The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Mumbai Police has apprehended a Nigerian and two Tanzanian nationals allegedly involved in drug trafficking.
The arrests were made on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, as part of the ANC’s ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling in the city.

The first arrest involved the Nigerian, Chimezie Chika Edward Amaraegbu, 45, who resided in Nalasopara.

He was allegedly caught with a substantial amount of drugs—200 grams of methamphetamine and 100 grams of mephedrone (MD) with an estimated street value of Rs 60 lakh.

Investigations also revealed that Amaraegbu was living in India without valid documents, and he was also booked under violation of the Foreigners Act 1946.

According to the police, he had originally entered India on a medical visa back in 2012 and was supplying drugs to peddlers in the city while also running a garments business.

The Tanzanians, Abdalla Kombo and Bruno Ahmed Ali, were in possession of 60 grams of cocaine when they were arrested at a hotel on Samuel Street in Dongri.

"The ANC’s relentless efforts to track down drug trafficking syndicates in the city led to the successful capture of these suspects,” said Prakash Jadhav, DCP, ANC.

"Throughout 2023, the ANC has been unwavering in its determination to combat drug trafficking, leading to an impressive total of 132 arrests, including those of 15 foreign nationals. The crackdown on drug-related activities has also resulted in the seizure of drugs worth Rs 28.11 crore.

“The Mumbai Police ANC continues to prioritise the safety and security of its citizens by targeting drug networks and apprehending those involved in illegal activities. The recent arrests serve as a stark warning to individuals attempting to smuggle drugs into India and stand as a testament to the effectiveness of law enforcement agencies in curbing drug-related offences,” Jadhav added.

First, you need a mix of politicians and technocrat to balance the game. While Dave Umahi was sacrificing everything, running around campaigns, investing, where are those independent technocrats then? So suddenly you just want them to now eat the cake while sidelining the rest?

One reason why Nigeria never make process is that people lie to themselves. Outside power, they have all the solutions but inside power reality kicks in.

You can be a politician and a technocrat at the same time. You have technocrat politicians like Umahi and non-technocrat politicians like Buhari.

A Nigerian drug trafficker, Ernest Nnajuiba Ukechukwu, has been sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by an Accra High Court after he was found guilty of smuggling cocaine weighing 16,568.83 grams into Ghana.

The Brazil-based Ukechukwu who was sentenced on Tuesday to a minimum of 10 years with hard labour, and will serve an additional three years in default.

Acting Director, Public Affairs and International Relations of Ghana’s Narcotics Control Commission, Francis Opoku Amoah, who disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday, said the Nigerian drug trafficker was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Accra.

“The convict was arrested by NACOC officials at the arrival hall of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on 11 December 2022 when he was going through arrival formalities,” Amoah said.

“Officials picked him up as part of their daily routine where his narrations were found to be distorting, leading to further checks on his luggage, revealing the concealed consignment in his luggage.

“Mr. Ukechukwu was charged with six (6) counts of narcotic offences relating to the importation and possession of narcotic drugs, without lawful authority.

“He was arraigned before the Criminal Court Division of the Accra High Court, where he pleaded guilty to all six counts and was consequently convicted on his plea by the court presided over by Her Lordship Mary Ekue Yanzuh.
