In August, the NYSC Director General issued an official broadcast stating that all corps members would soon receive the new minimum wage. This announcement raised everyone’s hopes, but only led to disappointment. We received the usual 33k late, along with another broadcast claiming the NYSC bill wasn’t signed and that funds weren’t available to pay the new minimum wage.

Corps members are struggling to survive on 33k, which barely covers basic needs.

When the 33k allowance was introduced, a bag of rice was around 9,000 Naira—you could buy three bags with your allowance in 2019. Now, a bag of rice reportedly sells for 160,000 Naira in Gombe yesterday, making it impossible for corps members to even afford a quarter of a bag with their full allowance.

I'm a corp member myself and I really can understand what you're going through.
I must confess that it's not easy, couldn't go to my ppa today due to lack of transport fare and I'm sure thousands of other corp members face the same issue.
Feeding is a Herculean task now because 33k can barely cover for transport fare alone talk less of Feeding and others.
The govt keep lying to us knowing fully well there's nothing we can do. It's really sad
