Ofemannnu:
Nnamdi Azikiwe and his people betrayed the SW when they chose to collaborate with the North instead of Chief Obafemi Awolowo and the West.
Following the crucial December 1959 federal elections, which ended in a hung parliament, Azikiwe’s National Council of Nigeria and the Cameroons (NCNC) met with Awolowo's Action Group (AG) to negotiate a southern coalition.
Despite Awolowo offering to concede the Prime Minister position to Azikiwe, the alliance collapsed. Instead, Azikiwe formed a coalition government with Sir Ahmadu Bello's Northern People’s Congress (NPC), leading Nigeria into independence.
Absolutely correct

All these political assassination ehn
The president knows who killed any high profile person in the country. Whether it is right for him to say or not, that is another question.

If you want to know who killed Dele Giwa, ask IBB
If you want to know who killed Kudirat, ask Abacha(Rogers the hitman already confirmed that at the Oputa panel.
If you want to know who killed Bola Ige, ask OBJ
If you want to know who killed MKO, ask Abdulsalam Abubakar

Igbos were here voting others
But one time they are pressing for the position, we start hearing all manner of rubbish. Imagine it was an Igbo man that annulled the election, tribalists and bigots will never cease to tell the story anytime its election time.
This is the problem. Igbos need to understand No one is denying igbo presidency because of tribe. Igbo needs to play mainstream politics and stop being regional. Igbo played proper mainstream politics in PDP and u can see the benefit. That period created a lot of politics titans from the east. You had control of the senate. Luckily OBJ was so national in outlook and used a lot of bright brains from the east to run his government. He had 3 Igbo senate presidents, Igbo chiefs of staff, okonjo iweala, soludo, Dora akunyili, frank nweke junior, uche chukwumerije, chuwuemeka chikelu, ojo maduekwe, obi ezekwesili.

Unfortunately a lot of igbos were not on board with APC when APC snatched power from PDP. Do you expect APC players to say now thay we have gotten power, igbo politicians come and collect power. It is you that will join them and demand for what is yours. Power is not served à la carte. Tinubu would have remained a champion of lagos, at best south west politics, if he didnt align with the the North(Buhari). Obafemi Awolowo is/was the biggest political titan from the west. With his brilliant mind, he couldn't get it because He was quite regional in outlook. Igbos should start playing mainstream again.

This post is about politics, not governance.
This post is not an endorsement of APC or Tinubu. He is bad for the country just like the 2 that came before him.

Only God knows why they are always working against Yoruba interest.
Historically the east used to have a better alliance with the North. The south west now seem to have found their way in aligning with the North. This is the issue. Its like 2 women married to the same man trying to be the favorite of the man.
I know this sounds strange, like how can the backward north be the one everyone is running after. But yes as far as election is concerned they are the prize, just because they have the number and more importantly because they have learnt to largely speak with 1 voice in elections
PoliticsRe: How Nigerians Voted On June 12, 1993 by tunapawizzy: 12:58pm On Jun 14
heysquare:
Igbos like to vote for Hausa in every election while Hausa will never vote Igbos to be president no matter how rather they will support South South as VP or President. only SW and SS will continue to produce either President or VP in as much as Igbos continue the kind of politics they're playing.
Interestingly igbos have a good history of alliance with the North.
-First republic NPC(North)/NCNC(East) alliance controlled government AG(West) played opposition alone.
-Second republic NPN(north)/NPP(east) formed alliance that isolated UPN(west)
-Third republic Government was not formed(IBB tsunami) but NRC ticket was still a ticket flown by the Bashir Tofa and a politician from the East. Result of the election shows the NRC won in the East.

West still played largely regional in 1999 with AD(Falae). OBJ getting PDP ticket in 1999 as compensation to the west for the Abiola mandate theft was the action that changed the trajectory for the west.

Hopefully the igbos can start aligning properly again. Regional politics will not work in a diverse nation like Nigeria. A lot of your titans will be isolated, no matter how brilliant they are. In Nigeria, you cant excel projecting your party as party for your zone. Even if thats the case, you will give it a semblance of national ownership. See PDP, we all knew its a party of Norther military generals, but they brought a lot of important igbo politicians to the table, then gave ticket to a yoruba man.
See APC, steadily giving the North a sense of belonging, recruiting igbo politicians into their fold.

My point is, why is it a problem that these days SW alignment with the North is a problem or some form of betrayal. Dont get all mixed up, I am from the SW and I am not for APC/Tinubu, never been for him.

Which SW?
The data and number says one thing but you people like to say the opposite. These are the stats from 1999 till date.

In 2023
SE 87% Obi, 5% Tinubu 4% Atiku
SW 53% Tinubu 22% Atiku, 19% Obi
SS 41% Obi 31% to Tinubu 22% Atiku
NOTE that in 2023 Obi's number was suppressed in SW and SS and Tinubu's number inflated in SS and some SW states. By a combination of INEC, and state governors in those states. Otherwise we would have seen a more one-side result in SS and a more evenly-spread number in SW

In 2019
SE gave 68% to Atiku 29% to Buhari
SW gave 54% to Buhari 42% to Atiku
SS gave 68% to Atiku 28% to Buhari

Eba50:
did south east not go with obasanjo, against both olu falae and buhari?
I get your point but Falae was still the candidate of the South West. Falae won all 6 SW states including Obasanjos ogun state. So yes although SE went with a yoruba man, it was still against the position of the south west, it was still much more of an alliance with the North-Gana, Lar, Ciroma, Lamido, Rimi, IBB, and the entire Northern military hegemony. ObJ was just supposed to be a tool they can control and dangle at the SW to compensate for MKO robbery
PoliticsRe: How Nigerians Voted On June 12, 1993 by tunapawizzy: 10:45am On Jun 13
So SE decided to go with Tofa
Why is it now suddenly a problem when SW decides to align with the North.
In the first republic too, Azikwe's NCNC eventually formed an alliance with the North's NPC against Awolowo's AG.
2nd republic, they still formed an alliance with shehu shagari.
3rd republic still went with Tofa against Abiola

I dont like that they are attacking foreigners, but there is something we should take away from this, its high time to rise against the Nigerian system, the Nigerian leaders. Hold them by the throat, so they can listen.
I hope tribalism will not come in the way of young Nigerians speaking with one voice.
