Using the recommended Motor/transmission fluids for your car is a lot more than just your engine dying on you. With thicker oils, the strain on the engine is not instantaneous. However, with time, you experience loss of power and bad/reduced fuel economy which you would mostly not notice. Only very few Nigerians will ever get Fuel economy ratings as stated by manufacturer.. If your engine has to work harder to process thicker oil, what you gain in using Mineral oil, you loose in fuel economy and engine efficiency.

Imagine loosing 2 litres on every full tank of gas you buy for example. in 3 months, you loose more than enough money to buy synthetic oil and still have change....

It is more a case of penny wise, pound foolish. Little wonder Nigerians are the worse abusers of cars in the world.

Imagine claiming to know more than car manufacturers who spend millions of dollars and years on research before settling on choice of fluids, yet, those who claim to know have never produced a pen in their lives. They have no idea what process goes into choosing motor and transmission fluids specs by manufacturers.

Bottom line, read your manual and follow what is written there. Nigeria is not hotter than Qatar and Saudi Arabia or colder than Canada, yet, this countries follow manufacturer specs so as not to void warranty. If your Manual says 20w50, then why not? Otherwise, stop claiming to know more than car manufacturers who have been around for decades and allow people follow manufacturer specs!!!
