Kalatium: There’s a man in my neighborhood whose story has stayed with me.
Years ago, his home was a hub of life. Teenagers everywhere. Music blasting. Laughter spilling into the street. Young boys full of promise, respect, and energy. A mother holding the center. A family in motion.
Fast forward to today and the house is silent.
One son is gone. Another has relocated. The wife and daughters have moved on. What remains is a man sitting alone behind a gate, cooking for himself, washing his own clothes, watching the days pass without the noise that once defined his life.
This is a reality we rarely discuss.
We talk about career growth. We talk about wealth. We talk about legacy.
But we almost never talk about male loneliness in old age.
For many men, life slowly narrows: Children grow up. Homes empty out. Visits reduce. Attention fades.
Mothers are remembered, celebrated, visited with gifts and affection. Fathers, too often, are left behind quietly enduring, saying little, asking for nothing, but feeling everything.
This isn’t about blame. It’s about awareness.
Sons: Your father may not say much. He may act distant or grumpy. But he wants connection too. He wants to feel seen.
Daughters: Celebrate your fathers, not just on special days, but in ordinary moments. Presence matters more than presents.
Fathers: Be kind to your wives. Be warm with your children. Emotional deposits made today compound in old age.
Because here’s the uncomfortable truth: No promotion, no achievement, no title prepares a man for an empty house.
Old age doesn’t arrive suddenly, it creeps in quietly.
And how we love, show up, and stay connected today determines whether later years feel full… or painfully hollow.
This is not just a family issue. It’s a societal one.
SpencerForbes: Wetin I do nítorí oloún. The funny thing is, I'm not even on social media. And let's be clear: Nairaland isn't social media; it's a discussion forum where you actually go to learn stuff. When you have smart people debating, you're always going to have a little 'disagreeing to eventually agree'—that's how we all get smarter! I really miss the old days when the brilliant minds were sparking epic debates.
Now, it feels like it's just toxic people who jump straight to insults whenever they disagree.
You are so right!!! We have all been divided by politics and politicians

manuelkel: Expecting what? Dangote is a hypocrites, why not use the 1 trillion to enhance the education of their region? Go to north and see how poor their education and health ministries are, but no their real-jion have blinded them. Channeling 1 trillion naira into these sectors would be more beneficial to his people and not throwing money up and down thinking you are doing well. Misplaced spendings.
Peeing after sex is a good thing to keep infections away. Ask any doctor, that doesn't mean your sperm won't reach its destination, also go and check yourself to know if you are not sterile
PureSperm: Good morning Nairalanders, Please there's this issue that has been bothering me for a while now. There's this lady whom I met and have been dating for about 3 years now.
Though we've been doing alright all these while but suddenly she started having dreams concerning my family. Last night, she had a dream and she said inside the dream, my elder sister was berating her why she hasn't gotten pregnant for me all these while.
The truth of the matter is that we've only been cohabiting for 8 months and she hasn't for once missed her period.
Whenever we made love, I always noticed that she'd go the bathroom to pee and wash her private part. I have asked many elderly people around what that means and they keep telling me she doesn't want to get pregnant. Is that even possible at all?
The other disturbing part is that her mother is a traditional religious woman who worships the gods of her village and my woman also does the same. Recently I've been considering on how to marry her and have even been working towards it, and would be around March, next year.
Please, Nairalanders, what could be the problem. Should I go ahead with the whole relationship, considering how her family background is surrounded by the traditional religious practices of her family and how fetish she's. Could that also be the reason she has been finding it very difficult to take in?
Please mods, help me push this to the front page so that I can hear from others experiences and get a wider advise on how to go about this.
Make she no wash up after doing the do? E be like na u get problem...u like am por smelly smelly
