How Jihadists Are Holding Burkina Faso Hostage. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx3xmHyURVM Ever since Captain Ibrahim Traore became the president of Burkinafaso, the activities of jihadists increased in high proportions. Burkina Faso—once a land of promise—is now trapped in a deadly stranglehold. Jihadist groups, led by Jama’a Nusrat ul-Islam wa al-Muslimin, or JNIM, are holding the nation hostage. These extremists, with ties to al-Qaeda, have turned vast swaths of the country into war zones. Roads are mined, towns besieged, and entire regions cut off from the rest of the world. Over 2 million people have been displaced. Schools lie abandoned. Hospitals have been attacked. Aid convoys are blocked or ambushed. JNIM’s strategy is clear: isolate, control, and dominate. In just April 2025, JNIM claimed responsibility for: * 42 raids * 5 ambushes * Destruction of 134 vehicles * Capture of 19 military vehicles and 197 motorcycles * Seizure of over 970 weapons * And the killing of 530 people—many of them civilians. This isn't just insurgency. It's terrorism with a calculated plan to dismantle society and replace it with a brutal ideology. But what's more alarming is the type of weaponry being used. Analysts and field operatives have observed that many of the weapons in JNIM’s possession are high-grade military arms—the kind not available on the black market, and far too advanced to have been looted locally. These weapons point to a chilling reality: foreign state sponsorship. Governments outside Africa—acting through covert channels—may be arming the terrorists, not just to destabilize Burkina Faso, but to sabotage the wave of pan-African independence rising across the Sahel. A Nation Cornered. Burkina Faso’s military, stretched thin and under-equipped, struggles to push back. Civilians, armed through local militias, are caught between defending their communities and facing reprisals from jihadists. The state’s authority in several regions has all but vanished—leaving local populations under the control of armed extremists who enforce harsh versions of Islamic law. Burkina Faso today is not just fighting for territory—it's fighting for its soul. A hostage to terror, its fate hangs in the balance. And as the world watches, the question looms: Who is after Burkina Faso, Who is sponsoring the jihadists? Will Burkina Faso rise again, or be buried under the weight of a war it never asked for? Follow us on TV Afrique Networks as we shed more lights on events across Africa.

The Ekumeku Movement. In the heart of what is now southern Nigeria lies Anioma, a land of proud traditions and resilient people. Between 1883 and 1914, this region became the stage for one of the most formidable and sustained resistances to British colonial rule. This was the Ekumeku Movement, a series of uprisings that spanned three decades. The movement was not merely a rebellion but a symbol of defiance and unity in the face of imperial domination. This rebellious uprising will later inspire the Mau Mau resistance movement in Kenya, in far away East Africa. Ekumeku Movement: The Road to Conflict. The British arrived in West Africa with grand ambitions, drawn by the promise of resources and wealth. The Royal Niger Company, a private enterprise with imperial backing, sought to dominate the region’s trade, particularly the lucrative palm oil industry. But in Anioma, they met resistance. The Anioma people, an Igbo-speaking group known for their strong cultural identity, viewed the British not as partners but as invaders. By the 1880s, tensions had escalated, fueled by British demands for trade monopolies and their enforcement of unfair treaties. Anioma’s leaders refused to bow to these pressures, setting the stage for the Ekumeku War. Birth of the Ekumeku Movement. The word “Ekumeku” translates to “Do not speak about it.” It was more than a name; it was a code of secrecy and solidarity. The Ekumeku Movement was a network of Anioma warriors united under this principle. They were bound by oaths, their strategies steeped in the traditions and spiritual beliefs of their ancestors. Operating as a guerrilla force, the Ekumeku warriors employed unconventional tactics, using the dense forests and their knowledge of the terrain to outmaneuver the British. Their initiation rituals were shrouded in mystery, designed to instill loyalty and resilience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BaczsPDkJ3c Follow TV Afrique Networks for more videos. https://tvafriquenetworks.com/

Canada Turning Back Many Indian and Nigerian Visitors at Airports. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8MWkKObBbo Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officials have recently been turning back numerous Indian and Nigerian visitors at Canadian airports, often offering them the option to apply for refugee status instead. This practice has raised concerns among travelers, particularly those with approved visitor visas stamped on their passports. Reports from Toronto and Montreal airports indicate that genuine family members visiting Canada, sometimes for the second or third time, are being denied entry despite having valid visas. A recent incident on July 8 involved over 40 Indian visitors arriving on Air Canada Flight No. AC-51 at Montreal airport, who were refused entry and asked to return to their home country or apply for refugee status. Many of these visitors were elderly and had limited English proficiency, complicating their ability to explain their visit's purpose. In one case, an officer was reportedly rude to elderly parents visiting for the second time, granting them only a one-month stay instead of the usual six months. Their brother-in-law faced repeated pressure to apply for refugee status and endured a 10-hour ordeal before receiving a one-month stay. Similar incidents have affected the Nigerian diaspora. One Nigerian visitor was harassed and sent back the day after arrival, while another was turned back on June 29 because he did not travel with his spouse. In May, Montreal officers allegedly forced tourist visa holders to apply for refugee status for around 12 hours. A visa does not guarantee entry into Canada under Canadian law. However, these recent actions by CBSA have sparked concern among affected communities, who question the treatment of legitimate visitors. CBSA officials emphasize the importance of securing borders, but these measures are seen as excessively harsh and disruptive to genuine travelers. As the situation develops, there is growing pressure on Canadian authorities to address these concerns and ensure fair treatment for all visitors. Nigerians have commenced protests against 'bad governance,' defying government appeals to halt the demonstrations. Thousands of citizens are participating in ten days of nationwide protests starting today. The organisers, predominantly young people, express frustration over the country’s economic conditions, pledging “days of rage” in their demonstrations. Their demands include the reversal of the fuel price hike, restoration of affordable electricity tariffs, and reduction of import duties to previous rates. Additionally, they call for reversing hikes in tertiary education fees, ensuring full transparency and accountability in governance, publicly disclosing and reducing public officials' salaries and allowances, and establishing an emergency fund to support SMEs. States Participating in Protests as of August 1st, 2024 includes: - Gombe State - Rivers State - Edo State - Kano State - Jigawa State - Abuja - Lagos State Gombe Sate And Some parts of Delta State. While protests are largely peaceful, incidents of vandalism and looting have been reported in Kano and Gombe State. The State Security Service (SSS) claims the protests aim to undermine the government and cause chaos, and the Nigerian Army has warned of potential anarchy, promising proactive measures to maintain order. Security Tightened Amid Protests Nigerian troops and police have bolstered security in Lagos and the capital, Abuja, as protests over the rising cost of living are expected to continue for 10 days. The country is grappling with soaring inflation and a sharply devalued naira after President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's economic reforms introduced a year ago. Tagged #EndbadGovernanceinNigeria, the protest movement has gained momentum with an online campaign as Nigerians face food inflation at 40% and tripled fuel prices. On Thursday, police fired tear gas to disperse demonstrators in Abuja. In Kano, protesters attempted to light bonfires outside the governor’s office, leading to a police response with tear gas. Security forces have blocked roads leading to Abuja’s Eagle Square, a planned demonstration site, and in Lagos, police and soldiers are stationed at strategic points, including the Lekki toll gate, the site of the 2020 protests against police brutality that ended in bloodshed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ceE0ZOnF-5k Follow us for more videos. https://tvafriquenetworks.com/

Dangote Versus NNPCL: The Battle for Nigeria's Energy Future Nigeria’s energy landscape is embroiled in a heated dispute between Dangote Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Limited (NNPCL). The $20 billion Dangote petrochemicals refinery, intended to alleviate Nigeria’s reliance on imported refined fuel, now faces serious business jeopardy due to allegations of unfair regulatory practices and monopoly attempts by the NNPCL. Dangote claims that the Domestic Crude Oil Supply Regulation is being unfairly implemented, favoring NNPCL’s refining operations and limiting crude oil supply to his refinery. This regulation was introduced to manage crude oil distribution to local refineries, but Dangote argues it is used to undermine private sector efforts. Further complicating the situation, Dangote revealed that NNPCL's stake in his refinery dropped from 20% to 7.2% due to unmet terms of a 2022 agreement. In response, NNPCL has questioned the quality of products from Dangote 's refinery and countered claims of unfair practices, suggesting regulatory oversight and market competition as necessary for the sector. This feud has significant implications for Nigeria's quest to attract foreign direct investment (FDI) and achieve energy sufficiency. The standoff highlights the paradox in Nigeria’s energy policy and raises concerns about the balance between supporting indigenous investments and ensuring fair regulatory practices. The silence of President Bola Tinubu, who also serves as the Minister of Petroleum Resources, adds another layer of complexity to the issue. As the situation escalates, stakeholders and policymakers must find a resolution that supports Nigeria's energy goals without stifling private investments critical to the sector's growth. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=exQDBO6SdPo TV Afrique Networks https://tvafriquenetworks.com/

Welcome to TV Afrique News. We're following events in Harehills, Leeds, England, where a significant public disturbance has taken place. At around 5 PM on July 18, 2024, what began as a routine response to a residential street disturbance by West Yorkshire Police escalated into a full-blown riot. Described as a "family incident" and a "child protection matter," the situation quickly intensified. Reports indicate that tensions rose as more local residents gathered at the scene. As the crowd swelled to hundreds, anger and frustration boiled over. In a dramatic escalation, individuals began attacking a police car with scooters, pushchairs, bikes, and bats. This sparked further chaos, with a double-decker bus set on fire and fires ignited in the streets, leading to widespread disorder. BoldBrainz:We normally do not respond to people online especially ignorant folks like you but we choose to respond to you because you seem to be abusing your privilege of being ignorant on a global platform. You are not the only ignorant person online. Please keep your ignorance to yourself, do not force it down other people's throat. It is because of people like your that intelligent journalists do not abound in Africa because when we make a publication and present information that is somewhat alien to you, instead of you to do a simple research and learn from it, the first thing you do is to ignorantly attack the author. You even had the audacity to say that I wrote nonsense. Look at the location of Calabar on the map again before you make a mockery of yourself publicly. Geographically speaking, Calabar, Cross River State is located in Nigeria's South East. Whatever you designate it politically does not change the location on the map.
