CrimeRe: A Tragic Reminder: Amy Winehouse And The Dangers Of Drug Addiction by Tsarbomba(m): 1:33am On Dec 01, 2024
How are the mighty fallen cry
I think we could be doing more to address addiction. For one, we need to break down the stigma surrounding addiction and make it easier for people to seek help. We also need to invest more in research and treatment options, so that we can better understand addiction and develop more effective ways to address it. Additionally, we need to address the root causes of addiction, such as poverty, trauma, and mental health issues. Until we can provide comprehensive support to those struggling with addiction, we'll continue to see tragic losses like Amy Winehouse.

LordAdam16:
It's got nothing to do with that.

The Ukraine War is nearing its end.
Hezbollah is in recovery mode.
Iran is focused on its proxy war with Israel.

This is the last and best opportunity for Erdogan to press for a more favorable deal from Assad.
Erdogan wants a Northern Cyprus situation in Syria.
He can also sell this to his Western partners as taking the initiative on a maneuver that simultaneously advances Western and Israeli interests.

The key objective for the Axis is to stabilize the front.
If I start talking about Iran's responsibilities in this theater, you'll pop a vein about "Mullah-bashing".
Anyway, depending on how things progress, Iran would/should deploy thousands more troops to Syria.

I consider this episode the unavoidable hazard of sitting at a table with treacherous partners.
For better or worse, this is what you get with the Turks.
This is reminiscent of the last Azeri maneuver against Armenia for NK.
The Turks are apex opportunists.
Tehran and Moscow can't even consider the option of cutting Turkey to size (I know it'll be expensive), because it may play into Western plans of switching out Erdogan for a more pliable puppet.

I am going to enjoy the Axis going ham on Idlib.
The presence of Turkish military assets in Idlib sweetens the pot.

Thanks for the insightful post! You've shed light on the complex dynamics at play in Syria. I'm curious to see how the situation in Idlib unfolds. How do you think the Turkish military assets in Idlib will impact the situation?

On the fence about having kids - seeking honest opinions from parents
My girlfriend (24) and I (25) have been together for a while now, and we've been having an ongoing discussion about having children. Initially, we both wanted kids, but as time went on, my girlfrien's views changed after seeing his siblings struggle with unplanned pregnancies and raising children in their early 20s. We also witnessed behavioral issues with kids in our past jobs as teachers and are scared it’s just society at the moment. It’s actually a reason we left the field.

Are people are just lying to us that it’s amazing and worth it because they feel ashamed to say it’s not actually all that great.

We have had 2 of our friend couples tell us not to believe everyone when they say it is worth it they just want you to be miserable as parents just like them. While most other parents say it’s so amazing and that we will regret not having any when we are older.

As we weigh our decision, we want to hear from honest parents: Is this true? is it enjoyable being a parent I am sure there is beautiful memories and times etc but is it worth it? Are the beautiful memories and times worth the challenges and sacrifices? We're not looking for sugarcoated answers or guilt trips. We genuinely want to know if it's worth it.

Also any couples who don’t have kids by choice do you feel a longing like something is missing in your life?

Help us make an informed decision about our future.

Thanks in advance for your candid responses!

How many times are we going to have this on front page?

If not for the redundancy in civil service, Akwa Ibom state is rich enough to pay civil servants N200,000 monthly.

Akpabio spent 8 years on infrastructure. According to him, infrastructure will attract investors and pave way for industrialization. The plan was to focus on infrastructure and his successor would focus on industrialization.

The fine-boy fraud that succeeded him spent 8 years lavishing the state resources and churning out mantras on a yearly (Only God, daakada etc). to bamboozle Akwa Ibomites. One or two projects in his senatorial district to appease the gods, while the ones Akpabio built deteriorate. The once beautiful Uyo city has now been thrown into darkness. Even streetlights are no longer functioning.

This current governor is even worse than his predecessors. You don't hear a single positive news from that state again, unlike the days of Godswill Akpabio where Akwa Ibom graced our TV screens with news of developmental strides on a daily.

The population of Akwa Ibom is roughly 5m. A bulk of our people are scattered around the country, working their asses in hotels, small private firms (as securities, secretaries, lift operators, and other non-professional positions), and federal government agencies, because there are no jobs at home.

Visit Akwa Ibom today, you'll see a beautiful state, with plenty of poverty-stricken people... Well, apart from a few who are in government or close to the government that are feeding fat on the state resources, using their ill-gotten wealth to build hotels on every street, while using religion to deceive our people.

Gov. Eno... Get that seaport project started! The Ibom power plant should be up and running, Akwa Ibom should get off that epileptic National power grid, woo investors to start that modular refinery project, get that EV automobile assembly plant started, create more ICT hubs for the youths and pay them stipends monthly. We have palm oil.. Revive the oil plantations and build modern mills for palm oil export. Get a hold of our crude oil and ensure Akwa Ibomites are employed in oil companies and servicing firms.
Well spoken. Are you from Akwa ibom?
Foreign AffairsRe: Can The U.S Military Defeat Iran? by Tsarbomba(m): 8:36pm On Oct 03, 2024
Depends on your definition of defeat? Or a better way to put it, depends on what the definition of US victory is?

If it’s simply to force the capitulation or destruction of the Iranian Government and its military, it would actually be pretty easy.

The first step would be to blockade the Persian Gulf. Send in just one naval fleet, and its done. The Iranians barely have a Navy worth mentioning.

The second step would be to destroy the Pars Oil Fields within the Gulf, which produce depending on the measurement some 80% of all Iranian oil. That basically ends their economy in just one day.

The third step would be to conduct daily bomb runs on infrastructure. Bomb roads, bridges, communication lines, oil depots, and military centers. The US has Stealth Aircraft Bombers that likely over 95% of them would remain undetected as they conducted their bombing runs. Plus, the US Navy could fire off the coastline without any interference.

The fourth step would then be to ask for a political surrender. Demand the government and military leaders to step down 😁😉

How about in reducing insecurity, reducing inflation and reducing unemployment? I’m not asking anybody to start caring about high minded principles, grin or to make personal sacrifices “for the good of the nation”. I am saying all of us have something to lose by things staying the way they are, and that we have something to gain by finding a way to change it. And for once, so does almost everybody else- the poor, the middle class and even many of the elite would all benefit from less insecurity, less inflation and less unemployment. So why not make it happen?
Bro most people recognize democracy in Nigeria as nothing more than a meaningless formality, most of us know those with enough power to rig the elections will rig it and get away with it, not to mention the godfatherisim and powerbroking cesspool that is our politics.

Secondly many are wealthy and well connected due to the existence of said corruption in the first place. Many MIGHT want to do something about it but why do so when they benefit?
PoliticsRe: Why Are Middle Class Nigerians Not Forming Their Own Political Party? by Tsarbomba(m): 5:00pm On Sep 26, 2024
SpyMaster1:
I agree 100%. That is why I am saying that we need to get the politically active members of each region talking to each other. Rewriting the constitution is a long and difficult process. For now it makes more sense to try and build a party around the few issues that all states/most states can agree on, and to leave the option open for weaker federal control at the constitutional level if that party is successful.

Basically, instead of decentralising the constitution first, and then forming decentralised parties, why not form a decentralised party first (that forms it policies according what separate state-level chapters are willing to agree to), and then using that party to push for decentralisation of the constitution over time?
Nigeria’s middle class aren’t interested in development or programmatic political agendas.
PoliticsRe: Why Are Middle Class Nigerians Not Forming Their Own Political Party? by Tsarbomba(m): 4:36pm On Sep 26, 2024
Most of the politicians today are coming from the middle class, no matter what you do in this current current constitution, Nigeria is not going to work with this current political system that we are practicing. We are more ethnically attached. how are you going to convince a core northern state to vote christian from southeast. we need to go back to the regional system of govt and make the center weaker. Let each region control its resources and develop at its own pace.

Let me give you some examples that show why I admire Diogenes. cheesy cheesy

Plato’s Man
He lived at the same time as the famous philosopher Plato, who he spent a lot of his life ridiculing. The most famous case of this was while Plato was attempting to define a man, he came up with the definition that a man was a featherless-biped. On hearing this, Diogenes found a chicken, plucked out all its feathers and then ran into Plato’s school holding it while proclaiming “Behold, Plato’s man”.

Meeting Alexander the Great
Alexander was greatly interested in philosophy and was a great fan of Diogenes. Upon visiting Diogenes, he was excited to see him and asked if there was any favour at all that Diogenes asked of him. In response, Diogenes, when offered a favour from among the most powerful men alive, replied:

"Yes, step away. You’re blocking my sunlight."

Impressed by this Alexander famously said:

"If I were not Alexander, then I should wish to be Diogenes."

To which Diogenes responded:

"If I were not Diogenes, I too would wish to be Diogenes,”

Living Conditions
Diogenes spent many years living in a ceramic vase on the streets (entirely by choice) possessing nought but some clothes and one wooden bowl. He reportedly then broke this bowl upon seeing a servant boy drink from his hands proclaiming:

"Fool that I am, to have been carrying superfluous baggage all this time!”

Henceforth he drank from his hands.

Searching for an Honest Man
He would also on regular occasion walk around in broad daylight carrying a lamp and go around looking through crowds and when asked what he was doing, he would proclaim that he was looking for an honest man but unfortunately could not find one.

Public Indecency
Many complained about his actions as he was frequently known to:

—Eat in the marketplace

—Defecate in the theatre

—Urinate on people who insulted him

—Masturbate in public

A story upon similar lines states that, when someone took him into a magnificent house and warned him not to spit on anything, he promptly spat straight into the man’s face claiming he could see nowhere else to spit.

Burial
When asked how he wanted his remains to be treated after death he requested that he be thrown over the city walls as long as he was given a stick with which to fend off animals. When it was pointed out that he would not be able to use this seeing as he would be… well, dead, he responded by asking why then he should care what happens to him as he would already be dead.

Although he certainly wasn’t as influential as many other philosophers and never wrote any books or taught classes, there are no other philosophers as entertaining to read about. grin grin

I know the economy is bad but worrying and thinking about it consistently can adversely affect your mental health (by worsening anxiety and depression), it can also affect your physical health (by raising blood pressure and making it more difficult to recover from illness). embarassed undecided These are just a few examples of how mindset and health are connected.

Christianity EtcRe: Should We Listen To What Solomon Says In Ecclesiasties? by Tsarbomba(m): 10:41am On Sep 19, 2024
King Solomon actually knew what was up. “Everything is vanity and striving after the wind”. The wisest man in history turned his back on God for a reason. It baffled me as to why would the wisest person to ever exist would turn his back on God. Whether or not he actually existed, the story still makes complete sense to me.

Apparently having maximum wisdom leads a person away from the worship of a bronze-age deity that has now been defunct for at least 2000 years. cheesy

I believe he actually nailed it here in Ecclesiastes 2:24 where he says “there is nothing better for a man to eat and drink and find his enjoyment in his hard work”. Conspicuously no mention of slaving away to a god, or anyone claiming to represent a god. cheesy grin

What is most ironic, is that this very man supposedly wrote the typical “clapback” to critical thinking: “Do not become wise in your own eyes”, and “Do not lean upon your own understanding”. (Prov 3:5, 7). Though later in the same book, the opposite sentiment is expressed where it says in 18:17: “The first to state his case seems right, until the other party comes and cross examines him”. Objective and critical thinking expressed in a nutshell. cool cool
RomanceRe: Memento Mori Is Liberating And At The Same Time Depressing by Tsarbomba(m):

Yes. Life will become less meaningful.

Just as sand isn't valued compared to let's say gold, immortality will make life less valuable.

When there is only birth and living forever, without death and living shortly, there is no mourning for the dead, and no value for life.

Threatening someone with prison is meaningless because they will be out and live forever anyways. Concepts like procrastination, intentionality, and living uprightly won't exist.

The very essence of mortality and fleeting time gives meaning to all these things.
I think we have a very limited time. There is so much that I would like to learn and do but it is unlikely that I can get everything done in my lifetime.

If I had an infinite life, I could live a year or 5 years in each country in the world so I could learn about culture. Then I could spend a few decades learning about physics, chemistry, or biology. Then I could start a farm and learn how to live on the land. By that time, I’m sure I would have other goals that I could work on.

Some people are saying that without death, we would never get started on anything. I very much doubt that. I don’t go to work because I will die. I go to work because I need money and I like what I do. My life is interesting when I am productive.

Other people are saying that the world will be overpopulated if we have infinite lives. I imagine that people would have less children if they knew the children would live and they didn’t need children to take care of them in old age. We have already seen that when people are more wealthy, they have less children.

Imagine what you could do with the wisdom and knowledge you would have after a few hundred years of life. It would be a lot closer to meaningful than it is now.

I've written about this subject before.

I use to have the wallpaper on my laptop screen, and each week, a box was ticked off, giving a general overview of how many years more I'll live, within the space of 100 years.

It can help with procrastination, and also to make you value each day and realise that time is all you have.
Hypothetical: If somehow humans would achieve immortality (both defeating aging, disease and let's say gunshot wounds and such) would life be any less meaningful?

Just curious about people's answers.
