Q1What Causes breast cancer ?

Ans: Breast cancer is a kind of cancer that develops from breast cells. Breast cancer usually starts off in the inner lining of milk ducts or the lobules that supply them with milk. A malignant tumor can spread to other parts of the body. A breast cancer that started off in the lobules is known as lobular carcinoma, while one that developed from the ducts is called ductal carcinoma.

Q2What are the symptoms of breast cancer ?
Ans: A lump in a breast
A pain in the armpits or breast that does not seem to be related to the woman's menstrual period
Pitting or redness of the skin of the breast; like the skin of an orange
A rash around (or on) one of the nipples
A swelling (lump) in one of the armpits
An area of thickened tissue in a breast
One of the nipples has a discharge; sometimes it may contain blood
The nipple changes in appearance; it may become sunken or inverted
The size or the shape of the breast changes
The nipple-skin or breast-skin may have started to peel, scale or flake
Q3What are the diagnosis of breast cancer ?
Ans : Mammogram
A mammogram is a special type of X-ray taken to look for abnormal growths or changes in breast tissue. It’s a key tool in breast cancer detection, though no test is perfect.
Breast Ultrasound
Doctors sometimes use ultrasound images to check whether a breast lump is a cyst (a fluid-filled sac that is not cancer) or a solid mass
Breast MRI
MRI stands for magnetic resonance imaging. Learn how breast MRI is used to help detect breast cancer.
Breast Biopsy
When doctors perform a biopsy, they remove cells from a suspicious mass to see if it’s cancer. This article provides an overview of breast biopsies.

Q4. Can I get breast cancer if it doesn't run in my family?
Ans: A family history of breast cancer does increase risk; however, more than 80% of women who are diagnosed with breast cancer do not have identifiable risk factors for breast cancer, like a family history.

Q5. What is breast cancer in men ?
Ans : A breast cancer is a malignant tumour that starts from the cells of the breast . A malignant tumour is a group of cancer cells that may group into surrounding tissues or spread to distant areas of the body. Breast cancer occurs mainly in women , but men can get it too. Many people do not realize that men have breast tissue and that they can develop breast cancer .

Health › All You Should Know About Fibroids - Courtesy Primus Hospital , Abuja by Truefacts(op): 6:47am On Jan 30, 2013
FIBROIDS

Uterine fibroids are noncancerous tumors that develop in the womb (uterus), a female reproductive organ. The cause of uterine fibroids is unknown. However, their growth has been linked to the hormone estrogen. As long as a woman with fibroids is menstruating, a fibroid will probably continue to grow, usually slowly.

While most fibroids are asymptomatic, they can grow and cause heavy and painful menstruation, painful sexual intercourse, abdominal discomfort or bloating, painful defecation, urinary frequency and urgency. Some fibroids may interfere with pregnancy although this appears to be very rare
Fibroids can be so tiny that you need a microscope to see them. However, they can grow very large. They may fill the entire uterus, and may weigh several pounds. The health care provider will perform a pelvic exam, ultrasound, pelvic MRI done to confirm the diagnosis followed by the medical & surgical intervention for treating fibroids.

During a pregnancy, existing fibroids may grow due to the increased blood flow and estrogen levels and return to their original size after the baby is delivered.

Health › Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - Health Tip by Truefacts(op): 10:56am On Jan 29, 2013
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is an emergency procedure, performed in an effort to manually preserve intact brain function until further measures are taken to restore spontaneous blood circulation and breathing in a person in cardiac arrest.

CALL- Check the victim for unresponsiveness. If the person is not responsive and not breathing or not breathing normally, call for medical help immediately.
PUMP-If the victim is still not breathing normally, coughing or moving, begin chest compressions. Push down in the center of the chest 2 inches 30 times. Pump hard and fast at the rate of at least 100/minute, faster than once per second, in an effort to create artificial circulation by manually pumping blood through the heart.
BLOW-Tilt the head back and lift the chin. Pinch nose and cover the mouth with yours and blow until you see the chest rise. Give 2 breaths. Each breath should take 1 second, this process is called artificial respiration
CONTINUE WITH 30 PUMPS AND 2 BREATHS UNTIL HELP ARRIVES

The main purpose is to restore partial flow of oxygenated blood to the brain and heart and CPR is only likely to be effective if commenced within 6 minutes after the blood flow stops

Health › Valued Patient Thoughts by Truefacts(op): 8:53am On Jan 29, 2013
My wife met with a serious accident few years ago, we took her to Primus Hospital in emergency as it was the most nearest hospital & there she got operated, it was a life saving surgery. After her discharge we have to visit Primus regularly for my wife’s physiotherapy, As I have to be there for an hour or so. I have requested the staff & Management for the prayer area so that I can perform my prayers during our stay, though I got little busy & couldn’t accompany my wife. But this time when I went to Primus for our regular check up, I was informed that they have constructed a Prayer room especially for patients & attendant where we can go & perform our prayers, I was really happy that they have valued our request. God bless them all.

Wao I am amazed seeing how people can get jealous or suspicious of every good thing coming their way. My mom is a patient in Primus Abuja under c/o Orthopedic department, and I have seen an amazing improvement in her condition & decrease in pain which was killing her. It’s not about boosting about someone’s facility or favoring them, it’s about making people aware of what new advanced & good medical facilities we are having on our soil.

Hypertension

Hypertension, also referred to as high blood pressure, is a condition in which the arteries have persistently elevated blood pressure. Every time the human heart beats, it pumps blood to the whole body through the arteries. Blood pressure is the force of blood pushing up against the blood vessel walls. The higher the pressure the harder the heart has to pump. Hypertension can lead to damaged organs, as well as several illnesses, such as renal failure (kidney failure), aneurysm, heart failure, stroke, or heart attack.

The normal level for blood pressure is below 120/80, where 120 represent the systolic measurement (peak pressure in the arteries) and 80 represents the diastolic measurement (minimum pressure in the arteries) and a blood pressure of 140/90 or above is considered hypertension. Though the exact causes of hypertension are usually unknown, there are several factors that have been highly associated with the condition. These include Smoking, Obesity or being overweight ,Diabetes ,Sedentary lifestyle, High levels of salt intake (sodium sensitivity), Insufficient calcium, potassium, and magnesium consumption, High levels of alcohol consumption and Stress
If you have high blood pressure or someone in your family has or had high blood pressure, it is important to have your blood pressure checked on regular intervals.

If you have a severe headache, nausea or vomiting, bad headache, confusion, changes in your vision, or nosebleeds you may have a severe and dangerous form of high blood pressure called malignant hypertension.[/quote]

Health › All You Should Know About Third Degree Burns - Courtesy Primus Hospital Abuja by Truefacts(op): 8:03am On Jan 25, 2013
3rd Degree Burns

The most serious burns involve all layers of the skin and cause permanent tissue damage. Fat, muscle and even bone may be affected. For major burns, call emergency medical help. Until an emergency unit arrives, follow these steps:

1. Don't remove burned clothing. However, do make sure the victim is no longer in contact with smoldering materials or exposed to smoke or heat.

2. Don't immerse large severe burns in cold water. Doing so could cause a drop in body temperature (hypothermia) and deterioration of blood pressure and circulation (shock).

3. Check for signs of circulation (breathing, coughing or movement). If there is no breathing or other sign of circulation, begin CPR.

4. Elevate the burned body part or parts. Rise above heart level, when possible.

5. Cover the area of the burn. Use a cool, moist, sterile bandage; clean, moist cloth; or moist cloth towels.

Don’t use ice, apply egg whites, butter or ointments to the burn or break the blisters which can cause infection.
Health › Some Hospitals Are Just Not Up To It, Well This One Is Different by Truefacts(op): 12:10pm On Jan 24, 2013
I have been a regular patient with Primus Abuja for my treatment of Hypertension & Diabetes; I come here for my regular Check up. The first time I visited primus was at the time it started & the Hospital continues to upgrade its services. I once came to get my blood test done with my friends as it was urgently required & they said that I have to wait for just 2 -3 hrs for reports, we were all amazed. In the mean time we requested a tour around the Lab to see the facility & they understood our curiosity & showed us the entire Lab. Man it was so hygienic, well organized with latest technology machine, the staff, the coordinators, the doctors were so supportive. One thing i wasn't impressed with was their café, I'd advise them to add more variety in it as it was too dry, and because we to wait for 2-3 hrs in hospital during our check ups, it would have been better.
