantsoho's role within such an influential body will be instrumental in advancing Nigeria's interests on the global stage.

Minister Oyetola expressed confidence that Dr Dantsoho's wealth of experience will enable him to make impactful contributions to the IAPH and, in doing so, further elevate Nigeria's voice in global maritime policy debates and foster deeper international collaboration.

TravelJapan Denies Plans To Create Special Visas For Skilled Nigerians by TrioVibes(op): 8:49am On Aug 26, 2025
Japan has denied plans to create a special visa category for Nigerians who wish to relocate to Kisarazu, a city it recently designated as “hometown” for Nigeria.

During the 9th Tokyo International Conference for African Development (TICAD9) last week in Yokohama, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) announced the launch of the ‘JICA Africa Hometown’ to strengthen exchanges between African countries and Japanese local governments.
JICA designated four cities to four African countries.

Kisarazu was named as Nigeria’s hometown; Nagai as the hometown of Tanzania; Sanjo was matched to Ghana; and Imabari as the hometown of Mozambique.
A statement signed by Abiodun Oladunjoye, director of information at the State House, had said the Japanese government would create “a special visa category for highly skilled, innovative, and talented young Nigerians who want to move to Kisarazu to live and work”.

“Artisans and other blue-collar workers from Nigeria who are ready to upskill will also benefit from the special dispensation visa to work in Japan,” the statement dated August 22 added.

The development was widely reported locally and internationally.

But in a statement on Monday, the Japanese foreign ministry denied such plans.

It confirmed that the “JICA Africa Hometown” programme plans to promote exchanges between the four Japanese cities and the four African countries through various activities, including the organisation of exchange events involving JICA overseas cooperation volunteers”.

“On the other hand, there are no plans to take measures to promote the acceptance of immigrants or issue special visas for residents of African countries, and the series of reports and announcements concerning such measures are not true,” the statement added.

The Japanese foreign ministry said it would continue to ensure that appropriate statements regarding the matter are meted out.

PoliticsAdc’s Exploitation Of Grief Insensitive, Opportunistic by TrioVibes(op):
ABUJA, FCT

AUGUST 25, 2025

PRESS STATEMENT

*ADC’S EXPLOITATION OF GRIEF INSENSITIVE, OPPORTUNISTIC*

The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to a grossly insensitive and crassly opportunistic comments attributed to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over the tragic killing of innocent citizens by some enemies of the state in Malumfashi, Katsina state.

It is a thing of national tragedy when lives of innocent and law abiding citizens are cut down by forces of evil and terror. It is despicable and must be condemned by all Nigerians. Our thoughts and prayers remain with the families of the victims of this and other incidents.

Events like this remind us of our common humanity and citizenship, and beckon on all of us, irrespective of ethnicity, religion or political affiliation, to stand together as one to combat and defeat these soulless forces of terror. It is also an occasion to encourage and support the valiant members of our security forces in the frontlines of the war on terror, who put their lives on the line everyday for our peace and safety.

It is not an occasion for insensitive and crassly opportunistic politics as the ADC has busied itself with. It is in extreme bad taste for the ADC to attempt to exploit this tragic event for inordinate partisan political points.

That party’s suggestion that the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria must remain grounded and go no where but sit in anticipation of attacks by shadowy forces of terror is remarkably lame and senseless, and shows the ADC to be without any understanding of government and its workings.

The ADC’s unproductive indulgence in peddling false narratives and obscene propaganda is exactly the reason for their miserable showing in the just concluded bye-elections in the country, turning up zero scores everywhere. You would think that they would draw some lessons from the bye-elections outcomes and understand that spewing falsehood and half truths in press statements is not exactly an effective election-winning strategy. ADC has enough Atiku-mess on their hands, and should focus on fixing themselves, and quit chasing shadows.

The President’s strategic international engagements are critical for attracting foreign investments, strengthening security partnerships, and securing the military support necessary to combat terror and other crimes. Given the imperative of global cooperation to national development, and the fierce competition for scarce resources, Nigeria cannot afford live in isolation and cannot combat terror and other security challenges all on its own.

It was just a few days ago that Boko Haram founder’s son and two Ansaru leaders were captured in joint Nigeria-Chad raids which have been widely hailed as major anti-terrorism breakthroughs.

While the ADC engages in worthless rhetoric, the APC-led administration of President Bola Tinubu is actively working with security agencies to track down the perpetrators of this dastardly acts and bring safety and closure to our people.

President Tinubu has consistently demonstrated his unflinching commitment to the safety and security of every Nigerian. Recent deployments of special forces and advanced technology to crisis-prone areas provide clear evidence of that commitment. The administration is implementing comprehensive measures, including review of the country’s National Security Strategy, increased defence budget and spending for drastically enhanced capacity, regional and international partnerships for intelligence sharing as well as community-based interventions to tackle insecurity at the local levels.

The APC remains focused on delivering solutions, and will not be distracted by mischievous political theatrics that is the staple of chatterbox ADC. We urge all stakeholders to support the administration’s determined efforts to secure our nation. May God protect our troops as they defend our dear homeland.

Borno Allocates N4Billion To Buy 200 Cartons Of Agrochemicals For Pest, Insect Control In Maiduguri

This would mean that each carton of agrochemicals for insects and pests is estimated to cost N20 million.

ASaharaReporters review of Borno State’s 2025 approved budget reveals that N4 billion has been allocated for the procurement of agrochemicals to combat insects and pests in the Maiduguri Metropolitan Council Local Government Area.

The line item in the budget description reads: "Purchase Of 200Nos. of Cartons Of Agrochemicals For Insects And Pests In Maiduguri Metropolitan Councils LGA."

This would mean that each carton of agrochemicals for insects and pests is estimated to cost N20 million.

SaharaReporters previously reported that despite ongoing devastating attacks by Boko Haram in Borno State, the state government has continued to allocate billions in “Livelihood Support” for repentant members of the terrorist group, according to a review of the state’s budget documents.

The funds are designated for the disarmament, demobilisation, and reintegration (DDR) of former Boko Haram members.

Between January and September 2024, N3.4 billion was spent for this purpose, with an additional N7.4 billion earmarked in the 2025 budget.

A review of Borno State’s 2025 budget performance for the first half of the year shows that N1.8 billion was spent on livelihood support for repentant Boko Haram members in just six months, with N1.6 billion disbursed between March and June, representing the second quarter of the year.

In addition, Government House plans to spend N1 billion on fuelling generators in 2025, which translates to approximately N83.3 million per month or N2.7 million per day (assuming a 30-day month).

Another N2 billion has been allocated for the purchase of a new power-generating set for the Government House, while N800 million is set aside for fuelling official vehicles during the fiscal year.

Akwa Ibom Budgets N3Billion To Furnish Abuja ‘Hotel Apartment,’ N1.2Billion For Celebrations Amid Poverty, Flooding

The review also showed that the state earmarked another N1.2 billion for the celebration of its creation anniversary and Nigeria’s Independence Day.

A SaharaReporters review of Akwa Ibom State’s approved 2025 budget has revealed that the government allocated N3 billion for the furnishing of a “hotel apartment” at the Akwa Ibom State House in Abuja.

The review also showed that the state earmarked another N1.2 billion for the celebration of its creation anniversary and Nigeria’s Independence Day.
According to the budget document, a sum of N700 million was budgeted for "week-long celebration of Akwa Ibom state anniversary celebration."

The celebration was domiciled under the office of the "Secretary to the State Government."

Akwa Ibom was created on September 23, 1987.

Another sum of N500 million was budgeted for "Independence Day Celebration," also domiciled under the office of the "Secretary to the State Government."

The N1.2 billion budgeted for Independence Day celebration and state creation anniversary is more than the N611 million budgeted for the College of Nursing Sciences in 2025.

It is also way more than the N360 million budgeted for the State Health Insurance Agency in the 2025 budget document.

The amount is also more than the N1 billion budgeted for the Uyo Capital City Development Authority.

Only N631 million was budgeted for the Akwa Ibom State Water Company in 2025, an amount less than the budget for Independence Day and state creation day celebrations, put at N1.2 billion.

Meanwhile, 19% of school-aged children in Akwa Ibom state are said to be deprived of access to school, according to the National Bureau of Statistics Multidimensional Poverty Index.

Also, 70% of households in the state are said to be deprived of access to sanitary facilities.

Another 64% of households are also said to be deprived of access to clean drinking water.

Akwa Ibom State also grapples with recurrent flooding. In May, about 50 houses were reportedly submerged after heavy rains displaced residents.

In 2022, the state was among those hit by devastating floods that destroyed hectares of farmland and caused widespread losses.

According to the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA), Akwa Ibom is among the states projected to be affected by flooding in 2025.

Africa’s foremost virtual cinema platform, Circuits, has continued to honour Nollywood pioneers through its Film Veterans’ Dignity Fund, an initiative that has moved beyond ceremonial launches to consistent delivery.

According to Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni, Chief Operating Officer of Circuits, the scheme has faithfully kept its promise since inception providing a lifetime significant monthly stipend and comprehensive health insurance through Nem Health Insurance for industry legends aged 70 and above.

“Veterans such as Chief Pete Edochie, Idowu Philips (Iya Rainbow), and Chief Lere Paimo the first honourees have been receiving their stipends without interruption,” Bibowei-Osuobeni explained. “It is a gesture that many say has restored dignity to Nollywood’s senior figures.”

She stressed that the project was never designed as a one-off but as a sustained intervention. “This fund was conceived to ensure continuity. It is not charity, it is respect. We are giving back to the men and women who built its foundation.”

The initiative has earned widespread applause from Nollywood stakeholders. Actress Kate Henshaw, who has often spoken about veterans’ welfare, described Circuits’ consistency as “a refreshing departure from empty promises.”

She noted that the move demonstrates how corporate actors in the creative space can play a vital role in preserving Nollywood’s legacy.

Bibowei-Osuobeni added: “Many of our veterans worry about healthcare costs, and this is where the Dignity Fund brings real relief. It’s about peace of mind, not just financial gains.”

As Nollywood continues to expand its global reach, the Film Veterans’ Dignity Fund stands as a reminder that the future must always be built on respect for the past. Through this initiative, Circuits is setting a standard that other industries may well need to follow.

PoliticsGroup Blasts FCT Civil Service Over Flawed Computer Interview by TrioVibes(op): 1:30pm On Aug 17, 2025
A Civil Society Organisation, Transparency and Accountability Network (TAN) has raised concerns on the recent computer-based interview exercise conducted by the Engr. Emeka Ezeh led Federal Capital Territory FCT) Civil Service Commission for the appointment of Directors.

Reports and testimonies indicate that the entire exercise was marred by serious irregularities, technical failures, and a lack of due process.

Chairman and Chief Executive of the group, Comrade Michael Briggs in a press statement issued in Abuja alleged that candidates that sat for the interview were subjected to malfunctioning computer systems, frequent network breakdowns, and faulty platforms that significantly hindered their performance.

"More worrisome is the fact that the Commission failed to provide the traditional oral or written assessment components, which are globally recognized as vital tools for testing candidates’ leadership capacity, administrative competence, and problem-solving skills.

"Instead, the Commission relied solely on a compromised computer-based system that did not reflect the true intellectual and managerial abilities of the candidates," the statement noted.

He affirmed that this development has raised widespread concerns about transparency, fairness, and credibility in the selection process.

He further said; "The Civil Service, which thrives on merit, integrity, and due diligence, cannot afford to compromise on such a sensitive exercise meant to produce Directors who will drive the administration and governance of the FCT."

The group, therefore, called on the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike to review and nullify the flawed computer-based interview exercise, and put in place a transparent, fair, and merit-driven process that includes written and oral interviews to test candidates comprehensively.

According to him, "The so-called “technology-driven” exercise has only exposed the glaring lack of infrastructure within the FCTA, which is yet to meet up with globally acceptable standards of digitalisation.

"Unfortunately, the Commission, under the high-handed approach of its Chairman, has become a burden to FCTA staff. Several commissioners themselves are reportedly dissatisfied with the chairman’s draconian style of leadership, which continues to stifle fairness, transparency, and effective administration."

He also tasked the FCT Administration to upgrade its own ICT infrastructure to ensure reliability before any future computer-based assessments.

The group emphasized that the credibility of the Civil Service rests on processes that are transparent, inclusive, and technically sound, stressing that the FCT deserves nothing less than a recruitment process that guarantees competence, fairness, and justice.

PRESS STATEMENT

*APC TO INEC: CANCEL SHANONO/BAGWAI KANO STATE CONSTITUENCY BYE-ELECTION AND GHARI RERUN ELECTION*

The All Progressives Congress (APC) calls on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to immediately cancel the bye-elections for Shanono/Bagwai constituency and the Ghari constituency rerun election in Kano state due to widespread extreme violence and election disruption by armed thugs across several polling units in Shanono and Bagwai and Ghari constituencies.

Verifiable reports from Shanono and Bagwai Local Government Areas and Ghari constituency have voters fleeing polling areas, with deployed security personnel overwhelmed by the violence, making the prospects of a credible election impossible.

Proceeding with the Shanono/Bagwai Kano State Constituency bye-election and Ghari rerun election in the atmosphere of utter brigandage and outright violent voter intimidation will be against democratic dictates of free, fair and peaceful election, and set a dangerous precedent for undesirable and unacceptable electoral heist.

PoliticsCanadian Court Did Not Declare APC A Terrorist Organization - Felix Morka by TrioVibes(op): 4:47pm On Aug 15, 2025
Canadian Court Did Not Declare Apc A Terrorist Organization - Felix Morka

The attention of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has been drawn to media reports about a decision of a Canadian Court allegedly declared APC as a terrorist organisation.

We wish to state categorically that the Canadian court did not declare APC as a terrorist organisation, contrary to highly erroneous media reports in circulation.

As reported, the declaration was allegedly made in the case of Douglas Egharevba and the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, in which the Applicant (Douglas Egharevba) sought judicial review of a decision by the Canadian Immigration Appeal Division [IAD] which determined that the Applicant was inadmissible in Canada under its Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA).

In a decision in the matter dated June 17, 2025, Judge Phuong T.V. Ngo dismissed the application for judicial review on the ground that the Applicant was a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and that the PDP was an organization engaged in acts of subversion pursuant to paragraph 34(1)(b.1) of the IRPA making him inadmissible in Canada.

In his analysis, the Judge stated, “As such, applying the reasonableness standard of review, I cannot find the IAD’s conclusion that the Elections in question constituted a democratic process or institution and that the PDP, its members and supporters engaged in subversive acts committed against the electoral process for the improper purpose of maintaining political power to be unreasonable.”

To be clear, the only reference to APC in the entire 16-paged decision was in the introductory “Background”, Paragraph 4, where the court referenced a “Background Declaration Form in which the Applicant stated that “he was a member of the People’s Democratic Party [PDP] of Nigeria from December 1999 until December 2007, and a member of All Progressives Congress [APC] party of Nigeria from December 2007 until May 2017.”

For the record, APC was not in existence as of 2007. The Party was registered in 2013. The Applicant’s claim of membership of APC as of 2007 is evidently false as he could not have been a member of APC that didn’t exist at the time.

For the avoidance of doubt, we make bold to state that the court never made any determination on the question of terrorism in its decision. In the Judge’s own words:

“Having found that the IAD’s analysis on subversion was reasonable, this is sufficient to dismiss the application for review. *I will therefore refrain from anaylyzing the IAD’s findings on terrorism.”*

Clearly, reports that APC was declared as a terrorist organization by the Canadian court in this matter is patently erroneous, if not mischievous.

The court did not make such a declaration, and could not have done so as that would be an unjustifiable overreach, and a major breach of fair hearing, among other due process rights, given that APC was not a party to the proceedings. Such a decision would also have been of absolute irrelevance as being made without jurisdiction, and of no extraterritorial applicability or significance.

We urge our Party faithful, supporters and all Nigerians to disregard the reports as false and misleading.

Calls for a fair, transparent, and competitive petroleum downstream sector dominated discussions at a high-level media roundtable organised by Extractive360, as industry experts, legal analysts, and journalists converged at the Exclusive Serene Hotel, Wuye, Abuja, to address the sector’s urgent challenges and opportunities in a post-subsidy era.

In her opening remarks, Juliet Ukanwosu, Executive Director of Extractive360, described the downstream sector as “a vital pillar of Nigeria’s oil and gas industry” with direct influence on product availability, pricing, distribution, and the broader economy. She noted that since the removal of fuel subsidies, pump prices have been determined largely by market forces, sparking fierce competition often seen as a “price war” that has resulted in fluctuating prices and uncertainty for both businesses and consumers.

“High operating costs, volatile foreign exchange rates, import dependency for refined products, and infrastructural bottlenecks have added further strain,” Ukanwosu said. “Yet, liberalisation has opened the door for greater private sector participation and investment in refining, storage, and distribution infrastructure. The sector is in a state of adjustment seeking stability, competitiveness, and public trust.”

The roundtable featured two keynote presentations: “Overview of the Downstream Sector and Competitiveness in the Downstream Sector” and “What the Law Says.”

Ademola Adigun, Oil and Gas Governance Consultant, and Olasubomi Chuku, Legal Expert, stressed that a truly competitive market must be free from monopolistic control, warning that allowing a single player to dictate market conditions could harm both citizens and the industry. They urged the media to play an active role in safeguarding market fairness, ensuring that pricing stability benefits consumers.

The Natural Oil and Gas Suppliers Association of Nigeria echoed these concerns, calling on the Federal Government to enforce key provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) that promote competition, fairness, and transparency. The PIA mandates open access to petroleum infrastructure, prohibits price fixing, prevents abuse of market dominance, and bars mergers that could create monopolies.

For instance, Section 8(1)(d) of the PIA directs the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to ensure fair pricing and competition, while Section 59(1) explicitly prohibits agreements that fix purchase or selling prices. Similarly, Sections 70 and 72–93 guard against abusive dominance and anti-competitive mergers, ensuring the sector remains accessible to all qualified players.

Stakeholders also highlighted the role of the media in preventing anti-competitive behaviour, emphasising accurate reporting, public education, and holding regulators accountable. “The knowledge you take away today will empower more balanced, impactful reporting,” Ukanwosu told journalists.

The session concluded with consensus on three key priorities: enforcing the PIA’s competition provisions, preventing market monopolisation, and strengthening collaboration between regulators and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to ensure Nigerians benefit from a transparent, efficient petroleum downstream sector.

As the industry transitions to a fully liberalised market, stakeholders agreed that the path forward requires vigilance, enforcement, and public engagement to secure long-term stability and affordability.

Dantsoho Reiterates NPA's Resolve On Ports Efficiency For Sustainable Export Performance

The Managing Director (MD), Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho has tasked his team to renew commitment towards continuous improvement on Port's efficiencies which he said provided the backbone for the positive export performance Nigeria has recorded so far in the successive quarters of year 2025.

He made the call while speaking during the recently concluded NPA Management Retreat in Onne Rivers State.

Dantsoho said, the NPA was proud of the excellent work being undertaken by the Nigerian Export Promotion Council as evident in the increased export numbers passing through the NPA platforms.

He however stated that, NPA will not rest on its oars but must commit to a continuous improvement paradigm of Port operations and service delivery that places high premium on issues of sustainability.

Dantsoho said, "Minimizing environmental impact through eco-friendliness, promotion of social responsibility, and ensuring long-term economic viability are the drivers of global progress, and we cannot afford to be left behind. We owe posterity a duty to infuse sustainability paradigms into the way we do things".

The Retreat themed “Repositioning the Nigerian Ports System for Sustainability" focused on reviewing and optimizing operational processes to enhance service delivery.

The NPA Management Team undertook a Business Process Re-engineering to identify and address bottlenecks and inefficiencies, ensuring a more customer-centric approach.

It also signed a Performance Bond, reinforcing its commitment to operational excellence and achieving the Priorities of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as directed by the Honorable Minister of Marine & Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola.

The strategic initiative underscores NPA’s dedication to improving efficiency, customer satisfaction, and long-term sustainability in Nigeria’s port system.

Recall that, the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) under whose technical guidance and partnership NPA established its Export Processing Terminals (EPT) reported an unprecedented growth in Nigeria’s Non-Oil Exports reflecting that non-oil exports for H1 2025 reached US$3.225 billion, marking a 19.59% increase compared to the same period in 2024. Export volume also rose to 4.04 million metric tonnes.

This is coming on the heels of maiden call of the first wholly-Nigerian owned container vessel "MV Ocean Dragon" at the NPA Eastern Port of Onne in Rivers State.

The vessel which is scheduled to operate weekly from Onne through Calabar channel will service ports in Nigeria, Benin Republic, Togo, Ghana, Cameroon, Sierra Leone, Ivory Coast, Egypt and South Africa.

TV/MoviesPay-per-view Virtual Cinema Make Waves In Nigeria by TrioVibes(op): 11:02am On Aug 12, 2025
A new wave in African film distribution is taking shape through Circuits, Nigeria’s foremost virtual cinema and Transactional Video on Demand (TVOD) platform.

By adopting a pay-per-view model, Circuits allows audiences to pay only for the films they choose to watch offering a distinct alternative to subscription-based systems that dominate the industry.

Chief Operating Officer Imade Bibowei-Osuobeni stated in Lagos said the approach was developed to meet the needs of viewers seeking both flexibility and affordability, while ensuring creators receive fair returns.

“It allows audiences to watch a single film without committing to monthly charges, while revenue flows directly to the content creators,” she explained.

Under this model, tickets start from ₦1,000, with prices available in local currencies for audiences across the globe. Viewers can choose from access durations ranging between 8 and 48 hours. For those seeking longer engagement, the “Flexiwatch Classics” package offers over 50 curated films for either seven or 21 days.

The catalogue features a diverse mix of works, from blockbuster Nollywood productions starring Femi Adebayo and Lateef Adedimeji to award-winning titles from other African regions.

Bibowei-Osuobeni noted that the platform’s emphasis on quality and curation is central to its appeal for a wide range of audiences.

"Since its launch, Circuits has recorded over 1.3 million unique streams, with audiences in more than 170 countries.

"Its availability on mobile apps, smart TVs, and web browsers ensures convenience and accessibility for film lovers regardless of location or device.

According to Bibowei-Osuobeni, the combination of a pay-per-view structure, flexible viewing plans, and curated African storytelling positions Circuits as a game changer in the virtual cinema space. By balancing audience choice with filmmaker rights protection, the platform is helping redefine how African cinema reaches the world.

SportsCristiano Ronaldo, Georgina Rodríguez Set To Wed by TrioVibes(op): 8:44am On Aug 12, 2025
After years of playful hints, Cristiano Ronaldo has finally proposed to his long-time partner, Georgina Rodríguez, and she joyfully accepted.

The football icon’s fiancée shared the exciting news on Instagram on Monday, showcasing a dazzling diamond ring that could outshine the lights at Old Trafford.

“Yes, I do. In this and all my life,” Georgina wrote in her heartfelt caption, marking a love story nearly a decade in the making with a promise set in stone—and a very sparkly one at that.

Fans have been quick to notice this isn’t the same sparkler she’s been wearing in recent years — this one is bigger, bolder, and unmistakably the ring.

Only last month, Ronaldo hinted at why the couple hadn’t yet tied the knot, telling Netflix cameras: “I always tell her, ‘when we get that click.’ It could be in a year, six months, or even a month. I’m 1000 per cent sure it’ll happen.”
Well, that “click” finally came, and it looks like CR7 just scored one of the most important goals of his life.

The couple, who have been together since 2016, have been dating for nearly nine years and share four children; Ronaldo also has a son from a previous relationship.

Cristiano Ronaldo met Georgina Rodríguez in Madrid, where she was working as a sales assistant at a Gucci store. She described their first meeting, saying it was love at first sight, with an instant connection.

They were first publicly spotted together later that year at Disneyland Paris, which confirmed speculation about their romance.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH: READING THE RIOT ACT ON AVIATION SAFETY AND SECURITY IN REFERENCE TO THE CASE OF UNRULY MS. COMFORT BOB ON IBOM AIRLINE AND RELATED INCIDENTS

Earlier today, we again woke up to viral videos of a female passenger on Ibom Airline (now identified as Ms. Comfort Emmanson or Comfort Bob) who went berserk and physically assaulted both the flight crew and the ground staff. The incident took place yesterday, August 10, 2025 on Ibom Airline Flight No. Q153 from Uyo to Lagos at about 14:54 hours. Ibom Airline has since issued a statement to provide some context to the effect that the whole unfortunate incident arose because of the refusal of the passenger to switch off her phone during take off as required by extant International Civil Aviation Regulations.

Consequently, in the last few hours, I have been speaking with the Commissioner of Police of the Airport Police Command, the DG of the NCAA and his team, the MD of FAAN and her team, the COO of Ibom Air and his team about the incident.

Apart from the indefinite flight ban imposed on the said unruly passenger (both local and international)
by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) the Police has promptly arraigned her this morning at the Ikeja Magistrates Court for criminal offences and remanded her at Kirikiri Prisons as she could not provide adequate sureties in court. I have attached the Charge Sheet and Remand Order for clarity.

We also note the scuffle that took place between the unruly passenger and ground personnel before she was eventually subdued. This was because of her uncooperative attitude. Whilst we support the filming of her recalcitrant behaviour as evidence to prosecute her, what is DEPLORABLE is to release such evidence containing indecent exposure to the public to ridicule her. That is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE to us. We will not fold our arms and tolerate the debasing of womanhood. I have therefore directed that whoever RELEASED that part of the video containing the indecent exposure amongst the staff should be singled out and adequately sanctioned.

I have also directed that the airlines must continue to train and retrain their staff in public relations and how to deal with potentially explosive situations in order to diffuse them promptly or nip them in the bud, except when it becomes inevitable. I have also directed a joint security meeting between relevant agencies next week for better coordination of security measures in situations like this or similar ones we witnessed recently.

For genuinely aggrieved passengers, there are clearly laid-down remedies to address grievances. The Consumer Protection Directorate of the NCAA has consistently advertised these remedies and there is no point trying to take the laws into one’s hands that may lead to dire consequences.

We will continue to apply equal sanctions available to us in Aviation on any such erring passengers, that is lengthy flight bans and report the matters to other law-enforcement agencies to do their bit within their powers.

CrimeClearance Of Criminals Hideouts To Continue In FCT - FCTA by TrioVibes(op): 7:22pm On Aug 10, 2025
Clearance Of Criminals Hideouts To Continue In FCT

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has assured that clearing of shanties and parks serving as hideouts for criminals in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will be a continuous exercise.

Last week, men of the FCTA Development Control Department, Security Services, and Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO) had cleared some areas identified as major threats to the capital’s security and aesthetic standards. The exercise, which involved removing illicit structures, impounding vehicles, and seizing weapons, is being followed up with mop-up operation to ensure criminal elements do not return.

The FCT Minister's Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said in a statement on Sunday, that demolition of Jazz and Blues Entertainment at Panorama Recreational Park, Wuse Zone 3, was part of the clean-up exercise.

He said; "the operation was a targeted public safety intervention based on credible intelligence, and not an act of persecution against anyone."

The statement read; "Security agencies, including the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Department of State Services (DSS), identified several locations and facilities that serve as a criminal hideouts and safe havens across the Federal Capital City (FCC).

"Notable in these areas were the Banana Green Belt, extending from the Central Mosque area towards
the Zone 3 and Zone 1 of Wuse District, including Area 10 corridor.

"In these areas, innocent citizens are assaulted by assailants who then run to seeks refuge within the surrounding Banana Green Belt/vegetation cover to escape arrest.

"The intelligence obtained and verified through several surveillance and undercover investigations of these locations, amongst which was the Jazz and Blues Entertainment at Panorama Recreational Park, Wuse Zone 3, was that a segment of the park containing shanties and batchers had evidence of sustained criminal activity tied to organized networks operating within the FCT.

"Thus, in accordance with Abuja’s Development Control Regulations and public safety protocols, the FCTA, with other security agencies commenced a city-wide cleanup exercise of all identified criminal hideouts across the FCC on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, so as to remove these criminal hideouts, and restore sanity and security to the FCC. A segment of the Jazz and Blues Entertainment at Panorama Recreational Park, Wuse Zone 3, which housed criminal activities was among the locations visited.

"Contrary to claims of abrupt action, the FCTA Department of Development Control issued several Contravention Notices to the Park’s Management prior to the exercise carried out on the August 6, 2025.

"In February 2024, a formal notice was issued to inform the park operator of the identified infractions. This was followedby three formal notices between October 2024 and June 2025, and a final eviction order dated July 25, 2025.

"However, these Contravention Notices issued by the FCTA were completely ignored.

"For the avoidance of doubts, the FCTA wishes to state that the main facilities/activities within the park (i.e. the football field, its viewing platforms, the Gymnasium area, and several other facilities) were unaffected and remain functional following the removal of these criminal elements from the park.

"While the FCTA acknowledges and respects the military service of Air Commodore Balogun, it reiterates that national service is not a license for any individual to harbour criminal elements/activities, and endanger the general public.

"Not minding any orchestrated media reports, the FCTA will continue with the city-wide cleanup exercise in the coming weeks and this shall be extended to other Districts within the FCC, in order to achieve the administration’s goal of building a city where its residents will be safe to live, work and recreate."

PoliticsResponsible Critique Requires Fact-driven Narratives: A Response To Daily Trust by TrioVibes(op): 5:43pm On Aug 07, 2025
RESPONSIBLE CRITIQUE REQUIRES FACT-DRIVEN NARRATIVES: A RESPONSE TO DAILY TRUST EDITORIAL

A recent editorial by Daily Trust paints an exaggerated and unbalanced portrait of Nigeria as a nation overwhelmed by hunger, hardship, and helplessness. We were not surprised by the newspaper's opinion, as the paper has consistently and deliberately misinformed its readers about the government's policy. The Tinubu administration believes in the right of the media to offer constructive criticism, but it must be anchored on facts, not distortion or selective pessimism. The Daily Trust has on several occasions breached this rule by misrepresenting government policies and actions—a trend for which the newspaper has publicly apologised at least twice.

While no one in the Tinubu administration denies that some of our citizens face economic challenges, it is essential to separate honest concern from exaggerated pessimism and generalisation.

The Tinubu administration is not indifferent to the genuine concerns of the people. The irony is that what is often criticised today are, in fact, the policies that will ensure that Nigerians have a more secure, stable, and prosperous future.

Misrepresentations, selective use of projections, and alarmist narratives do not serve the public good; they distract from the genuine progress underway nationwide.

To suggest, as Daily Trust did in its biased editorial, that "Nigerians are hungry" without recognising the government's ongoing interventions perpetuates despair instead of empowering citizens with the truth.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not indifferent to Nigerians' difficulties. On the contrary, he is taking deliberate, targeted steps—many already yielding results—to reset our economy from a legacy of consumption without productivity, opacity without accountability, and policy that served the powerful, not the people.

This is the context that Daily Trust omitted in its jaundiced editorial.

1. UNICEF Projection vs. Cadre Harmonisé Analysis.

The editorial referenced a UNICEF "prediction" from April 2025 stating that 33 million Nigerians, including 16 million children, would face hunger in 2025. This figure has been widely cited but wrongly interpreted.

What was presented was not a UNICEF-specific report but the Cadre Harmonisé Food and Nutrition Insecurity Analysis, jointly prepared by the Federal Government of Nigeria, FAO, WFP, and UNICEF. It is not a current count, but a worst-case projection for the June–August 2025 lean season, assuming no mitigation actions by government or partners.

Here are some of the measures taken by the government to ensure we never get there: Over 42,000 metric tons of grains were released from federal strategic reserves; 117,000 metric tons were under additional procurement; the President activated the Food Security Council; emergency nutrition support was scaled up in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Katsina, Sokoto, and Bauchi States.

Malnutrition is a serious national concern, but let's not localise it as a "Northern Nigeria" crisis. Since 2020, COVID has disrupted the global food system, worsened the Russia-Ukraine war, and is now aggravated by conflict in the Middle East.

According to the World Bank's April 2025 Food Security Update, over 1.4 billion people worldwide are under food stress, a problem that is not unique to Nigeria.

2. The Naira is Not Worthless — It Has Found Its Level and Is Strengthening

The editorial's use of the term "worthless naira" is false and misleading.

Since hitting a low of ₦1,800/$1 in March 2024, the naira has rebounded strongly due to: Increased oil receipts and remittances, Restoration of investor confidence, Unification of the FX window, Reduction of FX backlog by over $4 billion (CBN data, May 2025)

As of August 1, 2025, the naira traded around ₦1,525/$1, a sizable appreciation since its lowest ebb. Nigeria's FX reserves are stabilising, and foreign portfolio inflows are picking up after major reforms in the monetary and fiscal space.

The naira has not collapsed—it has been corrected and is now recovering.

3. Yes, this administration is listening – And Acting on viable Recommendations, not the ones driven by anger and ambition.

We welcome suggestions such as suspending VAT on food, reducing taxes on drugs and medical equipment, and easing the tax burden on MSMEs. The Federal Ministry of Finance and the Fiscal Policy and Tax Reforms Committee are working on many of these.

Starting January 2026, the new tax reforms will:

Streamline over 60 overlapping taxes into fewer, manageable channels. Eliminate nuisance taxes that burden small businesses. Create exemptions for essential goods, including some food and medical items. Encourage state-federal tax harmonisation to stop multiple taxation.

Meanwhile, the President works closely with State Governors through the National Economic Council (NEC) to implement immediate local tax reliefs, VAT waivers, and food market stabilisation efforts in each state.

4. Social Protection Measures Are Expanding, Not Fizzling Out

The claim that the school feeding programme has "fizzled out" is inaccurate and false.

The National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme serves over 9.8 million children in 53,000 schools across 36 states and the FCT.

Over 200,000 cooks and local farmers are engaged in the programme, which is being digitised for transparency and efficiency. The Federal Government has not abandoned the programme.p

On the broader safety net, three million vulnerable households have received ₦75,000 each under the Renewed Hope Conditional Cash Transfer, with plans to scale up to 15 million households. As of August 7, over 396,000 students now benefit from NELFUND tuition loans and stipends.

The Presidential MSME Grant Scheme has disbursed funds to over 250,000 businesses in 2025, supporting small and medium-sized enterprises despite the outcry on CBN interest rates.

CNG bus rollout and transport palliatives are reducing urban commuting costs

5. Global Food Prices Are Also Driving Local Pain — But Nigeria Is Responding

The facts:

The FAO Food Price Index (June 2025) shows global food prices remain 22% above 2019 levels.

Countries like Kenya, Ghana, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka also struggle with food price inflation. But Nigeria, under President Tinubu, is actively mitigating this global shock, by rolling out the following measures: State of Emergency on Food Security; Invested ₦200 billion in dry-season and all-year farming; Targeted 500,000 farmers for input support in 2025; Launched the National Commodity Board to regulate food price volatility; Introduced transport subsidies to cut logistics costs for food.

6. The administration is Coordinating With States to Alleviate Hardship.

The President is not acting in isolation. Joint State-FG food distribution plans are being implemented through ongoing engagements with State Governors, LGAs, development partners, and civil society. States have received direct cash support and grants for local market stabilisation.
Coordination is ongoing to scale up nutrition interventions, including micronutrient support for women and children.

We also acknowledge that hardship is uneven across regions. However, Nigeria is one country, one people, and the fight against hunger is a collective effort, not a northern, southern, Christian, or Muslim issue.

A Time for Unity, Not Despair

Let's speak the truth. Yes, Nigerians are belt-tightening, but Nigeria is healing. The economic surgery undertaken by President Tinubu is not without pain, but it is yielding green shoots.

To those who ask, "Where is the hope?" We say hope is in the stabilising naira, in three million families lifted by direct transfers, and about 400,000 students now schooling without fear of paying fees. Hope is in the 500,000 farmers sowing into a new food system. Hope is in a government that is finally treating poverty not as a slogan but as a solvable problem.

Only recently, this administration launched an effort to drive grassroots economic growth and poverty reduction across Nigeria, as President Bola Tinubu approved a ward-level development strategy called the Renewed Hope Ward Development Programme (RHWDP).

This initiative, which was endorsed by the National Economic Council (NEC) during its 150th meeting, is part of the President's broader Renewed Hope Agenda, which aims for a $1 trillion economy by 2030
Key aspects of the RHWDP include: Targeting all 8,809 wards in Nigeria: The programme is designed to reach every administrative ward, ensuring that no community is left behind in national development efforts.

Focus on key development areas: It aims to serve as a coordinated intervention framework focused on poverty alleviation, food security, rural infrastructure, power supply, and job creation.

Identifying and supporting local economic actors: The program will identify at least 1,000 economically active individuals in each ward and support them in enhancing local manufacturing and business operations. This will generate double-digit growth in most wards as Nigeria progresses towards its $1 trillion economy target.

Several other interventions abound.

This administration does not ask for silence in the face of hardship. It asks only for fairness and a shared commitment to rebuilding this country, not just exaggerating its pain. This is what President Tinubu expects from all Nigerians and well-wishers of our country.

According to the NCAA, the pilots involved in the incident have also had their licenses temporarily suspended, pending the outcome of a full investigation. The agency stressed that aviation safety, order, and respect for standard procedures must be maintained at all times, regardless of status or social standing.
Addressing growing public speculation on social media, the NCAA Director emphasized that there are no “untouchables” in Nigeria’s airspace. He dismissed rumors suggesting that the musician would escape sanctions due to his perceived closeness to the presidency.
“The fact that he is a well-known figure or even close to the President does not exempt him from the law,” he said. “President Bola Tinubu himself is a respecter of the law and would not condone any act that undermines public safety or the regulatory authority of the NCAA.”
The statement is a strong signal to the public and aviation stakeholders that the NCAA intends to uphold its zero-tolerance policy on passenger misconduct and professional lapses by aviation personnel. The authority reiterated its commitment to ensuring that Nigerian airspace remains safe, secure, and governed by clear rules, equally applied to all.
