BusinessNAIRA And Yuan Deal Latest...!!! by tymdan(op): 11:18am On Oct 11, 2016
The lingering Naira-Yuan swap deal is set to be achieved as part of strategies to reduce the huge dollar demand and pressure on the local currency.

Nigerian officials and those from China are currently meeting to fine tune the deal, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, said.

Emefiele gave the indication at the ongoing International Monetary Fund/World Bank Group yearly meetings in Washington DC.

According to him, there is a lot of “networking meetings going on, and I can assure you that meetings are going on with some of our partners, particularly, China.”

He said there would be positive outcome and noted that some of the meetings included the Managing Director of IMF as well as the World Bank Group, in an effort to achieve some of the objectives.

“I believe in the course of time, we would achieve it. Nigeria happens to be one of the foremost countries in the world that adopted the Remimbi as a reserve currency.

“We would work together with China, to ensure that we also get our fair share of the benefit from this arrangement,” he said.

The deal was meant to assist in easing the pressure on Nigeria’s foreign exchange, foreign exchange reserve which has been declining rapidly. From a peak of over $50 billion during former president Olusegun Obasanjo’s era a few years ago, when crude oil was selling at over $100 per barrel, to the present low of about $25 b as oil price hovers around $50 per barrel.

China has Yuan swap arrangements with 28 countries worldwide, including financially sound nations like the Kingdom of Great Britain and Australia.

Basically, the Naira/Yuan currency swap would allow Nigeria borrow Yuan and lend naira for purchases from China by simply short circuiting the process of converting the Nigerian currency to dollar before further conversion of the dollar to Yuan.

PoliticsHow 154 Nigerians Were Deported From Libya by tymdan(op): 10:51am On Oct 11, 2016
Some Nigerians trapped in Libya have been deported to Nigeria

– They were deported with the help of the International Office for Migration (IOM)

– The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Police Force, the Air Force and the IOM were on ground to receive the deportees.

The Nation reports that no fewer that 154 Nigerians were on Monday, October 10, deported from Libya.

According to a source, the return of the deportees, was facilitated by the assistance of the International Office for Migration (IOM) who are responsible for the voluntary return of many Nigerians trapped in the crisis that has immersed Libya for some years now.

Some of the deportees also include those trying to make their way to Europe excluding those trapped in the crisis.

Immigration sources said that they arrived at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos at about 4.00 pm.

It was reported that the deportees arrived on board a Libyan airline aircraft, an airbus A330-200 with registration number 5A-LAT.

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), the Nigerian Police Force, the Air Force and the IOM were on ground to receive them.

Out of the returnees were three minors, nine pregnant women, and three others with medical challenges which in total, comprised of 96 women and 58 men.

Also on board was an IOM doctor, Abusrewi Zakariya, to provide first aid to the sick ones.

The head of IOM in Lagos, Nahashon Maina Thuo, said this was the fourth time this year that the organisation would assist Nigerians who volunteered to return home after they were stranded in Libya.

Meanwhile, barely six months ago, 172 Nigerians have been repatriated from Libya, among whom were a 12-year-old boy and five women.

They were said to be on their way to Europe from Libya when they were apprehended by the Libyan government and detained.

They were repatriated with the help of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in close cooperation with the Libyan authorities and Nigeria’s embassy in Tripoli.
PoliticsWhat Senator Akpabio Said About DSS Arrest Of Judges. by tymdan(op): 9:50am On Oct 11, 2016
A former Governor of Akwa Ibom and Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio (PDP/Akwa Ibom North-West), has condemned social media reports linking him with bribery allegations against Supreme Court judges.

The Department of State Services (DSS), over the weekend arrested seven judges, including two justices of the Supreme Court, in what it said was multiple sting operations across the country.

The DSS accused the judges of bribery and corruption.

Reacting to the reports, Mr. Akpabio said it was “spurious, baseless and false”.

The report, which was published on the social media, claimed that Akpabio bribed Supreme Court judges to swing the 2015 Akwa Ibom governorship election petition in favour of the Peoples Democratic Party candidate and incumbent governor, Udom Emmanuel.

It would be recalled that the All Progressives Congress in the state, earlier this year, asked President Muhammadu Buhari to probe the Supreme Court judgment which declared Mr. Emmanuel winner of the governorship election in the state after the Appeal Court sacked him from office.

“We wish to state most emphatically that Senator Akpabio is in no way involved in the alleged bribery of Supreme Court judges and so has no reason whatsoever to be scared over the arrest of the Judges”, the former governor said yesterday through a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Media, Anietie Ekong.

The senator, who accused the APC in the state of sponsoring the story against him, said he never had any contact with any judge with the intention to offer bribe, adding that he was exploring the option of going to court to protect his reputation.

Senator Akpabio said it was sad for the APC in Akwa Ibom to celebrate the ordeals of one of the arrested judges of the Supreme Court, Justice Inyang Okoro, who is an indigene of the state, instead of the party to wait for the DSS to conclude its investigations.

He said “in the last few years” the only time he had contact with Supreme Court justices was in December last year when the Senate Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, in which he is the vice chairman, visited the Chief Justice of the Federation and other judges of the apex court.

“Senator Akpabio, as a democrat, believes in the sanctity of the electoral process and so has not been involved in bribing any Judge as it is not in his character to do so. His election as a Senator which was seen as a no contest after a sterling performance as Governor of Akwa Ibom State was widely held as free and fair”, the statement said.

“Senator Akpabio like many other Nigerians learnt of the news of the arrest of the Judges/ Justices on Saturday while he was in Irrua, Edo State when he along with the Senate President and other Senators attended the wedding of the daughter of their colleague, Senator Clifford Ordia.

“It is most disingenuous and reprehensible for Akwa Ibom State APC to attempt to link Senator Akpabio to something he has no knowledge of and impute he was gripped with fear when he was busy celebrating with his colleague on the marriage of his daughter in Irrua, Esan Central Local Government of Edo State.

“We condemn it in very strong terms and advice those whose stock in trade and preoccupation is to link Senator Akpabio to every ignominious scheme to desist from such pull-him-down syndrome”.

Phones10 Interesting Secrets. What The Google Allo App Can Do by tymdan(op): 4:32pm On Sep 25, 2016
Google has introduced two all-new apps – Allo and Duo at its I/O 2016 event. While Allo is a pretty smart messaging app, Duo is designed to be a cool video calling app.

#1. Allo has been developed to be an instant messaging app which is going to be available for both iOS and Android.

#2. Allo will feature an in-built Google Assistant.

#3. The “Google Assistant” integration will allow Allo users to search for flight, events, theatres, hotels and more from the app itself without needing to quit the messaging app.

#4. The messaging app will come with “Smart Reply” that will offer suggestions of reply while texting. With the use of artificial intelligence, the app is able to read your texting pattern and then suggests replies accordingly.

#5. While messaging, you will be able to increase the size of the text.

#6. Besides, you will get the option to even write on pictures before sending them.

#7. Google’s messaging app will feature “incognito mode” with end-to-end encryption along with discreet notifications.

#8. Google’s Duo video calling app has been developed to work even on low networks.

#9. Though the Duo calls are in HD, the video calling app will be able to adjust the quality itself in case the network is poor.

#10. It will come with a feature called “Knock Knock” that will allow you to see the preview video of the caller before starting the call. It will also feature end-to-end encryption to provide much-needed privacy and security.

BusinessWuse Zone 3 Canopy Technology Market Is Demolished: See Why N How **pics** by tymdan(op): 4:06pm On Sep 25, 2016
Findings have revealed why and how the Popular Canopy Technology Market, Wuse Zone 3 behind Intercontinental Plaza.

According to one of the occupants of the demolished market (who pleaded anonymity).

The market has about 5,000 shops.

They pay 70,000 Naira rent to owners of the shops, while AMAC collects 5,000 Naira per shop. The shops measure about 2metres by 2metres. 5,000 shops * 5,000Naira generates a whooping 25, 000, 000 Naira for AMAC yearly.

The market provides jobs for over 10,000 Nigerians in the areas of ICT hardware and software, office consumables and furniture, electrical and electronics sales n repairs, food, clothes, etc.

He stated that reasons for the demolition may not be unconnected with the disunity amongst occupants of the market and their union, and that a land behind the market was sold recently to someone highly placed so maybe the person wanted them out.

AMAC on their part has complained that some of auch markets where not supposed to exist in the first place, as they as situated in spaces alloted or designated to be gardens and parks.

My opinion however is as follows: With the current economic recession, joblessness, increase in crime rate, hunger, poverty and starvation arife in Nigeria...should we focus on further impoverishing ourselves? Destroying people means of livelihood, properties destroyed are worth billions, hopes and dreams shattered, school fees of young Nigerians and utility bills are paid from tjis market.

Is there no other way for our government to sanitise our "Parks" and "Gardens" rather than demolish and destroy without compensation and/or provision of alternatives? While at the same time losing the revenue that is being generated from the fees, levies and taxes paid in these small markets? Lets comment objectively.

Thanks.

Health***PICS*** This Country Was Worse Than Nigeria Now No MALARIA AGAIN!!! by tymdan(op): 10:57am On Sep 22, 2016
The World Health Organisation has certified that Sri Lanka is a malaria-free nation, in what it called a truly remarkable achievement.

WHO regional director Poonam Khetrapal Singh said in a statement that Sri Lanka had been among the most malaria-affected countries in the mid-20th century.

But, the WHO said, the country had begun an anti-malaria campaign that successfully targeted the mosquito-borne parasite that causes the disease, not just mosquitoes. Health education and effective surveillance also helped the campaign.

Malaria vaccine study raises questions about effectiveness and dosage
“Sri Lanka’s achievement is truly remarkable,” the WHO statement said.

“The change in strategy was unorthodox, but highly effective. Mobile malaria clinics in high-transmission areas meant that prompt and effective treatment could reduce the parasite reservoir and the possibility of further transmission.”

It said no locally transmitted cases of malaria had been recorded in the country for three-and-a-half years.

To prevent parasites re-entering the country, the anti-malaria campaign is working with local and international partners to maintain surveillance and screening, it said.

Politics***PICS*** See What A GROUP Told BUHARI by tymdan(op): 10:04am On Sep 17, 2016
RESIGN OR FORGET EMERGENCY POWERS, GROUP TELLS PRESIDENT BUHARI

President Buhari’s proposed bill for emergency economic powers keeps drawing intense condemnation from across the federation. The latest is from the Akwa Ibom vanguard, a socio-political group led by Senator Anietie Okon, a distinguished senator in the 4th assembly and political leader of Itu Local Government.

The group, in a press conference held in Uyo on Thursday called on the President to honorably resign from power if he finds that he can no longer work within the confines of the present constitution of the federal republic.
A release made available to the press at the conference reads;

“Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely. It is our firm position that if President Buhari cannot operate within the confines of the Constitution which he swore to respect and uphold; the honourable thing for him to do is to resign”.

Senator Okon stressed that the present constitution provides the President with sufficient powers to govern the nation and steer it out of the economic malaise it finds itself in. drawing from a draft of the proposed bill, he expressed disbelief that the president truly needed emergency powers to achieve some of the things the federal government has set forth as grounds for the bill.
He described the bill as a cause for grave concern.

“the grant of emergency economic powers to President Muhammadu Buhari in addition to the enormous powers already wielded by him, will most certainly turn him into a dictator and make nonsense of our democracy and statehood”.

In his contribution, the Honourable member representing Itu/Ibiono Ibom federal constituency at the House of Representatives, Dr Henry Archibong assured that the members of the national assembly are united in opposition to that bill.

“We are waiting for the bill. I wouldn’t speak for fellow National assembly members but I want to believe that this kind of bill will not pass. When it comes to matters that involve Nigeria, we don’t make decisions based on party lines.” He said, adding;

“Members of APC in the national assembly are not happy with this administration. We encourage Nigerians to rise up and resist this bill.”

Honorable Archibong brought to light the fact that the national assembly had approved over 6 Trillion naira for the presidency to access as budgetary allocation and not up to 30 % of it has been utilized. 500 billion naira was also approved for poverty alleviation programmes and not even 30 % of the amount has been spent yet.

“Why then would the president want emergency economic powers? What happened to moneys repatriated from overseas? What happened to the so-called recovered stolen loot” Archibong queried.

“While the nation awaits the full details of the so called Emergency Powers, our reaction to this issue is an exercise in service of nation building propelled by patriotic concerns.” The group stated.
